HI all, i know these two are the same devies, but which is better? i have a MDA PRO, my girlfriend has the EXEC, she lives in London now and she just got her EXEC about 2 weeks ago, she only puts in her calender and contacts, and she is complaining that it is freezing. Anyone experienceing this too?
Perhaps she has done the O2 ext-rom install?
This would introduce a world of differences for troubleshooting!
I can say from having had a jasjar, an exec and 5 mda pro's that there is no software difference between them, only casing build quality differences.
And hasn't the exec got that silly antivirus on it people have stated to cause freezes and issues?
Hope it helps somehow,
Joe
wow
wow, how come you have had all those devices, they are all the same. Did they break and u kept buying another? rather expensive to keep buying them. She has decided to call O2, so they are replacing it for her. Thanks. I will try to walk her through removal of the antivirus and things that are not needed.
hee obisoft can you post it how to remove the antivirus
thanks 8)
Antivirus
I believe it should be under programs, i don;t have the device, iw ould have to have her ont he phone and tell her where to go and what she sees. When i get it done, i will let you know.
Jasjar was with a stupid contract through expansys which wouldn't allow data use (and a dodgy hinge), exec I still have (from the 99 pound offer from early Jan), and the MDA's from t-mob as my main contract, but kept having issues such as screens, cameras, keys, metal top sticking out and scratching me etc. I swapped out the MDA for a Vario (wizard) in the end so now I am using both.
I think the AV removal is in add/remove proggies isn't it? If not, search here cos I've seen it a few times.
Joe
There are no AV programs on the Exec, as far as I know. That was on other models?

I do confirm Anton's statement: There is no AntiVirus program on the EXEC.
The AV is on the JasJar. All their devices get this dodgy useless AV that you can uninstall right away.
Interesting thing about the Exec freezing, as I have two of them, both installed in corporate mode. One I use as my "production" device and that has got only the software I really use. I hardly soft-reset it and it is very stable, even if I've got 40+ programs installed.
The second one I use for dev, test and trials and has got loads of things installed and that one freezes all the time.
My point then is: If installed in corporate mode and not having any dodgy software, the Exec can ve very stable. The O2 Active UI that installs if you choose the default option is also terribly unstable and should be avoided.

Someone has Tom Tom 3 disks for sale for £6.50. Ive bought one and they work just fine.
s1nn0n.
hi
are they origanal ??? or copys ???
who cares if its orig or not lol.
6.50 is abt all its worth anyways.
Check the user's feedback, very unlikely to be originals...
considering u can only use your key twice it highly unlikley they are originals but hey there are ways
And whilst it's one argument using pirated software it's another one entirely to pay someone for it!
I wouldn't bother. I wasted my money on one and basically couldn't get the keygen to work. Just kept saying not valid. But then what do you expect buying copied software off a Welshman via ebay. I am going to wait until version 5 comes out and buy the original. In the meantime I will carry on using the version I D/L'd from Limewire for nothing which works really well.
Make sure you put the device code into the keygen in CAPITALS - else it won't work. I've had no complaints with TomTom 3 (downloaded 3.01, activated using keygen + upgraded to 3.07 + patched it). Have it with all "safety" cameras in the UK, and full postcode search. now when I'm lost, I can give my exact location to the poor bugger I call 4 directions!
I have been looking at PDA/Phones and decided on the XDAIIs. I had previously seen it on the O2 web site but when I checked yesterday it has all the adds and specs but when you go to buy online it says" Sorry, this handset is no longer available; You may wish to make a selection from our current range, displayed below" Does anyone know if it has been discontied or if there is a new model in the pipline.
Well, you can still get it from other people! iMate, (expansys.com), etc.

Hi,
I work for a communications company and we've just sold 10 of these to a company, all on O2.
Any probs, let me know.
CHeers,
Bret
i work for o2 and they had to discon it due to system problems
if you want anything get the i or the exec both well better than the s
Thats interesting to know. We are an O2 dealer so shouldn't someone have told us before we bought 12 of them?
How long ago was it discontinued???
Not amused about that at all.

Can you name the exact problems?

Bluetooth is one! Terrible BT hardware. Half a meter away and the cracks make the headset unusable. 22003SE and BT patches / WM5 just equally crappy
Just waiting for the Atom/Athena
In the meantime, my 2020 with 2003SE / automated Sin Merge is the best combo I tried. Thinking about moving to WM5 but the issues I had on my BA with ActiveSync/Outlook/Exchange server are making me think twice...
BTW, any news on FCS for Athena?
Hal
It's about effing time!! The Blueangel was not ready for sale. Not everyone knows how to hack a ROM and most business users need it to work out of the box which it defo didn't.
I know the problem: 02 didn't release the 1.40 ROM.
AND as I mentioned in another thread I have just broken my handsfree socket by mistake. I could fix it but I don't wanna take it apart and ruin the warranty.
I also don't wanna pay to have it fixed as I don't have ANY money. The down key is getting dodgy as well. I think I will go for a new one on insurance. Do you think they will gimme an Exec no that the 2s has been discontinued?
I only got the 2s as an insurance job for the XDA2 about 5 months ago. Do you think that they will be funny about it in the shop or will they not bother?
the s.... is crap
Hi,
I would like some advice on whether I should buy the i-Mate PDA 2k or the O2 XDA IIs? I've heard the the i-Mate site allows downloads from it, but I like the black of the IIs.
Any feedback appreciated.
Darren............
then why dont you buy xda IIs and then learn to update roms. you can flash to any rom.. o2,imate,qtek etc.
The devices are identical except in appearance, package contents, price and possibly after-sale support.
I cant comment on support, but I think the O2 one is nicest looking. My XDA IIs came with two styli, one battery, a really crappy leather case thing, and a couple of CDs. One seems standard Pocket PC fare (includes activesync, outlook 2002) but the other has a few mildly useful-sounding programs. I say sounding, since I cant work out how to install them from the disk. The disk has only one item which starts an add/remove prgrams style dialog (for programs already installed), not an actual 'Which of these included programs would you like to install' thing.
I think the Orange M2000 may come with a spare battery... but check that one.
o2 have offered me an upgrade from my IIi to the orbit. As some of you have been using the orbit for a little while is it all it's cracked up to be?
and does tomtom work ok with the orbit and the built in gps reciever?
cheers guys
Go for it you will love it if not sell it many will be after it if you don't like it.
Or you could wait for the zinc (feb 07 or so) if you can do without the gps in-built?
There is an issue with MicroSD's that possibly dosnt effect all units. See other threads.
Apart from that and if you clock it to 250MHz it works extremely well. I loved my BlueAngel but even my old stylus feels fat now. The jog dial / track ball is mega and internal GPS a breeze. The slower CPU also has the benefit of longer battery life.
I am currently looking for one for a friend on eBay and they are going for £300+ so if you dont like it can always sell and keep old phone...
ps. I use a Sandisk UltraII 2gb MicroSD which may speed up map access etc, its generally slightly slower than my 500MHz BlueAngel but no problem.
I'm a new user of the Xda Orbit, my first WM PDA after owning a tapwave zodiac and the first phone I can really type text messages on. For a PDA it's light, snappy (my last wm device was a Compaq Aero 15xx), has an excellent battery life and the GPS works a treat.
The biggest benefit is the size, though, compared to the other similarly featured Xda's in the o2 lineup this one is TINY, it dropped the jaws of my techy colleagues to the floor.
I find TomTom to be pretty fast and accurate getting a fix, route calculations are fast enough, but it is a little slow to start up initially- overclocking helps but not much. I have overclocked to 260 for PocketSNES and on other occasions but find it normally fast enough to be comfortable - quite a feat with a meer 200mhz!
I'd say go for it, I'm posting this message from Mine now! got 3 tabs open text-mode in NetFront- browsing perfection!
I have had the following:
XDA II
XDA IIs
XDA IIi
XDA Exec
And recently upgraded to the Orbit. I must say that it is the closest I have come to being 100% happy with an XDA.
Had no idea how compact this device is. No more holding a brick to your ear, this is an aesthetically pleasing device - even for non PDA'ers.
I haven't found anything that doesn't work yet. I thought the GPS would be just another gimick and there was no way it was going to work properly without an external antenna - WRONG! Stick TomTom 6.02 on it and away you go. Managed nearly seven hours of GPS directed driving before the battery got too low (have now got a car charger).
I have been waiting for a device that combined all the functionality of a good PDA and phone in a phone size package and here it is.............and they throw in a GPS and FM Radio to boot.
and one more thing if you get a decent set of headphones (either buy an adapter or do a bit of DIY soldering) it's a pretty decent MP3 player too. 2GB micro SD from Moby Memory for about £40 and painless synching with Media Player 11 and your away.
The main reason I have a PDA phone is for Terminal Server. I provide software support and it gives me the freedom to get out of the House/Office and still be able to support my Clients. I was always able to justify carrying around a house brick (EXEC) because of this. Now I don't have to this phone is great and I have to say it ..... Gorgeous.
OK now it's out - I love my Orbit!!!
Go get one - I'm pretty sure you'll be happy!
Hope this helped!
Since a couple of weeks ago, I'm also the proud owner of a HTC P3300, after owning a Qtek S100 for a year and a half.
I'm truly very happy with my new P3300.
Almost all of the features have been mentioned in other replies to your post (and I agree with them), so, I want to add that, despite having the same 64Mb of RAM as the S100, it seems to me (I'm no expert) that memory management works better (probably WM5 instead of WM2003 has something to to with it) than it did on the S100.
Also the new 2Mpixel camera works very well, the picture quality is very good. It doesn't have flash or 'macro mode' selector, but I can live without it.
The phone capabilities are good (I had a lot of problems with the S100 not relating phone numbers to names or contact photos).
Apart from a little problem I had with activesync (mentioned in another thread and already solved) it's been working perfectly.
As for the GPS softwares, I use Destinator 6 (instead of TomTom) and Navitel (with custom Madeira map) for navigation and both of them work perfectly.
Bottom line, and yes, I'll be repating myself, I'm very very happy with my P3300.
regards,
thanks for the advice guys! looks like im off to get myself one then!
How about InfraRed capability?
I currently own a Mini S and I'm really keen to upgrade to the Orbit. I've however found that Orbit seems not to have an InfraRed port. So I wouldn't be able to use it as a TV remote control. Can anyone please confirm? Thanks.

as far as i could see and i've read no it doesnt have an IR port, but surely using your phone as a tv remote isn't the be all and end all is it?

I asked HTC about making this device with consumer grade IR and 3G to make this a complete device. This is the response i got from HTC.
"Thank you for getting in contact with HTC regarding your recommendations and support. its more than likely a phone will come out with the functions you have asked. Its a case that at the moment a trade of as to be implemented due to technology reasons due to the GPS functions incorporated in to the phone, which requires other hardware to be dropped from the phone. The GPS being implemented is still fairly new concept and even through I don't have details of future phones its only a matter of time before it happens. Personally i'm waiting for a phone/GPS with slide out keyboard, which again can only be a matter of time.
Thank You for your comments"
All in all adding IR and 3G would make this one compact complete device. Use it to control your gadgets, navigate you around when driving, using it for phone and all manner of PPC functionality with virtually every connection option. One day it will be reality.
Just a snippet from HTC
Hope that helps.
Absolutely YES
Look at my signature, I've worked with nearly all HTCs from an early stage. If you can live without a keyboard, this is THE device to have at the moment.
HTC are nearing perfection!
Best device ever released (excluding the Universal for business use, still unbeatable).
I just got one - having been through the magician (which the wife now loves and uses) and the exec (which I still use as an excellent business tool) I have got to say that I am bowled over by the Orbit/3300 - WM5.0 AKU3, GPS, great screen, brilliant battery life (I get 3 days moderate usage out of mine between charges - 10 calls per day, push email on 18 hours per day, occasional GPS use!
GET ONE - U WILL NOT REGRET IT - and per other posts, if you don't like it I am sure it will get snapped up on EBAY

Hi guys, i have 2 Blueangels, in fact orange M2000's.
Both work but the first one doesnt get a signal in the UK as it was blocked when i lost it.
The second one was the insurance replacement.
Both are good condition, by memory the newer one probly has WM6 or something installed on it, i think the older one has 2003 still. Cant remember. I can check.
I have 1 cradle between them, and 3 batteries.
I always planned on just holding on to them, but i never use them. I just cant find the time to keep up with all the individual forums for all my phones. I also have the following phones that i dont really use if anyone is interested
2 Blueangels (obviously)
1 Universal
2 Tytn
1 Trinity
1 Treo 750
1 Kaiser
1 I780
I am open to offers on all of these but the more recent ones i might not sell. Anyone wants any give me a shout.
Cheers
Rob
I'm from VietNam, How to buy ?
I will take in the usa. how much for shipping and phone ? are they unlocked? ill give 300
please email me at [email protected] if intrested.
Hi guys, thanks for the replies. The I780 and the Kaiser i may be holding on to for a bit. The others i will sell if people want them for the right money.
I would also prefer to sell the phones individually as well, sorry should have made that more clear. The blueangels could go together though as i only have one charger and such like.
Shipping abroad, hmm, that is a good question. I must confess i hadnt really thought this through. I could ship abroad but i would have thought by the time the shipping was added on then it might not be worth it.
Anyone want any of these as individual items ? especially the Blueangels, i may put some posts in the other device forums about the others as well.
I will look into shipping costs.
