SX66 users - MEdia net or Mmode ? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I know that there were blue and orange versions of the SX66 sold. Mine is an orange one and I am able to use MEdia net. Does the blue version just mean that it is SIM locked to the former AT&T, or does it also mean that you can use mMode on it?
If you can use mMode can someone post the customization files I wanted to try it out

PDA2K on Cingular - Messed up voicemail notification!

One of the things I had issues with when I converted and hacked up the Audiovox SMT5600 over from AT&T Wireless to Cingular was the infamous "05" SMS notification whenever I got a voicemail and when I listened to and deleted them.
Now, thanks to MadMonkeyBoy, I am the proud owner of a PDA2K, and it's a joy to say in the very least.
However, the moment I boot up the PDA2K, it prompts me with a voicemail notification icon on the top status bar, regardless if I have one or not.
Furthermore, when I get a real voicemail, I get the 05 notification again, and I receive another one when I listen to them and delete it.
What's going wrong here? I was told by everyone that no one has issues with the PDA2K on Cingular's network, and while I fully believe them and don't blame them, I'm just pretty confused as to why I'm getting them. I have the latest firmware, and I even took the extra steps of unlocking the Extended ROM and grabbing some of the Cingular customizations from here.
Please help soon! Thanks!

I had that same problem just yeaterday on my PDA2K- Never had it before Cingular took over AT&T.... MUST be on thier end.... I cannot get rid of the Voicemail Icon even I have NO Voicemails
FYI, No such problem with my 5600 or PDA2k on Cingular here in Sacramento, CA.
The only service related problem I see is the periodic inability to make or receive calls when "roaming" on an AT&T Wireless tower. It usually corrects itself after a few tries. Once or twice I resorted to turning on/off flight mode and that corrected it. I think it is an issue with the integration of AT&T Wireless RAN and Cingular's core and expect it to improve with time.
Do you have a 32K SIM or 64K SIM? Just curious.
I have a 64K SIM that I received from a Blue store in Woodbridge, NJ. For gits and shiggles, I'm going to see if a later ROM might do the trick, but I was told that SIM replacement is likely. Any insight?
I installed the latest Arabic version of the ROM upgrade, bringing the upgrade to:
ROM version: 1.31.00 WWE
ROM date: 12/13/04
Radio version: 1.06.00
Protocol version: 1337.38
ExtROM version: 1.31.112 WWE
I then unlocked the Extended ROM and removed all the Arabic customizations and applied some of the Cingular customizations.
Unfortunately, the voicemail icon still came up and it was looking bleek. Until I stopped by another Blue store and exchanged the 64K SIM... voila! The initial voicemail notification icon was gone! Now, I'll just have to have someone leave me a voice message to see how the PDA2K responds.
Same problem here
Hi,
I was using my PDA2K fine with AT&T but upgraded my account to Cingular. They sent me a new SIM card and now I get the same "05" text messages. Has anyone figured out what is causing this and how to remedy it? Could it really be that I too have a broken SIM card?
Thanks
I'm convinces it's the SIM and the way it talks to the network. I called Cingular and of course, they're blaming the software or firmware on the device, but I have yet to find a TRUE Cingular customer (read: Orange store, not from Blue store [converted AT&T-to-Cingular]) and borrow his/her SIM to check it out.

CDMA Blue Angels!

Has anyone seen the CDMA version yet? They were in Pocket PC Magazine (Feb issue).
I am curious as to which BT version they are running (1.0 or 1.1)
Funny reading the article, they stated Sprint was the first to bring this phone to market in the USA...funny, I have had my SX66 since December 04...unless they are talking about the CDMA version! (grin!) The "manufacturer" for the phone is Audiovox. It is also on the Audiovox website, with a Verizon version listed both With and WITHOUT the camera...along with a listing of accessories we can purchase!

cdma ppc-6600
I am a network admin for a large insurance agency, we have 30 new ppc-6601's and 2 ppc-6600's. Yes these are Sprint Phones and I have already upgraded the ROM versions and the Radio versions. Some of the phones have been having nothing but problems locking up and dropping calls and the rest are fine. As far as the BT version it is 1.0.0.3500 except for the BtCeStack which is 3601 this is with the new Version ROMs.
My phone personaly is
ROM: 1.36.00
ExtROM: 1.36.113
Radio: HA00_140
BtCeStack: 3601
Wish it was GSM and not CDMA, not big on Sprint but well thats what we have
CompUSA, in Sunday's newspaper ad, lists the 6600 for $629.99, with $250 in discounts with Sprint activation.
any chance you can post the splash screens and any sprint specific windows themes

it is for Harrier devices (CDMA):
ROM version: 2.03.00 WWE
ROM date: 12/15/04
Radio version: HA01_140
Protocol version AA3.3.301
ExtROM version: 2.03.111 WWE
I'm still trying to figure out how to get it installed on my Sprint 6600. I'm getting the Country error 120 and haven't yet figured out how to get around it. The suggestion in the Blue Angel FAQ of editing the RUU.conf doesn't work because "[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1" is already in the file.
I'm excited to try this out since it's got Windows Media Player 10 built-in.
Dan
This sounds very exciting. I myself have a Sprint PPC-6600 and would love to get this working as well. I noticed that this is for the Harrier device and not the BA. Will this still retain the hardware keyboard? If you get it up and running smoothly please post the process you went through. Good luck!
Difference Between Harrier and Blue Angel.
There is no difference has I have both the Sprint PPC6600 and XDAs, the only difference is that the Blue Angel has Wifi and is GSM, and the Harrier is CDMA with GPS and no Wifi. The Specs and design are exactly the same.
The Harrier is not easy to unlock has the ESN and MSL/SPC Code is stored on the Qualcomm MSM5500 Chip. The only way to access this chip is from accessing the PDA COM2 Port with a new multi access serial driver, as the one supplied only allows single entry from wince only.
If we have got some good Win CE programmers out there who can make software to read this chip so we can access the MSL/SPC unlock code which is 6 digits.
There are 2 stored in the chip, one is the one time access code and the other is the main code.
So A lot of people across the globe using these HTC devices on the CDMA network would be grateful if this software was made available or even sold at a reasonable unlock price.
If anyone has a solution to unlock these CDMA versions please email me at [email protected]
Thanks

I don't know about Verizon, but Sprint always gives you the main MSL (not the one-time) when you activate the phone. Do the other carriers somehow program your phone OTA? How else do you get your MDN and MSID in the phone?
I know BitPim can get the MSL for a lot of other Sprint phones... maybe the developers can make it work with the Harrier.
Sorry I can't be of more help here.

The 2.03 upgrade works great on XV6600s and PPC6600/6601s.

(This was covered in the Blue Angel Upgrade forum in the Harrier is a Red-Headed stepchild thread...)

Sprint 6600 Users Upgrade to Win Media 10
First of all download the Telstra Rom Image, Unzip with WinRAR.
Copy the attachement below to the directory. Now sprint users you need to copy the radio image file from the sprint download and copy into the telstra directory.
Press power, record and reset button to put yourselve in bootloader mode.
Run the attachement you downloaded
And you should have a working telstra image.
If you don't change the radio image you have no signal, because sprint have disable evdo in these phones.
yes that is the correct procedure. Do keep in mind there are some other changes in that ROM, but more or less it works OK.

Can I also put the latest extended rom for my phone in this directory to have it update that at the same time too?

Yes you can... and I would suggest doing so (or at least deleting the Telstra ms_.nbf( unless you want i-mate/Telstra branding!

Rogers Caller ID WM6

I was able to successfully load on WM6 on my TYTN but I only get the number now for caller id and do not get the name and number as our carrier now sends this in the CID stream. Does anyone have the same issue and have subscribed to name and number display? There might be a registry setting I need to change.
thought I would bump this
I'm on Rogers, and u get the names only if have them in your phonebook. (Prefferably on the phone!)
Rogers has a name caller id (even if it isn't in your phone book) available
you have to make sure its part of your plan i think rogers has 2 types of caller id basic and an advanced which shows the names
you need to have a name display service on ur rogers plan, which coz $2 per mth!
the problem isn t the 2$,
i pay it but wm6 doesn t display name ... well sleuth, black majik and the official htc where not displaying the name...if somebody can help us with that
thanks in advance

As a Rogers dealer, I can attest to the fact name display doesn't work by default in WM6.
I'm thinking that name display is enabled when the Rogers Ext Rom or config files run on first boot with the device. I have access to these devices, just don't really know how I would dump this tweak from a stock device. If anyone has any idea, I'd be more than happy to try an help out.
I do know that Name Display is an enhancement unique to Rogers and that all of our launched devices have to have special things done to them to enable the feature.
hey Ender666666 , that would be nice if you could upload the Extended ROM on the wiki at the Available Extended ROM Versions
--
he's right, the tytn is not showing the name of the callers that aren't in my contacts.
macpapi are u on rogers?
do you pay the display callers name?
for the one who doesnt know that service click here
I'm on Rogers and pay for the service... it worked great on my Nokia N95... but since I have a non Rogers TyTN - the service has never worked.
I've never seen a Rogers version of the TyTN. So I'm not sure if it's enabled on those.
hey Ender666666 are u sure the name display work on a tytn from rogers ?
thanks
Nope. I don't have an unaltered one in stock at the moment (they're oin backorder nationwide) but I'll see if a co-worker can confirm it.
If I was to dump the Ext Rom, how woukd I do that?
I can confirm after doing some tests that it doesnt work on the tytn. I pulled out my sim and put it in another rogers phone and it displayed the caller name and I can guarantee it's wasnt in my address book. We really need to find a way to make it work.
Also, the dumped rogers rom can be downloaded here ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Hermes/HTC_TyTN_Rogers_Eng_1.34.631.14.zip. I extracted it yesterday but dont know what to look for or if it contains the extended roms.
thanks for the link macpapi
I'm on fido (which is Rogers) and I dont get names displayed on my TyTN. When inserting the SIM in my Nokia, they display. My friend who has the Rogers TyTn (i have the softbank) gets the names displayed.

But i have another issue with rogers.. when ever i call any number inside canada and if it starts with +1 then the line gets disconnected immediatley....so i have to edit all my local number s and remove the inital +1 and then dial....

Should this model S620 have Wi Fi?

I have done the obvious steps of googling and searching the forums so please excuse me if I have missed the answer to this question but here goes....
I bought a T-Mobile branded HTC S620 on ebay, the advert says it has WiFi but the device never showed this ability at all. I followed instructions here to update to the Kavana 6.1 Rom but still no Wi Fi. I was wondering if anyone can tell me should this actually have Wi Fi capability?
The technical details are:
CPU: TI OMAP850
Speed: 201 MHz
RAM: 64 MB
FLASH: 128 MB
Model Name: HTC-S620
Radio Version: 4.1.13.51_03.07.90
Can`t find a way to display further information, if I run the freeware program WifiIO it says "sorry no WLAN hardware found" and I`m thinking it doesn`t have the hardware built in
There is a code underneath the battery that reads EXCA210 if this helps?
Thanks
Dave
Of course it does. Did you check on CommManager? If you flashed the phone to 6.1 then I assume you also followed the steps to allow SMS, MMS and Internet to work? If you haven't, look into that. If you have... then it sounds weird. I am sure I read something similar to your problem around recently.
I just got a Dash from T-Mobile and I do have wifi, so yes you should definately have it also.
That`s what I thought, using a registry editor I can see that under HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\CommManager\WLAN it has two values
one says DEFAULT and in brackets (value not set) and the other is the device name. I have been reading in one post that maybe the T Mobile models don`t have wlan hard ware. I looked at the exact wording on the ebay advert and it says "put wi fi and Bluetooth 2.0 as a extra item" whatever that means
It does not show in the comm manager though
I have just found that in the folder WINDOWS is a file called RemoveWiFi so I would assume there must be a way to make it enabled again?
Busted wifi yet another ebay Dump, Busted wifi S620.
I think there may be a way to re enable it and hopefully someone who knows more than me about the subject can help.
I`m guessing the key is to do with the removewifi file. I opened it in notepad and it contains a load of text including bits saying to enable just 6 items (whereas with wifi enabled there should be seven I think on the manager screen).
Of course it could just be that thats the default setting for the Kavana 6.1 rom however it appears from hours of googling that the 210 (my model) is the Dash from T Mobile and not the hard ware disabled T Mobile mail so I`m hoping
So maybe if someone can tell me how to edit the removewifi file (is it safe to do so?) I may be able to enable the feature

if you loaded kavana's rom the wifi manager should be at the bottem where it says settings under photo and you just scroll left or right and it should say wireless manager : wifi off click the silver button and it will open your comm manager then you can turn it on...if it isn't on there maybe you messed up when you loaded the rom, re-download the rom then re-boot the rom back onto your phone..
Thanks, I know the comms manager but it shows only bluetooth and the phone options, followed the instructions for rom properly and image appears to be fine as everything else works.
Its supposed to be the T-Mobile Dash according to the sellers advert, he refuses to answer my queries, but if it ish that should have had wi fi and when I got it there was no wi fi on the t mobile rom eithr so maybe I just got ripped off by a smeghead on ebay
Still nice phone though
I don't want to look like a cretin, but I have seen on ebay knock off exact copies of phones such as the Nokia N96 and they all lacked wifi. Maybe you got a knock off HTC Dash hence why no wifi? Just a thought.
I'm not aware of any T-Mob Dash that was sold without WiFi.
Here's an idea: Reflash the phone with T-Mob's latest ROM and see if the WiFi gets installed and can be enabled. If it is/can, then you know something fubar'd when you flashed the non-OEM ROM.

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that the MDA Mail variant of the Excalibur sold by T-Mobile in Germany & UK did not have onboard Wi-Fi
Not sure if cross-flashing ROM can enable it - or if the hardware is not in there.
yyour wifiinit.lnk mustve gotten deleted, thats exactly what happens if i remove mine from windows/startup folder. im guessing that if u either reflash it, hard reset or idk if someone uploaded it for you tt download that the issue will be fix
The original T Mobile rom didn`t allow wifi either, it had Windows Mobile 5 on then. I will have to see how to create a wifiinit.lnk file and where to place it.
Hi!
I own both a unbranded HTC S620 and the German MDA mail. Im a alert by the fact that u stated that the model name under the battery as EXCA210. Because that is exactly what I have in my German wifi-disabled MDA mail. The wifi-enabled HTC S620 on the other hand reads EXCA200.
However, it is very easy in fact to determine if your Excalibur (whatever the model) is one of those "handicapped" MDA mails.
How does the case look? Is it all black? Not like the new US Dash but a metallic, black paint on the front cover? Plus, a MDA mail only has the "Designed for Windows Mobile" logo on the back and nothing else!
Usually, all the ROMs automatically detect whether WiFi is available or not. If the WiFi option is shaded grey and not applicable in the CommManager then I'm very sorry but to tell u that either the WiFi Module is broken or you've got one of the MDA mails. I can approve of that since I am easily able to check this for both of my phones.
Googling for EXCA210 and finding that it is a T-Mobile Dash doesnt change the fact...that is usually some confusion about that. Even on the Excalibur-Wiki and the smartphone-db, they list the MDA mail as wifi-enabled which it is, obviously not.
EDIT: Oh, and btw. There is no way of enabling the WiFi on a MDA Mail. It simply lacks the WiFi-onboard module!
I have to admit the seller who won`t reply to me at all says its a T Mobile Dash with optional Wi Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 in his advert on ebay, however it seems to me to be an MDA instead.
Its a UK one, jet black as you describe complete with ten silver numeric keys and I`m thinking the seller just is a rip off merchant!
Alright mate, then u got a MDA mail..sorry to hear that. It's not a bad phone though..its a q nice contrast to all the other silver ones...but yet, very disappointing withouth WiFi. To be honest, I reckon the seller didnt even know what he was selling, and just copied the data from the normal HTC S620. Very little people know about this crucial difference between the two..however, he should have been one of those..
Have you got a link to the bespoken product on ebay?
HTC MDA Mail
Is this your phone? http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/03/12/t-mobile_ships_mda_mail/ I got to say that I really like the looks of it, even though it doesn't have wifi, is a nice phone. Is there anything else different from the dash? regarding apps and features.
Yes thats the one roloracer.
Yes the looks are really cool i admit, but its bears the typical HTC problem as other re-branded/re-modelled phones for T-Mobile : the colour wears off very rapidly. I had that problem with my Amadeus (SDA music for T-Mo GER) that the white paint came off really easily. For the MDA Mail u basically end up with the normal HTC S620 cover underneath with still little bits of the original colour scattered on the front cover...makes it look very roughed up..not nice
Apart from that, everything is the same. I cant really remember about the Apps because I unlocked and upgraded the ROM very quickly.. But another advantage is that those MDA mails were manufactured in the HTC plant in Taiwan...so its said that those usually show a better component quality.

So unless you absolutely need the wifi , then you're not missing anything by having an mda mail instead of a dash/excalibur.
