So the IIs's (what IS the plural of IIs??) arrived today so serious playi.... er ... product familiarisation has begun.
First off, the colour of the O2 version is very nice (I think the II is looking old fashioned already). The case is ok (I'm not a case fan, I prefer to just lug it around in my pocket).
The keyboard is probably far too fiddly to ever get used by my normal sized pinkies but the blue backlight means that it will look good next to my PS2 even without BT turned on!!!!
The software seems to be up to scratch too, they've even added a decent battery life monitor to the Active and Today screens (The Active screen actually seems fairly usefull this time round!). Not had much of a play with the additional software, apart from those that came with the latest Xda II ROM upgrade ("phone Alison" ....... why is it dialing Colin??), but the GPRS monitor is a welcome addition.
Now onto what, for me, is the most essential part - WiFi and Bluetooth. Let's not beat around the bush, the II was rubbish for both, only really with the latest ROM was the II capable of anything like decent performance with BT Headsets and still didn't support Handsfree. As for WiFi, I used a Sandisk SD card with my II and it was a pain to connect.
Whilst waiting for the release of the IIs we've been playing with iPaq 4150's which have great BT & WiFi tools that even our execs could use!
*WiFi*
Turned the phone on at home and it immediatly sniffed my network (Linksys router) and asking to connect prompted me for my encryption key followed by faultless connection to the internet. Exxxxcelent
*Bluetooth*
My boss had a Nokia CK-7W carkit fitted a few weeks ago, oh how we laughed when the latest II ROM still rendered the II useless in his car!!!! So it was with slight trepidation that we turned the ignition on only for the IIs to find/bond and work perfectly with the kit at first time of asking.
So all in all I'd say that O2 must have actually been listening to us after all (despite not updating the website FAQ's properly since the original Xda). We have a few very good contacts within O2 and had seen a fair amount of info prior to release and received assurances on the above functionality, but I have to say that I didn't believe it till I saw it all with my own eyes!!
Now for some serious testing to see if it's beauty goes further than skin deep

 similar experience when my friend was trying out the Fonix voice stuff on his XDA II. We were in stitches at his attempts to phone my mobile (with "Phone Dave Mobile") and it either not understanding or coming up with a suggestion which was hard to see why it thought it sounded like it. It even suggested a number for my friend's expletive of "Oh f**k this"
lol, fonix is hours of fun for all the family ........... cos it could ring any one of them when you're trying to phone your boss!
The next big test for the IIs will be the built in BT phone kit in the 5 series BMW, hopefully one of our directors will be around today to give it a go.
does the bluetooth in new XDA IIs support audio through your headset?
it would be great if it did, but i doubt it
WiFi / gprs bridging
Can the gprs internet connection be shared out through the WiFi? I'd like my notebook to see it as an access point and use it's network access. Never got this to work with xdaII bluetooth and my powerbook, Apple's BT stack doesn't recognize the widcomm bt "server".
I'll buy one tomorrow if it can bridge the 802.11 and the gprs!
Audio through your headset? not sure what you're wanting it to do here but I'll list the options on the BT new connection Wizard
Hands-free/Headset Setup
ActiveSync
Browse Files on a remote device
Connect to a network
Join a personal network
Exchange Business Cards
Explore a Bluetooth device
As for sharing the GPRS connection via WiFi, it may be possible if you set the connection on the Xda to NOT connect to the internet, otherwise the WiFi settings seem to overide GPRS. Sorry not much help! Couldn't you link them up with BT instead?
GOOD NEWS though
Successfully paired up the IIs with a BMW X5's built in BT phone stuff so it's another tick in the box for O2
Can you hear your MP3's or tomtom voice through your bluetooth headset?
no

Hi there
great report
just a quick question..........I have been ringing o2 daily to enquire about the arrival and keep getting told that it is 'next week'........where did you get your unit from ?? I tried o2 Salisbury on Thursday and they told me that they hadn't received a release date yet !!
cheers!
The phone is out at o2 now, has been since late Thursday evening. It will not be in the stores until Wed/Thu next week.
just call up and order it. I did
Could somebody with the XDAIIs please post the extended Rom files.

I would also need them... please
I ordered ours through our dedicated o2 business team at the beginning of the week, as our commodity manager sent us the product code when the launch got delayed (internal pakaging problems!). The advantages of working for a big company with a corporate o2 deal!
Price wise we don't do so well on hardware, prob cos we pay next to nothing for line rental, I think they were 350 gbp each (ever noticed how u don't pay as much attention when it's not your money?), all "in contract upgrades". I'll double check when I get to work.
Anyhoo, a big box arrived on Thurs and opening it revealed 11 cool gadgets! Still waiting for the accessories to be released though.
I'll check for the cab file later.

How to do it?
Unlock extRom using the unlock tool attached.
reset device
Browse to the extended rom from your desktop computer and copy the files - zip them up and post them here.
is extended rom unlocker the same for Himalaya and Blue Angel?
It unhides both, but it doesn't unlock the Blue Angel. But you can copy the files out of the extROM once you can see them.
HI all, i know these two are the same devies, but which is better? i have a MDA PRO, my girlfriend has the EXEC, she lives in London now and she just got her EXEC about 2 weeks ago, she only puts in her calender and contacts, and she is complaining that it is freezing. Anyone experienceing this too?
Perhaps she has done the O2 ext-rom install?
This would introduce a world of differences for troubleshooting!
I can say from having had a jasjar, an exec and 5 mda pro's that there is no software difference between them, only casing build quality differences.
And hasn't the exec got that silly antivirus on it people have stated to cause freezes and issues?
Hope it helps somehow,
Joe
wow
wow, how come you have had all those devices, they are all the same. Did they break and u kept buying another? rather expensive to keep buying them. She has decided to call O2, so they are replacing it for her. Thanks. I will try to walk her through removal of the antivirus and things that are not needed.
hee obisoft can you post it how to remove the antivirus
thanks 8)
Antivirus
I believe it should be under programs, i don;t have the device, iw ould have to have her ont he phone and tell her where to go and what she sees. When i get it done, i will let you know.
Jasjar was with a stupid contract through expansys which wouldn't allow data use (and a dodgy hinge), exec I still have (from the 99 pound offer from early Jan), and the MDA's from t-mob as my main contract, but kept having issues such as screens, cameras, keys, metal top sticking out and scratching me etc. I swapped out the MDA for a Vario (wizard) in the end so now I am using both.
I think the AV removal is in add/remove proggies isn't it? If not, search here cos I've seen it a few times.
Joe
There are no AV programs on the Exec, as far as I know. That was on other models?

I do confirm Anton's statement: There is no AntiVirus program on the EXEC.
The AV is on the JasJar. All their devices get this dodgy useless AV that you can uninstall right away.
Interesting thing about the Exec freezing, as I have two of them, both installed in corporate mode. One I use as my "production" device and that has got only the software I really use. I hardly soft-reset it and it is very stable, even if I've got 40+ programs installed.
The second one I use for dev, test and trials and has got loads of things installed and that one freezes all the time.
My point then is: If installed in corporate mode and not having any dodgy software, the Exec can ve very stable. The O2 Active UI that installs if you choose the default option is also terribly unstable and should be avoided.
I really find it difficult, solve a simple problem with HTC-Support.
there seems to be no special htc support for htc users in germany. and this problem with my phone, is developing into quite ridiculous story.
well, there is support via email and phone in german, but those people dont really understand, anything.
to cut a very long story - short. i keep sending my phone to htc to repair. but i am getting it back and its still defective
i just talk to someone from htc in london today. and they tell me to sent it to them for the 4th time. wtf i think by now, i should just get a new one. i mean they try to fix it now for 3 month.
i am getting some repair-report, telling me, "phone tested, works perfect" But its not, i just dont hear anything! the damn speaker is broken. i am out of ideas, and believe i j should just dump the desire & walk away.
Best thing is: HTC argues they only change the phone, if 3 repair attempts fail. but they are not counting the attempts so far, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT REPAIR ANYTHING. incredibly but true, HTC broke the speaker
email from today no.10000
"Hey Ivo, (my callcenter contact)
If the speaker fault is the original fault of device and cant be found from ASP, cm needs to send it again (maybe test with other network provider). As well as we and ASP need proper fault discription whats wrong with speaker...
If you know already that from 3times repair was just one HW fault, NO SWAP possible and you need to deal with cm your self, no need for escalation as no SWAP is under these circumstances possible. Customer needs to send device in again to repair centre with a full fault discription. That’s a normal call centre request:
You also should have told the cm directly, that what he was told from a previous agent is not correct:
"if device will be 3 times repaired, we can escalate cms case and probably will recieve a new phone from us."
Mind. 3 HARDWARE REPAIR and not a NEW Phone, it’s a replacement "neuwaertiges" device...
ESCALATION DECLINED

well, shouldn't start a threak without a question.
am i just unlucky or is the htc-support in europe not very good.
And, does anyone have an email adress, because the normal online support proved useless so far
i already asked in german forum but without any result
They must be idiots, sue them! I can't think of any better option atm...
Bring it back to the shop where you bought it. It's european law that the shop that sold you the product should get it fixed. Not you. So that would be my best bet.
Or you could try to fix it yourself, not that hard and not that expensive.
Don't bother. Take it back to the shop and ask for a replacement. Bring over a printout of your e-mail exchanges and proof the phone was already out for repairs multiple times. If I remember correctly, the European law is the item must be replaced if three successive repair attempts fail or the total duration exceeds 30 days, but I could be wrong on that one.
You can go back to your shop and you will get an replacement.
I'm a german user, too, and it's german law, that you only got 2 attempts to fix "a broken thing".
As your phone was tryed to be fixed three times now, you can ask for a new one.

Guten Tag,

I agree with SeToY , Lennyz1988 & airwave88
By German and EU law they have to take it back when you bring it back to the shop where you bought it.
I had a similar phone with my previous phone and when I couldn't get it fixed, I brought it back to the shop where I got it from and they exchanged it for me. At first they weren't happy about it, but in the end they did it (because they had to do it).
I would do it and see what they tell you. In the end, it just depends how long you've had it. But I can't imagine that you had it for so long.
I just got the cellphone today. most of the things went fine after many tests. Now the only problem that bothers me is the screen:
in the home screen, there is no sharpness issues, however, in most of games, for example Vector, or in a browser like Chrome, there are still some sharpness issues.
Anyone got an idea how to get rid of the problem?
Update: I noticed that, if i take a screenshot, there is no sharpness effect, so.... I believe it's the screen itself....
And in the home screen, it's actually have sharpness issues, it' just less noticeable.
Update2: I'm returning this phone, because:

Hi guys
Despite I really like my phone, I've found that it has little bright spots on the right side of the screen in a line. I've seen somebody to mention it's called display clouding, and I am wondering, if you have this problem too. I am thinking if i should send it back to elephone, cause it may get worse, or just keep it, because it's probably because of bad quality of LCD panel. I've seen many chinese phones have it.
How to check if your phone has these clouds:
set brightness on maximum
open as white screen as possible (internet browser for example)
carefully check for brighter spots
Thanks for reply!
I have this also, heard many other people have aswell. I brought mine 2nd hand on ebay so do not have the option to send it back, for the 3 months ive had the phone it has not got worse though.
Little brights spots does not sound like clouding. Can you post a photo?

Same here, but I don't care that much.
When it will get worser I simply by a new replacement panel.
As long the other parts of the phone ar working ok, everythings fine.
Don't forget it is a china budget phone. I'd never expect any wonder. And cmpared to my previous smartphones, Xperias, Motorolas and HTCs this phone makes a good job and is a good deal.
Cheers

I have taken this photo from the elephone forum, thankfully mine is not as bad as this. But gives a good indication of the problem many of us are facing.
This streak of light looks horrible indeed. No such thing on my phone. Just minor ununiformities aka clouding (not worth talking about).
Well, maybe I am just lucky, but so far I had my phone since October and no clouding in my display. How exactly does this happen? Can it get worse over time?
Mine also has this problem, unfortunately cloudings in background light placed in a line and quite visible all time, and it is getting worse. So I've bought a new display from Ali, hope it will fare better.
The only thing I have to mention is on the bottom of the screen there is some darker clouding.
Like there are some "small black clouds" coming up from the bottom of the screen :/
And since I am new here I can't post outside links to show you that.

Well, turns out you guys were right
Now my P8000 has a white line as well..pretty much like the one on the picture.
I have also this problem. I have bought my phone on aliexpress from elephonestore. this is what they say.

elephone: hi,friend,we have checked your video, it is the problem of the screen, has long white line light , but normally if you want to repair, it need to change a new screen for it, if you change it, then you need to pay for it.
me: ok, i unterstand. but i thought this can be fixed for free because of the one year warranty from elephone, since the Problem was not caused by me.
elephone: hi,friend, for this questions, we checked it exactly from elephone service center, and if change new screen, it need to pay for it, like battery or screen, they are not under the warranty, just can fix free, cannot change free.sorry friend, we had tried best to help you.

i've read on the official elephone forum, that someone has also replaced the panel. but the clouding came again after some weeks. this is not a fault of the lcd panel, its an engineering fail.

I've met with a mobile technician and he told me it's actually vapour. In a branded phone, they use a good gel beneath the amoled screen - something which is not to be found in these chinese mobile phones.
