hi guys,
Recently the phone was in my pocket and loads of things were opened and pressed accidently... now it appears i cannot switch off my XDAIIs by just pushing the power button.
All i can do is push and hold for like 3 seconds and it turns the light off, i've exhausted all the options and menus, but still cant find anything!
Does anyone know a way to fix this please?
:?:
I'm not sure what the experts will say but I'd do a hard reset after backing up my data.
Steve
I take it you've tried a soft-reset? If so, a hard-reset may be the only option. I'd look into enabling button lock, or buy a hard metal case which will protect your PPC and also prevent the buttons from being pressed!
My mate killed his pda by sitting on it in his back pocket!
a hard reset fixed this problem, thanks!
Same Problem!
Hi to the list,
i have the same problem as Killer_Bit had.
I've done all the suggestions posted for this topic as making an hard reset but i still have the problem. Is there any other suggestion that can help me to solve this dam problem?
Any help will be really apreciated.
Ciao
Enzo.
Maybe take the battery and the backup battery out. This would allow the device to become completely inert. Maybe that would work. You can't do it any harm
I may be misreading this, but if you press for 3 seconds it will turn the backlight off. To turn it off press the off button quickly and release it.
I do sometimes get it where when I press the off button it takes a few seconds to turn off, but not all the time.
Hi Guys,
no way for me it does'nt want to work.
Last night i took off the battery for all the night so the backup battery could even be flat.
This morning i replaced the battery and retested it but it stiil won't switch off.
It switch on but not off.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks.

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM MATE!
Mine worked after a hard reset for about 1 day but nows it back to normal wont turn off but will turn on and dimm the backlight after a long press.
Also i have pda.02.co.uk trying to load up every second of the day! Could this be a button pressed in perhaps somewhere?
Cheers!
I had same problem with my Qtek9090, and i found solution.
Unfortunately it was hardware problem, and i had to disassemble whole machine.
Explorer and ok key was also not working, so i took them out and peeled film of from circuit board. There was some dirt and oxidisation undeneath button parts.
I cleaned buttons and assembled machine back and power button also started to work like before.
I believe that those buttos leaked current and affected also power button function on pda.
What ever it was, it´s working really fine now.
So if you are not inclined to take your pda apart, take it to the repair shop.
Cheers!

Hi ik8ozv and Killer_Bit,
A friend of mine has the same problem... I was wondering if the installed ROM has something to do with it or not... So write me please what kind of ROM do you have?
Also Killer_Bit, how did you perform a hard reset without using the Power Button? (Soft reset and Record and Camera button?)
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Regards,
tetriska
OK. Finally, getting somewhere. Seems like it is a hardware problem, needs cleaning... Is there's anyone else out there with a successuful cleaning/repair of similar problem?
Thanks.
Opening the device and cleaning the front buttons helped me too.
It seems to be the only solution.

Ok guys weird problem here. I was using my blueangel today, everything fine, went to turn it off using the power button and it didnt go off. Wifi was on so i thought it was just being slow like it sometimes is to turn off when wifi is on. However, sadly no.
Now it will not turn off using the power button. If i hold the button down then it will turn the backlight on and off as usual, also if i wait for it to turn itself off then the power button will turn it back on so i cant understand.
I have tried hard reset and even reinstall firmware and still the same is happening. Anyone have any ideas it just seems really weird that the other functions of the button seem to be working but just not the power off.
Please Help.
Thanks Guys.
I had the exact same problem, and all I can say is that it is better now - it just fixed itself randomly.
My advice until then is to set the self-turn off time to the minimum value, and wait the 30secs to turn it off.
How weird.
How strange, how long did it take until it started working again. Mine hasnt sprung back in to life yet, but then it has only been a day or two. Also did you try to fix the problem with hard resets like i did or did you just leave.
Thanks for responding.
Rob.
I tried a few hard resets to no avail. At around the same time (though they started independently) I also had a problem where only a few items would actually show up on my today screen, despite being enabled. At this time I was on holiday in tunisia, phone on flight mode the whole time to save battery since I couldnt get any coverage.
When I got home to the UK, I tried to see if luton airport had a wifi network. I didnt find anything, but mysteriously my two problems had fixed themselves over the course of the flight.
Very odd. I cant think of anything that would have trigerred the self-fix.
(For the record, I dont think it was the flight mode on/off switching, as I'm pretty sure I turned that on/off a few times while the problem was still prevalent).
Again, all I can say is leave it and hope.
Yeh mine's doing this. My power button actually broke off board a few months ago but got it fixed and I thought it had come off again but the only prob is switching screen on, if I hold it the backlight goes off
Has anybody else had a problem with there Orbit randomly switching it's self off. This usually happens when it's in my pocket (and I thought it was a mobile phone!!!).
Do you mean the black screen of death? As far as I could tell my Orbit is still responsive but the screen will not turn back on when this happens.
It's perplexing, but it has happened to me a couple of times- I usually have to remove the battery to turn it off and get it back to a workable state again.
No mine turns it's self off. I have to press the power button to reboot it.
If you hold the power button in for long enough the Orbit powers down (fully off) anything catching the button or perhaps a faulty on/off button?
Could be but I try to be carefull when I'm handling it and to not touch the button. It's turned off when I put it into it's cradle in the car before so I reseated the battery and thought that had cured it. Didn't take too long before it started again though. I'll probably take it back to the O2 shop and get the run around from them!!!!
its been a long time since the thread was written but I have the same problem---if you apply pressure to the back panel, it switches itself off for some reason....anyone else got the same problem?
oh yeh that is so true! I just tried it whilst reading it here and it switched off. could be just the way that it was made. although i suggest you dont keep trying it could be potentially harmful!.
Well... before realizing the problem was the power button/switch I read another posts about batteries, so i bought a brand new one and let the phone charge.
The thing is that the battery is at 100% and the only way to make the phone turn on is by taking off and puting on the battery and most of the times it works, not always. Then i get to the home screen and it turns off by itself. Only once i could keep the phone on without shutting down automatically. If I try to turn it off or on by the power button it does not respond. Any Suggestions?
Pls, not a single answer...
I cannot use my phone my friends, throw me some help pls

You can't do much if your power button is broken, sorry. There is no way you can power up your phone
Everytime I boot my phone up, it works fine up until when the screen goes into sleep mode. Once it goes into sleep mode I cannot turn the screen back on, it stays black. The keyboard, end and answer key lights show up when I press the power button but the screen just stays black no matter what button I press.
I end up having to either take the battery out or using the stick to press the reset button on the side in order to get the phone to where I can see the screen again. I have adjusted the settings to where the screen doesnt go into sleep mode and the screen just stays on but that drains my battery. I want to be able to have my screen go off so I can save power but if it goes off it wont come on again until I reboot.
I have done a hard reset. This problem started happening to me when I started using the Energy Rom but I've even flashed different Roms and the problem still exist.
Somebody please tell me what's wrong! I need help! This is a big annoying problem to have. Thanks.
is this problem occurring when you slide the keyboard out?
i had the t-mobile touch pro2 with this problem.
the screen would die when the keyboard was out and not come back.
if this is the case, what i did was...
well. obviously not open the keyboard fully.
but if i accidentally had.
instead of pulling out the battery, i waited...
till the screen 'naturally' went to sleep.
than i would pull out the stylus or press power button
and the screen would come on.

Yes the problem still exist even when I slide the keyboard out. Once the screen goes off, that's it....pressing the power button to get it out of sleep mode, sliding the keyboard, I press all buttons and nothing works. The only thing that "works" to get the screen back on is removing the battery or using the stylus to press the reset button.
When sliding the keyboard out the keys light up but the screen doesn't come on, also pressing the power button lights up the end and answer keys without the screen coming on.

so. whenever the screen goes out, period, you cant get it back?
or the screen goes out and cant get it back once you slide the keyboard out?
if it is only when sliding out the keyboard...
try not opening the keyboard fully on the right side.
on my rhodium, after that point, the screen goes out.

Yes, period. Also, you know when you put your face to the phone during a call and the screen goes off so your face wont press anything on the screen? It doesn't come back on from that either once I end the phone call, it just stays black. I'm assuming you don't have any other suggestions. This Sucks

: / sorry. i am unsure.

This has to be a software issue but I don't know where to start. I'm surprised nobody else has encountered this problem. I've grown frustrated of this issue because I don't understand why it's doing this. I have had the phone for almost 6 months only dropping it once 4 months ago and it wasn't a strong damaging drop that would affect anything inside. I guess I'll just have to go last resort and call warranty to swap the phone out. Thanks for the help.
Same problem

My phone also dos not come back on, when I put it in out the sreen with the power button on top, or when the phone goes to sleep. Nothing can put it back on(opening te keyboard, pulling out the stylis, presing the answer-, windows-, back- and end button). I and up using a music players too keep the phone busy what's makes it operational. Cant really remember when this started happening exactly. My phone is at the moment loaded with a standard ROM. I used too have a custom ROM.
My TP2 does this too, although I only encounter the problem sometimes when someone calls. I answer and put the phone next to my ear, the screen goes black as it should and the phone just dies. I can't hear what the other person is saying and the screen wont turn on anymore. I have to take out the battery to reboot.
set light sensor to manual in settings. You have some bad or fragmented code causing the problem. Pretty common actually, many different reasons, but usually either a bad light or proximity sensor or software issue. Setting the sensor to manual should do it, if not, hard reset and allow the phone to fully set up before touching it, to allow full customization process to complete. Search my posts on SOD (sleep of death) for more information.
Funny this was brought up. Now im worried I just dropped 250.00 and have a new one coming.
Mine started with the ear piece quit working. couldnt hear anything except on speaker.
Anyway I started having the screen issue over a month ago, only way to get it back was soft reset with the stylus. Also when the screen was lit, I couldn't hit the power button to turn the screen off. At times the screen would be on 24/7 and I just dealt with it. The times when it decieded to go to sleep was when I needed the soft reset. Well long story short I forgot my charger one day at work and the battery died. after pressing the power button for hours with no response, moving the screen in all diffrent directions as I pressed the button. It came on once after hrs of messing with it. Well today it died again and I am fed up with it so out came the tools. Once I opened it up I noticed the ribbon that feeds the screen from the mother board was worn and torn. the ribbon slides everytime the keyboard is slid out and it rubs on both sides of the phone. I thought maybe mine was just a fluke and was installed wrong considering the phone being 10 months old but now I read this and see maybe its a common problem. The cheapest I could find the Ribbon was 56.00 so I didnt want to chance it not being the issue.
I bought my device (P600) a few month ago,
and suddenly (without changing rom/karnel or doing root) i got a big problem -
when i push the button that close the screen(turn off the screen but the device is still on) or if the screen is turned off automaticly, the screen stay off forever. Even pushing the power button doesnt turn on the screen.
The only way to turn the screen on again is to reset the device (by pushing the power button long press).
I almost sure that the problem is a hardware problem even that it's look like a software problem because after i saw the problem i changed the rom and the karnel to other option to check if the rom/the karnel is the problem and the problem didnt solved.
Someone have a clue which element make the problem?
Thanks (and sorry for my bad english)

I'd bet money on it being a backlight issue.
Test it again in a well-lit room with a bright lock screen wallpaper, something with a lot of bright color. Once the screen turns off, wake the device and look carefully to see if you can see anything. You might have to tilt the screen, but you should see a very faint, dark image.

Amazing that's was the problem!
There is a way to fix it? What is the component that causes this problem?
thank you so much!

Unfortunately I don't know of any solution other than sending it in for warranty coverage or replacing the screen yourself.
I've seen a couple of other posts on XDA involving the same issue, but never saw a solution. I've even seen this issue a couple of times IRL (not on my device, thankfully) and have not been able to find a solution. The two times I've seen this issue, the backlight level could not be adjusted, either. Whether it was set to automatic or manual brightness, it would never adjust, the backlight was locked at a constant level, until the screen turned off, and then the backlight would NOT come on again until the tablet was restarted. Reflashing stock firmware and doing a factory reset did not help, either. On one of those devices, the backlight DID start working again for a while after a manual wipe of internal storage, but only until the tablet was restarted, and I think that might have been a coincidence, I was not able to replicate that again.
So in short, I'm afraid I don't have a good solution other than hardware repair/replacement via warranty.
this has just happened to mine - will have to send it into repair, but it had CLEAN ROM installed so they might argue re the Knox trigger - really annoyed about this!
