I have managed to lose my use cable and unfortunately I've reset my xda iis since it was sync'd. I know I should be able t connect it to my wifi router but I gather there's no way to do it without first setting up a partnership using the cable? Is this correct? Can anybody clarify please?
That's my understanding. If your PC has Bluetooth, maybe you can set up the initial sync via BT, then get WiFi working. Haven't tried it -- I always do wired sync first.
I havent dont it for a while but I always had to sync with usb or serial before the bt sync would work also.
Unfortunately this isn't possible. After a little testing to confirm what I already thought. Active Sync requires the partnership to be set up via a cabled connection either USB or serial.
The availability of a serial connection might lead you to believe that setting up a bluetooth serial connection should circumvent this problem but it just doesn't work.
If ya lived ever so sighly nearer I'd lend you mind hehe.
Good luck

Thanks for the input. I'll just clarify that it is possible to create a partnership using bluetooth as that's how i first got my connection setup, having no usb cable. Unfortunately the bt was unreliable for my internet so I exchanged it for wifi at my local store. Only problem is I hard reset the XDA since and lost the partnership.
Create activesync partnership with Infrared
Your answer is Infrared dude. I deleted my partnership & then created & re-sync'd using IR.
haven't got IR on my pc tho!
If you setup your Bluetooth to sync over a BT serial port and set activesync to sync over that port then it should work.
Cheers for the input, but i've not got IR or bluetooth, just wifi on my pc.
Check on eBay, I picked up a cable pretty cheap there - not a complete crade, just a lead with a connector on
Great idea. I've just ordered one for £3 inc postage. just have to wait now till I can install any software on my xda.

I have purchased a Polstar Gmouse GPS with XDA serial and power cable. The GPS seems to be powered up but the software on the XDa says it does not recognise a connection. All possible com port settings and speeds have been tried. My first question is Has any one connected a gps device through an XDa o2 serial / sync connector succesfully ?
My second question are there any settings in the windows software to control the serial connection to plug in devices ?
I am about to return the GPS products for a refund but I thought I should ask for help first.

Go to settings/connections, make sure that the recive incoming beams box is UNCHECKED. If you have the driver for external keyboard loaded make sure the driver is disabled. In your gps software choose nmea 4800 and Com 1. If you have done all that then I would suspect the cable or the gps. I have used many different serial gps devices on xda and xda 2 and it works 100 percent.
Fan bloody tastic
Well I was going to post a similar question as the OP but with a little browsing, it looks like I may have found my answer. Will go & experiment, if it fails.....I'll be back!!! Watch this space! 8)
Cannot open com1 port does not exist
I have had a major problems connecting my GPS recently and not thinking!!! I had recently bought a infrared keyboard. You're instructions worked perfectly. You have just solved my problem. Many Thanks

I'm pretty sure i have everything setup on the pc right. Serial port is configured in WIDCOMM drivers as COM5. Activesync is setup to listen for COM5.. but on the ppc all i see is a serial port selection in the bluetooth mgr and not activesync.. Anyone have any tips to get it working correctly?
It isn't real clear from your post, but I assume you are trying to set up bluetooth sync.
Some avenues for you to explore:
Have you set up a partnership through USB connection? If not, this should be first on your list of things to do.
Have you paired the devices? Turn your PPC to discoverable in bluetooth settings and have your PC search for new devices. The wizard should pick up the PPC and walk you through the pairing process.
Does your bluetooth module support the correct services? Older bluetooth dongles and radios might not support syncing pim info.
I have the exact same Problem.
Did everything like it is described here in the forums. Firewalls and antivir deactivated. Used the right COM ports. Settings in Active Sync match. Pairing successful. The WIDCOMM-Driver even renames the Serial Port to ActiveSync after pairing. But even after all that, if I'm trying to get a Connection from my phone by using the ActiveSync on my phone with "connect via bluetooth", I cannot see ActiveSync there, just Serial Port. Switching on the Beam (like in some boards suggested) had no success either.
I tried reinstalling all. I tried my desktop PC and my Laptop (same problem). ActiveSync does know the XDA when I'm using a cable. I tried deleting the profile and create it again. I tried the Microsoft bluetooth stack instead on my laptop. I tried using another COM-Port. I tried deleting the pairing from the registry on the phone.
I have a XDA Neo / HTC Prophet with WM6 ProphetTouchIX, an Anycom BT-200 Bluetooth Dongle with WIDCOMM based driver. WINXP SP2 with the newest Security updates and Active Sync 4.5.
If anyone has any new suggestions, please post them here. If you have the exact same problem, post here, what you've tried to solve it, maybe we can at least find out, what's causing it.
found this one here:

seems to be the same problem.
if you have Touch IX installed, you need the bluetooth fix from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342302 .
worked for me. Give it a try!
i've got a rather stupid problem.
first of all, i got the orig. O2 XDA Orbit WM6 rom on this toy
so no weird, tuned firmware or anything unknown..
i wanted to sync my artemis with my "old" computer (new is a mac.. doenst work verry well) runing XP home SP2. It worked for months perfectly, worked with WiMo5 and 6. It actually DID work!
Normaly i use the USB for syncing, then i got lazy a few weeks ago and changed it to BT. I had quite a fight to get i work but in the end it worked fine and wireless...
Then i did not sync it for about a month. And today i wanted to sync it again.
BT Dongle wasn't anywhere to find so i plugged in the USB. The Display "light up" so everything is normal... Active Sync starts to turn (the icon in the Systray, next to the clock). After a few minutes AS wrote that there is no connection. I re-plugged the USB. No change. I uninstalled AS and installed the latest version directly from MS's homepage. No change!
I tried it with BT. The BT on my computer recognized a artemis. wow! great! AS starts and my BT Connection-software tells me "connection cancled". Damn!
I changed the Computer. No running a Win Vista HomePremium 32bit, plugged the phone in, it recognieses some thing (4 i think it was...)
But i can't find the phone. No problem, so i thought. I downloaded from MS the Mobile Device Center. unplugged an plugg it in again - no change!
Somehow my phone is not recognized as phone for AS.
The Battery is charged now so, some things work and some thinks not.
I need the sync! Win XP oder Vista doesn't matter. But how the hell i get this thing to work again?!
I deleted now all "connections" in AS on the Computer an on the Artemis.
So actually it should tell me that i have to configure what to sync. but it doesn't!
Anybody an idea what might be wrong?
Do you charge ur Artemis in a car? its a common problem that having your phone on charge whilst starting the engine causes the USB control board to get damaged, so you can still charge, but the USB connection doesnt work for Syncing.
Needs a new USB board if this is the case, which is covered by warrenty, or can be repaired for around £20 (phone repair shops).
i often charge my phonein the car.
it never made any problems - until now!
i should contact my provider (o2) and make them repair my phone?!
yeh, as long as your phone is under a year old, O2 will repair for free (under warrenty)
first of all - dont be so pessimistic, make a backup/hard reset and check again.
It is a usual problem( at least, for me) if you use your pda to sync with several computers via diff ways.
Had a similar problem with a faulty connector on an Xda IIi which was 3 months old and had lots of trouble getting it repaired under warranty.
The problem is that they send it off to a repair depot who analyse the fault and then come back to you a couple of weeks later saying it's your fault and that they will not repair it under warranty i.e. you've got to pay.
A couple of letters and a call to Customer Retentions did the trick though
when it *first* happened to mine, i sent mine off to T-Mobile in a bag that they sent me, and 2 days later is was back again, fixed!
i've got to say that T-Mobile seem to have good servicing, not that the products should need repairing in the first place!
Have you tried a different cable?
I have one cable that only allows me to charge (must be damaged somehow) but all the others work fine with it.
i tried 4 cabels!
i wrote an email to o2 --> no answer yet
hard reset will be next thing to do. normal reset is done, no change!
but mayB o2 will simply give me a new one
i wouldn't mind
try, as well, to delete all partnerships, on pc and pda as well
I get that problem randomly also.
I've had it happen on 2 different computers, Win 2k Pro, Win XP Pro, Active Sync 4.2, Active Sync 4.5, WM5, WM6...
The best solution for any problems with any combination I had was REBOOT THE COMPUTER.
Worked every time.
they are delted.
no change
o2 wrote an email:
un-check the "hook" in settings - connections - usb2pc
or
hard rest should help
well as far as i know, i checkt the usb2pc thing, un-checked, checked it again... i tried quiet a lot. so this won't help
hard reset will be done as soon as i find out how to save all the sms, mms from the phone... anybody an idea?
to save your messages?
about sms - "jeyo mobile companion" will surely help you
mms? try sktools - i saw there backup of pocket outlook folders.
br
thank you.. jeyo helped
has anyone repaired his device usb already.Could you post where is the best place and cost to repair XDA Orbit's USB.
Thank You
First time I connected my phone to the PC, ActiveSync didn't work. Same simptoms, battery was charging, but no connection from AS. Turned out "DHCP Client" service was stopped in Windows. Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. See if the status of that service is "Started". It is by default.
Hi, thanks for your suggestion.all the system services are ok.I have orbit 2 and syncs like a charm.the orbit 1 unfortunately lost that ability due to a car charging problems as described above.I need to send it for repair but don't know where and how much that would cost me.
Thanks
MY GOD.... you mean it's a KNOWN fact the car charger ruins your artemis...
does this happen with 5V 1amp charger
or with a normal "usb" charger 5V 0.5amp....?!
both for car use.
car charging shouldnt be a problem if you plug it in AFTER you started the car (dont blame me though). when starting the car, there seem to be some possibility of high current peaks that can damage your device. i guess it also depends on the car...
I am not a very tech person but what I read in this forum is showing that exactly when you start the engine and your artemis is pluged in to the charger this thing happens.
I did hard reset, tryed 3 diferent usb cables and still no reacton. It is definately a hardware problem Mr Samov.
Regards
I have never tried the bluetooth connection on my exec until now.
I received my new Bluenext BN-906GR today and I can't make it associate with the EXEC.
I have entered the data on the bluetooth connection such as the passcode and the port, but the info which came with the GPS device says to select SPP slave on the connection which is not offered by the XDA connection tabs.
I have deleted the connection and tried over and over again. The only time I get a solid bluetooth LED on the device is when I enter the pass code, after that it goes back to blinking led which means it is not connected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The XDA exec is running WM5 oS5.1.195
Thanks
Tony
Ah - I solved it. The instructions that came with the kit gave me the wrong instructions regarding ports to set in the software. In fact when I just try to make a connection in bluetooth, it won't connect, however, with the correct port set in tomtom, the darned thing works just fine when I run the tomtom software. It is definitely not set up as the instructions say, but it works just fine.
For information in case anybody chances on this thread later with the same problem, I set the outgoing port to com 8 in the bluetooth settings page and set the same port in tomtom as the port to talk to. I have not set bluetooth on in the bluetooth settings page, tomtom sets it up for me.
OK, this may be a bit naive, especially since T-Mo is rumored to stop tethering on the TM506 in later updates (heaven forbid SIM provisioning), but I would like to tether the Dash to the TM506, like a PC, via BT and only have data on the TM506. I really love my Dash for now and the TM506 has HSPDA 3.5G. Can this be done? Can any additional WM6 software accomplish this?

Find my thread on Bluetooth Dun, it has the software you need, just install it on your T-Mobile Dash to the main memory. If you cannot find it get back with me...........!
Thanks for the quick reply and advice.
I'll search your threads to find the DUN Posts and post back in a few days. So I quess the Dash can dial to T-Mo 3G using the TM506 modem via BT. Great!
I just wonder if there is a way to configure DUN without it eating minutes. Previously, when I set up connection teaming on a laptop with the Dash and a Samsung T409 using DUN, minutes on my plan began to mysteriously get used.
Is it possible to use T-Mo DUN without eating minutes off your plan?

That's a beautiful little Sony phone, I saw it in the T-Mobile store yesterday. I believe it will work, if you cannot find the software, I will PM you a link to the BT dunn software a little bit later. I got to find it also, but I have it.........!
I found it
Look for a PM in the next 10 minutes.........!
The BlueTooth Dunn File
Below is the BT dunn file, install it to the main memory, you still will need the configuration set up.........!

Thanks, I still have it in my downloads from the last time you helped me. I didn't really need it then because my modded Dash had BT DUN enable for PC to Dash modem. Hope it works for Dash to TM506 modem.
Update: I installed the app to main memory but I don't see a program link or folder in program files. I'm guessing something went wrong but the install was reported as successful.

Nothing is wrong, it's there, you will not see anything, but it will work, pair the devices. Let me know how things work out for you....!
Sorry, Techhology but I still can't figure this out. The Bluetooth services of the TM506 only list Input Device and Serial Port. Give me a few more pointers. Thanks.

Print a picture of what you are working with on the Sony TM506, I would love to make this work. Another thing did you get the 2 devices paried.......?
Yes the devices are paired. The TM506 sees these services on the Dash: Object Push, File Transfer, Audio Remote Control and target. The Dash sees these services on the TM506: Input Device and Serial Port.
It appears that the SE PC Suite connects to the TM506 through BT serial port. You can also use BT dial-up networking directly instead of BT serial port.
If it were possible to have the Dash use the BT serial port on the TM506, like the SE PC Suite, then it might work. But I can't find any function in the Dash to do this.
I was also successful in connecting two PC's to the TM506 via BT. One via BT DUN and the other via BT PAN. The PC's had internet but the connections seemed very slow.

Ok, you will not see anything the Dash but the BT dunn file are there. Do you have a BT set up on the TM506?
Somthing tells me this would have been easier with a PPC instead on a Smartphone. GRIN
I can use DUN from a PC to both the TM506 and the Dash just fine. But I can't seem to figure out how to use DUN from the Dash to the TM506.
Many BT profile features on the TM506 are not visible to the Dash. Especially DUN and PAN. The BT serial port is visible but theres no application on the Dash to take advantage of this like the SE PC Suite does.
I've attached a picture of the BT services provided by the TM506 to a PC using the Widcomm BT stack.
Looks like the picture is too small. I'll try to post a better one.
Larger Photo of TM506 BT service to a PC with Widcomm BT Stack. The SE PC Suite uses the Serial Port to connect. Use can also use Dial-Up directly. In the photo I was using PAN - notice the green connected icon.
