XDA2i Bluetooth voice dialing problem - General Accessories

Hi,
Newbie, just purchased an XDA2i with an O2 'blue' headset and I need some help in the voice dial area.
Turns out they are not compatible for one click voice dialing. Installed fonix VoiceDial 2.0 off the O2 installation CD but it will not activate from the Blue Headset Call button. In the XDA settings you can assign hardware buttons from the XDAii to start the voice dial feature but not from the headset pickup / make call button.
Any ideas if this can be resolved or if there is another voice dial software that can be activated to make a call by clicking the O2 blue headset? And/or another headset that works so I don't have to keep getting this thing out of my bag to make a call? - Would have thought this would have been a basic requirment of a phone/pda this size?
Cheers,
R

Same problem with Jabra BT250v
I have the same problem with my XDA IIi and Jabra BT250v headset. O2 Customer services are absolutely no help, they say "there is no headset available at the moment that will function properly with xda IIi". O2 Shops say all headsets will work but you need to buy one and then try", what does one believe and go to get help...........?

These PDA's dont support this functions, irrespective of where you buy it from. orange, voda, o2, t-mobile - they just can't do bluetooth voicedial. Naff but true.

Yes, strange but true, it seems the reason is that the xda series are pda's with phone capability, not phone with pda capability so they thought they would leave out that particular feature. Probably something to do with marketing but I cant see the logic of it for the life of me.

I have a O2 mini, and Sony BT Headset. I also have a disability and this 'non-feature' is more than just an 'annoyance' for me.
Calling out I can manage on the pda and the headset turns on automatically - though voice dial would be handy, it's the answering that I have trouble with.
Can you tell me, is the 'bit' that switches a incoming call to a BT headset part of the BT in MSWindows 2003se PPC software or part of the O2 firmware or part of hardware?
What does the answering? Could a utility be written that detects an incoming call and switch answer to a BT headset?
David

There are two known pocket pc phones that have bluetooth voice dialling; the Motorola MPX and the Eten M500. So its not a limitation of the OS, just short-sightedness of some app developers

BT headset voice dailing

I am getting a little worried here.
It is advertised everywhere that the xda IIs has voice dial, which to me reffers to me talking into a bt headset and it calls that contact.
If this is not possible, can fonix ispeak sort it?
The device comes with fonix voicedial software, but it does not work through the headset. I have my MDAIII mounted on the windscreen in the car and manage to use voicedial to make calls with over 90% accuracy and then talk through my jabra bt headset.
Which unit do you have PDA2K or IIs? I haven't seen any postings yet comparing the two devices, O2 may have addressed some BT issues before launching the IIs.
I won't have one (IIs, already have PDA2K) till next week.
getting the 2's next week. new officail date is the 15th nov. so should recieve it on the 16th
So what does it take to make this work? is it impossible. Can we not do something?
it take it that this product is using the mic hardware and not bluetooth mic?

Anyone come acrross this before: (scroll down to Kai’s Bluetooth Headset Patch 2004 )
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/_archives/sep04/bluetooth.asp
could something simular be done on the xda's
Or is this something where only ever going to get to use with bluetooth v2?

Its good to see progress being made but the main problem still is a hard ware based. The mic and speaker in phone hardware need to be bridged with the ppc... which gets me thinking.....as we can speak into ppc and listen to the caller then once we BT the call it was bridge/switch it.... dont understand why something so simple and a much required feature is missing :?
Hi,
I have installed the trial version of MS command and it seems to be doing the trick... I have a qtek 9090 and I did not see any installed software for voice dialing... Is it only on PDA2K?
Thanks.

MS Command doesn't support bluetooth headsets either.
From the MS blurb: "Bluetooth Headset Support - Voice Command does not support using a Bluetooth headset to initiate a voice command but you can use a Bluetooth headset during the phone conversation."
So its the same as fonix. You have to speak the dialling command into the device, and it only transfers to the bluetooth headset when the device starts dialling out. If you can put up with that, fonix works pretty well.
JD
Well as much as I was looking forward to getting a PDA2K or SX-66, I feel that this is a MAJOR drawback that has me thinking twice. I read that your cannot initiate VOICE calls using a BlueTooth headset no matter what software you are running. Is this accurate?
If so, then why can the Audiovox SMT5600 do it by the way of voice tags?
Thanks,
Frank
Previous ms smartphones and pocket pc phones have not supported the bluetooth handsfree profile which would allow voice dialling. Since the new devices now support it its up to the software developers to implement it in their software. For example, using my SE HBH-200 on my imate PDA2K i can initiate voice dialling on the headset but on the imate there is nothing to interface with. If the Audiovox can do it there is no reason why a more powerful pocket pc cant do it as well

XDAIIi, Bluetooth Headset and GPS

Hi
I'm looking at purchasing an XDA IIi from O2, both to use as a PDA, phone and for SatNav. It's likely that I'll go with TomTom and I already have a Bluetooth GPS receiver.
I've already got an O2 blue headset that works with my SonyEricsson T610 and I'll also be wanting to use that whilst in the car.
I have some questions that I hope some of you might be able to answer...
Is it possible to use both a bluetooth headset and bluetooth GPS at the same time?
Does the XDA IIi support the O2 blue as the SE T610 does, i.e. I press the button and say the contact I want to call and then the phone (home, mobile etc).?
Thanks for any help!

Hi
I have the Jabra BT 200 headset and the Leadtek 9537 GPS unit. They both work fine at the same time on my Xda IIi.
I was checking the GPS using Pocket Streets (have not re-installed Tom Tom yet but I do not envisage a problem)
The BT setup seems better on the IIi, there wasn't any messing around with the COM port settings like there was with the Xda II.
If you mean the fonix VoiceDial software that comes with it, then yes, it does work that way.
On the whole, I am pleased with the IIi (I had the II for a year), the camera is flakey but I can live with that.
MarkySan...
Thanks for that... Looks like it'll do what I'm after
I might then have to become a regular on these forums!
Cheers
GWG
Be warned, if you mean the o2 CLIP blue headset (made by iTech), I also have it and have been unable to get it working. (Why oh why can I not have the old stack from the xda2 as that worked perfectly with headset profile)
At one point I was briefly able to get it installed as a handsfree device but it then stopped working. Before I got rid of my xda2 I tried re-pairing the devices and it worked great first time. Other BT headsets I had access to worked fine.
Does anyone else have this headset and an xda2i? I've posted about this before but got absolutely no feedback whatsoever. Could anyone tell me if they're using a clip style headset (not the ones that hook round your ear) with the 2i...how much it cost and what make etc. I may have to bite the bullet, sell the o2 headset and buy another one.
Cheers

2 BT devices simultaneously on XDA II
This is an interesting problem. I've got an XDA II, a leadtek BT gps receiver and a nokia handsfree BT carkit, plus Tom Tom.
I haven't got them all working at once yet and have been told there is a problem getting the handsfree to work anyway.
This was from a so called reputable high st mobile phone chain (who also said that only one BT device could be connected at once).
Any help or advice appreciated....
David
Well, I got my XDA IIi and very nice it is too.. this is my first foray into the world of PDA so I've nothing to compare too, so I'm very pleased
I've twinned it with my O2 blue headset and it works fine.
Also got TomTom navigator and a bluetooth GPS (although you still need a cable for power across the dashboard! Doh!).
They both work together, although there does seem to be some strangeness when they're both on:
1. The GPS sometimes drifts off... although this is based on a 15 minute drive into Town only
2. When on a call, the GPS signal seems to go completely and TomTom doesn't know where I am!
I do have a question about WiFi and MMS if anyone could help...
I have a WLAN at home, whihc the XDA IIi seems to connect to fine. However, when I am connected to it, I cannot send or receive MMS messages.. I'm sure it's something to do with this 'Internet' or 'Work' stuff, but this is all rather confusing. Has anyone written an idiots guide to all these strange settings?
Thanks!
ive used it all week on calls and even had the voice through my jabra 250 gps stayed on all the time it was fine the only problem i had was i couldnt get gprs without a softreset
Alix, are you saying you got the Tom Tom voice directions through the Jabra?
If so, I'm off to get the i!
Firstly is this forum ONLY for developers?
Because you will quickly discover that I am not a developer but a confused user and I was hoping that I could get some advice here?
Anyway I have a Bluetooth headset and was considering getting TomTomGo but also wondered if the headset and a BT GPSr would work together.
Also does anyone know if we will ever get voice dialling working on MobilePPC? I had a brief discussion with someone at Fonix who said that "Microsoft does not expose the necessary functions to third party software developers like Fonix".
Actually, now I've been using it for a while, it seems the reason Tom Tom drifted was because of a loss of signal.
Using the BT headset and Tom Tom with the BT GPS together is fine.
What is annoying though is the fact that the Phone App pops up in front of Tom Tom and doesn't go away when the call is complete.
Also, when touching the button on the headset to open the connection with the phone, it doesn't automatically start the Voice dial, you still have to reach across and fumble about looking for the button on the side. Has anyone got any ideas if it's possible?
That being said, the voice dial works OK.. not brilliant, and the voice that tells me what it thinks I've said is rather disappointing.. I want to keep telling it to 'Please speak more clearly' !
And I too can hear the Tom Tom voice prompts through the BT headset when the conection is open, although I prefer not to.
See my note re what the Fonix guy said above.

You can ONLY connect to MMS via the O2 GPRS network. Since your WIFI is outside their network, and is somebody elses, they won't let you login to their servers to send. All the carriers work this way - it's how they charge!
Hi,
I have a XDAIIi, Nokia car kit and TomTom 3 bluetooth. I have been trying to connect my phone to the car kit using bluetooth. Unfortunately it will only connect for phone calls. Does anyone knows how to permanently connect the phone using a different profile, so that I can listen to music and voice instruction of my TomTom using the car audio system? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

All I can help you with is that using my Jabra I press the call end button on the headset and the sound for my Tom Tom and MP3s comes through the headset.
Hope this helps.
Thanks mindracing. Do you know what services/profile your jabra return when you enquire it?
KR,

It shows up as Hands Free connection to Jabra 250.
Status just shows Jabra 250/Audio Gateway.
If you know where else to look just ask.
Thanks mindracing. yesterday I tried every possible combination but it seems I cannot stream my music and Tomtom instruction to the car kit.
Thanks anyway.

just a note on this. I have had a jabra bt205 working with a QStarz BT-800 gps, it works ok BUT when i changed from the jabra to a stereo headset it workd ok too but only on the crap audio quality. I installed the cab file for A2DP support. now i have really good audio but as soon as i try to connect the gps the audio goes all choppy and eventualy cuts out.
It is of my limited opinion that you cant run A2DP and a bluetooth GPS because of the bandwidth (data transfer) available. Ive yet to see if i can get tomtom running with the wired gps and A2DP quality headset.
Think ill be goin back to wired headset for on the bike so i can have music, tomtom and calls... just need to find someone on here who has got a voice dial prog to run from the green call button on the wired headset.
GPS and BT Headset on XDA II

I use the MS BT stack with my Blue Ant BT earpiece and the Broadcom BT stack with a BTGPS74R receiver (aka Holox BT-321). They both work well individually, but not together. Another post made the point about com port issues ... well yes, I use the Broadcom BT Manager for this purpose, but the XDA II does not pair with the Blue Ant, even with TomTom 6 OFF. It shows up but is not really paired correctly.
Perhaps there is a simple answer ... if so, I am sure someone will advise me.

HTC P3300 and PARROT CK-3100

I use the Bluetooth connection between the HTC and the Parrot and it works just fine in my car…. As far as the phone hand-free functions are concerned.
When I installed TomTom (ver. 6) on the HTC I assumed that the voice of the navigator would also come out through the car speakers connected to the Parrot.
This is not happening! The phone conversations are going through the Parrot and INDEPENDENTLY the TomTom voice comes out of the HTC!
This creates quite a mess when I am driving (while TomTom navigates) and I get a phone call: TomTom keeps on talking over the phone conversation and most of the HTC screen is covered by the “incoming phone call” notification!
Moreover the ringtone of the HTC does not seem to work when connected to the Parrot and only a very feeble chime is there to signal an incoming call.
Does anyone have a solution to fix this inconvenient situation?
Thanks in advance for the insight!
I've got the same setup as you and have the TomTom voices coming out of the phone which has been the same with my previous phones such as the SPV C550 and he HTC wizard. I think it's down to the bluetooth stack implementation on the Windows Mobile phone. My mobile mutes TomTom when I am in a call and I get a flashing mute icon shown on the TomTom screen.
One thing to try is the Jetware bluetooth extension http://www.jetwaremobile.com/ which is designed to improve compatability with the Parrot systems. It will certainly help you get the correct ringtones through the speakers, though I'm not sure if it will help with TomTom voices.

Bluetooth issues with the HTC TYTN II

I recently purchased an AT&T Tilt (TYTN II phone) with Windows 6.1 Dutty Series... since my motorola KRZR took a dump on me....Quite an upgrade...I am trying to use the Motorola H700 Headset from my KRZR on to my HTC, I can get the headset located in the device menu but I cant get the HTC to pair up with the headset on a continual basis. I am also having an issue connecting to a Bluetooth GPS Antenna. I can locate it it just the same as the headset but it wont pair to the HTC nor ask an authorization code.
Is this a bluetooth glitch? Can I somehow reload the driver for the bluetooth? Perhaps I am doing something wrong but I never had a problem linking bluetooth devices before.....
On a separate note....I tried doing an activesync via bluetooth on my Dell Laptop and it again can be located on both ends but I can get any services to work on either side...
Help?
I have just received a new HTC TyTN II on Orange that has the same problem. My old one (windows mobile 6.0) had no problem with my Motorola H12, but the new one (Windows Mobile 6.1) can't keep the pairing, and I have to turn Bluetooth on an off to get the connection. Always have to enter the passcode.
Version data is:
CE OS 5.2.19212 (Build 19212.1.0.3)
Processor: MSM7200-400MHz
ROM version 1.65.16.25
G 25.83.40.02H
D 3.28.00.00
Any help /advice much appreciated!
O.
Pyper,
i don't know how it is on the H700, but on the BlueAnt Z9, you have to hold down the power switch until the LED on the headset blinks red very rapidly, when it does this, the headset is in pairing mode. then you can pair the phone with the headset. try something like this with the H700. if you can, find out how to get the H700 into pairing mode before you try to pair it up.
hope that helps!

I've been having issues with my HTC TyTNII with the official 6.1 ROM and the Jabra BT500V headset. The pairing is automatic in WM6.1. The bluetooth causes the phone to be sluggish and causes call drops if the call's picked up within 3 rings or the call's picked up before it rings on the phone (Yes, Jabra rings first before the phone does). I've escalated this issue to HTC SEA Support and they've advised me to disable Bluetooth and test which I did for the past 3 months :|
I have 3 Jabra headsets (BT250, BT500, BT500V) and all are having the same issue with this ROM. I'm quite skeptical to buy another brand just for testing purposes. Do anyone else face the same issue? HTC SEA has fixes available specific for Jabra / Samsung headsets on Touch Cruise but strangely not on TyTN II
Finds BlueAnt S3 but won't pair
My BlueAnt ST3 pairs fast with a Motorola Razr V3xx but the HTC with WM6 Professional, finds the ST3, prompts for the password (0000) but always fails. On the Razr, I touched the enter key but on the HTC it only beeps. I tried the O.K. key too. The message I am getting after touching "Next" says invalid password or connection. Yes, Bluetooth is turned on and the ST3 as well.
Any ideas anyone?
Hello:
Some time ago I bought an unbranded HTC KAISER with WM6.1:
rom version: 3.29.422.1 WWE
rom date: 05/20/08
radio version: 1.65.20.29
protocal version: 25.88.40.04H
BT VERSION: 2.0/2.0+EDR
BT ADDRESS: 00:17:E8:2E:9F:A1
Anyway, I'm still having bluetooth issues with the unit. The BT works great with BlueAnt Z5i on streaming and music listening but I can't get it to work on phone calls, incoming or outgoing. No sound in the headset nor out of the Mic. Same problem with new Jawbone on calls and a Motorola HS860. Before I waste any more money I thought I'd ask about possile regedits etc. to correct this problem? Or perhaps I should consider new Roms?
Ben lurking here and reading and re-reading and getting more confused..anyone have suggestions or can point me to a probable solution?
Thanks for Listening
I finally got it to pair with BlueAnt ST3 and Motorola T305
BlueAnt ST3: I had to delete the ST3 connection, and get the ST3 in "pairing mode" then have the phone search for bluetooth devices. Doing this I got the password screen and entered the 0000. Driving around testing this, it was not as good as the Motorola Razr V3xx. Not always answering, dropped calls ect.
Motorola BT Speaker: I just received a Motorola T305 BT speaker, same process to get it paired. No voice activated call function yet. Just the two beeps, one indicating it is ready for a command and then it beeps again, and clicks out. The ST3 would talk to you and ask for confirmation.
What I have learned so far, the trick is to get the speaker phone in the pairing mode, so the Kaiser phone will prompt for password.
I am going to sell the Kaiser and buy the HTC touch HD and hope for better bluetooth functionality and reliability.
Hmmm... Actually I have no problem pairing any of the BT items I mentioned, just the handsfree doesn't work in all. Thanks for the reply...

HTC's respond to "the bluetooth voice dial function"

The touch pro2 can't carry out the voice speed dial function with my bluetooth headset.
tap the call handling button on the headset can not make anything happen. Neither by press and hold the button.
The only function still remain with the sony-ericsson HBH-DS970 is double tap the call handling button on the headset to re-dial the last number.
The voice speed dial function is very useful when your hands is busy, such as driving. What can I do now?
I have two bluetooth headset, one is sony-ericsson HBH-DS970 and the other is SIEMENS HHB-750.
The software I use is cyberon Voice Speed Dial V1.2.
The following is an answer from HTC:
"I do not know how you have got Cyberon installed as it is not instaled on the device by default.
I therefore cannot give you any support as the devices do not have any voice command software installed out of the box.
best regards,
HTC Europe Support"
I can't have anymore words on this.
Correct it doesn't work There are a number of threads about this around here.
I use Microsoft Voice command and have to (long) press the send key on the phone then it kicks in through the Bluetooth car kit. The general theory is this is a side effect of the change in Bluetooth stack made on this phone, I'm sure we'll see a fix, but probably not until we start seeing cooked ROMs.
Gordon
All you can do is to change the settings for the Send button to launch CVSD when you hold it, but for doing this with your headset's button, unfortunately you'll have to wait... for another ROM...
all the best
Reporting in from Canada here... after reading a couple of threads about issues with bluetooth voice dial, I got concerned and tried it this evening with my Jabra BT3030 and Telus TP2. Voice dial using the included MS Voice Command software works properly when I press the voice dial button on the BT3030. So... the problem isn't universal; we have at least some bluetooth devices out there that work properly with voice dialing on a TP2.
Hope that helps,

Would you please list some detail information, such as type number, of the bluetooth devices which work perfectly on voice dial?
I seached on this forum and many other chinese forum, almost all of them report the voice dial can't be launch for the call handling button on the bluetooth device.
Thanks in advance.

Hi net_walker,
I'm not sure if I correctly followed your question, but if you're asking for the model number of bluetooth devices that seem to work with the TP2, I gave that in my original post. It is the Jabra brand, model "BT3030" that works correctly for me on my Telus TP2. The basic web page for the model is here:
http://www.jabra.com/Sites/Jabra/na-us/Headsets/Pages/JabraBT3030.aspx?productfamilytab=Details
On that website, they list it as the model BT3030, with what I believe is an extended specific model number of "(100-93030000-60)".
Hope that is helpful,
--VelJharig
mmmh ! Very interesting !
At first time, i've thought for a BDR tweack to solve the problem.
Now it sounds like it is radio Rom dependant...

I'd be that person. If you need any other details regarding file info from the device, just let me know.
Thanks for your share.
Because at this moment we didn't have an HardSPL from our dear Olinex Team (hope they do there home work (lol)) to make a cooked rom, i'm looking for something like OEM to CAB to test the OEM into my TP2 and maybe solve the problem for all of us who can't use Bth button to make a voice call.

Hi, everybody,
Did someone know some other bluetooth headsets work with Touch Pro2 to carry out the Voice dial function, except this one "Jabra BT3030" ?
Yes, I have the Tmobile TP2 and the Bluetooth voice dial function works with the MSVC that came with the phone. There is a 5-7 seconds wait until the microphone activates. So after I hold down the call button on the ear piece for few seconds to activate voice command, I have to wait till I hear a second sound that tells me the phone is now listening. Other than this, it works just fine.
Its an old plantronic bluetooth ear piece, dont remember the model number, but its the one with silver stripes down the length of the device on the sides. Its in my car, I will check later and add that if anybody needs the number.
My Plantronics headset can call voicedial the same way it did on my Kaiser - a long press of the "call" button.

Hmmm, very strange.
I have a Plantronics Discovery 925 myself and it's supose to be one in the winner team of Plantronics, but still nothing
And I have to say that it works just perfect with Touch Cruise, Diamond and HD.
Not with this one. You're sure you didn't done anything to your phone regarding this?
all the best
Nope - one of the first things I checked when I got the phone, it worked right out of the box before I started hacking on the registry and such.

I can confirm that issue on the T-Mobile Touch Pro 2. It is a VERY long time to wait for MSVC to start listening. I wish there was a way to put the standard Bluetooth stack on here so that Voice Command would work better.
I use a variety of Bluetooth headset devices; BlueAnt S1 car kit, BlueAnt Interphone (motorcycle helmet kit), Nextlink G5, Motorola 850 Stereo headphones... and all have the same slowness for activating MSVC.
I have a MOTOROKR™ T505 and if I hold the button down it'll do last number redial but I have to hold the dial key on the phone down to get Cyberon to listen.
Can't use MSVC as it won't understand me. Lot's of humans have this problem too so it's no surprise
Anyone get anywhere with this ?
Is it fixed in 6.5 or are there any ROMs with a fix cooked in ?
I have the same problem with my SE bluetooth
I have a Tilt2 (wm 6.5) stock with a Motorola H17 and voice command works fine. About 2-3 sec after headset button push and MSVC is listening.
