Hi,,
a few weeks ago, I made and give away the program MY PHONE which allows you to preview your last phone and SMS on Today Screen.
I updated this program finally, today. Stay a freeware. But I stopped to write it more. It's still here myphone.
Just because I made a new program MY|MESSAGES with much more improvemented features and stability. And with SMS auto-reply with pre-defined text.
It's here mymessages, and this program is a shareware with 7 days trial.
Here's brief descriptions:
This program displays on Today Screen, your last phone calls, SMS and email messages.
Additionally, it allows you to reply to SMS sender, without the needs to open the Inbox dialog.
Program features:
- preview phone calls log
- preview up to 5 your email accounts
- preview SMS account
- preview ActiveSync account
- show/hide any account independently
- show/hide list of message by tapping the title line
- show/hide details of every mesage independently or together
- show/hide battery, memory and external card status
- quick reply to SMS sender with one of pre-defined text
Program settings:
- select the number of messages to display from 1, 3, 5 or 10
- select only the today's messages to display
- select the name or number/email to display

- display the red title line if the last phone call is missed
- display the red title line if the last message is unread
- blink the title line (and icon) if the status changed
- define up to 4 auto-reply text with up to 100 characters
- select the SMS number format - change this setting if you get message: "cannot send SMS", because it depends from your cellular network preferences
Program specials:
- if the last phone call is missed, the preview of number is displayed automatically
- if the last message is changed or unread, the preview of sender name and subject is displayed automatically
- if the one of above happen, the icon beside the line changes to the red picture
- tap any message's sender name will display subject text
- tap any account title line will hide the list and all details at once
- the menu displays preview of your own pre-defined SMS reply text, only if you tap on SMS message
- tap the resources line changes between MB and percentage values
Program requirements:
- PPC2002 or Windows Mobile Phone Edition (Second Edition too)
- 60kB of free memory
The Trial Version works 7 days without limits. Red message "shareware" will display every 5 minutes. Then auto-reply and preview of details will not run.

I highly suggest not to touch any piece of software this guy publishes!!! he's extremely unreliable, doesn't support his users, abandons projects days or weeks after he publishes them, has tons of bugs which he doesn't fix, he rather play with his features than fix bugs. I was one of many who paid about $30 for his "Profiles Seriously" or whatever it was called, it was packed with bugs which were never fixed.
This guy is a joke as a software developer!!!
STAY AWAY!!!!
please
mr. new-to-image
I'm Janusz Gerszberg,
just check the newest PHONE PROFILES SE version 7.0.
and firstly test this MY|MESSAGE software before you say anything.
I dont see any bugs. as many my customers.
and please do not stay anonymously.
if you have opinion.
:x
For a reference of this guy's previous "success" in the software industry, check this thread and see how many complaints are posted from users, many of which also paid $30:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5169
Who's to say this new software won't display similar "syndromes". The fact if Mr. JGUI, you've more than proved yourself to be unreliable and an amateur, so you pretty much deserve any criticism, and as for my anonymity, it's my god given right on the Internet, and is entirely irrelevant to the objective criticism I post here.
Pissed off about my post?? Damn good, so am I regarding the $30 I paid for your piece of crappy software and the endless time I've spent on the forum with other members complaining and asking again and again for you to fix all the bugs, while you were showing off your latest "features", playing with them like an infantile instead of fixing the bugs we had, like a serious developer should have done.
You've got no-one to blame but yourself, you created your own reputation, now live with it!
Therefor I stay by my previous warning: STAY AWAY!!!! Don't give this guy any money for his so called "software", if he wants to give it out for free like Zendrui's marvelous PocketZenPhone (a fine example of how software SHOULD be written) then fine, but don't pay for it!!!
very good

After reading the tread new_to_imate mentioned, I can imagine he's utterly reluctant to any new software written by JGUI.
I for one cannot imagine why a developer who asks money for software he wrote does not fix bugs faced by a number of his customers. Just the fact JGUI cannot reproduce the bugs these customers face does not imply he shouldn't care about it at all. Instead, he should find a way to reproduce these bugs, on way or another, or otherwise simply return money back!
Having said that, on the other hand I do not understand why people hand over their hard-earned money when they are able to try it out for a certain period before paying for the full version. However, if the shareware version works flawlessy and the full version contains bugs, then JGUI should fix them a.s.a.p.
I tried both Phones Seriously and Zendrui's PocketZenPhone and this new MY|MESSAGES, and I must admit I couldn't get Phones Seriously get to work properly. PocketZenPhone works like a charm, and it is free too!
MY|MESSAGES worked perfectly too, but a pricetag of $12,85 is WAY to high for the given functionality...

How do I uninstall "Myphone" ?? It is not what I want or thought it would be but do you think i can kill it and remove it ?

Did you try unchecking the MyPhone plug-in in the Today Screen settings? This should normally unload the DLL, so that it can be deleted.

Yup--JGUI has pissed off his customer base. Not only on this board, but others around the Internet and on Handango as well.
Give up JGUI--you should have listened to your angry customers by fixing your bugs and stop "playing" with your new features.
JS (no hiding here)
i second that one
Yea... I was just browsing posts (looking for new ways to screw up my phone) and ran into this one. I vividly remember this MORON and his "software development" skills.
This is one guy whose software I DEFINITELY won't try.
Peace.
i'm also going to stay away from jgui's software. yesterday i was unchecking the my|phone plug-in in today screen settings. right after clickinig 'ok' i got my first (and unintended) hard reset on my xda2 :-( and now i am re-installing all the fine stuff i had installed before and restoring my personal data.
i don't like having software-caused hard resets without my permission. the accidental hard reset was (in my opinion) caused by the installed my|phone 1.4 but i will surely not install the 1.5 (that was the reason for me trying to de-install 1.4) and not at all this new stuff my|message.
this experience is very annoying for me but it would be more annoying if i had payed some money for the software.
so jgui, before you try to earn some money by your software please get it stable and reliable or clearly point out that you only offer unsupported versions (where nobody would pay any cent for, i guess).
guys,
I did not implemented in my software any hard-reset feature.
And because Pocket PC has WM_HIBERNATE inside, this is not possbile
that some software make hard-reset due conflicts inside there.
So please peter, your hard-reset was not by my fail. be serious.
PEOPLE.
I give away free trial versions of all my software. So please try, you dont like - you dont have to pay. and use.
but dont say "it does not work at all" because many people use it successful with no problems.
of course I'm sorry for any problems, and still I made many fixes resolved problems which users reported to me.
this is my final word in this forum thread.
I to have got a hardreset from My|Phone.
It´s FULL of bugs, and not just a few but many!
I will never use Jgui´s software again, until he has a good rumor as a reliable
programmer, and not just a showoff as he is right now.
I looked around for an alternative to My|Phone, and found TodayPhone.
I bought the program, and it works flawlessly without any bugs!
They also released a new version of it, just a week ago and it added a
few new features and small fixes...
Jgui should learn from others!

Yea, did that with no use, still can't remove it. In the end I renamed it and removed it after a reset, but it still won't leave my "installed progs" list now. Grrrrrrr !!!!!
At least I haven't experienced the hard reset problem, yet.
I also can confirm that my XDA rebooted when I attempted to uninstall MY|PHONE.
This guy should focus on learning real development without bugs, before ever starting to customize his forms for Windows mobile 2003 SE !!!
Considering we are beta testing his so-called software, that he does not listen to people wills and that the sofwares are bug-factories, I think *he* should pay us for that bag of ****.
You want a good software try PocketZenPhone.
Works almost flawlessly and when there's a problem it is fixed before you knew what happen.
And, it's free
You want a good today plugin about your missed calls and so on, try PhoneDashboard.

JGUI has stolen most of the concept behind this nice piece of code that rocks (it's 14.99$ and I believe it is worst it)

Interesting reading this - i installed My|Phone on both my XDA and XDA 2 - getting rid of it on either was a complete nightmare (not to mention the problems it caused). IMHO you need to be very careful about installing software on your PPC, as one dire bit of code can kill it so darn easily.

I just updated my "flagship software" for Phone Edition.
(sorry for the one month of delay time)
Many many improvements, new features and fixes.
Now you can replace the default balloon message of the upcoming phone, use the fullscreen message, see the caller's photos in any size... or turn the Pocket PC completely off into the Silent Profile.
More fixes for the standard PPC2002 and WM2003 Phone Edition versions.
You can customize the view of taskbar with all default icons are still visible correctly. The only solution for Phone Edition.
Plus: skinable interface, icons, images, messages in the full version, just it going to change the name to the Phone Profiles Seriously.
The Lite Version is free update for current users.
Test it. There is a few different O/S now. Be sure it works with your device correctly.
The Trial Version works 7 days without limits.
More screenshots, descriptions on the new Home Page:
http://www.jgui.net/phoneprofiles/index.html
Read there how to customize your images, icons, message.
I open the contest for the best and fun icons for Phone Profiles.
The winners (3) will get the full version. Until the end of February.

hello,
do you consider making Polish language version of your software ?? question not only out of curiosity ..
regards, monika
My trial of version 3.1 has just finished, so I downloaded version 5 to see what has changed.
The settings interface is a big improvement, but there are two bugs that I've found which have annoyed me. Also, in version 3.1 I had nice small icons on the Today screen. In version 5 the icons are huge! Too big!
Bugs:
- When I click a profile icon, then choose a time, the click goes through the time button to the today item behind it. The profile is chosen OK, but I then have to close (for example) the Bluetooth setting dialog. Grrr!
- Last night I was browsing my offline IE favourites. As normal, every time I opened a stored page, the XDA2 tried to connect GPRS to check the page version. As normal I clicked the 'cancel' button to stop the GPRS connecting, but every time I did this, the machine turned itself off. I discovered this is because I had chosen a Phone Profile (default Silent) with the setting to turn the machine off after every call. This was a major pain in the ass. If this setting is going to cause the machine to switch off like this then I'm never going to use it - it's a wasted setting.
At the moment, Version 5 has disadvantages for me. It's not a step backwards, because the settings interface is improved a lot, but I'm not going to use the program any more. This is a pity - Version 3.1 was excellent!
Hope this helps.
Edit: More bugs? I just set the 'Loudest' profile to 'Vibrate: longer' on incoming calls. Wow. It was definitely longer. It wouldn't stop, even 30 seconds after the phone had passed the call to answerphone. I had to switch it off and back on to stop the vibration. Great.
Also on loudest profile, with SMS set to 'Sound: normal' and 'Vibrate: normal', I get no vibration or sound at all when an SMS comes in.
Also also , I can't configure MSN Messenger alerts independently, which I could in V 3.1.
Damn, my disappointment level is rising!
1. I think it is safe to see the today screen and changes of phone profiles whe it happen - just to be sure "where you are". why do you want to change the phone profle when you are with another settings dialog? if I undestood you correctly
2. you have right, I did not think in this way. I will fix it. In the meantime: just do not use "turn the power off after the call" option, easy?
thanks for you comments
Thanks for responding quickly.
More explanation:
1.
On the Today screen I have PhoneProfiles with the (large) icons visible. When I tap an icon to change profile I get the timeset buttons (15, 30, 60, 90 etc.). The timeset buttons are bigger than the area that PhoneProfiles needs, so on my screen the timeset buttons overlap the item below, which is my Bluetooth headset profile item. When I click the '---' button to select the PhoneProfile, the click activates the chosen PhoneProfile, but also hits the Bluetooth headset item.
2.
I have disabled the 'Turn power off after the call' option.
I uploaded the setup file,
problems with vibrate and fullscreen skinning fixed
btw: when you use "longer vibrate" or "pulse"
and you will not answer the call and the caller cancel the ringing
and now you want to break the vibrations
PRESS the red phone hardware buttons on tap the balloon or fullscreen message
Hi JGUI,
Nice work.
I miss one thing. Is possibel to give diferent ring tones to callers? as you can do with the pictures?

different sounds
are you sure you want it?
I noticed that when I set different sounds sometimes when I hear my phone ring I do not focus and undestand that it is ringing because my mind expects default ring I use.
in the previous version there was an options to random select sounds from one folder and this given me the same confusion as the one above, sounds changes and I do not recognize that my phone ring when I listen music or tv....
any way, of course I thought so and I can add this feature
you can keep photos and sound in one folder with names as your caller phone numbers and the program will use if found photo or sound with appreciated name to number
thanks
caller photo trial?
Hi!
@JGUI: the description and screenshots look very promising. I would like to use this program to replace the CallerId program that comes with the MDA/XDA II. CallerId is somewhat notorious, and seems to cause many problems.
However, I would like to test this feature before I shell out $39... would you consider making a trial version of the Seriously version? You could limit the caller photos to, let's say, three entries. That would be enough to test the feature, and still give enough incentive to actually buy the program!
Also, do you consider foreign language versions? I'd be happy to help you making a German version, if you want!
Best Regards
Daniel
I made
I made the trial,
of course as I made it always for all my software.
this is one setup file for all versions of Phone Profiles currently,
you install and you start to use the trial,
then you can write in settings dialog the password
to unlock to the lite version or to the full "seriously" version
depend what passwword you got.

Hi JGUI, I downloaded the trail and it look good.
One thing i miss is that whem receiving a sms I can let the red light only flash for 5 minutes up to one hour. I would like to see it flash without limit. So only when I read the sms the red light can go off.
Got it...excellent
But do I need to delete caller id monitor from start ???? I think it s not usefull now right ? with JG prog, functions are the same and I am not sure to use the two at the same time wont make some bugs Your opinion ?
Oh, and we all want configurable MSN Messenger alerts, right?

I tried the 3.xx versions but I had some bugs ...
The version 5 looks good but it is not possible to have different ring tones for contact
And 39$ it is a little bit more expansive when you see that Crazy kart only cost 15$
For that price do we have unlimited upgrade free ?
Could some users post their feedback about this version ....
Fix web site... www.jgui.com ?
JGUI:
I downloaded the Seriously version and like many of the features. However, I am trying to figure out how to set all of the features you describe. Your web site has broken links all over the place... and, moreover, it's difficult to find this software without knowing the exact link.
REQUESTED FEATURE:
It would be VERY nice to be able to "schedule" profiles to turn on and off. For example, I'd like to have silent scheduled from 10PM-6AM, then have the default turn on from there...
Thx, JS
link?
broken link?
I think it works fine:
www.jgui.net/phoneprofiles/
scheduling profiles? hmmm? I think it would be "too much".
you will forget your settings between just 4 profiles, scheduled and normal changed, very soon! and you will be wonder that your phone works in unexpected way...
I tested scheduling, my friends too....
We think that the simple tap the icon and change the profile temporary or continuously, it is the better solution...
But I'm still listening comments, awaiting... let's see what others will say...
thank you for your comments

Well, I would find that a useful feature. You could, for example, program it to go to the "quietest" profile each day from 10pm to 7am, when you're asleep.

So you have a nice application that has to run all the time (because it detects a sensor, it reacts on something, whatever)... People love it and want to use it.
Then you have stupid WM limits. You can have only 32 processes mister (and 32MB for them)... Yeap that's all for you, even today and WM 6.5 (expected to change with WM7 but WM7 if it ever comes, is at least 18 months away)...
Then you have modern devices that from the factory come loaded with things you want to use and these 32 processes are already half "eaten"...
Then us geeky users, try to add more things and before you know it: "Cannot execute whatever.exe" (inc. even your sync subsystem... no discriminations here)... Then some of those nice programs those nice people in XDA devs made... have to go.
Microsoft HAS an workaround though. A workaround that is used in your desktop windows much more, even though desktop windows don't have this stupid limit: SERVICES.
It's even a philosophy thing: Something that has to run all the time, should be service! Something that you don't want the system to kill it for you, should be service! Something that runs in the background "invisible" SHOULD be service!

Yes a service is a bit more complex thing to build and handle (for example you cannot just "quit" a service), but the results are there; and after all this is what some apps SHOULD be.
...So I am making this thread to have a nice AND ESP. FRUITFUL discussion about shifting your great creations to services (i.e. to whatever app this applies). The issue is there. The solution is there. Don't turn a blind eye to it.
Fire away...
(ps. I'd love if someone makes this sticky eventually)
Yes, we can!
Ok we have one recruit.
Let's hope for more.
(I esp. wait for mr. TouchLockPro guy - ...TLP as CMP ***SHOULD*** be service)
i have to say after reading this thread it does make really good sense especially if your like me who keeps a messanger running all the time be it beejive or im+ and also call firewall so getting those programs to run as a actual service that would be good so i know that there running all the time
cooker point of view, with 64 mb mem device(max 33-34 mb mem free) - just thinking aloud..

so 1/2 still left..
btw one more thing:
what about battery life time vs many services(lets say not especially good written ones)?
All my devices hit the 32 process limit pretty soon.
I definitely welcome a cook's point of view, but this cannot apply to everybody.
Something that must run all the time, must run all the time. Be it a service or a process or a cooked module. In fact you can have a service as a cooked module. That's not the point.
The point is overcoming an issue that Windows Mobile has.
A real actual problem that all "more than basic" users face sooner all later.
We have devices with great potential (my TP certainly has) that are limited by stupid 10-15 years old limits.
Let's not take the side of young Bill "640Kb should be enough for everyone" Gates, or people that said some years ago that "IRQ is not a problem"... well history taught both of them otherwise.
Personally I strongly suggest devs that want to make something that must run all the time, to take a hard look on services.
This is a very interesting topic, which I did not know of.
Why are the builtin programs of a phone not packaged as a service by the manifacturer?
Then the remainder programs can use the other 32 processes
If TouchLockPro is only packaged as a service, this will be only 1 process less.
I see also a lot of cons for services. Debugging/developing is much more difficult.
And I am also not sure, if there is a UI related to the service, if that is still a separate process (not background task). As I read the articles, the UI related applications use the service events for doing their job. So for TouchLockPro this would be a no-win, it still needs a separate process. So no gain from that perspective.
Services, esp. for WM which are always dll, interact with their environment using various calls.
Having a front end, as long as it is used to set various bits and pieces (like in your TLP) that are then stored for the dll to use, is no problem. Your config front end will be a process of course, but not one that you keep in the background, will run only when needed.
If you talk about your popup window with the six buttons, I am sure you can do that too.
On purpose, one of the links I included above talks about SPB that has already moved all their "backbone" apps to services - and as you know SPB apps use everything... config screens, today items, pop-ups, you name it. Indeed everybody that has SPB software installed, will see in the proper task manager, just a few SPB services installed and no process, as many SPB products as you have. In fact I bet this has allowed them (or at least helped them) to have their famous integration between their products.
Hi.
Just a tip. Debug isnt complicated. Just attach the debugger(Visual Studio) to services.exe and you will be able to debug. Its a similar procedure to debug a today plugin (attaching to shell32.exe).....

I have only done some ROM cooking (1 Pass/9 Fail) but I can say that this is a great topic especially once you deal with UI replacing or enhancing today plugins which consume memory like nothing else such as PointUI's Home 2 and HTC's Manila 2D. Software As A Service is the future!
Hi
After two days I managed to configure commmgrpro to run in dual mode, as a service or as a process. I thought It was going to much more difficult. If someone needs help please let me know.....
Dani
Well since I am beta testing the thing and works really well, I can only say "why didn't everybody do it like that already!" (i.e. for apps that it fits - read: programs that run all the time).
You even did it in record time and that option that switches it back to being a process... fantastic!
So people ask Danny for help, you can all do it!
(erm... I hope this didn't sound bad for Danny's programming skils hehehehe)

I second that. Once I get better at C++ this would be quite good to know.
Sure
On monday I will give detailed explications. Basically
1) Your program lives attached to services.exe
2) You cant configure it to run on startup because it wont be signed (except if you ve certificate) so windows will refuse to load it with all the signed drivers and sservices. You ve to run a small program on startup (\windows\startup) that will load your service (ActivateService api)
3) Create some registry keys under HKLM\services defining your service(where is you dll, your pefix, description, order, etc).
4) You ve to create a DLL implementing 3 functions (init, uninit and iocontrol)
5) The key is the xxx_init method. You should create and launch a thread because that function should return quickly or services.exe will unload your service because you re a slow boy .
6) that thread should do what your WinMain function does. Generally will initialize your program and tipically loop to process windows messages (getMessager, TranslateMessage, DispatchMessage).
7) The uninit method should finish your program. Be careful to free all the memory allocated. In a normal program if you do memory leak on exit program windows will recover it. Here not. If you start/stop your services many times and you dont clean and destroy all your objects/heaps then services.exe will grow and grow.
Seach the function activateservice in msdn help. Its the door to a clear documentation about services. And of course, ask me what you need

Designed to replace apps like Best Reminder.
Oh, it's free too! Very early alpha. Probably buggy.
So as a user do we just use a cab file to implement the programs?

[UPDATED 12/7/10]
BETA 4.1!
**update** If you were caught in the infinite automatic-update, things should be fixed now. Also, I forgot to disable the Compose button in the inbox. It will crash the app if clicked on. Hopefully by friday I can have another version that has this part working
Photo Albums! Pictures can now be viewed in XDAFacebook.
Big pictures will open up in the default browser for the time being. Once I make a good photo viewer, I'll replace that.
Also, the settings menu has a whole section dedicated to photos. Feel free to play with the settings, but numerical values == 0 or <0 will cause the app to crash! There is no safty net for this!
There is a number for concurrent image downloads. This number should be between 6-10. Any more can cause slow down, and less and the effect seems non-existant. I've gone as high as 25 and felt pretty good about it. But I haven't dared push it to the limit!
New albums had a few bugs so I held back on this release. It will be coming soon!
Older Posts! Feel free to browse the older posts I've successfully gone about a days worth of posts back w/o any lag.
Searchable Friends List! I added a search box at the top of the friends search list
Memory Management! Special Thanks goes out to Corwin9S. He helped me look at the memory usage. I reduced the CPU cycles by ~30%. It still takes up about 3-6 mbs of RAM. This is caused by Form Allocations, DLL imports, etc. Most of the space is just allocated space that I can't get rid of. I will try to find more ways to make the RAM usage go down, but from what I've been told by some people at MSFT, this numer isn't uncommon or bad. CPU cycles are what count and that's what I'm trying to optimize
GUI fixes! I finished the drop-downs, so they look a little more professional. I also added the numerical counters. There are still more that can be done on them, so I will continue improving their apperance and performance.
Rollup of bug fixes
And finally SPEED!! This version should be the fastest yet. Rendering times are super quick and load times seem to be back to where they belong.
Instructions for Localization:
Please create a blank language file (instructions are above) and edit ONLY the text in between the quote marks "". The quotes need to remain!
Verify that your text doesn't fly off the screen. Anywhere that the text is too long for the graphic, try shortening the word or pick a different one (if that's possible) if not, let me know (via picture) and I'll make the necessary changes.
Once you have a translated file, save it as <Language>.txt and upload it to your device. Place it in the same directory where you got the Blank.txt.
Please share your translations!
ALSO! Since the app will be transforming and new features will be being added, the translation process will be ongoing.
If you click "Create Blank Language File" and you already had an alternate translation loaded and working, the Blank.txt will only have the new strings in english, so you will only need to translate the changes.
Unfortunately, after a couple of hours searching the web and looking at platform SDKs, I have learned that poking is not supported by the Graph or REST APIs (what I use to interact with facebook). I've been looking, and I might be able to hack something that might work, or I could have the option to support Pokes via SMS. I need your feedback. Which option (or both) sounds the best? Does anyone even Poke anymore?!
Wall posting is very basic at the moment. I will be making an advanced text editor that has more options for posting links, privacy settings, etc.
I also changed the road map a little. Let me know if that works for everyone!
Hope everyone likes the new updates!
I also wanted to make a road map of releases leading up to the final release of Version 1.0:
BETA 4.X
This beta release will focus on posting data to Facebook and making sure everything works well.
This beta release will also include newer GUI pieces, such as Inbox!
BETA 5.X
This beta release will focus on Chat!
BETA 6.X
This beta release will focus on App Completeness! Or making sure all the functionality of a full Mobile Client have been implemented
RC 1
This release candidate will focus on Bullet-Proofing! All minor bugs should be worked out
RC 2
This release candidate will only happen if major bugs are discovered in RC 1
Release 1.0
Hopefully all is well!
That is the road map I have planned. I don't anticipate Beta 3 to be out very long (unless there are major bugs). I want to get to beta 4.X as soon as possible. I also might mix and match But that is the proposed roadmap to Release 1.0!
Devices that this beta has been tested on:
HD2 WVGA
BUGS!!!
Authorization should be working, but using the new URL is a lot cleaner (I think). Go here to authorize directly. Once you see the browser transfered to "Success" then try the application again
Friend names that are really long hang off the edge.
I've fixed this bug for the next release, long names will be clipped with Ellipsis
And the status of this beta is:

post concept image in thread/send us the .psd file
(OPTIONAL) Make skin with concept
Skin the XDAFacebook app instructions:
Download zip file
extract all images and place them in the \Program Files\XDAFacebook\Resources folder
launch application
enjoy!
Ok, instructions on how to skin the app are as follows:
Find the image that you want to replace.
Create new image and give it the specific name.
Special "tags" at the end of the name give the image special features.
copy the images to the \Program Files\XDAFacebook\Resources directory
list of tags:
_alpha this will take the first pixel of the image and make it the images "Alpha Channel". Make sure that the image is solid in that color and that there are no artifacts!
_trans_### where ### is a number (ie 200, 100, 10. Not 001). This number represents the total opacity for the image. The higher the number, the more opaque. Range 255-0.
_trans_png. This only works with 24 bit PNG files!!!! This is also very resource intensive, so make this a last option. This will preserve the images alpha channel. It is the only way to make partial transparencies.
List of files: This list will increase and until final release is up for change!
header 480x50
house 50x50
XFPanelHome 480x552
alphabar 50x648
the dimensions are based on 800x480 res screen. If someone wants to experiment and give me dimensions for other resolutions, please do so!
If you have any questions about where these images are, let me know and I'll tell you
Good luck and send me the zip with your skins and I'll post the best ones here

I could be a waste of time because the microsoft is developing the app too. If they manage to make the app more usable than the coding of the "new" app was useless.
Guys
Didn't you read my post?
I am not the one developing the app. I am not a developer at all.
I jsut wrote appubator an email asking them to make a new FB app for WinMo (since there was a possibility like this). They have not replied ever since though Maybe they did not like the idea.
Maybe we could something to convince them do do the app OR!
Try to make our own application. This place is crowded with talented and awesome coders and graphics so I think we can definitely put something together. What do you people think?
I am graphic myself - If there are coders who decide to do go for it, I would like to help with visage of the app and the overall design and UI.
Who's in the NewFB_Boat? Any coders?
Introduction to development
Hi,
I've start research on the net and found this.
http://developers.facebook.com/docs/guides/mobile/
Actually there is no SDK for Windows Mobile provide by Facebook only for iphone and android.
But there is a lot of explication about how facebook work.
http://developers.facebook.com/docs/api
So the first thing is to wrote ourself a SDK we can use as a library for our program.
I'm going to search if we can exploit official Facebook library instead.
Dude, you are genius
I wonder why FB guys dont include WinMo...maybe they do not find winmo very profitable?
Maybe somone with good marketing knowledge could shed some light on FB management to make understand why WinMo FB app would be great lol
I ve download everything need to start development. Tomorow i ll take a look at this and post some comment.
i have a funny feeling the only reason they show the APIs for Iphone and Android is because the SDKs are open source.
but i would love a fully functional facebook app that would let me do everything, without the limitations of sense or the WM facebook app

Hi;
I'm one of the founders of appubator.
I really appreciate your interest in our company. Sorry about not responding to your e-mail. We haven't see it come through - which address did you send it to?
We've been following this thread for a while. In short, a deep, detailed app like FB isn't something that we would do. First of all, we likely couldn't charge for it. If we did, its likely that FB or Microsoft would do one better than us and then we're out the time and money to develop it.
We're more about developing many apps (perhaps 100/year), that are smaller and easier to code, and selling them on multiple smartphone platforms.
If you have any ideas for apps you'd like to see - please visit the site at www.appubator.com. Register and submit your ideas. We're reviewing them more quickly and should be able to get back to you pretty quickly with a go/no-go.
Hello igolfchip
I am glad you have responded.
I have sent my APP idea to this address: as it was written in the article about your company.
I fully understand you. Well, at least I gave it a shot
I have only one note though - If MS (or FB) would do a better app than you would, why they still havent made it yet?
Hopefully, we will be able to do something.
@Fredz - glad to hear that This all seems it is moving somewhere
Hi,
I am the developer behind Windows Phone 7's Mockingbird IM application. I have gotten reviews from it, however, I am not currently working on upgrading Mockingbird IM yet.
Instead, I would like to announce a new application being developed by me. As stated in the description of Mockingbird IM, SkyCat will be coming to the marketplace soon.
However, I am in a little dilemma. I really don't know what features you guys liked or disliked on Mockingbird IM, I have given a whole new interface (without themes) to SkyCat. As one of the reviewers stated that the UI was clunky.
SkyCat will be replacing Mockingbird IM as a better IM client and will support multiple IM protocols (AIM, IRC, etc...)
I would love to see some feedback on the application if anyone wants to leave me some, detailed feedback would be nice so SkyCat will be in near perfection by the time it comes out on 10/11/11.
Thank you for reading my post.
Update:
Source has been opened and is available at http://groovyim.codeplex.com
THank you.
Update 2:
The application is now available on Microsoft's App Store, and is fully supported, you can buy it now for a limited time only at $0.99, it will go back to $4.99 on January 15th.
The version available on Codeplex is no longer updated or supported by us, and we do not recommend using it. Please find the latest version on the Microsoft App Store, and if you see any problems with it, please let us know and we will work on fixing it as soon as possible.
UPDATE:
APPLICATION CURRENTLY DISCONTINUED ON WINDOWS PHONE 7; FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY USERS WHO BOUGHT THIS APPLICATION ON WINDOWS PHONE 7 ARE ABLE TO GET IT FOR FREE ON iOS AND / OR ANDROID FOR FREE. PLEASE PROVIDE US PROOF OF PURCHASE, THANKS. PROMOTION ENDS 04/06/12.
Thank you.
Hi,
i just drop in here on my way to somewhere else... not a user of ur prog but very interested in the multi-messenger thing.
on android there is Trillian, which is also available on a select few other OS. I love trillian and the whole concept of it but it doesn't look like them gonna go for WP7.
Now, is your SkyCat supposed to be something like that? Because then i would most defo be interested in using it and would also be willing to test for you (on my wifes Telephone tho hehehe).

Hi,
Thanks for your interest.
I currently only develop for Windows Phone 7, as it is a great operating system. I believe everyone should be switching to Windows Phone 7, but to get that to happen, more programs need to be made available, which is the point of "SkyCat" (Officially named Groovy IM).
I see that the only multi-messenger application currently available for Windows Phone 7 is IM+ and that lacks many features consumers are wanting which is why Groovy IM is going to bring those features into one application for Windows Phone 7 and hopefully be better than our competitors over at IM+.
As trillian's userinterface matches that of Android's, mine will be matching Windows Phone 7. I do have some screenshots to upload today. As some people may be wondering what it will look like, however, be aware, this application is far from finished and I am only taking suggestions (not beta testers) currently for the application.
You can offer suggestions for Groovy IM over this forum (XDA-Developers.com) as I currently do not have a website devoted to Groovy IM.
Please note that only certain features can be shown as of this time and it may not be the final outlook of the program as it can change through out time.
Please see attached images for current design of application...

Hi,
Thanks for your interest in Groovy IM.
The protocols will not use Pidgin's source, however, some of the features included will come from Pidgin.
The supported protocols (as of this time) will be...
AIM / AOL / ICQ / iChat
Facebook
Google Talk
Groovy
IRC
MSN / Window Live
UnfairNET
XMPP / Jabber
Yahoo
We may add or remove some of the above protocols based on suggestions / requests received here.
You will not be forced to sign in with Groovy, however, you can chose to create an account and sign in on your own.
We expect a beta release (for anyone who is interested) to be released around 10/15/11, give or take a few days.
For those who wish to test the program, you may send us a PM and on the beta-release date we will upload our program as a private program to Microsoft's marketplace and release a link to where you can get it from the marketplace.
Thank you for your concern in helping Groovy IM become better.
Hello,
i am unsure if you got my point.
i am currently very busy getting into WP7, which i believe to be a very good OS. I am feeling a big lack of Multi-IM there tho...
Trillian is what i love(d) on pc and Android. Them just seem not to be very keen on getting onto WP7 themselves. So someone else needs do that job.
Obviously you try to.
You requested suggestions. I will try:
Keep facebook simple. Its basically already integrated into wp7, only lacking an interface that shows online buddies. so that'd be the only thing i'd wish for with facebook.
Try to have contacts all in one list no matter what service, but include means of sorting them by e.g service or state or name or both or all.
have a live tile that shows infos like join/part, online/offline msg etc.
make it run in background without dehydrating to keep it active (like whatsapp doesn't yet do - it delays msg when brought to halt).
have a very clear history regulation like have everything logged, have nothing logged, have a cloud-based log (use google cloud for example), have certain services logged, have only certain persons logged etc. Follow principle of: "User Privacy by default" - very, very important these days!
am sure there's more but cant currently think of more. I am rather simplicity- oriented. thats why i love wp7. its very minimal. keep the prog the same way. that'd be cool.

Hi,
Thank you for your concern with Groovy IM.
I agree Windows Phone 7 is a great operating system, however, lacks many features of matured operating systems, including but not limited to Multi-IM clients, better multi-tasking support.
I also believe that applications should stay simple - easy to use, get in, out and information from at the same time.
Facebook Chat will be integrated with a great contacts list supporting it.
I believe sorting by service, name, groups, and status are also great features, and as such, they are being integrated into Groovy IM.
Due to Windows Phone 7 not having true multi-tasking support applications cannot constantly run 24/7 as they can on Android or iOS. You must keep them open to constantly run otherwise Groovy IM will exit Chat Rooms, and log in at a set timeframe checking for offline IM's.
Groovy IM already has support for logging the things you chose and it will give you options to save the logs on your phone or through a cloud service.
Thank you for your interest.
Hi !
Would it be possible to support Skype as well ?
And, it is probably impossible, but could you find a way to keep the Wifi ON, while the phone is in standby ? so the application could keep synchronising even if the phone is in standby mode ?
Thanks

Hi,
Yes it would be possible to support Skype, Skype is planned to be added in a later release (Version 1.2).
The beta release (1.0) will not support Skype, and should be coming soon to those who wish to beta test.
I do not understand what you mean by "standby" mode on the phone. Do you mean when the user / application goes idle and the lock screen comes up? If so, yes, there is a way and a option you can turn on that will keep the application constantly running as long as it is opened and infront of the other apps.
Thanks.
Hi,
I am editing this post because I would like to share some pictures of Groovy IM once again with you all.
I hope these pictures don't make you too anxious for Groovy IM. Please continue suggesting ideas you would like to see in Groovy IM.
Anyway...
This picture is from the Groovy service.
The above image shows how Groovy IM's group chat looks on the Groovy service.
You will be able to change the color on your username of DarkRed to other colors such as DarkBlue, DarkGreen, etc...
Your friends color is based on the phones set theme color.
Thanks.
Kuzcoed,
sounds beautiful. What about the new Mango Multitasking? As i understand, there is a way to keep apps open and alive in the background if the dehydrate-key in the registry is modified to not dehydrate background apps. i understood, this means that the app is kept in working state and does not drain its contents from memory. am i correct?
Thank you for your work.
Yes, it is what i was meaning by "standby". Because, when the lock screen come up, the wifi is automatically switch off (at least on my phone, but i think it is because of wp7 no ?) and so i can't know if i get new messages.
And i agree with Sneakyghost, i think you should keep it simple. To me,it is important that kind of application to start quickly, as i am often switching between many applications.

Thank you for your interest in Groovy IM.
As of this time, there is no official support from Microsoft for full background multitasking, and I do not believe Microsoft will be integrating full background multitasking anytime soon.
As far as dehydration of your phone, I do not recommend it, and I do not believe Microsoft endorses the "hack" either.
I cannot comment on dehydation, as I have little to no information on it.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have not experienced that problem on my test HTC HD7. I cannot comment on your mobile phone as it may have the settings different than mine. If you wish to know more about "standby" mode please contact Microsoft. My application has a option to keep it from going idle however. When it gets sent back to the background it will open a notification thread which checks for IMs often.
Yes, I understand your concern and will try my best to keep the application launching quickly, however, have it have the features you and others want.
Thanks.
Hi,
We are pleased to let you all know Groovy IM is still going smoothly. We are curious to what the users think about one of the ideas our developers want to integrate.
The feature will keep your accounts constantly connected by having you register an account with the Groovy "WP7" service.
The Groovy WP7 service will require you to login to the Groovy WP7 in order to add accounts, connect with your accounts, and constantly keep them logged in and receiving IMs / Chat Messages.
The Groovy WP7 service will be a secured service that will require you to enter your pin number for any modifcations on your account.
Let us know if you will feel safe using this application if we integrate the Groovy "WP7" service, which will store all your accounts, account information, account messages, and more, on our servers.
Thanks.
Well, trillian also did that with their Astra service about a year or two ago. The user concern was very large but finally overcome. Many people are using this cloud based service now to store and retrieve sensitive account data and log files. they had the advantage of a long build reputation of a trustworthy software company. You do not have that yet.you will need to earn that trust with good software. You might want to wait for a later date with this feature. I for sure will not put login-information into any server-structure if I have no proof of its security.

You do not have that yet.you will need to earn that trust with good software. You might want to wait for a later date with this feature. I for sure will not put login-information into any server-structure if I have no proof of its security.

Hi,
Thank you for your interest in Groovy IM.
Yes, I believe we will wait on this feature until more users feel safe about using Groovy IM, or Microsoft allows the application to run even in the background.
Thanks.
We have a new update for everyone here...we would like to show our Aliases now on our buddylist. Please be aware this is not the final version. We have a feature turned on to put all users online under a group named "Online Users" as you can tell.
Please let us know what you guys think.
Thanks.
Hi,
We are pleased to announce another screenshot on Groovy IM.
We are also pleased to announce that the developers behind Groovy IM are stating the application should start being messaged to PMs within the next 6 - 10 days.
Thanks.
Cool. Looking forward!
Are the app colors following the system colors or will we have to live with that red?

Hi,
The background is based on your phone settings (e.g. Light OR Dark).
The background border colors for groups are based on your select Accent Color on your phone (e.g. Blue).
Thanks for your interest.
Hi,
We would like to update you all on the current status of Groovy IM. We have not given up on the project, we are adding more protocols than originally expected for the beta version. We hope you will not mind.
Thanks.
Hi, your idea is very interesting!
I'd like to suggest you a feature, i.e. "virtual contacts". Let's suppose I have various contacts of a friend, being of various or even the same protocol (MSN, private Skype contact, work Skype contact and so on).
It would be beautiful to me to be able to group all this contacts in a single virtual contact, built as an ordered list of each contacts. Communication will happen with the first available protocol "behind the scene".
what do you think about?
If you tried to add a new contact number from the call history, then you would know the simple task of saving a contact number is very frustrating. Maybe the windows phone team was busy making an entertainment device and forgot that people actually use their smart-phone to do phone thing. To demonstrate, let go through the step of adding a contact and find out if your hair will turn gray during the process. Here we go.
On the call history, users can touch the unsaved contact number (I use a fake btw) and they’ll be presented with its profile and history. To save the number to a new contact, just touch that floppy disk button to save. No sweat, lets move on to screen 3.
“Uhhh, wait what’s going on here? I just need to save the number for cutie Jane. What’s all this crazy choose a contact stuff?”
That was the though when I first encountered this “choose a contact” screen. The confusion was that I just want to add a new contact, not “choosing” some contact. The cryptic “+” button eventually gave way, but I was on that screen longer than I should. New users will be confused and that’s the first usability issue that doesn’t need to be there. Lets go on to screen 4.
“Huh!? why do I need to edit phone number? Where can I enter the first and last name for Jane? WTFWP7!”
By this step the users just want to enter the name of their contact and be done with. This screen by all means is unnecessary. The contact number just came straight from call history, there is no need to edit unless you manually add a new contact from the people hub. Let move on to screen 5 and see if we can enter the name for Jane yet.
“I still can’t enter the name for Jane yet!!???? FFFFFFUUUUUUUUU ”
Inputting the name, if not earlier, should be shown at this step. But instead the users are presented with this summary information. Screen 5 shows the summary of all the information of the contact and the users can edit or additional information. This screen should be logically shown last. Raged level 100%.
Finally after 7 screens, the users can enter the contact and be done. It’s unfortunately 7 screens too many, the users are left provoked. There has got to be a better way to do this.
I propose steps reduction
On screen 3, the new contact option stands out at the top making it easier for people to figure out what to do as far as saving a new contact or merging it to existing contact are concerned. On screen 4, basic information like name, phone, and email are available for users to easily edit. The phone text box are pre-filled. This concept reduced two screen steps and it’s much more user friendly I think.
Further steps reduction will eliminate the screen 3 altogether. Follow below.
When the users decide to save the phone number from screen 2, they will immediately be shown the edit information screen where they can edit and save a new contact profile. If the users want to merge the phone number to an existing contact, the link button on the appbar is available. The link button will open up the contact list and allow the users to select the correct contact they want to link the new number to.
I think concept 2 significantly speed up the simple task of saving a contact and therefore also decrease frustration. Belfiore, please do this.
For now, people will still have to keep on wrestling with the ridiculously strenuous task of saving new phone numbers.

New year so I decided to start blogging about windows phone. Going to write about rethinking ads display for windows phone and tiles soon.
Actually I didn't understand why it's more ridiculas process as per you.
Instead of clicking on "New Contact" in your screen, I click "+" on existing design.
You don't have to edit the number in the next screen, but you might need to edit what sort of phone number it's (home/mobile/etc..) and the next screen will give options (which can be made more user friendly, here i accept), but this screen should be there. I don't find myself adding 100 contact everyday. I add new contacts (may be 10) in a week and when I create them, I will be happy to enter complete details or ignore unwanted things.
If you didn't know what the + meant, you could have tapped the ... which would reveal what the icon is for.
That is common behavior in the OS. No less intutive as double tapping the button in the iPhone.
As far as editting. Sometimes you do need to edit. If someone calls from work, it may be one outgoing number but everyone has a direct dial.
(123)555-5500 is what is in call history, but to direct dial you may need (123)555-5518
How do you propose adding several numbers at once?
You get the mobile from caller id, but you also want to add home, work, and home and work email to it
Plus means add. Menus are at the bottom of screens. It doesn't get too much clearer.
I feel the exact same way as the OP. Way too many many steps for such a simple task. Another thing that absolutely bugs the hell outta me is no quick access to the dial pad. I hate having to click that tiny dialer icon on the call history page. I would like a pin to tile feature for the dialer or start on the dialer when clicking the phone tile.
Very humorous post, I feel your pain. Loved your mock ups, wish MS would take note.

Download SmartDialer. There's an app for that.
I feel the same.
Furthermore I really feel bothered by not being able to directly make a new contact out of - by text message - received phone number
As I have to contact and get contacted by quite some new and unknown people every day, it would highly increase the efficiency of my work.
Hope there will be a way to do so, soon.
I like to add the country code properly and the formatting, remove all the (,) and - and replace + with 00. Because the first build of windows phone gave problems with calling otherwise (it would call a wrong number). My settings are on EnUS bc of more features on the phone, but I want my numbers in my local formatting not in EnUS. Hence for me the edit screen works well. Of course you can argue all countries should have all features thus no need for reformatting the number manually.
I like having the edit number screen pop up, because I like to get rid of the "1" that gets placed at the beginning.
I don't see the big deal. The very first time I entered a contact, it was a bit of "oh I see, I push this here", after that, since I'm older than 4 years old, I've remembered how and haven't given it a second thought.
I agree with the OP on this one. In my case, there is also an additional screen asking what service to create the contact on (Windows Live or Google). Necessary, but complicated.
It didn't really dawn on me until I was giving someone who recently got the phone my number and watched them stumble through the process.

Your proposal for "New contact" pseudo-contact on top of the list is non-sense, it breaks design guidelines, and is counter-intuitive. (+) bottom menu icon is there already...
?? Hum ?? It's pretty simple for me.
It seems to me a lot of people are concerning the first three screens, what do you guys think of the rest of the process? That's where all the frustration come for me personally. And my proposals deal mainly with reducing the steps.
Maybe it is just you... Those step are just necessary. I don't mind at all.
???
This is very simple.
Wich steps would u remove ?
1 step gives u the option to add the phone number to an existing one or to create a new one.
The next step lets u choose if its a mobile number or maybe a work number or maybe...
Then u get the option to edit all contact details. Maybe u want to add an email or more.
These steps are totally necessary and they should stay the way they are. The Dialpad klicking should be reduced though.

Should not need an app for that. A phone should go to the dialer when you lick "Phone" not call history. Apps are good, but they should not be a fix for bad design. Simply give the user an option. What pane do you want the phone to go to when you open up the Hub. I'm sure a majority of people would instantly switch that to dialer, too...

You lick your phone? Disgusting. But yeah, Microsoft should redesign that part. I for one would prefer the dialer opening up on tappig "Phone" with call history as an additional button (could replace the current dialer button then).
This is offtopic anyway.
Topic: I see no issues with adding contacts, to be honest. It's simple and works just fine. All I wish was that one was able to add contact information from within an email (from the footer for example).
I completely dissagree with the OP. The plus icon is very apparent to me. All buttons that add/remove/etc are always in the appbar. Then yes you get the option to add their name, email, set a ringtone, etc. I usually add all of that at the same time. Microsoft actually did research as to what most people what to do.
Tap # -> Save -> Plus -> Windows Live (I have a boat load of emails so lets just say I only live Windows Live) -> Save the actual number (great because we get the option to save it as a mobile, home, home 2, work, company, pager, fax and stuff which is great when you use the tell me service) -> And OMG OH NOES I can add their email and name and address while I'm at it (the world is going to end. what a world. I'm melting.) - > and then Save.
Yes it seems like a lot but who care. Most people only go into the contacts once and maybe twice. It really isnt that hard.
It took me a whole 20 seconds to do what I said above. Added a new number, set it as a work #, added first and last name, saved.
sure haven't said:

Absolutely agree with this. I actually don't mind the way Microsoft implemented saving a new contact in the OS... it takes me seconds to add a contact. Hit save > hit + > edit the number if you need to (I don't call international directly so I like to take out the +1) > change number type (mobile or home) > save > add name and/or other info > save and done!
Although, I could see the ease of the "Screen 4" concept. Those are the most edited contact details and to have them on one screen would make it easier. You could email the Windows Phone Team your mock-up and explain your reasoning. Maybe they'll like it too and then you could tell the whole world how it was YOUR idea!

i am fine with the way the add contact in the wp7... most likely MS want to make sure right info is keyed in to the right place... and one thing at a time the os do not have to check for 10 veriable in the saved info (alpha, numaric, free info boxetc...)
as i am using my out look to add my contact and update them to my windows live account so no issues..
Thanks OP. Im glad I'm not the only one that always get frustrated with adding a new contact everytime.
Only when adding a number to an existing FB contact then its much easier.
