Has anyone replaced their housing and had issues with reception? - P3300, MDA Compact III Accessories

I bought a replacement housing and I noticed that when I use it, my phone is often searching for a signal. It's very sparatic too - it will be searching for a signal or have 1 bar and a minute later, it will have a full signal. But when I switch back to my old scratched up housing, the signal is steady.
Granted, I have broken one of the metal clips on the side of the housing but the same clip is broken on the original. I'm thinking that the face is used as an antenna or something. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue.

I also have another question/warning. Where can you buy quality housings for the Artemis? The one I bought is junk. Not only do I have the reception issue, but the HTC logo on the front has completely wiped off with a few days of use. Also, the keypad paint is very thin and cheap. In the dark, when the keypad is lit, you can see right through the cheap thin paint! It will only be a matter of about a week or so before thepaint starts chipping off. Also, the silver paint on the volume button has rubbed off in about a week of use. My old silver trim lasted almost a year. I'm really pissed about that. So I'm using my old scratched face plate & buttons with the new rear portion (since it the only worth while part in the kit. So beware of cheap ebay prices on these housings. Look for OEM.
Update: I've found that you can only get a quality OEM housing if you pay like $75.00 US. That's the going price I've seen on ebay and on sites like this: http://cnn.cn/shop/p3300dopod-p800-full-housing-p-1464.html
If it comes with the key pad, you can usually tell it's OEM because the letters are dark grey instead of white. The fake ones are white and they do not have the "e" for Internet Explorer - rather, they'll usually have some red symbol. That's the only way I know of to tell if they're fake. When you do a seach on ebay, include the word "Original" in your search and you should see some OEM ones.

i can confirm that - i also bought new housing from Ebay. It looks exactly the same ( only slightly different color on logos etc ).
very bad reception its not worth it(can not use GPS or wifi properly). And the paint is chipping off after week or so.
Also beware of the touch screens that are on Ebay - also cheap knockoffs. They work but are not near the quality of the original screen.

You may want to check the metal connectors on the center piece that connects to the circuit board. They ones connecting to the silver flat metal around the camera. Those are the antennas. I'm still using the original housing (with 2 ebay housings in the box) but I did have to readjust the antenna connectors to get wifi reception back. May or may not work for you.

Instructions Please

Thanks a lot i managed to take the housing off my phone, it was pretty easy with the right instructions, i'm seriously considering on getting a new one or painting the old one.

75$ Thats pretty expensive, I bought my 2nd hand (but in mint condition) for 100 euro. Better get a new P3300, or as mentioned above paint the worn out case yourself, that would be even better

Sony Ericsson X1 Replacement Touch Screen/Digitizer Module
Price: $4.08 free shipping
I just ordered 2 This renders the protection screens useless.
Cheers!
Cool, just have to find out if it is really genuine! You never know, its DX.. If it actually is, bye bye irritating screen protectors.
I will post photos when I receive it. I'm eager to remove the thick plastic cover I use to protect the screen - the touch sensitivity is definitely affected by its thickness.
I doubt this is a genuine part - what's important is to work as such.
DX is slow during christmas and new year season, so you might have to wait a long time for it. Also the hong kong post is slow now
But i am waiting eagerly for the photos!
Hope it will perform well.
i just orderd this one..
http://cnn.cn/shop/sonyericsson-xperia-digitizer-p-6916.html
its working 100% and its oem. only 5$ for shipping. also its really hard taking off the original digitizer/glass. its glued on so make sure you take your time when your doing it because you can break your lcd. also the one i purchased was pre-glued with plastic on it so it was easy to put on.
I doubt there is a difference between these two, considering the price.
OMG, I just buy a piece from eBay for $7 + $3 shipping fee. poor me....mad:

I'm still waiting my order ... dealextreme free shipping, you know
hi.. i am working on a new project with touchscreen..
can any one provide me links where i could buy this module...
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32335
Here u go. The same link is in the first post.
I've just recived mine, here are some photos. How it works i will be able to tell next week, i think, because I don't think i am able to change it myself.
I'm afraid the cargo camel that brings the goods from hongkong probably has a flat tyre somewhere in the desert... so my digitizer is still on the way.
For anyone that had experience replacing the digitizer, does it involve soldering??
I don't think it needs soldering. I fitted one to my Orbit 2 and that had a similar ribbon like the X1 digitizer. It just has connector that the ribbon pushes into.
This is an excellent screen protector to protect your new digitizer: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23639
They do not need soldering. Just got done replacing mine with this a few weeks back. Took me about 3 hours. I also purchased this set of tools as well: dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29544
They are invaluable, if I didn't have them I would have never got past the first couple steps.
I used this tutorial mostly (along with a couple others) to guide my way thru: formymobile.co.uk/xperiadisassembly.php
There are also many other ones if you google X1 disassembly. The only part I F-ed up on was during the removal of the metal trim ring that is glued to the old broken digitizer module. This is very thin. I bent mine in a couple of spots. Use a heat gun to warm it and it will slide right off.
Reassembly went OK. If I remember right something fell out and I couldn't figure out where it went but after looking at multiple guides I figured it out.
Mine works 100%, already ordered another one. I see they also have the actual LCD screen now too at Dealextreme.
Thanks for the info. I think I got some water leak in the digitizer. A little bit of the upper right corner area was not working last week. But the whole touch panel is not working today (already flash stock rom back to make sure it's not software issue). I think I will just buy the LCD+Digitizer in ebay (about $40) and let's see how it goes....
Just want to report back. My touchscreen is back to working with the new LCD+Digitzer. $29 form here: http://www.ezelektronix.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1872&current_cat_id=276 which is relatively cheap. Takes 2 weeks for me to receive the package.
Hi all
So I finally got my parcel from AX
Can someone tell how to replace it
Thanks in advance
i changed the Digitizer only.
with help of a heatgun and a sharp knife.
Hi guys,
I remember I also bought a digitizer once for a HTC prophet and the quality was noticeably lower than the original. I lost contrast on screen and had other issues. Is this one exactly the same quality as the original touch screen ?

[Q] How to repair a broken screen!?

Hi guys,
I have just broken my Dinc2's glass screen. The underlying LCD screen is still functional and the touch screen works. So, I am guessing that I only broke the glass on the top of the screen... I uploaded pics to make it clear.
The casing near the USB port got bent some time back when I went kayaking... And I think that is where the screen cracked significantly when I dropped the phone.
I can still use the touchscreen and there are no discoloration on the LCD. So, can you guys suggest to me what Screen replacement product I need to buy online and (preferably) give me a link for said product and a How to repair guide. Plus, is this process easy? As in if I spend a few hours carefully following the steps to repair, will I succeed?? Moreover, can I replace the metal casing as well?
Thanks for the help gang! I really need to get my phone back to 100% working condition as I don't have an upgrade available till April '13 and I have cancelled my phone's insurance recently!

So I have dust under my screen even though my phone is completely original and never been dropped. Do you think it's worth taking apart, cleaning out, and replacing the adhesive? How long do you think it would take, and what is the likelihood of doing more damage to the phone?

I should have probably waited for more replies, like yours, here to get a better product link. Anyway, I guess I bought all the needed parts. I hope I get good quality material and I can get going with the repair... Do you think that they are good? The digitizer and tools didn't ship yet, so I can try and cancel and buy the one from ebay...
I actually just finished doing this a few hours ago. It does take some time to do it but if you have patience you can do it
You have to remove the LCD to remove the digitizer, so you will have all the parts out of the body of the phone. It is easier if you replace the body because it comes with new adhesive already perfectly cut and installed. If you reuse the old one you will have to scrape all the old adhesive off, then cut new adhesive. They are also available in red/silver/black so you can change colors.

When you say replacing the body, are you referring to the front housing/bezel? That is this: http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-droid-incredible-2-front-housing-bezel-replacement.html
If so, where did you buy it, as I want a reliable and reasonably priced product online. Thanks a lot for the help, btw!

That is what I was referring to as the body, since all the parts attach to it. I actually got an entire new housing, came with the bezel, the middle part, and a new battery cover since my battery cover was beat up and I was changing colors. The middle part I didn't need but it was cheaper to buy all 3 parts than just 2.
I got it on ebay. The Incredible 2 and the Incredible S housing parts are interchangeable. I ended up getting S parts because they were cheaper. Most of the ebay sellers are in China so shipping takes 1-2 weeks depending on the seller. Repairsuniverse is good if you want it fast, I ordered from them once and got the part in 2 days.
Parts arrived. Links to tutorials PLEASE!

Thanks, captain obvious!
I wanted to know if there is a detailed how to. Anyway, managed to take it apart. All guides end at taking it apart and say, "well, now you know how to dissemble it, just go in reverse and assemble it. Well. I wish they don't do that and show me through the reverse just to avoid mistakes. I remember having to redo IKEA furniture due to missing a few parts. Don't wanna do this messy procedure and realize I forgot a button or worst still putting the screen on!
Anyway, I am a grad student with a bachelors in Engineering... I should be ashamed if I can't do this! :silly:
repairsuniverse has a guide on youtube for replacing the digitizer. I found it easy to follow. Only difference is when you put it back together put the parts in the new body. You will also have to pull the speaker out of the old body and put it in the new. It is held in by glue, heat it with a hairdryer/heatgun and it comes out pretty easily. You might need to use some new adhesive on the speaker, I was able to pull the old adhesive out of the body in one piece using a hairdryer and some tweezers.

I am 100% done with the repair. But there are a few issues. The Vibrator motor seems to be not working. Then, the Digitizer I bought doesn't have a hole for the front facing camera! That is not a major setback as I rarely use it and I have a tablet and a PC to skype chat with... But it is sad that a feature is missing.
The big issue is the vibrator not working. I didn't mangle it and put it back in place as I am supposed to. Finally, I have 1 or 2 small dust particles under the screen and that is ok. I couldn't remove all the dust and it is a miracle I managed to get it that clean. Finally I seem to have a slight green tint/screen bleed at top left corner. I didn't have that before and I didn't distort the LCD while replacing. Is it due to a smudge on the LCD there? I suppose it is a minor issue and not something that will amplify as I have a Transformer prime that has screen bleeds and it is apparently because the screws are too tight.. So may be I tightened something too much? Anyway, if it doesn't deteriorate I am ok, as it is a very, very minor problem.
So, bottom line: Main problems > (1) No FFC (due to improper digitizer) -> I don't intend to fix it. (2) Vibrator motor not working.
Can someone help me with 2?
I fricking fixed it! I have WORK to do and I spent about 4 hrs fixing my phone!!! I'm kinda screwed for tomorrow! At least now my phone works...
That is odd it didn't have a spot for the front camera. I replaced my digitizer and it has a clear spot for it but it is not even close to centered. It actually looks like it would obstruct the camera but it doesn't. If you take it apart again for some reason you can scrape the black off the back so it is clear. However, it is very hard to do that and make it look decent.
Getting it perfect with no dust between the lcd and digitizer is very very hard to do. The first phone I did I actually took it apart again because there not only was dust but smudges on the other side of the digitizer. As for the bleeding I wouldn't think you could cause it from pressure in the inc2 because the lcd and digitizer are just held on the front by adhesive. The LCD has adhesive around the entire edge of it, I don't know if that also blocks light from the edges but if it does and there is a little bit missing maybe it is the cause.

The following are the images of my fixed and "pimped" Dinc2.

Is the two tone color combination looking sweet, or should I change the back to red as well? I have a spare black back cover. If anyone has a spare red back cover, I can trade!
Plus, the "smudge/screen bleed" at the top left edge is seen in this pic:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/illeve11tomyrtw/2012-09-25 00.54.23.jpg (The black spot on the middle of the left side is a dust spec!)
Close up: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ys4r2e6xmxfhnh/2012-09-25 00.54.48.jpg
Is the smudge bad? I think it is just a smudge on the LCD and not a damage to the LCD right? In that case, I am cool, as I most likely will cause other smudges if I attempt to redo it anyway. Plus, I am kinda bummed out about the lack of FFC, but I hardly use it and the whole process of removing the screen is SOOO tedious (and I don't have a heat gun, so had to put my phone a feet above a gas burner! ) and it was so painful and stomach wrenching to safely remove the LCD/digitizer that I don't wish to do it again to repair the FFC...
So, what do ya say?
I think the two tone looks good since the red phones have all black accents. I thought it was weird that the speaker on the red phone is silver, while all the other accents are black.
There seems to be a problem with the adhesive. The digitizer is raised by about 1 millimeter at the top while it is attached better at the bottom. I think it is because I had an additional horizontal strip of adhesive at the bottom to attach the digitizer to both the LCD and the buttons firmly while I didn't put such a horizontal strip at the top as I didn't see one when I dissembled it. If I put pressure on the digitizer for a while, it sets back in place for about half a day. Is this a serious problem? I don't feel like dissembling again.

I just broke my screen and im looking to go the same route. This is a good phone to have as a back up after i get my upgrade and i dont want to get rid of it.
Anyway, did you need all those parts to successfully change your screen? I thought if you bought a new housing you would not need the adhesive tape?

Changing white housing cover to BLACK.

The question is: is it possible to change the full housing to black? I have a white SGS2 but it has scratches all over... Also that silver edge is pretty much damaged from falls.
I was browsing around and found out that there are full housings for sale, but what about the amoled screen if I want to change the phone color?
Thanks in advance!

The screen is mounted to the frame (midsection of the casing, which is integrated with bezel) by a sticky tape -- ~1.5 mm wide all around the perimeter, and in some areas in the middle. When you buy a complete casing, it comes with the tape attached, so it's ready for you to mount the screen onto it. It will also show you where exactly the tape is located under the screen. The tricky part is do detach the screen from your old casing. Usually, it's done by heating it (carefully!) with a hot air gun, or even a hairdryer -- it will soften a glue layer and allow you to pry off the screen without cracking it. It's not that difficult, but if you are not comfortable doing it yourself, seek some help from an experienced person -- an electronics repair guy, or a seasoned DYI'er. However, keep in mind that sh*t happens, and there is still a chance to break the screen in the process, or fry it by overheating...
Thanks for the answer, kt-Froggy.

I can only tell you where I bought mine... Not sure how trustworthy this source is, but it worked for me. I usually buy my stuff on Amazon. I searched for it, and ordered from this supplier (I was getting another item from them, so it was good to combine shipments). Delivered faster than promised, looked and worked as advertised, no problems with quality, so I was happy with it.

Looks promising... There's something else I should add. I'm using Samsung's original extended 2000mAh battery, so I should also look for the extended back cover which is different from the original one.

Droped my phone on asphalt few days ago. Screen needs a change, the body is in pretty bad shape too. Has anyone bought any housings from ebay for m7? I ordered a legit screen, but the original housings are way too expensive (I got my phone used and cheap). There are quite a lot of them from China, but I'm really not shure about the quality and fitment of the parts. Any info about replacement parts help.
No replies huh... Well I'll share my experience. The screen I bought was from m24mobile(germany) on ebay ,link.
It is legit, there was even a bit of glue left from the disassembled phone, in new condition. No dead pixels, the touch buttons are super bright, as the ones on my original screen were losing brightness.
I'll update my post as I get the housing. Not really hoping much though. Now my phone is held together by dark magic,double-sided tape and super glue.
Well alot of eBay parts are junk.
Got a replacement housing from Ireland for 11 EURO it is OK. But not like original.
Got a back camera still purple haze. Did some cooling mods and so but still problem persists.
Love the phone but the camera is like crap. Bought the phone for the camera, how could these reviews all be so couloured.
Anyway try to find an oem supplier.
Had one time luck with a Chinese digitizer + screen assembly. This was a good item.
If you would replace this I would recommend doing a assembly
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
You have them all in here, i think.. http://www.etradesupply.com/htc/android-models/htc-one-m7.html

I need a new motherboard for a one m7 dual sim, because I've blown them with a blown charger. He doesn't react on the charger and nor on a full charged battery. It can only be the board, I think. I like the dual sim because he have a sd card holder, now I've an single sim.

LCD & digitizer replacement part, where to buy?

So I accidently broke my screen and the touch stopped working. Thought I buy a new one off ebay but there are so many of them and half is probably copies. Does anyone know of a legit seller?
I wish I had the answer for you. I'm in the same boat so I hope someone knows of a good supplier that can provide a screen with good quality. I've looked at many that are available on Amazon and eBay and it appears none are GorillaGlass and tend to break easily.
Has anyone had good luck with a particular part?

Has anyone had good luck with a particular part?

I ordered this one (link below) a couple of weeks ago. I looked at a few and this was by far the best quality I found. It has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and is oem compliant.

It's like $45 don't waste money on the FedEx for UPS shipping. With all the bad weather they take longer than the post office.
Another thing luckily they sent me but its like a dollar to get another one is the black double-sided adhesive because you're going to have to take this thing apart more than you expect.
Ifixit has a pretty good tutorial just make sure to read it completely so you don't break a cable end.

To the top left of the rear facing camera /top right of the ear speaker after you get the logic board out, pull out the little gray rubber square.
If you can, use a heat gun liberally. Don't try to half ass it and pry out the power button and volume button flex cables, you WILL break them! Learned that the hard way with the power button. In the event that you do, this was the store page for the power button flex I used: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hig...utton-Wire-Flex-Cable-Repair/32548508603.html
For installation, you won't find it online, but just use a soldering iron to melt solder off the broken flex cable, remove, and solder new flex cable.
Does this screen get close to the original brightness and color saturation?
I ordered one from ebay about 6 months ago and the screen brightness is about half, compared to my wife's undamaged oneplus one, and the colors seem pale.

I have two these phones so side by side with the stock display is it close to similar as you're going to get.
If you drop phones as much as I do, go for the tudia case. It's big bulky and feels like cheap plastic but it is probably saved my screen a dozen times this month, and their description is BS do put the thin tempered glass protector on it so it fits snug for touch
