Most Android devices cannot dual boot, and it is not possible to run an OS on external storage.

You could just move your apps back to internal memory and then swap out the card and reformat.
I think its even easier:
Dismount SD card, remove and insert in PC, copy its contents and then copy them to your new card. Insert new card.
That's what I did when I formated my card when I was suspicious it had errors. No need to move data to memory.

Android and SD Card

I've searched but been unable to find an answer to this.
I have an Android app that requires SD card space. When I launch it, it gives me a message that it needs at least 50MB free on a memory card. Is it not possible to have Android recognize an SD card since it's running off of one presently? Are there any solutions to emulate an additional SD card?

Does not work will not work.
Swap your memory if you are rooted.
JellyBean does not support apps to sd.
In futere wil be possible when rom development is going on.
you can bind your gamedata folder to sd card so additional data is stored on ext sd card.

How do I bind it? Can u guide.
samsungs default is to save apps to the sd card (internal) partition. they share it. i think that's how google has also made it from ICS on out. so there's no point really.
I have app2sd on my ns4g on jellybean so it can't be because of jellybean?

Need Help Backing up Phone

Hi, I've recently entered the world of modding, and as such, need to back up my phone. I am currently running a Samsung Galaxy S III with only 3 gb of internal memory left, and I'm using Cyanogenmod 12.1. I want to backup my phone to my 64 gb external SD card, but my custom recovery (TWRP) can't find it. Do you guys have any suggestions as to how I can backup to my external SD card? Thanks!
P.S. Does anyone know how to move TWRP to my external SD card? It takes up 4 gb of space on my measly 16 gb of internal storage. Thanks in advance!

any file manager with root access should allow you to move your twrp backups to extSD. es file explorer is my go to , but there are many out there.

Does the phone have the latest version of TWRP installed? Is the card formatted as fat32?
Yes, make sure you're on the most recent TWRP, 2.8.7. At least one of the other 2.8 series of TWRP releases had some issues with external SD cards on my phone.

Considering ib haven't modified the external SD yet, I think it's still exfat. Do I need to modify it to FAT32?

Yes, I'm running 2.8.7.
Sorry, I don't have any cards larger than 32 GB and they are all formatted as fat32. TWRP reads and writes to them with no problem.

There is a spot you can touch towards the bottom of the screen, it's right above the compression and md5sum check boxes. It lets you pick between internal and external storage.
