So, I buy an XDA IIi last Saturday after trying to get a IIs and failing miserably. Bring it home, open it up and play like an excited kid at Christmas! Go to imei-check.co.uk and get it unlocked. £20 seems reasonable for the service and it's super duper speedy. VEry impressed.
Come Monday, start to have difficulties with the handset - screen problems - and take it back to the o2 shop. Tell the guy there my story and he says that I can have it swapped for a IIi or, if I want, a IIs. They had two in stock. Snap up the IIs there and then.
Email imei-check to see if I could get this one unlocked. Now, all credit to their customer services dept, a friendly email a couple of hours later, but to say that if I had a new phone, it was a new unlock and I'd have to shell out another £20.
Now, I could understand this if I actually had a "new" phone, which techincally I do I suppose, but this is only because the first one was faulty. I surely can't be the only person to ever have been in this situation and the more I think about it, the more it has really dissapointed me with their otherwise excellent customer service. I even offered to provide copies of the exchange reciept.
What do you guys think? Am I being unreasonable here? :?
It's not really IMEI-Check's fault that your XDA died though is it? Here's an analogy:
You fill your brand new car up with fuel. Later that day, a major fault with your car develops and has to go back to the dealer. The dealer gives you a replacement straight away. Would you go back to filling station and demand some free petrol for your replacement car?
That said, it doesn't really cost IMEI-Check any money to calculate a new unlock code for you, although they've got their costs to cover...staff to pay and website hosting costs, etc. So it would really be up to them, there's no obligation.
I just wish someone would figure out how to unlock these things for free and there wouldn't be all this hassle!
-no1
Granted, and I very much like your analogy - appeals to my lawyer side!
However, it doesn't actually cost imei-check to generate the codes, as you say. It presumably costs them to develop the method, to which they are rightly entitled to earn back what they spent and make a profit.
My issue is, with the car example, I would be able to say to the dealer that I wanted them to top up the petrol, there is no way I can do this with o2 and therefore no provision for my XDA failing and being replaced.
Obviously, I'm not suggesting that imei-check are in any way bound to supply me with a new cose, but from a customer service point of view, it just strikes me as a bit dissapointing.
Ah well.
I would count yourself lucky - with the phone unlocked by a thrid party O2 *could* have voided any warantee and refuse a replacement altogether!

I bought an S620 on ebay, was setting it up and everything seemed fine until I noticed that the J, K, and L keys do not work at all.
The HTC website advised to shut the phone on and off, then perform a hard reset, and if neither of those work to send the phone in for repairs.
Well, neither of those worked, so am I out of luck and will have to send the phone for repairs? No idea what kind of warranty is on it, I am in the USA so I would probably have to ship it to some HTC repair center in some other part of the world...
Someone on howardforums suggested that I update the rom to the T-Mobile USA WM6 rom.
But...when I try to install the WM6 rom, I get an "invalid device id" (something like that) error. I take it this means the phone needs to be CID unlocked?
I did the SDA Unlock and also the SurrealNetworks Application Unlock but still get that error. Would I have to pay for an unlock code from a place like imeicheck in order to CID unlock the phone and then install the WM6 rom?
somewhere on this site you can find the answer to invalid device problem.
personally, i think your phone is defective.
A ROM upgrade won't change anything if the keys don't work before either. But if you'll have to send the device in for repairs you shouldn't have a ROM on it which is not the original one from HTC. The warranty could be voided!
Sounds like you got a defective phone. Maybe damaged by some fluid on the keyboard. Then you will not get a warranty repair. I suggest that you return the phone to the seller on Ebay.
*edit*
I asked the seller to take it back but haven't gotten a response. When I bought the phone I pulled a dumb move: made an offer by email after an auction had ended, then just did the transaction on paypal without putting a new auction thru. That left me no way to leave negative feedback, and no incentive for the seller to do anything to make me happy. I don't really feel like doing a dispute through paypal and getting caught up in that whole process. So it looks like I'm on my own.
I did a search and found the way to flash the T-Mobile USA WM6 rom onto the S620 here, but I guess that requires an unlock code from imei-check that costs money, for something that might not even fix my problem. My decision: skip that route.
As for warranty, I'm in the USA and this is not a USA model phone so I'm not be able to get warranty repairs from HTC USA. I spoke with HTC USA and they said for HTC branded phones they will accept them for non-warranty repairs, do an inspection to determine the cost of repairs, and then send me a new (maybe refurb?) replacement S620. Apparently they keep a few on hand specifically for this sort of thing. That option sounded appealing but they wouldn't really give me a ballpark figure of how much it'd cost or how long it'd take to turn around.
A friend recommended I check out www.cellulardr.com as a place to have the phone repaired. I called them and they sounded like they knew what they were talking about, told me how much it'd cost ($69 all told plus shipping) and how long it'd take to turn around (48 hours tops). Sounded good to me so I set it up. Lucky for me this seller who now has no reason to talk to me, was kind enough to at least sell me the phone for a steal of a price, so even with the repairs I'm still doing alright on the total price. I'll let you folks know how this turns out.
Bit of an update. According to Omnicom they've fixed the keyboard and are shipping the phone back to me. They were real good at sending me updates along the way. Will report back once I receive the phone.
The phone is still not in stores or in the possession of resellers, it's extremely tricky to get even on AT&T's websites and phone numbers yet there are auctions like this one popping up for suckers who really really want to buy the phone but don't have a stupid Premier account. This particular seller who has no feedback claims to provide "NORESERVE,NOCONTRAC, FAST DELIVERY I HAV ALOT IN STOCK" along with Pures and unlocking codes.
I'd bet green cash that this is fraud but as of now there are seven bidders fighting at $250 and climbing. Put it this way, if I were to set out right now to rob people on eBay, I'd start with bogus Tilt 2 listings. High demand. At best the guy is a thief and these are hot phones (you don't want a hot phone with a hot IMEI number), more likely the phones don't exist and he's a full time asshole. What I'd also bet is that there will be other thieves doing what he is (but hopefully spelling better).
Point being do not, do *not* expect not to be ripped off on eBay (along with other random sites you find on google) for the Tilt 2 until at least a week after the phone has been released in stores. And if you do buy it, get the seller to produce a picture of the phone with a timestamped post-it note. If you can't get lucky with one of many tips on this thread, just wait it out. It will really mess with your head and bank account to get scammed for this phone because you couldn't wait until the 18th. Hang in there champ.
For those of you looking to unlock, don't get suckered for codes buy guys like this, go to Olipro's http://rhodium.htc-unlocks.com/ which work on all carriers' TP2s, costing you a reasonable $18 apiece.
Doug
Why would you need to pay $18.00 to somebody to unlock your phone when you can call your carrier and get them to unlock it for free ?

This guys right, I work for Vodafone Corporate Customer Services in the UK, and we provide Network Unlock Codes for all devices we provide..... for free.
I would assume that most operators would give the same service.
However, OliPro does provide Sec Unlocking with operators won't do.
Now, I don't mean they will take your money and you wont get your code, what upsets me is, on the front of their site it says -
All phones cost €15 (20% off - normal price €18) to unlock.
Click to collapse
Nothing else to say, plain and clear, they will unlock any HTC phone for €15. FALSE
If you have a Desire, you pay your €15, you try what it says and it wont work. You then get an e-mail saying 'You need to use the new database, this costs €20 more'
I have then declined this, as I have the option, I was only going to unlock it to increase the phone value, rather than I need it. I feel sorry for those really in need, you don't really have a choice at this point.
Now, it wouldn't be so bad if when I declined and asked for a refund, it was just done... but it wasn't. 24 hours later and they still have my €15.
Does no-one else see that the way they are operating is wrong?
Who can I report this to? If a shop on the High Street advertised a TV for £449 and when I got to the till they took my £449 and then told me I had to pay another £600, I say I no-longer want the TV they then wont refund me, I could go to trading standards. Who deals with online scams?
Personally, I'm disappointed MoDaCo are linked to them, I went to them because their link is up their on every forum, I assumed they were a reputable site.
I've also had a bad experience with them.
When I was unlocking my Hero their server was down originally. Got an online tech and he spoke to me for a few seconds then just ignored me. The next two days techs were all offline but then eventually the server was up, got my code and it didn't work. Logged another support call.
I actually figured out the problem myself in the end. That goodness, because my support call still hasn't been answered.
Overall very shoddy.
I thought they would be quite reputable since they are recommended on MoDaCo (site ran by the Paul, who rooted the desire).
hope you get it sorted soon!

I know, that's what disappoints me.
Was worried about the site after I paid €15 for an unlock code that did not work, then I read their forums...
Anyway I then paid the US$35 via papal this was middle of the night in India where I think they are based. Mailed them as well and refund & working code delivered in a few hours.
Not sure they are the best at communicating but I got a working code in a few hours for £23.51 so reasonably happy with that for an unlocked and flashed Desire
yes I was also annoyed that new phones are excluded from the deal. they also only query the database with new phones once every 12 hours. though the code did work in the end!
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I bought the Desire unlocked, but I needed an unlock code for my Touch HD (which went to my GF once I received the Desire). Got it from HTCCode in a couple of hours (paid via Moneybookers, so the code is provided by email), and only paid EUR15, 'as advertised'.
What can I say, I was satisfied with their service... very quick answer considering I requested the code after their COB that day.
Yeah, you would be happy, you got the advertised price. To be honest, it's not the actual price I mind. If it just had all prices on the front page and you could look up the Desire to be €35, then it would be fine. It's that they charge you one price, then ask for over twice as much once you've already given them some.
And then, saying I will get my refund... but not giving it to me. I have started a Paypal dispute.
Have considered using their service, but will phone up t-mobile. they charge 15 pounds but the wait is slightly longer. No biggie.
have used them
hiya guys,
i have used them before to unlock my hd2. when i first registered i had the same problems as my code wasn't in the database.
i got in contact with htc code via messenger, guy sudan explained to me that they were waiting on a database update and my handset was fairly new so would have to wait a few days.
i received an email telling me that the database was up to date, then i was able to retrieve my code.
it isnt really the fault of the supplier but more a fault of htc not releasing an updated code database... the desire is a brand new phone, and imei numbers will not be in the database yet.
i would try adding the guy to messenger details are on the site, and he should be able to explain.
bear with them though as it is a good service, hes prob just waiting on the update.. and i know we are all a little impatient at times.
dan
Took 2 days for my code. keep emailing them, they do come through eventually and work OK.

I think you're missing the point. They are misleading people by saying they unlock ANY HTC PHONE for only €15 and then bump the price up €20 more... How is it not their fault that they are misleading people?
Im sorry that u had that kind of problem. Paypal dispute should be a solution.
My experience with them was very good. Got 2 unlock codes for my Hero and HD2 in a couple of minutes, although with the Hero, I had to flash another generic rom in order to get the unlock code to work
Currently in a paypal dispute with them over this. I asked nicely for a refund and got nowhere.
And this is the other point. When you suddenly ask for more money than you said it would be, if the other party declines, be good and just give them their money back! It's amazing they get away with it tbh.
I did my research before ordering. Knew I would have to pay 25 euros after reading their forums. Got the code 24 hours after sending the money. Good service in the end. They are slow but I've heard many people in the same situation as the OP get their money back before successfully getting their code. I agree its not like a proper pro outfit but they do deliver and you need to take into account that they are based in India... One happy customer here....

Well that'a the thing they are not stating it will cost extra if you just go off the website, which many people do especially when people seem to rate them so well on some forums
Similar story to you guys on here, paid the stated amount. did not work, to the forums and realised I had to pay more. They eventually refunded my original amount and took the new amount. Bit of drama really for something they could easily be stated correctly on their site.
the front page offer "Unlock any HTC phone [] for €15" is certainly a lie.
HTCCODE does work but better to check their forum first and as mentioned you need to pay directly to their email address using paypal for new sets like Desire.
I payed 15 Euro and then had to send another $25 which is a bit strange and leap of faith but in the end got unlock code for my HTC Desire and 15 Euro refunded. So it cost me just $25 (around £19).
Paypal told me on the phone they cannot give me a refund... but I just received an e-mail from them telling me they have overturned my claim and I have my refund!
I'm going to try HTCunlock.com for £20 instead!
Hello,
I have two hardware problems with my HU from Pumpkin. Should I send it back to autopumpkin in China or could it be, that I will never see it again?
Has anyone experience with the Pumpkin service?
Thank you!
My touchscreen died (1 month old unit). Jammy on their forums said they would need to ship me a new screen... then nothing. I've emailed twice without response. I'm not thrilled with them.
Also mine has problems with the screen. It is flackering sometimes and often the screeen switches off.
So it is better to life with it, then to send it back to China.
I came onto here to write about my experience with pumpkin just yesterday. my HU is a few months old pumpkin brand bought off amazon. I started getting random phantom touches on the screen and it would swipe/touch icons and stuff i never touched it! So i decided to email pumpkin and ask for suggestion to fix. They replied within 24 hours and offered a free screen replacement along with video instructions on putting it in. The new one is on its way to me now at no cost. Their english is very "broken" but they DO have good customer service and want a satisfied customer, they also gave me links to the latest factory firmware for my unit too. Very nice
Thought i'd share my experience with them

Ive found the same, Poor english but quick responses and very willing to help when they can.
I would buy from them again.
My response was not as good. Flickering/dark issues. They tried to say it was software, so I did all they said. When that didn't work, they wanted me to pay shipping for a screen (over $100) and would offer no guarantee that it would work.
Nice to see that other people had good service, though. I wonder if they are friendlier to Amazon customers because they fear Amazon coming back on them. I bought directly from autopumpkin and feel that their hardware support was lacking.

I did get mine from Amazon and contacted them through amazon messaging, maybe that's the difference i don't know, but they at one point sent me a new screen under warranty even no shipping charges. (more than I thought was going to happen at least)
Be nice to support and realistic to yourself.
Many companies that sell global have different warranty and support/service. I.e. when you buy in Europe the same unit costs additional % to pay for repairs/warranty/replacement.
The same goes for every company I know. I can buy from Hong Kong, Russia, etc. and don't have to pay for those extra % on warranty, but of course that also means that I get no warranty if I don't pay for it.
When you buy from the Pumpkin website, you pay the price for the local market wherever they are. If that's in China and warranty there doesn't cover replacement or global replacement but only repair in the country you bought it, than you as international customer have no warrenty.
I.e. when you buy a device with warranty in Europe, you have bad luck trying to claim that warranty later in the USA or Japan or Russia. It all depends on where you buy it, local warranty, extended global or not, etc? The moment you buy from a store in your own country it's clear, you know what you pay for, or not. But whenever you go online and shop global, either you learn about the over 1.000.000 global regulations and laws or you simply live with a yes/no and don't know on forehand what you get for an answer.
Some larger companies have better support, i.e. Dell. I had a broken Screen bought in Europe that broke down when I was a few years in Russia. Dell send me the newest version cost-free across the globe to replace my broken screen. But that might not be covered by standard warranty, just a nice guy at the helpdesk. I've had with Canon the same once. But first support I got told me I was in bad luck. I called again, and than again, and third time I got a lady at the phone that was very helpful and said of course she'll prepare everything and I got a replacement within 1 week.
Same happened to me to German Telekom once when I had a broken phone. I called, called again, every time nothing. At one point, I got a Manager on the phone, a real manager from the top! Later I read in the newspaper they do that sometimes, the managers at the top working half a day the job of those below them to know about their work they are doing. And this manager said immediately of course we replace the device, next day I got a new iPhone upgraded version in my hands.
So it really matters which country, which law, which support representative, how nice do you ask, etc..
generally it's good to make the support representative feel like you are a poor person, in need of help and only him/her personally can save you. Some people I noticed called with a tone/way of speaking like:" I'm a customer, I'm the king, you are my slave, you must replace, you must for me, I paid and so you must crawl through the mud for me" of course people who talk like that get NOTHING!
So it's also how you represent yourself. Be nice, be gentle, let them know you are in need, they CAN but not MUST help you, start your conversation with:"i've had such great experience in the past..."
And if you don't have luck with 1 support representative, try again! That's no guarantee of course. Sometimes you are simply out of luck. I mean, when your printer dies after 12 years of loyal service, or your carkit dies after 6 years of service, you really think the product you bought isn't already written off economically? Of course it is. So be realistic with your claims.
Just received this. The must really appreciate us here as they will give us our money back and even collect the device.

Just got the same email and this paragraph makes me angry.........
"Due to this unfortunate incident and as a token of appreciation to you as our customer, we will offer you a full refund of your purchase or an exchange for any S7 range. We will also collect the defective device from your home so you don’t need to worry about returning it"
There is no "token of appreciation" here at all samsung!!! You are offering me nothing at all and that's just not on I'm afraid.
O2 are the same but worse, they have collected my not told me to contact them at least 24 hours after the call to talk an upgrade or cancellation I contacted them today nearly 48 hours after that call and basically got told they would refuse to do anything for 3-5 days until they actually had received and checked the device. they also offered no help with lost money for things like screen protectors and other accessories so needless to say I will never be using them again. they didn't even offer a token gesture discount on an alternative device.
so I've said they can go fornicate a rusty pole and and took up the 20% monthly discount my works offers on EE to get the Pixel XL.
Similarly composed letter in Estonia too.
Returned everything and disappointed. Will think not twice, but five times before buying Samsung products in future.
Makes me wonder what are they smoking to believe that europeans are happy to be treated worse than rest of the world.
I was just pushed a message which directed me to call Samsung on the 0330 number. Called them. Lines are closed even though it says open to 6pm saturday. Used the number ending in 1000, guy on the end said to power down phone and I will get a call back from them. I asked if they had thought this through. How do i get a call back without a phone to use. I need the money to buy a phone but cant get the refund until a long time after I have sent this one back.
This is going from bad to worse isn't it.
I was disappointed with Samsung about the faulty Note 7s, but I was not angry with them since they made some design or manufacturing mistakes which to an extent you could argue were out of their control. Or at the very least, which were not forseen.
But as they continue to mismanage this situation in this cack-handed way, I am most certainly starting to get angry. As stated in the thread earlier, people need time to plan for swapping their phones out. These are not toys, for which there is mild or no inconvenience if you are without it for a few days. These are serious pieces of equipment people rely upon in their daily lives.
I won't be returning mine any time soon.
I'm angry that they offered the s7e at full price. Not even a discount for our troubles. To add insult you can get the s7e cheaper elsewhere too
Most odd. In this European country the Note 7 cost 880.00€. The S7 edge cost 100.00€ LESS so hardly a fair exchange! Obvious thing to do is accept the cash back offer. Like you guys and gals I am also out of pocket big time on original Samsung accessories. Samsung in Europe have not made this an acceptable return have they. End of the day we, the consumer, have lost out on this as well as Samsung Korea.
One thing for sure, don't let the politics of the situation get in the way. Return your Note 7. Left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Ryland
its all in stages, just wait.
it was recall with refund or exchange only.
then exchange + $50 voucher
then exchange + 250 visa credit card,
and now exchange + $350 visa card, getting really hard to say no...
Mentioned the same in the other thread about UK recall.
I've tweeted them asking why it's different to the US recall.
I would be very interested to know how any complaints from guys here develop. People need to phone them and complain, get angry, threaten them by informing them you will go to every tech website and report this pathetic customer service attitude to them.
I am sick of Samsung treating the UK and Europe like we are not as important as the rest of the world. We pay more for the phone, we get less special offers, we haven't got Samsung Pay here yet, we didn't get the Note 5 and now we don't get any compensation. Just a lame email that makes it seems they are doing us a huge favour by giving us a refund! The least they could do is give us a hefty discount on the S7 Edge.
It makes me sick in the stomach.
.
so annoying .. carphone whorehouse want me to take my N7 back and have the £99 deposit back.
as far as there concerned the extra I've already been charged on my tariff doe not come into it.
so they want me to downgrade to a S7.. i had a N5 before all this which i now wish i had kept !
if i had wanted a S7 i would of bought one !!
so now its all lose lose ..
See how easy it is to complain about compensation
Guys,
I have put a post up here on XDA urging UK consumers to complain about not receiving any compensation in line with other countries.
Please take a look and please at least give it a go at following the instructions. It's really quick and simple. It may or may not get anywhere but it's certainly worth trying.

yep how this recall has been handled in the UK is a massive joke, I've already told O2 where they can go since they refuse to release my account or let me upgrade for best part of a week, basically wanting to leave me without a phone. I realise the problem has likely happened the same with all suppliers in the UK, but I'm pissed off so I'm leaving them and going else where.
for those at carphone warehouse it should be possible to get a full refund and your contract dropped to a monthly sim only contract, they can't force you to take a alternative, it is the same reason O2 had to give the option of a full refund and potential cancellation because the phone has to be returned meaning you are not getting any goods so need a full refund for those goods, the problem with the likes of carphone warehouse is the contracts include the device charge in the service charge so you lose your monthly payments that should go towards the phone, I was slightly better off on O2 as the phones are a separate credit agreement so O2 is forced to cancel it and refund me all payments I've made on it, the problem being they are going to drag it out that long I will have made another payment they will have to refund me instead of just clearing the phone off now as it has been picked up by the courier for return.

I am one of the lucky ones I suppose. I got mine from ee one of the first to have pre ordered, the when the 1st exchange kicked in was given 50£ for my troubles and 30 quid for accessories refund. I also got free 8gb data as ee expected a delay in delivery. Second time round I was offered a choice of upgrade for the exact same deal I had on a note 7 to get a iPhone 7 plus (grr iPhone yes I know), but it's the wife who chose it as she fancied something new. Having upgraded before the handset was exchanged left ee in a dilemma as they could not then give me a loan phone because the iPhone 7 plus won't be available until end of October possibly. They then asked me to send the note 7 handset back in for the recall and wait for my iPhone 7 plus. I advised them I had no other handset. They tried all the usual please use a previous handset and I stuck to my guns. They then offered me 50 quid to purchase a new handset as a I await for the iPhone 7 and laughed back at the chap that how could I buy a handset for 50 quid. After negotiating and arguing was given 150 quid credit for a handset as a I await my iPhone 7,so definitely benefitted from this nightmare.

I think this has been an unprecedented issue for all involved especially second party networks like ee. Initially when the second recall was kicking in ee didn't know what to do, which is why I ended up getting nearly 250 quid from this whole mess so can't complain.

both recalls O2 has refused to part with a penny or even offer help in a reasonable time frame, hell just to get through to the line they said I had to phone immediately I spent over an hour on hold, honestly their customer service throughout has been terrible and a total waste of space, achieving nothing other than alienating their customers.
