ActiveSync 4.0 won't synch with Outlook 2002 SP3 - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Installed and connected ActiveSynch 4.0 successfully via USB. But it won't synchronize with my Outlook data. I'm running Outlook 2002 SP3. Error messages are:
1. When ActiveSync 4.0 is launched. But Outlook is already set as the default mail client.
"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."
2. When synchronization is attempted.
"Synchronization cannot start because this desktop computer cannot access necessary information. Restart this desktop computer and synchronize again. If the problem persists and this desktop computer is running Microsoft Outlook 2000, open Outlook 2000, click Help, and then click Detect and Repair."
Before upgrading to 4.0, I was running 3.8 and USB synchronization was working fine. But now when I uninstall 4.0 and reinstall 3.8, ActiveSync will "connect" with my XDA II and report the status as connected, but when I try to open the ActiveSynch window, it won't open.
Please help. Thanks!

AS4.0
Which ROM version in your device?
I think that, ActiveSynch 4.0 used only for WM 2005 Magneto OS and very compatible with outlook 2003 (in my Himalaya)

Crossbow and Exchange2k3 syncronization

Since I updated my Device to Crossbow I am no longer abel to sync with my Exchange-Server directly over the Internet neither does server syncronization work when connected to ActiveSync 4.5 or WMDC (I do not want to use push service). First I tried PDAViet 2.00.07 pro. Installed a Certificate and tried to use SSL, as I did with the old Aku 2.0 rom. The devices seems to connect and I can read "syncronizing folders" for half a second, then it stops. "View status" gives me the error-code 0x85010014. So I disabled SSL, which makes no difference. This morning I tought, there may be issues with that rom and installed Helmi WM6 c1.1 instead, but again no difference. Syncronization with the desktop works with no issues, but I have to sync. over the net troughout the day, when I am not at home. I've been reading a lot of articels about that error-code, but they are all mentioning activesync desktop problems, such as firewalls etc.
Can anybody help???
Hi xxl
I updated to Crossbow too, and i can syncronize without any problems with a 2003 exchange server.
The only problem i had is that i have to skip the check in activesync when i set up the connection with the exchange server.
If i don't skip that connection test i get an error and i can't connect to the server, but skipping that , allows me to set up the server and sync.
I tried Helmi, and Jwright, and both sync ok for me.
Good luck
This may be the issue of helmi's ROM
I use original WM6 ROM, sync with exchange 2003 sp2 and push email works fine.
As I use SSL, the only thing needed is to add ours CA certificate to trusted roots (created a CAB file that installs a certificate).
I use Helmi's rom v1.1 and it works fine.

Now I've tried the third rom (i-mate JASJAR Crossbow Rom 2.01.06 WWE), still the same issue. Of course I've also installed the nessesary certificate. In WM 5 AKU 2.0 SSL worked fine that way.
I dont know how to set up push mail, just tried to sync manually using Outlook Moblile or ActiveSync on the HTC.
antguada,
I dont know what you mean, I didnt recognize any connection test...???
tnx, for the replies, any other ideas?
Strange thing. I solved it and it was no issue of WM6. The public nic's IP was not on the list of permitted IP's of the OMA virtual directory. But I didnt change anything there and a few days ago I synced successfully with the old Rom...
Confused, but happy
Thanks for your advices!

Problems with synchronization an Windows Vista

I used to sync my SPV M3100 with Windows Xp SP2 and Activesync 4.5 without problems. But now I try to sync it with a Microsoft Windows Mobile laptop with Windows Vista. I have installed Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista (32-bit).
When i connect the PDA to the PC, the PC recognize the device and install drivers; Windows Mobile Device Center recognize the device and I can see it in file manager as a unit and i can access the files on it. But when i try to synchronize it gives me an error (something like that it was no possible to open a network connection) and i see that the name in Configuration-> System->About->Device Id->Device has changed from the one i have (F_M3100) and i see in File Manager and in Device Center to another one (htcxx, where xx is a number, not always the same.
The IP address is 192.168.55.101, mask 255.255.255.0 and DNS 127.0.0.1 (I think that these are default values because I have no put them).
¿Anybody can help me?
I have not mentioned that i have windows office 2007
Office 2007 makes no difference - it works OK.
Not heard of your problem specifically but you could try going into active sync on the device and removing the existing connection profiles...worth a shot.
Smiffy.

New HTC sync failure

The new version of HTC sync (ver 2.0.33) installs but won't run with a message about the application launcher not being properly configured. Several re-installs also fail as does a reversion to 2.0.28 which was working before. Any clues?
(Windows XP servicepack 3 by the way)
Works OK here on Windows 7 64bit.

+1 as above
install previous and then use the update utility in the 28 to update to 33. Only update to 33 if you have issues with 28, dont update for the sake of updating.
HTC.com says
* If you have installed older version HTC Sync on your PC or NB, please uninstall the older version first.

Thanks for the help, people but the problem is I can't install either ...28 or ...33 since I followed HTC's own instructions to uninstall the former before adding the latter - so no way to use either. (And yes I did turn off firewall and anti-virus before the upgrade)
Win7 64 here, no prob installing but NO SYNC at all.
With Outlook opened: error because Outlook does not repsond.
With Outlook closed: runs, but it says 0 contacts sync'ed
For me on Win7 x64 Ultimate work both versions ok.
would you guys (you who got the syncworking) tell me if you do so with Outlook open or closed and if you have subfolders in contacts?
thank you
i had my outlook open, it doesnt really matter if its open or closed it will still sync. When you install the htc sync it installs the drivers, when you connect your phone your pc should find the device. Is your PC finding hte device? the next step is to sync your pc with your phone.
Did you clear the settings or are you still using your old ones? you might have to clear the settings of sync and then try again (start from beginning after your pc has installed drivers).
Your phone also needs to be in sync mode not charge mode
Thanks A|ex,
of course the phone is in sync mode, and yes all the drivers are installed.
Phone finds HTC Sync, starts the sync... then if Outlook is opened it returns me an error (impossibile to contact Outlook, or something similar), if Outlook is closed it ends up with no errors, but with the log saying "0 contacts sync'ed"...
having major problems with desire>pc.
not just htc sync, but the device in not even showing in device manager.
(win 7 32bit)
any ideas?
i have tried older htc syncs, drivers etc but i cannot even get the device to show
i would like access to sd card for music photos etc

the first version .28 i installed i had to have out look closed or i sync would fail, to get HTC sync to alow me to select out look on install again outlook had to be closed.
i have upgraded to .33 and now i can use sync with outlook open or closed and it syncs fine.
i uninstalled ver .28 before installing ver .33 also i had outlook closed when installing htc sync this time and the viruscheck disabled.
maybe the fact outlook was open first time round caused my problems.

[Q] Sync Issue: TP2 WM6.5 - Activesync 4.5 - MSO-2010

Previously syncing Activesync v4.5 with TP2 running WM6.5 for over a year successfully. Transitioned from MSO-2003 to MSO-2007 with no sync issues.
After fresh install of MSO-2010 TP2 will no longer recognizes that my computer has MS-Office installed. Phone connects to computer via USB, file transfer to both internal HDD and also mini-SD-card for phone work. Running Activesync Troubleshooter tells me there’s no Outlook installed on computer (but there is as fully working version of MSO-2010). Have removed/reinstalled Activesync v4.5 multiple times (with reboots after uninstalls). Seems there must be some type of association file that is somehow out of place …
Appreciate any help from you guys ....
Regards,
Install Office 2010 x86.
"Install Office 2010 x86"
thanks, but ...
MSO-2010 (MS Office-2010x86 in my case tunning 32bitOS) is when my problems began, and I have already removed and reinstalled MSO-2010 a couple times attempting to solve my problem.
Uch, so I don't know the answer to your problems. I just know that x64 causes issues with "Outlook not found" as mentioned at MSDN.
Jackos,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Software compatability is one of a number of reasons I have still decided to stay away from a 64bit OS install.
regards,
