Hello!
I had an idea to the horrible "simlock.exe" from the blueangel:
We all know that the "simlock.exe" is write-protected in the rom. So i have searched (with Total-Commander CE) in which other files is standing "simlock.exe" too. And i found the "rilgsm.dll". But this "rilgsm.dll" is write-protected too.
Ok.
I searched now the registry and wooow: I found "rilgsm.dll" in "HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL" under the String-value called "dll". When I renamed this "dll" to "xdll" (described in much other things under BA-Hacks) the GSM-Phone isn't working.
My solution:
I copied the "rilgsm.dll" to my PC, opened it with Ultra-Edit 32 and found "\Windows\simlock.exe". I wrote now "\Window2\simlock.exe" in this "rilgsm.dll" and saved it as "rilgsm2.dll" and copied this new "rilgsm2.dll" back to the Blueangel under "\Windows". In the registry i wrote under "HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL" under "dll" now "rilgsm2.dll" so that the system now will start my modified "rilgsm2.dll". I also made a new directory called "\Window2" and copied the "AddRingtone.exe" as "simlock.exe" in this new directory "Window2".
So now when I reset the Blueangel it works with my T-Mobile-SIM-Card. So now i haven't another SIM-Card from an other provider, this i will test tomorrow.
But maybe someone can use my idea and will build an crack for this horrible "simlock.exe"
Who knows....
==========
Please let me know when you test my idea and when it works or not...
THANK YOU!!!!!

Status: Blueangel: Idea to SIMLOCK.EXE
This message is for everybody who is interesting what i've found out:
The "rilgsm.dll" is the "Radio Interface Layer". In the BlueAngel this "rilgsm.dll" calls the "simlock.exe" for the correct SIM-Card. The "simlock.exe" gives a lot of result-codes back to the "rilgsm.dll".
My solution in the moment (I hope that i'm on the right way):
On my phone I've modified the "rilgsm.dll" so that it doesn't call the simlock.exe anymore. In this moment when i put in a other sim-card as T-Mobile the phone asks me for the PIN-Code of the new sim BUT then the phone brings me an error "unknown sim-status".
So I hope now that i find out what is necesary for the BlueAngel that it will accept a sim-card from an other provider.
If aomebody has an idea pleas feel free to write me...
good job!
yeah,i think you are are on the right way,i will test your idea.
I dont know if this is any help but i found it on a rival forum (GSM-forums)
Unlock pocket pc PPC 4100 solution here ...

u just need to replace a file on windows folder file name is ( rilgsm.dll )
1. sync your PPC with your computer
2. Download the attached file in this post, rilgsm.dll

4. Double click on PPC and then on the "windows"

5. Copy rilgsm.dll into that directoy , and replace
the existing one
6. Turn off the PPC and then do a soft reset - take
the stylus and breifly poke it in the "reset" hole on

The unit should then reboot

I tried it, but it doesn't work on the BlueAngel. After you replace the dll, the wireless radio switch of the phone turns on/off the Bluetooth
As for the phone functions: it says a wireless radio needs to be attached to use them...
Could be a place to start, although from what I've learned here so far, you can't (read: shouldn't be able to) unlock the phone just by hacking the rilgsm.dll. Or am I mistaken?
Status: Blueangel: Idea to SIMLOCK.EXE
Hello!
What is the status for my idea to hack the simlock?
I can't hack correct the "rilgsm.dll" only with a hex-editor. And I haven't the tools to dump the communications between the "rilgsm.dll" and the "simlock.exe". As I say in my last post in the moment the solution is that the BlueAngels doesn't ask anymore for the unlock code, but it says "Unknown sim status" when I put in an other sim-card from an other provider.
So in the moment i'll try to get a unlocked version of the BlueAngel. I know somebody who has unlocked versions of the BlueAngel.
When I get such a device first I will make a rom backup.
Then I will compare the file "rilgsm.dll" from the unlocked device with the file from the locked device.
Maybe i must flash my locked device with the complete rom of an unlocked device, i don't know.
I can't say I'm on the right way, but I will not give up in this moment.
I think to get the unlocked device will last approximately two weeks. So wish me luck!
Greetings, Peter

htvi,
Could you provide the .uif file that was extracted by the imei-check tool for each imei/unlock code combination? with those it should be possible to figure out how the people at www.imei-check.co.uk are extracting the unlock code!
Thanks in advance,
JDH
P.S. If anyone else has such information i.e. IMEI, Unlock code and the imei-check .uif data file (as extracted from each Blue Angel) that would be of a great help!

unfortunatelly i was too stupid to save all of them...(
but i'm unlocking 2-3 phones each week

Ok, so I have downloaded both Windows mobile 2005 versions for Himalaya(probiably modified by some guy whose name I forgot), and the other official which i guess can be installed on all devices that have a bit faster processor and enough RAM.
I didnt want to install it before knowing if my m2000 is still gonna be sim-unlocked. Can you tell me htvi, or anyone else?
Thanks in advance
I don't know if it helps but, you may check this one out on http://unlock.nokiafree.org/ :

Sorry about the delayed response, I'm often away for periods of time and have only just had an opportunity to check!
Thanks for that first set; have you processed any further phones and can therefore provide the details? the more the better really! if it would be easier for you, PM me and I'll provide my e-mail.

farasimo ..u have to be banned of this forum ...first u was asking for this same problem a month ago now u have the solution and dont share it and want sell it ?? u are a shame
Well I should be ashamed and I also should be banned. But the thing is I spent on my research I had nightmares trying to unlock my 4100 I spent around 80 bucks trying to find things. Some guy even sold me a file that came from this site. Yes I know stupid. But I was trying everything. And since I did all that work to do this I thought I would try to get my money back. Is that reasonable?
Or is it not?
I give a little I take a little this site looks really good it has lots of information but it doesn’t really support the audiovox 4100 or have much support if any so this site might not be suitable to post this file in .
I guess what I am trying to say Is this site should have more on the audiovox 4100 before u can get anything like that on it. There is verry little help on the audiovox I still need help on mine and I cant get much information everything that I find is for other pda’s
The info is out there u can find it just like I did if u pay close attention. If u are not willing to work for it I think its fare to be charged a small fee. Don’t u think?
Me finding out the solution makes things cheaper or ppl. So isn’t that a little help ?

Hi PPC4100 users.
If you guys stop arguing and could help eachother like us HTC users, the PPC4100 would have made huge improvements in the hacking-development-mods-tweaks department.
Here's the requested file.
Just copy over to the Windows directory on the Pocket PC through Activesync.
Good luck!
Rayan
This is a temporary solution and phone goes locked again ..after battery is removed or a reset is done phone..
Anyone with a permanent solution?
bR
There is no permanent solution that I know of...
Just keep a copy of the DLL on a SD Memory Card and reinstall as needed (You will need Resco Backup or similar third party prg for that though, since the included File Explorer does not display dll files since they are system files)...!!!
Better yet... On Windows Mobile 2003 it's imperative to make use of a third party backup and restore program (i.e. Sprite Backup). If one backs up an unlocked 4100 and eventually restore from that backup, the phone will be automatically unlocked again!
Good luck!

Try to the Copy and Paste.
Apologies in advance for the newbie question.
I have a new SPV-M5000 locked to Orange. I think I have all of the files that I need to unlock it, and using all three hands I managed to get it into bootloader mode, but when I try to run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe I get the following error: "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe is not a valid Win32 application"
I hope that I am making some kind of really dumb (and therefore easily fixable) newbie mistake here. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I have the same issue and posted the following on Buzz's site (buzzdev.net) over a week ago but have had no replies. Hopefully someone with an answer will reply to you here?
Quote:
Having read pretty much all the forums on Universal software optimisation starting with craigiecraigie4's excellent guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=31697&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 and extensive reading on the wiki site and of course Buzz's brilliant work throughout this and other sites, I finally feel ready to take the plunge with updating my new o2 xdaExec using o2's 1.30.107 WWE ROM, Dopod's 1.11.00 Radio and my own Extended ROM creation (yet to be made as I want to do 1 bit at a time). I thought I'd put Jasjar's extended ROM (164 I think) on until I have got use to modifying the Ext ROM image as I want.
However, I need to use Buzz'y MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program as the standard installer is telling me there is a country error. Fine, so I have that downloaded BUT when I try to run it, my Windows XP system tells me that it is not a valid win32 application. Am I missing something here? Have I downloaded the wrong program or is there a problem with my XP? I don't appear to have this problem with other programs.
Hope I have included enough info for someone to tell me where I am going wrong.
HELP................
Unquote.
I have just downloaded a version from this forum (about half way down) - I haven't had a chance to test it yet but it IS different and if I run it without connecting my Universal, it does run the program but fails as no PPC device connected so it may be the better version. I will try it tomorrow but if you test it first, let me know
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54210&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25
O.K., that file seemed to do it.
I have now flashed my ROM with the latest non-Greek QTEK build, UNI_QTEK_13077_176_10900_WWE_Ship.exe, and then copied UNI_Unlock_v1.exe onto a SD card and ran it. I got a successful unlock message.
However, when I put my SIM into the phone, it booted up to a plain screen with a title bar of "Simlock" and the following message: "Network is locked, Please input unlock code".
Did I miss a step somewhere? Is it possible that the SIM itself could be locked (it's a brand new Cingular SIM) somehow?
Yes you did miss a step, in fact you missed lots of steps.
Go back and read the readme.txt file that came with the unlock program, everything is explained very clearly in there what you need to do!
Hi All!!
Would really appreciate some advice on how i go about unlocking my T-mobile MDA Compact II. Just had it back from repair, having purchased unlocked (also supplied unlocking files). Hello Sidd,
I did download the ZIP folder, But I can't unziped...
and and getting following massage "File skipped unknown Compression method"
Please help me out....
Thanks
I did have Zipped this file on WinZip 10, download the attached file, now I have zipped it on a normal compression

Sidd
not working
i tried this so many times. every time i tapped on the enablerapi.cab file, my mda compact just removes it. what am i doing wrong?
Obviously it is gonna dissappear after the installation. Please follow the steps 1 by 1.
Suggestion 01
1 - Connect your device with ur PC and make sure activeSync recognise it.
2 - Unzip lokiwiz.zip to somewhere in your computer
3 - Copy EnableRapi.cab to your Wizard
4 - Execute the EnableRapi.cab in your phone. Wait for it to finish
5 - Execute lokiwiz.bat and follow the instructions on your screen...
Suggestion 02
For those of you having problems with lockiwiz 3a not unlocking your phone, well i was having the same problem, but not for long because i discoverd what i was doing wrong.
when you download lokiwiz 3a you have 2 things, lockiwiz and a folder called utils, now in the folder utils you will find a file called enablerapi its about 70kb in size, copy this to your MDA vario in the my documents folder, once there run it by tapping on it in my documents on your MDA saying Ok to everything, once youve done that, then and only then try running the lockiwiz application on your main pc making sure your connected via ActiveSync and look for the SIM unlock code in the black command promt box and jot this number down, then put SIM card in thats different from the one you use and switch on, when asked for the unlock code just type in the number you have written down earlier.
GoodLuck
Sidd
hi sidd,

Well I have downloaded the whole solution from this same forum and applied on my sister's Mda and it did work.
Happy New Year to you all as well

QTek s110 is a Magician and NOT a Charmer. Try the Magician section and wiki. You are lucky that you are not flashing your phone or else you may have got yourself an expensive brick.
This works a treat
Thanks loads for this walkthrough m8 its flawless. Great work m8.
It works with IPL 3.x!

Hi. I am relatively new with the PDA scene and as much as I would have loved to read an answer to my question from some other thread instead of starting a new one, I could not do it cos there are none. At least in "idiot's guide" style.
To the question that is stated in the title. As much as I have understood, there are (at least) three storage areas on a device (mine being Vodafone v1520) - the ROM, the EXT ROM and the files that we see on under "My Device" in Explorer. Some of the files have been marked as "ROM" if to look at the properties and those cannot be deleted (at least I haven't found any way) but they can be overwritten (with Resco or smth). The point of my question is that when I overwrite the WELCOME.GIF file (marked as ROM file, it's VF splash screen) it does overwrite it nicely (confirmed) but when I hard reset, it's back. Although I don't understand also why after overwriting I still see the VF logo instead of my own file, that is a separate issue.
The reason I am asking this is that nobody in this forum has been able to answer me how to unlock the EXTROM part on that ASUS P550 that I have. So I thought maybe if I change the STARTER.EXE or GENERALINSTALLER.EXE to something pointless, the EXTROM part won't be installed.
Although I suspect the VF logo is displayed from EXTROM part while booting, cos there is nowhere else that same file in normal storage.
Summary:
1) Does changing files marked as "ROM" really change ROM files or is it until the next hard reset and why?
2) Does anyone know how to unlock and unhide the EXTROM part on ASUS P550?
3) Does anyone know where the VF splash screen comes from while booting?
If anyone has ANY information on these issues, PLEASE enlighten me. It seems that there are a lot of senior members who have the knowledge but are quite unwilling to share it. I don't know why but it seriously sucks that they don't reply to threads or PM. I thought this forum was for helping each other, not giggling behind the screen: "I know something You don't". At least that is the impression that I have recently gained when trying to contact people that have the knowledge.
Thanks.
aiiro
The answer to your "stupid" question - "are ROM files REALLY ROM files" - is NO.
The question is not stupid and the files are really not the files.
Actually you have only the information about the files in ROM - the name, the size and other attributes. That's it.
You are not really overwritting anything when you copy the different file with the same name to ROM.
If you somehow dump the ROM from your device - you'll get real files.
Welcome Gif can permanently be changed only in dump.
Unlocking EXTROM .... I am not sure that I got what you mean. And why do you want to do that. But do the following: with Resco Registry go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC2\FATFS
Change MountHidden value from 1 to 0
You will be able to see the EXTROM content.
VF splash screen definitely comes from Windows folder of your device while booting - it's a part of the ROM.
OK, thanks for a quite thorough reply, but I still don't get it then - why does Resco (or similar prog) ask to overwrite the file? OR, if it doesn't overwrite it, how do I see the new file in Windows folder and the prog looking for splash screen file does not?
The EXTROM fascinates me because after hard reset the device is installing some "Auto Installation packages" and as far as I have found out those come from the EXTROM. I suspected that the WELCOME.GIF came from there too but now I am not sure. Might have to dump the ROM somehow and look into it but there are not many people with P550 and like I said those who have, don't have the willingness to help with that.
BTW, thanks also for the tip about the registry, but I have tried all the registry tweaks that I have found (including the abovementioned) but none of the works...
Thanks again and looking forward to Your (or anyone else's) comments.

Resco has been done like you have!
Try to do the following: copy your own Welcome.gif to Windows folder. You will be prompted to overwrite. Say yes. Then simply delete that file. It will not disappear - the old version of file will become visible again. ROM is not a number of files - it is one file which contains a copy of the data that later will be written (flashing process) straight to a read-only memory chip.
(Pay attention on my words "read-only")
Imagine yourself a wall painted with a hell of 100 dollar bills. You can see them. But you cannot take one of them. You can even glue you own bill upon the drawn one. It will work. But when you wash the wall (hard-reset) - your real paper bill will be washed down and the old painted one will appear (sorry for metaphor)

Nothing works probably cause the registry is write-protected. Unlock your registry by changing the following:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 1
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 40
But! You would do it with the digitally signed regedit. For example - one is attached. Unzip it to your device, run it, change the security policy settings, reboot. Then try to tweak your Asus again.
The attached regedit has OEM Sign 2005 - hopefully it will work for you.
Thank You for a thorough explanation and especially for the metaphore - it was very helpful.
But about the registry - wow... I mean I haven't even heard of unlocking registry...
As usually, answers are generating new questions. The ones I have now are:
1) How come some of the registry tweaks made with Resco still work even now - like showing the clock instead of battery (changing the TBOpt key) etc and the values are still there after soft reset?
2) Resco is also digitally signed, isn't it?
3) If I use this app, will hard reset still create a clean registry? (The answer to this probably is "yes" but I still ask just to be sure).
4) Can I seriously f**k up something with this method?
Thanks in advance.

3) If I use this app, will hard reset still create a clean registry? (The answer to this probably is "yes" but I still ask just to be sure).
4) Can I seriously f**k up something with this method?

Read your PM - sure I don't have any subscriptions, but it's OK (I mean PM) - it works.
So:
1. The point is that not the whole registry is write protected - only several "important" parts mostly in HKLM. Normally - if you change someting in HKCU - it will work even with the protected registry. The vendor only protects the keys and values that can cause some "critical" system changes.
2. If to tell the truth - I know that Resco has digital signature - but anyway the permission level of it does not allow you to modify the protected keys. So that's why I offered you to use Regedit, signed with the customizers.
3. For sure - after HardReset you will return to factory defaults completely - it means you registry will again become clean and write-protected.
4. It depends upon what you mean writing "seriously". The worst thing - to damage the bootloader, but you will never do that modifying the registry. So - feel free to do whatever you want - you will always be able to return to factory defaults.
OK, thank You very much for the explanation! I have bookmarked like 200 pages related to PDAs, which means that if even only every 10th page gets bookmarked, I have gone through thousands of pages in 4 months and I haven't stumbled on this information before. So everything You have enlightened me about here is most useful, thanks again!
I hope I will not push it but since You have been so helpful and seem to know stuff, I am risking asking some more questions. First of all, would You happen to know a good "idiot's guide to flashing ROM"? I have read those on the wiki but as they are for HTC devices and asus mobile club russia does not have any basic explanation in English, it's pretty hard to catch the idea. I know that much that there is a PC involved with some kind of programs etc, but that's about it. I don't even know what the hell is a bootloader. There also isn't any good PDA architecture drawings lying around in the net
The second question is also related to hardware. I have the Vodafone v1520 as mentioned above and it has a small annoyance - the earpiece volume adjustment during call does not work. The slider moves and I hear the clicks getting louder or quieter but the volume level of the caller voice does not change. I took it to a repair shop and they told me that it's a faulty hardware but I know that there are people with exactly the same problem in this forum and I find it hard to believe that they installed some kind of faulty earpiece on all these devices. Or is that possible? What do You think?
Thanks.

Sorry dude but both your last questions are about the specific device - your Vodafone. To answer - I should buy Asus P550 and get an experience first. It's only 700 bucks in my country but I am not sure that I really wanna have it. My current device (pretty old now) is P525 and the next one will probably be Diamond or something better and more expensive.
Second thing - I am not IT professional - I am just a user. OK, I always use my own (cooked) ROMs but it does not mean that I can give the answers to all your questions!
OK, I knew I was pushing it a little bit and in no way did I mean that You should make some kind of spendings. I just thought maybe You had any ideas and maybe ASUS devices are similar enough that they are compatible ROM-wise with each other or something like that.
Anyway, thanks for those thorough replies - You have been most helpful! As soon as I will have some time I will try the registry things out.
Thanks again and good luck!

Modified registry values don't survive reboot?
Try switching the device off before reboot.
The registry is not flushed to disk at every write.
And search the net for
flushing registry pocketpc

So if you reset the handheld without putting it into suspend mode before, you risk losing configuration data (registry settings)?
This paquet is a software used by Movistar Spain to lock the phone. If someone want try somting with this info. Here are zip file with : Ril.dll,Phone.dll,SimLock.exe,SimUnlock.exe and some more info.
ican't run it on my japanese t01a .would you please tell how to use it ?
You cant run SimLock and SimUnlock in your phone you haved inside. You can replace them with total comander. But dont touch never ril.dll dont replace with this one. I put here this if someone want help me to crack them.
I litle bit dificult because I never try to crack brograms in 16 bit, 32 is easy. Problem is coming for try to find debuger for 16 bit who work properly.
Step by step but I see one day we go to have a crack for all phone.
Sory man I cudunt help you.
Rest assured it's not likely to be sufficient to fiddle with simlock related .exe files and RIL driver to permanently unlock a TG01.
ril.dll is a module in TG01 ROMs, not a file, so you can't use extracted file on another device, not even on the same device. And more importantly you don't need to, because it's just a proxy to the actual vendor specific RIL driver. Apart from minor differencies, ril.dll is going to be the same in majority of TG01 ROMs.

Hy
It's not working.I try with an orange romania unlocked one to copy to another orange romania locked and didn't work.
I used a cab file to disable security, and then I was able to copy the files to windows but it does not work. (I am with orange UK). Use the file attached to disable security to allow total commander to overwrite files.
Free method to unlock yet?
Hi all,
I was wondeirng if there is a free method to unlock Toshiba TG01. How do they unlock it using the IMEI number only?
