XDA2, Original machine, Help please - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Not a regular poster, but help has been given previously and I hope that you can help now as in the past.
I have 2 backup roms for my xda 2, the first is version 1.72.181, and the second is 1.72.187. Not sure which is best yet, but both work and only occasional crashes. My question is this. Which is the latest (stable) rom available for my ordinary xda2, and where can it be obtained.
I use all the normal software like calligrapher and tomtom, plus some other stuff and am fairly happy with it as is, but am always willing to move forward. Does this WM2005 work with it, and where can I get it if it does. Or what about WM2003SE. Which is best and most stable.
Any help and useful advice is gratefully acknowledged and appreciated.

Every product as versatile as the MDA Pro, deserves it's own comunity. As it's a ground-breaking device and sports a brand new operating system, there are likely to be numerous teething problems.
There are few good sources of information available for the mda pro at present, the best of which being this one. Despite containing everything you could need to know, I found it very difficult for a novice to find info quickly.
Whilst waiting for my phone to arrive, I bought the website www.mdapro.uk , I've set up a forum there, for beginners like my self, to get the full potential out of there phone / mini laptop / PDA ....
I've produced this site as I'm the proud owner of a new MDA Pro and I'm sure I can use it for more than browsing the net on the Loo. There's an obvious need for a site dedicated to the MDA Pro and I hope www.mdapro.co.uk will be helpfull to a lot of people.
www.mdapro.co.uk is for anyone who owns or is thinking of purchasing an I-mate Jasjar / MDA Pro / XDA Exec / HTC Universal or any of it's other guises.
Please join my forum and help to build a community. There's power in numbers and together we can overcome any problems each of us may have. Together we can make the proposition of upgrading to a PDA as simple and pain-free as possible.
Thanks

Tip - get some proper hosting (add-free stuff), and sort the formatting on teh front page out :/ - one slim column of text on the left with adds on teh right and nothing in teh middle.
Its a good idea though, and could probably have been integrated here somehow, providing the admins have the time and inclination to do it.
Thanks for tips!
The big blank bit in the middle is gonna contain a general phone overview, (When I get chance to write it). I've only really been concentrating on getting the forum up and running, which I think is all set up correctly now.
My hosting company seem pretty efficient so far. They were chosen on cost alone. If I get enough members to quantify upgrading, I will search for better hosting. While there's only a handfull of members, my £20 per year hosting should do just fine. At least for now.
If there's anything anyone would like including on the site, I'm more than happy to listen. Likewise to any advice or criticism.
I think making sure you and XDA Devs don't cross the same ground is important, so making sure somehow your site is providing a specific and different service.
Also, I would put a big obvious link back to XDA Devs as a courtesy.
Best of luck.
Joe
Thanks Joe,
I dont want to step on anyones toes, here. I intend my site to be specific to one phone, aimed at begginers and prospective upgraders.
Xda developers is a fantastic source of info for all levels. Its only downfall is that it is difficult for beginners, such as myself, to navigate. I want my site to fill the gap for beginners. I only really want to to include tried and tested methods on my site, rather than experimental material. I will link to xda developers for more advanced users and further reading.
I'm more than happy to include links to this site anywhere it may be relevant.
Sank5!
Just registered on your forum...
Hope it will be a success... at least I am there for you
hee i am one off the newest member i hope to learn a lot overthere.
This is my first pda ,mda so i wil putt my newbie questions there thanks anyway 8)
Thanks for your support
Thanks to everyone who's joined my forum. The sites almost completely functional now, if lacking a bit in content. We currently have a massive 20 users!
Now you've all had your MDA Pro's for a while, I'd appreciate it if you shared your experiences with us. I've been too busy with work and the site to have a good play with my phone, but I intend that to change very soon any hints / advice would be more than welcome.
Does anyone know how to capture a screen shot on the MDA Pro or run a macromedia flash movie as I am getting desperate for both.
Thanks

sank5: for screenshots check out MagicSS. Not perfect but almost.
For Flash, not really sure, but check out a thread on benchmarking the Uni. You can cross reference by searching by my username and vjsihaya.

I have a QTEK 9000. Does this mean i cannot join?
I just tried to access it now but "Cannot find server" came out.
Edited:
It's ok now, seems one ofr the links above says www.msdapro.uk when clicked
@sank5
I use Resco PhotoViewer on my device. It comes with a Screen Capture "add on" which works perfect for me.
Some "always on top" window will be opened in the middle including the button to make the shot (which can be delayed by 10 seconds if You like).
You can browse through all programs to prepare the screen as You need it before taking the shot, nicely working for me.

Ruud

Works well, but much slower than the desktop version. I'm off to checkout MagicSS and Resco PhotoViewer.
Thanks Again

Upgrade to WM5.0, Reassurence needed! N00b!

(reposted in correct forum)
Hi folks,
I was interested in upgrading to WM5.0 from WM2003 on my SPV M2000 (=XDA 2???I'm told it's a blue angel...). However since I've come here i've got the impression that it could be riddled with problems. I'm a total n00b and I've been overwhelmed with different ROM versions and fixes....I wondered if you folks could help me a bit.
Is it worthwhile to upgrade? What has your experience been?
Will old WM2003 programs work on WM5.0 (I have loads of them)
Are there any bugs I should know about or will everything run smooth?
What are the disadvantages?
How do I go about upgrading? I upgraded my ROM once before using an update released by Orange. But the .exe file did it all for me. All I had to do was connect the device via the cradle and click next (pretty much).
Cheers folks! Much appreciated.

PS - is this the correct forum? (I'm guessing SPVM2000 is a hymalaya)
PPS - sorry if some of these questions have come up before. I'm sure a few of them must - I checked as best I could but I'm a total n00b and I'm dyslexic which doesn't make post plodding easy.
Thanks again!
help please! Some of you guys must have some ideas or thoughts that might help me!
Like you I also have an SPV M2000 (yes it is also known as the Blue Angel), and I am still running WM2003, I have done a few ROM upgrades etc so have a very basic understanding but even so am still holding back on upgrading to WM5, my main reason is that my phone is for work, and so need it to be reliable. saying that it sounds like that they have done some fantastic work porting WM5 onto the Blue Angel and one day I look forward to running it (which may be very soon).
Sounds like to me though before making your decision you should read this..

And this

And I REALLY hope you have read the Wiki page which is here...

As with any upgrade there is a chance you will turn your device into a brick, so you need to read thorugh all the previous posts, there is a search tool to allow you to search the forum (USE IT!), I am sure people here would love to help you but have a bit of respect and search the forum first, I expect every question you could think of has been answered before.
Somewhere there is a list of software that has been tested on WM5, cant be bothered to search for it, but I have seen a post on the forum somewhere!
EDIT:
Sorry didn't read the bottom part of you post, that will teach me!! Hope the links I have given you get you started though!!!
Dont bother with WM2005 yet. I tried it a month ago and found little glitches. Overall it was good, but eyecandy doesnt justify the upgrade. Speedwise it's the same.
Also, there's still not as many WM5 programs, as there are for WM2003. Old progs may have issues with WM5. For me that's reason enough to stick with WM2003, since I need stability.
If you hard reset your phone, install only progs that you really need AND use, you'll be amazed how quick and stable it'll be. Yes, BT and WiFi are flaky, but that happens right across the board on all OSes/ROMs.
PS. Avoid any crap that goes onto Today screen.

Help please, Cotel Windows W1 WM5 PDA

Hey folks, great forum. I have searched the forum to no avail
Could someone please help me with the following PDA - it's a cotel Windows W1 PDA running WM5, probably unheard of by most. I bought it in Dubai recently. Is there anyway I can upgrade it to WM6, if so which rom & software should I use. All i know is its running on OMAP730/ARM926T chip. I have no idea of its ipl/spl version or if its G3 or G4, cannot find anything out about it. The following link might give you a little more insight, its the very top left one.
http://www.cotertel.com/cotertel/
I really hope someone can help me out here, thank you much.
**BUMP**
No idea's anyone??
I'd like to know as well. The only thing I was able to figure out is that it runs on a custom WM5 for PocketPC ROM.
bump
good bet to assume no one has played with this phone yet? Yes?

Upgrading to WM6 Help

Hey guys,
I just bought the HTC 8525 (old hardware I know), but it's a start considering this is my first PDA. Anyway, it is currently running Windows Mobile 5, and I would like to upgrade to WM6, because I am finding this quite difficult, for numerous reasons. Number 1, I basically have no idea how to do this, and number two the links that I have found that supposedly have the update for my phone are broken.
To make things clear, I am not asking for a direct answer. I am asking for the resources to learn how to update to WM6 if possible.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Seems like no one is interested or did you get answers elsewhere. I have same question.
I am not familair with that hardware but my staring point would be the XDA-Wiki, if that fails then google and hopefully another forum, maybe even another language...
Good luck

To all Moderators, Programmers and the Experts of WinMo!!!

To all Moderators, Programmers and the Experts of WinMo, why there's are still much problems from the others members that cannot be done or resolve from their threads in each section of forum, including mine?
I suggest to all of you, please help them and me!
firstly of all your link doesn't show your problem
secondly and most importantly: this is not a way to achieve anything except looking like a fool to other members.
everyone has problems, but people mostly search, ask in specific threads and wait for the response,or even come up with own solutions.
you can't come here and say hey solve my problem, it just isn't alright and it seems very selfish.
imagine everyone doing what you did here...the forum would be closed just like this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578575 ...read last few posts and it will be clear to you
isn't it sad, how human foolishness and selfishness can ruin other people's hope and efforts.
and do you really think that someone who had or has a solution for your problem wouldn't tell it to you in first place
Thanks a lots and i'm really sorry Bro, i just need a help cause i can't do it without'em ...
provide us a link...i'll help if i can

Bro, you can see it all the threads started by me that still not resolve yet...
And thanks before
wm 2003 had an option to backup everything...and that option went away with newer generations of wms, coming with newer devices because of the differences in chips and chipsets...
in wm 2002/03 you could loose all your data if your phone was long without battery,it isn't the case with newer devices,so you don't need a backup like that one
i believe you need something like "PIMbackup" which is the best backup app ever IMO,it can backup and restore contacts, messages, apointments,to do,tasks and any folder you choose...and it is free
as far as wm5/6/6.1/6.5 go...i had...i mean i still have an htc magician which also had 2003se,but the hardware just wasn't able to handle newer os ...or at least there wasn't much interest because the device was getting very old...as one guy said to you some time ago...some devices did receive updates ie himalaya...but mostly thanks to dedicated devs and it's hardware....i still have a himalaya which is working...although battery is pretty worn out
so you should stop expecting to successfully cook a rom for you HPs unless you are some kind of programing/win ce guru...
any other questions?

Nothing more question Bro, even i'm already have Atom and Prophet but i'm still hope or expecting for only just WM2003SE for my hp iPAQ h6365 (that still original WM2003) from XDA-Dev Programmers or WinCE Guru's if it still possible cause in my opinion that HTC Magician has succesfully jump to WM6.1 and WM6.5 by Russian ROM Cookers, so how come there's no one ROM Cookers would upgrade hp iPAQ h6365 to just WM2003SE or to WM5?
I need the last big help from you, please ask to Moderators to close this thread if it necessary cause i guess this is no longer usefull anymore ...
And thanks a lot's before!
not true, magician only got a skin that looks just like wm 5/6 but it still is 2003
