Hi,
Activesynch 3.8 allowed you to select whether the computer or XDA would be prioritsed in case of information conflict.
I am now using Activesynch 4.2 which does not seem to offer the user to select if a conflict arises.
I have lost a couple of appointments because the PC overode the XDA.
Anyone got any hints to improve ActiveSynch??
Thanks
I have exactly the same gripe moving from my SPV C500 which ran Active Sync 3.8. That version of Active Sync was great. It synced almost twice as fast as this newer more improved version... And as you say it also gave the option of which device to use as the master in the event that two records were identified on both PC and SPV and they differed in the details.
Why oh why did Microsoft change this???!!!!
Beta 4.5 (2) allows you to choose when a conflict is found, it is available on the microsoft downloads site.
Doesn't the "Souce Settings" on the Activesynce running on your PDA work for this??
If there is a conflict, you select either
"replace the item on my device" or
"Keep the item on my device"
I thought this is what this settings if for??
Hey... trying to sync my contacts from outlook onto my new orbit.
when i connect the device it takes me through the wizard and i select contacts to sync. it comes up 'connected' and the 'explore' button is ighlighted ... but it doesn't sync and the 'sync' button is greyed out. the tools/options command is also greyed out. when i disconnect and reconnect the device i get the wizard again thinking it is a completely new device and i set it up again... this happens over and over!! all i want to do is sync my contacts!!!!...
...help!!

I was trying to access the PC side of Activesynch when not connected to Orbit.
Itr;s much easier to understand on the Orbit end.
Thanks again!
btw, Activesync 4.5 (after beta) is available.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx
In activesync click 'tools' then 'options'. Right click on the PC name (Right at the top - not the individual applications). Click 'source settings'. You can then select the source in case of conflict.

I've found an oddity since upgrading to WM6 - with WM5 when I connected my MDAC3 to my PC, I had to enter the security PIN on my PC for it to sync. But now, under WM6 although a dialogue box pops up in Vista/MDC, I actually have to enter the PIN on my phone rather than the PC. However, if I just tap the "OK" button on my phone without entering the PIN, it still seems to sync regardless, or have I missed something?
I noticed the same - plus vista actually puts up a picture of the XDA orbit. Is this a new security "feature" in WM6, or just a quirk of the rom?
Also, it seems that I can't automatically see the device in my computer, i have to go to sync center and then double click the phone before i can browse and see it in my computer.
Hmm i don't have any PIN Request before syncing, and never had that before (with WM5 or Windows XP, now using WM6 and Vista). how can i set a Sync PIN? Would be nice to know. When i connect my device, i get that small Picture of the Orbit and i can access it directly from "My Computer"...
I think the Sync PIN comes into play if the "lock device" setting is used (start -> settings -> Lock in WM6). I'm forced to have this active on my device by my hosted Exchange service (1and1).
The o2 XDA image appears on Vista because the WM6 ROM is an o2 XDA one, so this is what it thinks your phone now is.
I have a Dopod 383 Pro running Black Magik (apparently BBC does not work with Black Satin) with the BBC software v4.0.0.67 downloaded from the Dopod Australia website.
I have installed Blackberry Connect Desktop on my notebook and connected it to the Exchange server. I have added myself as a user on BES and set an activation password. The status of my account shows up as "Initializing". I have installed the Blackberry Connect cab file on my Dopod however the status of the service shows up as "Not Connected". ActiveSync has been installed and is synchronizing fine with Exchange.
I have a Blackberry Data Plan activated on my SIM card.
Can someone please help me get connected to BES?
Thanks!
On the desktop software:
1) can you see your BES account settings??
2) have you hit the 'configure handset' button? and let it do its thing (can take a while)
In the General Tab, PIN shows up as "Unknown Type". Security is set to "Generate Keys Automatically". In Advance, email shows my Exchange email address. That is all the information I have showing in the desktop software.
I click on Configure Wireless Handset and I get an error message that says it cannot connect to the device.
1) did you download the desktop software from the same site as the cab file? There are a number of versions of the desktop software and they are not all compatable.
2) have you completed the setup on the handheld before you active sync to your PC? ie do you have the Blue BB indicator on the bottom right corner of the today screen? If it is there what does it indicate BB, Bx, B! If its not there then you need to set it up. On your handheld go ... Start>Settings>System>Blackberry select services you want (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes) then 'next'. Select the 'connection' (hopefully this is already set to blackberry) then 'next' and finally the device will 'prepare for first use' then ask to reset. following the reset the BB indicator should be on the today screen, then try to connect to your PC, Activesync, BB desktop connect and 'configure device'
1) The desktop software was downloaded from the same Dopod Australia site as the CAB file.
2) Setup was completed on the handheld and it indicated B! on the bottom right. Everything has been setup as you mentioned however following the reset the desktop connect is still unable to access the device when you click on "Configure device". ActiveSync works fine.
I'm fast running out of ideas....
1) are you using BBConnect 4.0.0.90 on Black Majik? I am not sure this version works on Majik. However I do have it working on Black X Beta 2.
2) B! means either blocked or suspended (no connection). click on the B! and check the Status Tab what is the text after the word Service: (If its Suspended by user then click the resume button). Then select the Identity tab, is the PIN shown? If not then uninstall & reinstall BB Connect on the device.
3) On the blackberry Connect Desktop app, can you check the version? Is it 4.0.0.17 ?. If not then get it from here... http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/activesync_bbconnect_desktop_setup_4.0.0.17.zip
4) Is your active sync V4.5?
1) I am running BBConnect v4.0.0.67 on Black Majik as I heard it does not work with Black Satin.
2) Service: Not connected and the Resume button is greyed out. The PIN is showing in the Identity Tab.
3) I am runing BB Connect Desktop v4.0.0.17
4) I am running ActiveSync v4.5
got me buggered! (B!)
Last thing I can think of is that the Black Majik version you have is not 'hex-edited' for BB.
you might want to try Blackberry connect 4.0.0.90 (google it for the location)
Is there a way to check if the version of Black Majik I am running has been edited for BB?
I will try BBConnect v4.0.0.90 now.
I'm not sure how to tell whats hex edited and whats not (no doubt there is something on this site that explains it).
Black X beta 2 is really stable and BBC 4.0.0.90 definetly works with this. If you can't get it to run on Majik, consider heading to the X ROM.
Okay, I have installed Black X Beta 2 with BBC 4.0.0.90 and now it works fine.
I have used BBC to sync my contacts, calender, task and notes and ActiveSync is not being used to sync any of those. Once BBC syncs all my info, my appointments tab disappeared from the Today screen and going into the Today screen settings, the appointment option cannot be found.
Another thing I noticed is that my contacts is displaying Last Name, First Name. How do I change this to First Name, Last Name?
Thank you very much for all your help.
Hi guys
I'm having trouble syncing my contacts and calendar in Vista Ultimate. I have a P3300 running WM5 and when I click mobile device settings in Sync Center on the PC, I try select the tick box for contacts or the rest of the options for that matter, but the tick box does not allow any form of entry the only tick box that works is files the same happens when I try active sync settings on my phone. Any idea what I'm doing wrong
Thanks..
Not sure it would (should?) make a difference but could the settings for MS Outlook in your firewall cause a restriction?
Other than that I have absolutely no idea what could be causing the problem. Never come across that before
Have you tried deleting the AS partnership and starting again?
:clutching_at_straws:
I tried to delete it and re-installed Mobile device center 6.1 , but still nothing the tick boxes are solid, and only box I can tick is files, this is really frustrating...
You do have MS Outlook installed on your PC don't you?
Well not sure what it is called in Vista Ultimate anymore but I'm sure it's is Outlook and not Outlook express...

I have installed Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1, and MS outlook, but still unable to sync. I don't think windows firewall would affect this.
Spoke to HTC and I think I might have found the problem. Vista Ultimate comes with a even more watered down version of Outlook express called windows mail and this mail program does not allow the sync features LOL , to think you buy a top of range OS but it does not come with a crappy mail program that does not allow you to sync your contacts and calendar.
Can't find any other threads on this, but when I attempt to sync my (stock 2.2 ROM) Android with HTC Sync 3.0.5481, I'm getting, "Can not sync contacts from PIM" messages.
Anyone any ideas? It's worked flawlessly for weeks/months.
Happend to me once with HTC sync. 3.0.5511, needed to just restart Outlook (2007).
also what OS are you using with what version of office?
Windows 7, with Office 2007.
Its been working with this config for the last few months no problems.

I was having this problem just now on an XP SP3 machine with HTC Sync V3.0.5511. (actually, I've been having the problem for a month or so now!). Froyo 2.2 ROM (Official HTC/Telstra release) on the phone. It was working at first for a few weeks then stopped working for contacts and appointments. I uninstalled and reinstalled the HTC software & drivers a couple of times without joy, and checked and rechecked Outlook 2010 settings and folder locations too (rebooting between each attempt).
What fixed it just now was: on the PC, clicking Start, then "Set Program Access and Defaults", selecting "Custom" then selecting "Outlook" in the "Choose a default email program" section. Restarted HTC Sync and plugged the phone in (with Outlook 2010 not running) and the error message is now gone. Checked my phone calendar for the appointments I'd added in Outlook today and confirmed they had synced to the phone correctly.
I hope this helps someone else. YMMV

Happened to have this issue too (I'm running a HD2 SD Desire HD build though). Searched and this thread came up. I also happen to be running Outlook 2007 & HTC Sync 3.0.5511 as well. Restarted Outlook 2007 & all is good again!
Unable to copy contacts from PIM
Thanks guys - after months of trying & talking to HTC (who were clueless as to how to help) I've finally got it sorted.
I'm running Win 7, Office 2007 with Sync V 3.0.551.
What fixed it for me was dweebken's advice: Manually set Outlook as the default email program. In Win 7 this means:
Click Start
Click Default Programs
Click "Set program access and computer defaults"
Click the Custom button & hit the arrows to expand the selection
Select Outlook as the default email program
Hit OK.
To be safe I rebooted after this, but I'm not sure if this will be absolutely required, and it's run fine since.

Awesome. Love it whenever problems get solved. It ain't funny not being able to sync one's contacts all of a sudden.... and especially when those contacts run into thousands.
Glad I found this thread. I'm having the same problem, but with the calendar. Worked fine for a month or so, then today, couldn't read the PIM. None of the solutions seem to work for me, though. Windows XP SP3, Outlook 2007, HTC Merge Android 2.2, build 2.01.573.3.
Any other suggestions?

Yes. I had more probs later on that no fiddling would solve, so I called HTC support. They went through all the things I'd already tried, then suggested a 'soft' reset of the phone. To them this meant shutting down the phone and removing the battery from the back. Leave it out of the phone for 10 mins at least (I left it for 30 for good measure!) Reboot the PC too. Then reinserted the battery and started the phone. Once everything settled down on the home screen I tried resynching again and got joy again.
As usual, YMMV
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I have same problem, when I use HTC sync to sync my new HTC Desire Z, I receive the message "Unable to copy contact from PIM"!!!
I use Outlook 2007, and windows XP-SP3
Hope someone can fix to guide me to fix the problem !!
Thanks

Try going into Internet Explorer. Tools | Options | Programs.
Set the "E-mail" to "Microsoft Office Outlook".
This worked for me. (XP SP3, Office 2003 SP3, HTC Sync 3.0.5579, HTC Sensation).
Not all items are appearing, but we run Novell GroupWise behind Outlook (something that isn't the cleanest).
Cheers,
Mark
In my case when I was on stock ROM the HTCsync just stopped working w/o any reasons with the same message. I could not get it sorted out, and finally I moved to MyPhoneExplorer as a backup tool. Be careful however and do not restore google contacts from tool since it messed up my phone database so badly that I started to have FC (due to NPEs on sqlite level) and had to factory reset... in fact I just jumped into custom ROMs world because of it.
-andy.
Great!! Setting the OUtlook as default option looks like its working.. Its started syncing and didnt give the error yet. I have a large number of contacts and appointments.. but if its gotten so far..looks like it'll go all the way..
Thank you very much.
Unfortunately with Windows 7 and outlook 2010 there is an issue where it will not let you set outlook as default. It says it will then when you go back in it is back to the default settings. Looked all over to a solution and the only thing that made sense was a conflict between 32 bit and 64 bit architecture.
thanks Jsmac
work perfectly, no error anymore perfect sync all music and pics
