Question Recovery mode forgot pin code - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

Hi,
I'm trying to wipe userdata on a Fold 4 because I can't remember the pin code. I tried power button + volume down. Then at boot power + volume up but it doesn't work. Now I found out that the phone needs to connected through USB cable to either another smart device or a computer. I'm fixing this for a family member that doesn't live with me. But will come to visit me during the weekend. Can someone please confirm this? That in order to get in to recovery mode without pin is to have it connected to a PC? Do I need to install the Samsung phone drivers on the PC too? Much appreciated for an answer. Cheers!

The Fold4 international devices, F936B, do need to be connected via a USB data cable as this video shows...
Drivers are not needed.
Other models such as the U.S. F936U & F936U1 do not need the USB connection to boot in to Recovery Mode.

Great thanks! I hope this is the international version of the phone.

If not the F936B, follow the same procedure but without the cable.
To determine the model, go to...
Settings > About phone > Model name

That's just the thing I can't bypass the screen lock. But the procedure didn't work without cable and I'll look at the box what model it is. Thank you very much!

No worries. If it is the international, F936B, model it will work with the USB, if not, it will work without it.

SGH-i747m only boots to recovery mode with 16gb sd card

Hello, I purchased a phone off kijiji fully knowing it was not functional - For the 40 dollars my curiosity got the best of me; and if I can fix it well I can get myself a new phone for cheap. I was informed that this phone: Samsung Galaxy sgh-i747m had the latest update (not custom rom). The phone suddenly would not boot past Samsung logo and by the time I bought it, would not boot up at all. So after doing extensive research I decided I would give the 16gb class 10 sd card boot a chance. While somewhat of a success, the only thing it boots me to is this.
BOOT RECOVERY MODE (IN GREEN)
CHECK BOOT PARTITIONS
COPY FROM T-FLASH
BOOT RECOVERY
WRITE 159488 SECTORS
FLASH WRITE FAILURE (RED)
ODIN MODE (RED)
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747M
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: NONE
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 0
BOOTLOADER AP SWERV: 1
I should note that with the debrick-SGH-I747M-UEMK5 image that I used, the phone will boot to recovery mode without holding any buttons(While Plugged in). It will also boot to recovery if it is unplugged and I simply hold and release the power button when I feel the vibrate. I have also tried volume down + home + power. Same thing. If I take the sd card out I cannot get any sign of life / no recovery mode.
The computer does not see the device at all, even in device manager as a random name. There are no signs of life on the computer end. ODIN also does not detect it even when in boot recovery mode. Will not boot to download mode. A red light comes on if I pull the battery out and plug in the usb cable.
Do you have access to a USB jig to see if you can get into download mode?

No, I was contemplating making one or ordering one online but was unsure if that would make any difference. But I am willing to try anything even if there is a slight possibility it could work.
Where are you located? I recall seeing a thread on XDA about people that has a USB job for use by other XDA members.

I'm in Toronto which doesn't help you right now. Maybe order a USB jib and see what happens.
If you decide to sell the phone, let me know as I need to try and repair a phone that has a defective lcd and digitizer.

Will do. Going to build jig today and test it out
Another solution may be to have the firmware flashed via jtag.
You should be able to flash with Odin from there if I'm not mistaken. (Been a long time since I've been through this part myself). You may need to try different drivers, different cables, usb ports, etc.

Yea I didn't want to have to go that route if possible as my goal was to gain experience and knowledge from this little project. If I got the phone working then I would just replace my old Samsung infuse. I made the USB Jig using the 301K ohm's and it still does not work. I know the jig works because I tested it on my wife sgh-i747m and also on my infuse. Both of which boot into download mode immediately. My concern is there is something wrong with the main board because it really doesn't seem like it was rooted at all.
I am just going to see what I can get for it at this point, I paid 70 so would be looking to get at least 60

I have tried 5 different cords, and two different computers on all usb ports. Nothing
You said it'll boot recovery, is it stock or a custom one? Also, are you familiar with ADB?
When you plug it into the computer, is it detected by odin? If so, what does it say in the message box when you try to flash?
Look in device manager too. What does it detect the device as?

You have the Canadian version of the s3? Will you phone boot into download mode without the sd card installed?
Sorry, I have the SGH-i747. The phone only boots with the SD card and just stays in download mode. Odin doesn't recognize it.

What was the last stock ATT ROM on the phone? Can the phone boot into download mode without the external SD card?
When you connect the phone to you computer in download mode, are you prompted to install drivers? If you are using Windows, any unrecognized devices in device manager?
And don't forget to try different cables and every USB port on the computer. Cables go bad much more easily than most people think, and many charging cables cannot be used for data transfer.
I've seen a number of times where people found that only one of the USB ports would allow it to connect.
You might also want to try several different driver versions. (I'd start with the oldest that was release along with the S3.) You can find several in the link in my signature.

[Q] Cannot Restore G3 To Stock Using Flash Tool

I tried to use a volume fix by changing the values in some system files on my rooted G3, rebooted and got stuck at the LG Bootlogo. Been trying lots of things, finally used this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799647 but the flash tool fails at 14 seconds saying failure to enter download mode. I have a D851C on T-Mobile, it is in download mode when I run the program and no change occurs on the screen save for the text log at the bottom. Upon booting into DL mode, it says USER B94. After unplugging and plugging it back in to start the unroot it changes to USER S0.0 AS0.0 B94 UHS then on the next line S U LG-D851 04.4.2 Hrev_10 and the next D85110c. It takes a good 50 seconds for the flash tool to change from saying awaiting connection, and then at 14 seconds it looks like the photo. The names of the dll and tot I am using are, respectively:
LGD851_20140611_LGFLASHv160
LGD851AT-01-V10c-310-260-JUN-20-2014+0
Yes I have set the port to 41 in device manager.
What the heck is wrong?
Someone please help I was supposed to fly out of state today but now I don't think I can without a phone and I can't afford a new one, I'm a student
Did you put your phone in download mode? It's not broken you just need to successfully flash it. It says download mode failed so here's a simple way to enable it if you ate having trouble. Pull out the battery then hold volume down and put it back it and plug in the cable. This should be done in a relatively fast manner to enable it if you are having issues getting into download mode.
Edit I know you said you put it in DL mode but I had a similar issue with my F400S so its worth a try.

edit: my dl mode is working perfect. I see in your Flashtool, your error is slightly different. mine gets stuck at 93%. Then it reboots back to this

PC Suite won't recognize it if you don't use the correct version. The latest from LG's site is in fact the wrong version. You need the version that's about 223mb in size. Sorry, I'm not sure of the version and am currently busy fixing my phone with it, so can't check. Perhaps someone would kindly supply you with a download link.

Did you try a different USB port on your computer? Drivers get honked up easily using flashing tools and sometimes using a different port, or even a different USB cable can fix your problem. More likely another usb port, but I've also had a bad cable as well.

That's the problem is the only cable that works is the one that came with it, and I've used 3 of my 4 on my laptop, so I doubt it's the port

Also you have to realize the phone doesn't turn on. I get the LG logo, download mode, or factory reset. That's it
If that is the only cable that works - my guess is there's something probably wrong with the micro usb jack on your phone.. it shouldn't be that finicky where only 1 of 4 cables would work. If you do a warranty return, you might get lucky anyways. Several folks have posted on XDA that the stores where they returned phones were either clueless or didn't care about the status of the root code. Of course, YMMV.

You misunderstand: The cable that comes with the G3 is the only one GUARANTEED to work with these operations. Has nothing to do with the jack. Getting a new one in the mail tomorrow, can't tell if it's rooted if they can't access the filesystem

No Download Mode!!

I am trying to go to download mode with my G3 ( mobile is working fine ) but when I press and hold Volume up and connect USB cable to PC, the phone turns on and boots normally.
I noticed even in normal situation if I turn off my mobile and try charging while it's off, it turns on automatically!
Any comments how I can go to download mode?
I have lost the original USB cable coming with the device. Can it be the reason? Is LG G3 usb cable special?

It's so weird to me. This is my first mobile phone with such a problem. I've tried all possibilities. USB 2.0, different cable, different pc, different OS. All I get is a restart when I hold down the up key and connect the cable! I have bought this D855 from Hong Kong and it's on rooted stock 10b and all I get from my 4G sim is E (EDGE) while I have activated lte in mobile network menu. So, trying another official rom is critical to me.

It's on stock as without download mode, I can't flash any rom or recovery.
It's more weird when even ADB can't send phone to Download mode. When I enter "adb reboot download", mobile is only rebooted.
By the way, I wonder if it's also so for you that when phone is off, if you connect charger, device is turned on! I remember when I had Samsung, when mobile was off and I connected charger, a battery icon showing the charge progress appeared only.

I asked about what recovery you had.. cous I had a similar problem with my samsung s3.. when phone off and conect cable the phone starts up. That depended on some bad recovery. Also on my old Htc desirehd things like that happened. But i dont have any deep knowleage about this..
Have you tried to use Lg's official update tool. Under that app you could update phone after a bad update. (Via the menu in app) It would be my next try.. that resets the whole phone but it could be the cure. Take a backup of the internal sd first.

Need Some Clarifications

Hi all,
After reading many posts i got a little confused and i'm not getting any result. Please help.
What i want?: Flash stock rom and later consider rooting, and flashing haden or lineagos. (already found guidance but..)
The issue?: It doesn't get recognized through USB with my PC. (drivers installed, cable connected but...)
My questions? (correct me if wished):
1) In Odin mode (which i enter) is the usb port enabled by default? or it depends on the phone configuration.
2) In recovery mode i still cannot see the phone through the USB so is it open by default on stock recovery?
3) Finally can i flash stock rom i downloaded from sammobile through SD card? i found that to be my last resort but i think odin actual proper way or not?
I first thought it was the cable...since is not the original but it seems not be the case...which leads me to think its the phone's usb port....but with the cable i can charge the phone although i cannot see it through my PC.
So bottom line if the answer to my questions are that is always open (accesible through usb port) then it HAS to be the cable right?
If last quesiton is possible then i will conclude my searchings to be ended for now.
Thanks to all the posts within this tree.
Findings
Is it normal that when boot to bootloader from stock recovery the ADB console keeps <waiting for device> while phone actually boots normaly?
I found that bootloader booting is accesible through fastboot independently from USB debugging option...
I'm considering buying official usb cable but store guy confirmed it works for data/power uses...
There definitely is a way to flash stock via TWRP, i once did that myself. However you need a dedicated tool on the PC to create a flashable zip, because the firmware can't be flashed by itself
Edit: i saw that you have FRP-lock enabled. Search for a guide on how to disable it and try again

Are you on Samsung? If so, they don't have fastboot. Nor can you boot to bootloader. Do
Do you have the drivers installed? I have yet to see an unofficial cable not work for data transfer. Excepting damaged ones.

I Cannot Help You Fix Your Phone
Sorry
Samsung always does crap different. They integrated the nasty vertified boot but does not enable fastboot mode which allows disabling it. At least as far my knowledge reaches, your phone is just to me a fancy, glowing paperweight, although I know telling you that is heartbreaking.
Your options could really get up to:
Find, some other posts related, or senior members and developers who are helpful, or Google 'vertified boot Samsung bypass' as a last hope.
Define your A50 as obsolete, (maybe cry for your money then) sell it on ebay as 'parts / unfixable'. If you need the data protected, sell the body, screen, battery and dispose the motherboard in some known environmentally friendly way.
I don't recommend putting your hopes off, so I will provide some related posts from now on.
If you wanna get the data back, there is a (kind of hard) way to do it.
Unsolder your emmc chip and solder it onto a usb drive.
Also, replacing the EMMC storage chip may help as the corrupted data will be replaced, and maybe that is the answer of the problem but that requires high soldering skills which puts off most people.
