I can't allow debugging on my phone because it's plugged into the PC and when I unplug it and plug in the mouse to press Yes the prompt would go
Also, double-clicking the scrcpy executable flashes a terminal window really quickly then exits

Hi guys!
Haven't been here for a long time but now I need help or guidelines for the problem:
I got HTC Desire with shattered screen - LCD and digitizer. It lights up but no image.
Phone connects to computer as Adnroid Phone on Mac and USB Mass Storage Device on Windows so I assume the USB Developer mode s not enabled.
Is there any chance of recovering contacts without screen replacement?
Thanks!

You can't assume that usb debugging isn't enabled just because it connects to the PC as a hard drive. Try using "adb devices" to see if your device is properly configured for adb.
Thanks,
Already done that but I forgot to mention... I get empty "List of devices attached".
When I connect another phone with Debugging Mode enabled "adb devices" lists connected device without any problems.
Any other ideas?

Adb should work in recovery. Boot in recovery, connect your phone and try "adb devices" again.
My Windows 10 notebook could detect the MiMax through its File explorer : I could view all phone contents in internal memory and ext SDcard
BUT using Mi PC Suite software, the phone just couldn't be connected to it - I had selected USB connection as MTP
When I booted the phone into EDL mode, the PC also failed to detect the phone and I just could not select the Qualcomm drivers too
I'd appreciate any help on this
I have the same problem, although adb and fastboot work just fine, I have not been able to get into edl mode, that I can discern. No red flashing light or other indicator. Thought maybe I'd unlock it and see if that helps.
I've read everything I can find and there are 4 different ways to go into edl mode: adb, fastboot, holding volume +/- while inserting usb connected to pc and connected device while holing volume +/- and power, wait for vibration, let loose of power for next vibration, but none work on my device.
I find I have to toggle the usb connection between mtp and whatever then back to mtp to get file access and I wonder if that has something to do with my irregularities.
Not a big deal (pun??) as I love the phone. This has replaced my note 5. Love the size and performance is comparable.

Hi all!
I recently dropped my OP3 and now i have a black screen and touch screen doesn't work. The phone is still on and operating (i tried calling it from another phone and it works). I want to recover data but apparently i have usb debug off and i tried connecting a keyboard with an OTG but apparently i had to activate OTG from phone, otherwise it doesn't recognizes it.
Do you know any method to recover data?
My last chances are repairing the screen myself to avoid the assistence erase all the data, or transfer my motherboard to another OP3, but do you know any other method before these two above?
Thank you

Most likely the connector has become loose (since you have not said anything about the screen being broken) and you can try to reconnect it by yourself.
Another alternative is to see if adb is working and your PC is authorised. If so, you can use the 'adb pull /sdcard' command to copy your data to the PC.
Alternately, search with Google since I remember reading about a method to mirror your screen and then using the mouse to enable whatever you want.

I'll check the connector but the screen has some cracks (tho i've seen screens in worse condition then mine work).
And i can't use the mouse because OTG is not on, on other phones you don't need to give permission to use OTG but on mine you have to,

What about adb? That is the easiest.
I am not talking about connecting the mouse to the phone through OTG. I am talking about using the PC's mouse to manipulate the cursor to the point where you want it on your PC's screen where your mobile screen is mirrored.

I think you are referring to Vysor, but i can't use it with debugg off again. Edit: I see that there are other apps like that but for most of them you have to install them on the phone, i'll search a bit more tho.
As for ADB i tried before with another phone with debug off and adb doesn't see the phone, i'll try with my broken phone but i don't think it will be different.

Just now, I switched off USB debugging in my OP3 and connected it to the Laptop. While the command 'adb devices' does not find the phone, as soon as it is connected, it shows up as a storage device and I can open it and copy data. I think that for this to work, you should have enabled MTP option for file transfer.
Check this on your phone.
EDIT: Check THIS as there seems to be a way though I am not sure that it works on current Android versions since the file locations may be different. Read till the end.
My phone goes in charging mode when connected to pc, and pc doesn't see it.
Did you do that through recovery mode?

No. Tried it while booted.
Now I tried on recovery mode. Still I get it as a storage device and I can copy data.
So most probably your phone is stuck on charging and not on MTP.

I believe so, every time I connected it to pc i had to switch manually from charging to recovery.
I guess my best solution is to buy a screen replacement and repair it myself

From what i can remember, the recovery mode, accessible from the fastboot menu, has a usb access mode.
If worst comes to worst though, i personally have replaced the screen on my OP3, and its not as difficult as it seems or is made out to be. Took me max 4 hrs.
Strange issue. After applying the Feb 2019 security patch over air, my phone is no longer recognizing when it is plugged into a PC. I plug into my PC and I get a charge symbol on my battery but no pull down option to switch from charging to USB mode. Things I've tried:
1. New Cable although the wife has a Pixel 3 (standard) that works with this cable and computer just fine.
2. Different PC
3. Toggling USB debugging
4. Changing the USB setting in developer mode to transfer
5. When I plug a USB stick into the phone using the USB-C to USB-A adapter, the phone recognizes the stick and I can browse files
6. "Cleaning" the USB-C port
7. Also booted into safe mode (which I would assume should be like a factory reset) but no USB.
8. Switched between USB 3 and USB 2 ports on the PC.
It seems to me that there's a software issue with the Feb update that messed with the usb settings. I called google and they just want me to factory reset my device before they will transfer me to tech support. I'm avoiding that because I don't want to go back through the time/trouble of resetting up my phone. Any tips/tricks I've missed here?
If you have a Google variant with the BL unlocked, flash the factory image with the -w removed from the flash-all batch file. That way, you won't lose data. If you are on the Verizon variant or don't want to unlock you BL, sideload the OTA from stock recovery. See if it cleans up your issue. Also, sounds like you might have a driver issue on your PC. Easier to fix that first if it is the issue.
I have the February update over the air and I had no issues connecting to my Chromebook (crouton) via USB to pull an APK with ADB. I did have to turn USB debugging back on (not sure if I turned it off or if it was turned off from an update) and change the connection type, it was set to charging only.
More info this morning. I have an Android based car stereo that when I plugged my phone into this morning, I did get the USB drop down. So it seems to be a windows 10 problem. I have both a Surface pro 4 and a desktop running windows 10 that are fully up to date that show the same symptoms. I don't know how I'm going to sideload an update if I can't connect it to my computer.
1. What I don't understand is why the Pixel 3 would work and the Pixel 3 XL would not. Same driver set, no?
2. Also, PC with Windows 7 also has same issue.

Try putting the phone into Fastboot mode and use the command "fastboot devices" to see if it is recognized. If it is, then the problem is on the ADB side, which is part of the Android system.
If it can connect via Fastboot, it's less likely to be a driver issue. You can try "adb devices" too with the phone booted to see if it is recognizing it all. May need to toggle through the various connection modes, I believe I used PTP the last time, but not certain.
As for sideloading, you will need the phone to be recognized by either ADB or Fastboot. You can sideload an OTA update from Recovery with a locked bootloader or as @sliding_billy said you can unlock the bootloader and flash the factory image which is done via Fastboot.
I would also verify that you have the latest version of the Android SDK installed just to cover that base.

You don't need to be in file transfer mode to connect via fastboot. Check connection from there after using the combo keys to get into fastboot (power/vol down) for the factory image or one step further into recovery for sideload.
Neither Fastboot devices or ADB devices lists a device. When put in fastboot and recovery, my device manager on either computer does not register that there is a device connected.

Sounds like you have attempted everything... New cable (but rereading I don't see where you tried using a C>A cable instead of a C>C and that definitely needs tried). New computer/port/OS. Direct connect to fastboot. I think you are going to need to backup to the cloud (at least you have a functional device with internet) and factory reset the device.
P.S. I just thought about this, but do you have the current platform tools (ADB/Fastboot)? https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html

Sadly I don't have a computer with a USB C port. I have been using only cables with C>A. I downloaded the latest platform tools yesterday before trying fastboot/adb. I'm waiting for a call back from Google tier 2 tech support within 72 hours. If anything comes of it, I will report back here.

Good luck!
Hello xda'ers
I have the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, however I want to use the scrcpy github . com / Genymobile / scrcpy utility it says it cannot detect the phone.
ADB Setup and its drivers have been correctly installed.
USB debugging has been enabled in the phone.
But the ADB cannot detect the phone.
It still is not working, so I went into the phone, developer options and go to USB Debugging, Security settings, and toggle that on, but it asks for a Mi Account?, which I do not have.
Please help.
Might as well sign up for that Mi account, because you need the (security settings) toggle turned on if you want to control the device via scrcpy. What does it tell you when you enter the command adb devices ? Did you get the popup asking for confirmation on whether you want to allow the PC to access debugging when you connected the phone via USB? Also make sure MTP/PTP/whatever else isn't turned on.
It's odd, executing adb devices gave an unauthorized message on the computer console, but the security confirmation never appeared on the phone up until some hours ago. I authorized the connection and voila I can now see the phone's screen on desktop PC via scrcpy, however.....
The screen just freezes, I mean, I cannot interact with it on the computer. If I unblock the phone manually and interact with it, the screen refreshes properly on the desktop, alas this is an issue with scrcpy not with the phone or ADB. Maybe I should file a bug or search their site?
Again, you have to enable the (security settings) toggle in your developer options if you want to control your device from the computer. This is mentioned on the Readme on scrcpy GitHub already.
Found solution:
1. Enable USB debugging
2. Run any terminal as root
3. setprop persist.security.adbinput 1
. That's all, nothing else is required
