[Q] [HELP] Recovery needed, broken LCD! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
Haven't been here for a long time but now I need help or guidelines for the problem:
I got HTC Desire with shattered screen - LCD and digitizer. It lights up but no image.
Phone connects to computer as Adnroid Phone on Mac and USB Mass Storage Device on Windows so I assume the USB Developer mode s not enabled.
Is there any chance of recovering contacts without screen replacement?
Thanks!

You can't assume that usb debugging isn't enabled just because it connects to the PC as a hard drive. Try using "adb devices" to see if your device is properly configured for adb.

Thanks,
Already done that but I forgot to mention... I get empty "List of devices attached".
When I connect another phone with Debugging Mode enabled "adb devices" lists connected device without any problems.
Any other ideas?

Adb should work in recovery. Boot in recovery, connect your phone and try "adb devices" again.

Force USB Debugging

Hi all,
I have dropped and destroyed the screen. Hooking up to the computer I noticed on one occasion that the device showed up when doing a ./adb devices. However since then it hasn't done it. I know that USB Debugging is turned off.
Is there anyway to force it on, say booting it into recovery mode?
I could do with access to the shell before I send it off for repair.
Cheers,
Jodi

Connect Desire to laptop, not recognised!

When I connect my HTC Desire through USB cable to my laptop, my laptop wait a while then pop a windows which says USB Device Not Recognised. My device just got the orange light lit up but there is no response other than that i.e. no menu pops up to choose "charge only, disk drive" whatsoever.
It worked just two days ago before I reflash a new ROM (RCMixHD 3.6.1).
During the flash, the SD card was not recognised too so I tried to get it work by using "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" as instructed by one post named "USB brick/rickrolled/b0rked -> FIXED!" on MoDaCo.
But I did not flash the update.zip as required cos my problem was fixed before this step.
Can anyone help me fix this problem? Waiting online
USB debugging still enabled?
What result from either adb or fastboot?
Code:
fastboot devices
adb devices
FASTBOOT shows "FASTBOOT USB", Bootloader also gives me "HBOOT USB PLUG", I think the USB cable is fine.

I tried the two commands in cmd, I copy down what it gives me
E:\SDK\Tools> adb devices
List of devices attached
E:\SDK\Tools> fastboot devices
HT05HPL12963 fastboot
E:\SDK\Tools>
Ok so the fastboot result means you can connect to PC.
What happens if you connect your device whilst it's booted up with USB debugging enabled? Enable this prior to connecting in settings>applications>development.
Hi thanks for the help, I managed to unbrick the USB brick. But now even though I'm able to connect to my laptop, the adb devices still doesn't give me any device. In device manager, I got an "ADB" with yellow exclamation mark under “Other Devices”, just cannot get the right driver for it. Could it be due to the USB brick?

[Q] Broken HTC Desire, unauthorized on adb. What are my options? Please help

So I have my girlfriend's water-damaged HTC Desire 620 and am trying to recover some data not stored anywhere else. The screen works and the phone boots but digitiser does not work. It will charge and connecting to my PC it recognises it as an MTP device that is empty. The phone is locked, there's no custom recovery and adb debugging is not enabled. My attempts to resolve so far are:
1. New digitiser/digitiser+screen assembly failed - I assume the connector is faulty.
2. OTG cable with mouse - mouse doesn't work, light doesn't come on. Cable/mouse aren't faulty as checked with own phone.
3. Android SDK / adb - when booted normally, no adb devices are recognised at all. When I boot in recovery it recognises a device but it is unauthorised. As I have zero access to the phone itself, I can't physically enable debugging on it.
So that's as far as I've gotten. From what I gather, without the device being authorised I won't be able to get adb to work. I am way out of my depth at this point but any help would be amazing. Even just to know if this really is a lost cause or not.
Thanks

Ok... Since I have no intention to root until Huawei pushes the Oreo and Facial Recognition updates, I have kept USB Debugging "OFF" and set Select USB Configuration to: Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)
Then, I attempted to do what you are trying to do... and it worked perfectly..
So.. Do This:
Step 1 Click on your windows icon and in the search bar type "CMD"
Step 2 Set USB Configuration to MTP.
Step 3 Again I had Debugging off.. you can try it with it on if you like.. either way turn off your device.
Step 4 Hold down the Vol-Down button while plugging your device into your USB cable connected to your computer.
Step 5 This will turn on your device and put you in Fastboot Mode.
Step 6 Now go to your ADB Command Line and type "fastboot devices"
You'll see it.....

Issues recovering data [adb] & not showing in 'This PC'

Hello, my Oneplus 3 finally met its maker when it slid off my knee as I was doing a poo. This phone had served me well for a long time and was used for the last year without a functioning power button.
Today I was trying to extract my data from the phone using adb. However, I have a few issues.
The screen is fully black and shattered and digitizer appears to also be broken.
I can use the fingerprint sensor, but not much else. If I try to apply pressure to the screen, the device disconnects from the computer then reconnects.
My phone will not show in 'My PC' and just shows as 'android' under 'USB devices' in Device Manager, I try to update the driver through this and I am just assigning it to be an 'ADB device' or 'Oneplus Android ADB Interface' which does not help.
I have downloaded the Oneplus USB drivers and installed them which did not help or allow me to select those as driver updates in 'device manager'. Even after turning off signed driver checks in boot options.
I believe I have USB debugging on, as I turned it on not long ago due to the power button failing. But when I attempt to use ADB I either get 'unauthorised' or 'offline' beside my devices serial number.
I have tried unlocking my device with my fingerprint and it has the response vibration but does not allow me to access it.
Ideally I would like it to work with '[email protected]' and 'android control' but I would settle for just being able to pull everything off the device. I have been reading threads and trying fixes all day to no avail. Please help me.

If you had used adb before and the phone was recognised earlier, then there shouldn't be an issue. If not, then when issuing adb commands, there will be a popup on the phone asking you to enable authorisation and to make it permanent. In your current scenario, you will not be able to grant authorisation. Your drivers might be installed properly but because of this "authorisation" issue, the phone might not be recognised properly.
Search for methods to pull data from the phone. I had read about a couple of methods where you can mirror your screen on the PC which will solve the problem for you. Unfortunately I am not able to recollect where I read that.
EDIT: Enter fastboot mode on your phone and connect it to the PC. Then using 'fastboot boot twrp.img' you can boot into TWRP on the phone and access the files and copy them using adb commands. This requires the TWRP in the same folder as your adb tools or vice versa and renaming the file as TWRP. I don't know whether this also requires 'authorisation' but try it any way.
