Help! - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi,
I need some help before I buy an XDA IIs.
I need to know the following things:
1. What is the keyboard like to type on?
2. What are the biggest and most annoying glitches?
3. Does it support a 2GB SD card?
Many Thanks,
Richard

the keyboard is naff, i used it the first day and not used it since. The letters are to small and you have to press quite hard on the letters
i have no major issues with the blue angle. please note that this is my first pda so i don’t have anything to compare it with

thnx for your reply.
I also want to know about when you receive an sms.
Does the screen come on? and is the screen 'pressable' so it clicks around the menus in your pocket? or is there some way to stop this :?:
Cheers
Rich

The BA is a nice toy if you have the cash.
On the down side is the hardware, the Keyboard is crap IMHO. It gets loose and falls down by itself.
The Sound quality is bad, Tinny, scratchy, you can up the radio do a lot of other things but it still crap.
Battery life is poor if you are on wifi for a long time.
The os has its own issues.
So the short of it all is that I love the bugger, it has past many an hour of frustration, I have turned it into a brik, dented it and now even the stylist wont stay in it place.
Would i go back to a phone just as it works? no way to many things to find out and learn about.
So is it the choice for you, that q I cant answer but if you do get a HTC device this is the site to be on.

MDAIII Questions

I have recently aquired my own MDAIII from T-Mobile.
And i must say that i am very impressed with it.
I do however have a few questions about it, and i hope someone here can answer them.
- How do i turn that annoying standy lamp off *blink* *blink*
- Whats the maximum size of the memory card? (and whats the best to get?)
- How do i lock the screen? (when playing an mp3 in mediaplayer and i press standby, it literaly goes to standby and pauzes the programs. and if i just slip in into its cover all kinds of buttons gets pressen and nasty things start happening ;-) )
And finaly:
I am looking for a good Gameboy Advanced emulator, the one i am curently using (Morphgear) is realy realy slow and id rather not overclock untill i realy _realy_ have to
Also, it is in anyway possible to use this device as an FM receiver? (mp3s are fine, but i like to listen to radio sometimes to)
fm card
There is few FM CF cards out there, I not sure if they made that in a SD card format. But you can check out the Mobileplanet store and see what they have.
Hi,
I dont think you can turn the light off
I've got a 1GIG SDcard working fine in mine
I havn't found a way to play MP3's etc and switch the phone off.
PS, Is the keyboard slide mechanism rigid on your MDA 3 and also is there a visible gap between the screen and keyboard when you look at the phone from the side and botttom ? as the this is the case with my XDA 2s and I think it may be a fault.
a response would be appreciated.
My MDAIII has tight keyboard and no gap. I think it's just luck whether or not you get a tight one.
No no... Iv been brought up to always inspect before hand. No good having a loose one for the rest of your life.

To 3G or not to 3G

I am a happy old Dash user. Besides sitting on my screen and cracking it today, I would either be playing Bomberman2 on pNES, or checking my GMail acct and determining what to wear tomorrow with AccuWeather statements. Or, I could just be on opera watching updates of Monday night football.
So, screen cracked, no Dash-age for me tonight. I do have a Treo 680 that I'll pop my SIM in once I get home, and it's decision making time.
To get the New Dash 3G or get a screen replaced in ol' faithful.
Now that the Dash 3G has been out for a little while now, what are some of you guys' opinions on it? Worth the money? Wait for a better HTC model? Please help, I'm Dashless and need a something to fill this void?!
---Oh, and much thanks to all the programmers that cooked all this neat stuff up, I envy you guys, in a good way!
=)
For me, the deal breakers with the dash 3g are:
1) No mini USB connector at the bottom of the phone, so can't easily place in a docking station to charge - you need to additionally connect a flimpsy wire to the side of the dash 3g.
2) No d-pad - just a trackball. So no way to be precise and tap the "down" key twice to move the selection precisely two items down - you will often undershoot or overshoot your selection using a trackball. Also impossible to "hold" a direction button down with a trackball as is needed to play games like guitar hero, ect.
If it wasn't for the above two issues, I would have purchased a Dash 3G. Verizon in the states has the HTC "Snap" that doesn't have the above flaws, but verizon is CDMA and not as hackable or has as many roms available for it as the dash does.
They do make a docking station for the 3G. I saw one on eBay. It has a wire that come up from the back and hooks in the side. Can sync and charge like the Dash does. The trackball sensitivity can be adjusted. While it is not nearly as precise as the multi directional button on the Dash, it is useful. I was on the fence for a while and finally said eff it and bought one. Immediately upgraded to Ookba's ROM and was set. Nice to not have to overclock to get it to perform. It just does it. I love the old Dash. Still have it. Probably always will. Great phone. But the new one is badass. And with the ROMS they are cooking it is even cooler. Like I said if those are your reasons for not getting one, you can get used to them. Side usb is ok. A lot tighter fit than the Dash and they make a base charger. And trackball takes about a week to get used to and mess with the settings to get it to your liking. And yes you will overshoot your target a few times. But more memory, faster processor. Keyboard does take some getting used to. It just feels different. Bigger buttons are NOT always easier to hit. And I have huge thumbs. That was the biggest adjustment for me. Now I have to use predictive text to help. No space between the buttons. But T-Mo offers a 14 day buyers remorse deal. If you buy it and hate it you can take it back as long as you don't trash it. 30 days if you buy it without a contract. With a contract you HAVE to have the $24.99/month data plan for 2 years even if you don't use it. I bought mine out right. I use wi-fi almost everywhere I go so....hope that helps anyone thinking about getting a 3G. I love mine but am still nostalgic for my Dash. Had it for almost 4 years.

Regarding the rom development you can find Ookba's WM6.5 cooked rom for the CDMA version of the Maple (aka HTC Snap) which you can test and see if you can fullfil your expectations http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563761;)
I don't consider myself to be especially handy, but I did a screen replacement. There were a couple of different video guides on Youtube that walked through the procedure in great detail, and the kits including the screen and tools are widely available on eBay. I guess a great deal depends on your gadget-envy, but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to fix the Dash anyway-- sell it if nothing else. I think I spent less than $20 on the repair kit.
How do get a new screen cover for the tmobile dash 3g. not the lcd but the cover.

[Q] Screen Unlocking Problem.

Hello all! I have a problem with my TP2’s unlocking “feature”. I am very aware of the magnetic leather case issue, I found that out when I attempted to purchase a case and my screen went nutty. This has been a annoying more than anything. The phone is only 3 months old. I have tried a full Hard Reset, and I’m currently running on of MR X’s rom, so I don’t believe it’s a software issue. There is nothing magnetic around me when it happens. I just dial people randomly now. I can see theres a registry edit, but I really want to keep the original function of unlocking with opening the keyboard, and pulling the stylus out. I’m thinking that I’ll have to do the registry edit or end up with a locker app, like throttle locker. But I always check here 1st, for suggestions. Thanks for any info or help you can give. P.S. This was a brand new replacement phone, and is about 3 months old. It has only been doing this for a few weeks now, but it started way before any "tweaking".
Ok, I 1/2 figured it out. If I Touch the screen the wrong way, and it turns the smallest amount clockwise, I can hear a "click" and the screen lights up, and unlocks, as if i opened the phone. My guess is that my screen is wicked loose. But my question is, is it a switch that activates the unlock? I was under the impression, that both the stylus, and the screen slide work off of magnets, and thats what tells it to unlock. But the clicking noise sure does sound like a switch. Thanks Again!
Ok, last time. Its not a switch which knew, but was hoping for. Switches can be easier. As far as the unlocking problem, its amazing how sensitive it is, it seems if i blew on it hard enough it'll unlock. I did the reg edit, which didnt disable my "stylus to wake", which is great, so I'm a happy camper. Someday i'll take it apart. lol

Battery and optic sensor question

Hello! I decided that it's time to once more "freshen up" my 3,5 year old HTC Desire. I installed a stock ROM and I'm using Link2SD to deal with the memory problems, so that is that. But 2 main things that concern me right now, and I would like to hear someone's opinion:
(Warning: questions may sound completely stupid)
1. After 3.5 years battery life is starting to bother me. Is it worth it to buy a new one? Aren't all batteries for Desire old by now? Should I buy an original or not(let's say the capacity is the same)?
2. This is the stupidest part of my question. Whenever it's sunny outside and I try to use my phone, the optic sensor is going nuts. Sometimes it's impossible to wright a message because it constantly is trying to scroll up. Is it possible to disable the optic sensor or maybe fix it?
Really want to hear some thoughts on this. Thanks!

1. When you buy a battery, you buy a new one, not used. So, the answer to your question is buy a new battery
2. Optic sensor doesn't have anything to do with scrolling, it only adjusts screen brightness. My guess is your digitizer is going to die soon.
Does your phone heat up more than normal? Because, if it does, your motherboard could be faulty

I'm sorry, by optic sensor I meant the optic trackball (added pic in attachment).

[Q] keyboard issue..

Im brand new to HTC products im usually the galaxy guy and the ATT rep convinced me that the ONE M8 would be the way to go today since my S4 got stolen last night ... however i am generally pleased with the device i was wondering if anyone else has issues with the keyboard in portrait orientation. Long story short the HIGHLY used keys on the left side of my keyboard will not recognize my input using my left thumb... i have to literally take my right thumb across the device to input the E, R, T, and sometimes even S keys... is this something I am doing wrong or does anyone else have issues like this ( seems like its almost not sensitive enough to read the input or something i can hit it 100 times with my left thumb and nothing but hit it once with my right and it takes it )... When i turn to landscape to type it seems to do alright but my habits usually keep me in portrait so this is a real irritant if you can imagine. Any thoughts at all or anyone else have a fix for this? Considering returning to the store tomorrow to explain my grievance. Side note... I have tried different keyboards from the play store with the same issue... :crying:
Sounds like a defective left thumb.

Dinstall screen touch test from play, it will show every touch point on you phone. Seems like you have a defective digitizer.

Someone told me that the M8 has a very active screen all the way to the edges... i think ive figured out that its my fat hands that are rolling onto the screen somewhere while trying to type text messages causing the device not to recognize my input. The way i hold the device i guess is the issue because even during calibration it gave me issues with the left sided letters.... so i guess i have to either find a new way to hold the device or get some kind of case to accommodate my fat hands and tight grip on the device .... any tips or tricks on how to hold these things when texting to keep my hands off the screen? I tend to hold the device more in my palms than fingers for safety im a bit clumsy and i think thats the issue.
