Something to kill a process - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Anybody knows if exist some programs able to kill the internal process of PDA? For example to kill the BlueTooth driver.
Thanx, M.

Memaid can be used to close hidden tasks. Not sure if it will close drivers tho?

Check out dexplor, I think it's like $15 bucks or something, but it comes with a task manager and a registry editor, as well as a sweet file explorer... I think it's worth the investment.

If you can find a copy, try Pocket Hack Master 2.45

How to get into registry to tweak

Hi,
I just got my universal and want to apply so simple registry tweaks found on this forum, only I have no idea how to get into the registry. I know this sounds stupid, trying to tweak without any knowledge and experience, but changing a value from 0 to 1 is not beyond me.
So please if anyone would be so kind as to help me out with some info on to do this safely, ‘cause I don’t want to screw up this fantastic device. And without tweaking I would be missing out on a better running universal.
Thanks
There is no built in registry editor in most of the ROMs. You have to install the appropriate program like Resco Explorer, or Regedit etc.
Personally I prefer to use the my PC to edit the registry of my devices.
http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
This app uses the active sync connection to your PC and works with WM5 smartphone & pocket pc.
I personally prefer PHM Registry Editor. It is FREE and has a small foot print, plus it is installed in your device or SD Card if you prefer, so you don't have to drag around your computer just in case you have the urge to change something or try something out. Here is a link: http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml
I prefer Total Commader CE from ghisler.com
thanks for all the suggestions. Only I don't understand how to use total commander to edit the registry. I use it as a great file explorer, but couldn't find a way into the registry.

Yeah - PHM is nice.
@ng .. make sure that you open the root directory on TC. There you wil see that you can select and open the register.
personally, I prefer Resco and have used all the others
Resco provides a much better file exporer, registry, ftp and a recycle bin, not free, but really, this software is cheap for so much extra functionality and simplicity all built into one.
i have TC used PHM and have never used the standard windows explorer built in....

you'll probably have some programs starting up that you don't need and won't see since they're dll. Just use a start up manager to remove them.
I also use oxios hibernate to free some ram once in a while. After the soft reset and all the programs loaded I run it and get back around 5mgs
Oh how do i remove these dll files?? can i remove them permanently? lol

You can use Schaps Advanced Config Tool or SKTools.
If anything goes wrong, you can still hard reset your device ;-)
erm, i mean where do i find these dll files??

Best Practices for cleanup of files and general maintenance

Hello guys, I though it would be a good idea to list some of the best practices as far as cleaning up old files and general smartphone maintenance for the Dash and others.
So who wants to kick it off
uh
hmm besides the usual free memory button that i love to use.. my usual reg tweaks that i have done usually fix some stuff.. but i dont know too much else.. it isnt like you can defrag the b$%ch lol.
1. Free Memory
2. Celetask
3. SkTools --a must have
4. Restart (soft reset)
then Repeat lol!
Sktools - run auto clean then free ram
free memory
clear temp
reboot
The best way to clean all the crap up is to brew your own lite ROM. I just finished an Excalibur ROM based on the latest 20279 core. The homescreen looks like the S740 and the new dialer and comm manager are sweet! It works pretty well so far, but I wanna wait until tomorrow at least to release it to do some early beta testin...
looking forward to it !!!!!!!
Excellent post so far, I also use SK Tools and I have found it to be indispensable, with all the add/remove applications registries are updated and sometimes not re-updated when the applications are deleted. I suppose the best way would be to reflash your unit and load up all the apps you know you will use but that maybe a bit on the extreme side. I'm currently working on a list of all my apps and registration codes to quickly upload them to my unit just in case.
Here is the url for SK Tools http://www.s-k-tools.com/
I also personally love CeleTask not only as a quick launcher but a good tool overall
Can someone elaborate on their use of Celetask besides the "Free Memory" function.
Quick Tip for Celetask Status Bar
How to put the status bar to top?
Edit the Registry value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CeleTask\Flag, add the original value by 1 (e.g. 502 to 503)
enjoy
Anyone care to give a step by step on using SKTools? How, for example, does one autoclean? How else do you guys use it? I have version v. 3.1.9 installed, and also have SKTools Lite available, though not installed.

Auto Clean! should be in your start menu.
Nope... The only thing added to my Start Menu is SKTools. Within SKTools, I get to a screen where I can select various tools such as Clean, Optimize, Tune Up, etc...

WMRegOptimizer - v0.1, October 6, 2008
This small tool was originally inspired by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432966
About
WMRegOptimizer is a small tool that tries to optimize registry access - "defrag" it, if you will. It doesn't perfectly defrag it, but it goes a long way. This results in somewhat faster registry access for applications where this is the bottle-neck.
So this speeds up my device?
Not really. It lowers latency for certain system calls, which may result in some things being a bit faster. It doesn't magically make your device faster, but it may be more responsive in some situations.

Whats a great todo / tasks manager for ppc

I'm trying to find a descent easy tasks replacement program.
Palm had a pretty good todo manager. I'm struggling to find any for the ppc. What does everyone use?
The "tasks" program that comes with winmo sux.
i do use the normal tasks from windows itself..
ofc in combination with titanium
--> it does what is needs to do
If you are under WM6.1, try Wktask !
I've saved a text document called ToDo to my 'Programs' List, then when I click on it in Manilla I get to a straight text file, in which I can write todos/random thoughts which are all there in one document at the touch of the button. When completed, I can just delete the line!
Simple, but effective, just a list and a keyboard.
so far the best one is E-native Showcase task manager
Ok, there seem to be a bit of confusion, well I'm confused anyway, the OP mentions tasks and To Do, but I think to him they are one and the same.
Both E-native Showcase task manager and Wktask are WM 'Task Managers', I think what he wants is a 'To Do' manager to link with the Tasks in Outlook (mobile & desktop).
For my input I used to use SPD Diary as a Today Plugin, the task (To Do) functions were fairly good, I'm not using it now though as I use TouchFlo.

You're right Steve, I'm looking for a todo list. Unfortunately winmo calls their version of todo "tasks"..... which is synonymous with the process manager!... d'oh.
What do you use to make TODO's with touch flo?
I use shopping cart myself, very finger friendly and its essentially a tasks/todo list anyway. I create different tabs down the bottom (groceries, wishlist, todo etc).
Appearance wise it seems to fit in very well with Touch Flo. Just add the shortcut to the Touch Flo programs tab.
You can also set it up to use just 1 text file, save automatically and reopen same file when program is launched. You can have multiple files if you really want to, but I don't bother.

I use PocketInformant to manage my tasks/to do items.
This is a great app for managing numerous categories, projects, etc. Also if you are trying to use a methodology such as GTD, this app is fantastic for this kind of things.
On the other hand, if all you need is to maintain a very simple list, then PocketInformant would be an overkill.
I hope this helps...
Hi there,
i just can recommend MLO.
My Life Organized.

I just use the normal tasks app, with a program link in the start menu, I don't mind opening it that way, but the program itself is so old and unuser friendly.

Mutiple programs won't stay open on my Tilt 2

I've had my Tilt 2 for several weeks now and for some reason, I cannot seem to have more than one app open at the same time. As soon as I open a second program, it kills whatever else was running.
Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? I have Auto Kill disabled...
Help!?
It also happens with my Hermes and Raphael..
My Hermes (Dopod 838 pro) running official WM6 ROM
My Raphael (HTC Touch Pro) running stock WM6.1 ROM (Version 1.9)
It's a big problem, I can't keep my Twitter, downloader, and Messenger app to run at the background..

So let's say you open File Explorer. You press the Windows button. Now you open Word Mobile and make a new document. Now press the Windows button and go to Home. It still says you closed everything in the HTC Task Manager?
If so, that's weird... looks like you bought yourself an iPhone with a keyboard!
For some unknown reason Windows Mobile 6.x will only run a maximum of 32 processes at one time no matter how much RAM is free. This includes all the basic phone etc that's running.
Clever eh ?
That's some amazing forward thinking Microsoft did. It obviously didn't occur to them that someone might come along and release a device with a faster processor and a load of RAM.
Find yourself a process manager program, not the HTC taskmanager. While typing this I had a quick look and I am running 28.
As I recall, WinMo will close apps if it runs low on memory so the first thing I would do is reboot the phone and bring up task manager and see how much free memory you have left. Then keep watching memory as you do what you normally do with the phone. It's not how WinMo is supposed to act by default and my phone doesn't act that way so it's either an app, how you use it or a hardware fault.

Lots of threads on this, and no, it's NOT memory. It's processes.

Not seen one. If you do plz give me a shout ! Don't even know if it'd be possible. To me it seems like it could be a Kernel level issue.

Hi i have tried on Omnia Pro B7610 to avoid auto-closing of apps but the result is not satisfactorie, as everapp is also stopped and besides i cant launch the app (excel or word) from the shorcut after the taskmanager autoclose these. If you have some usefull information regarding this issue i will appreciate it.
