my on/off button stopped functioning...
i was wondering how i would do a hard reset without the on/off button...
Hard reset tool
Hello
Here is a free tool to make a hard reset without on/off button
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/hardresetforpocketpc.shtml
You can use many proggies that can do soft reset & hard resets. Either that, or you can simply drain your batt till 0%, then wait till the backup pack is also drained.
g'luck mate
or just take out the battery and leave for half hour. when u put battery backin, it hard resets.

hi guys,
Recently the phone was in my pocket and loads of things were opened and pressed accidently... now it appears i cannot switch off my XDAIIs by just pushing the power button.
All i can do is push and hold for like 3 seconds and it turns the light off, i've exhausted all the options and menus, but still cant find anything!
Does anyone know a way to fix this please?
:?:
I'm not sure what the experts will say but I'd do a hard reset after backing up my data.
Steve
I take it you've tried a soft-reset? If so, a hard-reset may be the only option. I'd look into enabling button lock, or buy a hard metal case which will protect your PPC and also prevent the buttons from being pressed!
My mate killed his pda by sitting on it in his back pocket!
a hard reset fixed this problem, thanks!
Same Problem!
Hi to the list,
i have the same problem as Killer_Bit had.
I've done all the suggestions posted for this topic as making an hard reset but i still have the problem. Is there any other suggestion that can help me to solve this dam problem?
Any help will be really apreciated.
Ciao
Enzo.
Maybe take the battery and the backup battery out. This would allow the device to become completely inert. Maybe that would work. You can't do it any harm
I may be misreading this, but if you press for 3 seconds it will turn the backlight off. To turn it off press the off button quickly and release it.
I do sometimes get it where when I press the off button it takes a few seconds to turn off, but not all the time.
Hi Guys,
no way for me it does'nt want to work.
Last night i took off the battery for all the night so the backup battery could even be flat.
This morning i replaced the battery and retested it but it stiil won't switch off.
It switch on but not off.
Any other suggestion?

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM MATE!
Mine worked after a hard reset for about 1 day but nows it back to normal wont turn off but will turn on and dimm the backlight after a long press.
Also i have pda.02.co.uk trying to load up every second of the day! Could this be a button pressed in perhaps somewhere?
Cheers!
I had same problem with my Qtek9090, and i found solution.
Unfortunately it was hardware problem, and i had to disassemble whole machine.
Explorer and ok key was also not working, so i took them out and peeled film of from circuit board. There was some dirt and oxidisation undeneath button parts.
I cleaned buttons and assembled machine back and power button also started to work like before.
I believe that those buttos leaked current and affected also power button function on pda.
What ever it was, it´s working really fine now.
So if you are not inclined to take your pda apart, take it to the repair shop.
Cheers!

Hi ik8ozv and Killer_Bit,
A friend of mine has the same problem... I was wondering if the installed ROM has something to do with it or not... So write me please what kind of ROM do you have?
Also Killer_Bit, how did you perform a hard reset without using the Power Button? (Soft reset and Record and Camera button?)
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Regards,
tetriska
OK. Finally, getting somewhere. Seems like it is a hardware problem, needs cleaning... Is there's anyone else out there with a successuful cleaning/repair of similar problem?
Thanks.
Opening the device and cleaning the front buttons helped me too.
It seems to be the only solution.
I have the Siemens sx-66 pocket pc phone and it really got annoying having to wait 1 minute for the device to go into standby mode. Because my power button no longer powers the device off. So i googled and searched around until i found this freeware program http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/psshutxp.shtml It is a utility that when once installed, can be used to power down, reset, or turn off the backlight. With an interphase similar to the windows xp power-down prompt.
This i found to be much better than waiting a full minute for the device to power down.
I mapped the program to my calendar button since i never use calendar anyway, and when the program pops up, i tap "Turn Off" and it instantly puts the device into standby.
This doesn't fix the Hardware power button malfunction, But it sure beats waitin' around wasting precious battery.
Hi
I'd recommend hard resetting your PDA and starting all over again.
I'm 99% sure that your device will go to standby correctly after cleaning it up (hard reset).
Remember to backup your data.
already tried hard resetting. Once accidently (let my sister play with it until the battery was COMPLETELY dead). and 2 more times intentionally from reccomendations (after making back-ups of course). Still had the same problem afterwards. I'm happy with the program.
p.s. Best part is it's free!
i had purchased the ASUS P525. unit is less than 6 mnths old.
whilst i was using the calculator, it just switched off.
It does not start.
it does not reboot, does not respond to hard reset.
i have tried removing the battery.(which was about 50% charged before issue)
i have tried plugin in the charger, no change, is dead, except the green light comes on when plug into charger.
i have tried reset button(no effect)
effectively the unit is dead right now,
zero respose or operation.
its basically dead
Anyone faced this before ?
Any ideas ?
please help
thanks
Have you try to make a Hard Reset?
(with the joystick up + reset)
Best Regards
fernando
hi fernando,
yes, i have already tried the hard reset, and still no response.
still lifeless
any other ideas \sugestions ?
thanks
try holdin ur power button for a long time.....
I dropped my Asus P525 while biking and now it doesn't respond to anything I do with it (removing the battery, soft reset, hard reset, long press on power on button). When I plug in the charger, the indicator light lit up and turned to green after a while which means that it can still charge the battery.
I tried to take off the battery for a few minutes and after inserting it back, the blue Asus welcome screen was shown but then it went blank again and doesn't respond to any keypresses again.
Is my P525 dead already? Anything else I can do?
My first issue is that my keyboard stops functioning when i type. i have to go to the menu and reactivate the QWERTY. the QWERTY is already bubbled i just have to pick it again. Its weird my girlfriends phone has the same problem.
also sometimes when i create a new text my phone turns off i have to take out the battery for it to turn on again.
any solutions?
also it randomly switches to another app that i didnt even open... and it loads super slow any ideas?
Hard Reset!
Try to hard reset your phone...although you did not write what ROM you are using?!
I am using stock 6.5 and have never had any problems whatsoever.
my phone is completely stock. what do you mean by hard reset? the reset button under the battery cover? wont that reset everything and delete everything?
The reset button under the battery cover is just for a soft reset (like restarting your computer, it turns off and then turns back on by itself) and you don't loose any information. To hard reset, you need to turn the phone off then hit the call button, end button, and the power button all at the same time. This will erase everything an put it back to the out-of-the-box state. Your user manual will probably better explain since mine is from recent memory.
any other ideas why this might be happening?
also it randomly switches to another app that i didnt even open... and it loads super slow any ideas?
When I put my TP2 in standby with the powerbutton it has started to turn itself on after appr. 10 seconds. Then it is on until the battery is dead, the automatic backlight off does not work.
It is not like this all the time but when it has started I cannot stop it. Everytime I push the powerbutton it starts in ten seconds. Soft reset does not help either. It stops when it feels like it I think. . .
Have tried hard reset three times but it starts again.
I think it started with the latest rom update but I am not sure.
No one that heard of TP2 turning on itself?
