hi
i have lost all of the wifi settings on my xda exec after doing a hard reboot and doing a coparate install!!! i have found the mms/gprs settings in one of the forums via a cab file but does anybody have such thing for the wifi or even just has the setting for it!!!
cheers guys
Is this a not-so-clever phishing attack on peoples wifi networks??
There are no settings for wifi.
The wifi config is dependant on the network you connect to, when you use a wifi network you get the settings from the owner/operator of that wifi network.
nope, it just me being silly now, i've just realised what to do after you've just said it!! silly me
thanks

Upgraded from Xda II to Xda IIs end January and initially WLAN worked fine, but no GPRS. Went though process of creating GPRS connection (with O2 Support) and now cannot get IE to connect through WLAN. It always tries GPRS! Has anyone experienced this and/or got a solution?
Mike,
You will need to give us some more info on your settings.
If its an O2 unit with original firmwware if you back stuff up try a hard reset to get default settings back and ensure GPRS works then add the WLAN.
I live in Caldecote just outside Cambridge if you get really stuck we could meet up and you can try and copy my settings and check your SIM has GPRS enabled using mine that kind of thing.
Cheers Wayne
Many thanks Wayne. I'll do a backup and hard reset (with trembling hand no doubt) and see where I get to before getting back to you. Many thanks for the offer of help. I'm in Barrington, so it's not a million miles to come to talk if necessary.
you might already know this mike and if so at least it may be of help to others.
if your gprs connection is active then it doesn't matter wheather the wireless lan is on or off, internet explorer will always connect to gprs.
switch off gprs by clickiing on (in my case O2) your service providers icon and if "mobile web" is highlighted then click on it to switch it off.
Thanks, but I'd tried that and more. Eventually, as Wayne suggested, I did the dreaded hard reset and restored everything from scratch. I now have WLan working on my home LAN, but as I have such lousy GSM/GPRS coverage here I haven't yet tried to see if the GPRS side is now going to work. That's for tomorrow and where I started in the first place when I found it wasn't working! :?
Thank everyone for the suggestions.
Hello Mike
I had the same problem, and after thorough search I found the solution:
start->settings->connections -> advanced
select networks : both drop-down boxes are set to
"my work network"
This prevents the automatic gprs connections.
If you want gprs you can use the wireless manager
(start->programs->wireless manager)
and there tap the red gprs icon
In other words RTFM....

Hello!
I believe I saw a thread that addressed this problem a few weeks ago, but I can't seem to find it now...
If I forget to turn WiFi on when I start IE, my Dash automatically starts to browse using an EDGE or GPRS connection. Is there anyway to disable the unit from using EDGE or GPRS for internet browsing? Or at least make it stop going to EDGE if WiFi is off? I don't have a data plan and don't want to be charged for access.
Thanks!
i also have the same problem and have had to resort to altering the gprs settings so that it cant connect. This is obviously not ideal as I would like to have it working in an emergency etc.
Thanks for any help!!

How did you do this? I have skype mobile installed, but it has a setting that is easy to figure out. Basically i only want to run IE over Wifi.
I'd be interested in a solution for this too. I've been deleting the GPRS settings and only entering them when I need to use it, which is less than once a month.
me too...
I'm in the same situation... is there any software to disable GPRS .. EDGE.. when the WIFI is off??....
Hi everyone,
I configured my artemis to collect MMS threw the
gprs; but since, the weather tab keeps connecting to
the GPRS to try and update.
Is there i reg fix to stop this and only let it connect
threw WI-FI?
thanks
When you click on weather to change city - right side menu\weather options - turn off auto.
No way only to use wifi unless you delete devices gprs settings.
i already answered the same question here. it's not really what you are asking about, but for me it solved the problem
edit: you can also disable the auto update, but then it will never auto update, even if you are connected via WLAN.
thanks for the answers
Hi Guys
We have recently had BT open up a Wifi ripoff spot. My Desire seems to like it and is willing to connect to it rather than the 3g network. The wifi spots are unsecured and direct you to the Payment page.
Is there a way to ban this wifi spot so that it will still auto connect to all my other wifi spots that I added myself?
Thanks in advance
Have you taken it off of your remembered hotspots list? If not go to setting, wireless and networks, wireless or WiFi then it should give you a list of remembered hotspots. Click on a hotbot and the option to forget should pop up

hi mate i have seen this option but did assume it would just find it again anyway. Does the network go on some sort of hidden blacklist once you tell it to forget.
oh I am going to try it anyway btw and thanks very much for the reply.
If you connect to an open network, it will always try to reconnect to it again once you are in range. So, you need to "forget" the network - it isn't blacklisted and you can still connect to it again if you wish, but it won't try to auto-connect all the while it is "forgotten".
Regards,
Dave
Sorry for opening up this old thread, but I have a issue in the same line, altho fundamentaly diferent:
I have a number of accessible networks within my range. I have a small issue with the auto connect. Is it possible to have the phone remember the network settings for networks, but NOT auto-connect to them?
Or make an ordered list with most preferred AP on top? When I'm in my garage, signal strength make the phone conect to my neighbor (I have his network in my list too, as I often visit and then uses his AP), but want my own LAN and shared folders accessible...
Not sure you guys get my meaning. It wasn't very well written, but I hope you are able to help?
Hello
i have a htc desire gsm
and im running cyanogen mod 6.1.1 with radio version 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
i have the following problems:
i can connect to networks without a problem, and the connection seems stable and fast
but reconnecting is a problem, if i disconnect from a network, by disabling wifi or moving out of range, most of the times the wifi does not auto reconnect. it just stays as remembered and disabled. if i then click on the saved network it connects fine.
sometimes it has to connect two times to get a conenction, looks like connecting, then searching then connecting in the wireless and networks config screen.
its not a big problem but annoys me as hell
on the other hand i have one network, protected with 802.1x eap (ttls and pap) its the configuration where you need to input username and password and use a certificate.
with this network i have connection problems, connection works 1 out of 4 times and if not then i have to redo the whole config. this annoys me even more because the network is unusable for me most of the time.
and
today i had the problem that the wifi conenction dropped regularly, connected, then came scanning which disconnected my wifi and then reconnected. and so on.
wifi settings even force closed then
had to reboot, after that was fine. lets see for how long
i have googled around but never found an answer or fix for this.
so can anybody help me here ?
and i have some related questions.
is there an app that can show me only wifi and related logs ?
is wifi connection related to radio version ?
where are the wifi settings located ? like saved networks and so on ?
thx in advance
I also have that auto reconnection problem. Waiting for a fix for that.
Does it manifest exactly as I described it or in some other way?
