6.2.7.1
Kodi/Emby/Plex work fine, HBO Max/Netflix say they can't play it, Prime Video only plays audio.
I didn't read anything about the rooting process hindering your ability to watch anything on a streaming stick.
Still looking for a ROM that can pass do audio passthrough.

So yesterday I noticed that when I tried to stream a movie through google play movies & tv only the audio would play (oddly enough the info cards still come up along with the closed captioning). I can however download movies/shows and they will play and the trailers in the app will stream and play video but nothing that I own will play video. I've tried switching between awesome player and nuplayer and nothing. Installed Movies & TV 3.7 and still nothing.
I'm running a Cyanogenmod 12 nightly so I'm guessing/hoping the cause is a bug in one of the nightlies. If not is it possible that google might be blocking the video? I find it suspicious that the trailers in the app will stream and play fine but nothing else will. Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips other then changing the ROM?
Make sure you haven't got Display HW overlays ticked in Developer Settings.
Can the Fire Stick TV Stream local 1080p MKV on Kodi app without any buffering issues? I'm thinking of getting one mainly for Kodi use?
It's going to depend on your wireless. My stick is about 25ft from my router, diagonally through one floor/ceiling, and the best I've measured with the Speedtest.net app is about 52Mbps, but my router is kind of flaky and the worst I've measured is 1-2Mbps.
If you know the stick will be very close to your router, I would go for it; if it's going to be a couple of rooms away and you are thinking about full bluray rips (20-40Mbps), I think you will see buffering problems.

I tried a 1080p mkv on my Fire TV Box with 1GB LAN and for me it sometimes doesn't play smoothly or while in the Movie it starts to get out of sync with Audio. When I pause the Movie or rewind/fast forward it might be in sync until the issue happens again when using Kodi.
This might depend on how the mkv is decoded? I tried one mkv with 1080p and a dts Audio Stream. The experience might be worse with Wifi but I guess it really depends on how the mkv is decoded. Maybe if it's with Stereo Audio, etc. then it would work smoothly?
On the other hand I don't have those issues with Netflix or Amazon Instant Video but I assume mkv needs a lot of encoding power (Fire TV hardware and network).

Do you wanna transfer MKV videos into XBMC? As to dealing with MKV videos, the best software I have used is Brorsoft MKV Converter, which is fully support MKV videos into common video formats for playing and editing. In addition, it can keep the subtitle for your MKV files if your MKV videos contain subtitle information. You can have a try. Good luck!
Hello All,
Apologies for asking it here but it is in a way related to OP3 as well. So i will buy a new LCD TV next week probably. And chromecast seems like a great gadget to have. So, my queries are to people who already own chromecast and OP3/Laptop.
1. Would i need internet connection to stream offline content like my videos and tv shows downloaded or it can't stream those?
2. Will it stream just the video or both Audio/Video to the LCD? I am asking this cause i would want to listen the audio through the headphones but the video via chromecast streaming. Is it possible? (You know why i need these "private" moments sometimes, lol)
3. Does it only work with specific applications + Chrome Browser or can i stream a file playing on VLC player to the LCD as well?
I followed the Forum Rules and searched but can't find anything on what surely must be a very frequently asked question.
I got a 3-month free trial of Google Play Music. Works fine on my phone so bought a chromecast audio and connected to amp+speakers, now I can cast and streamed music works as expected. BUT having unplugged my local media player I can no longer listen to my local media.
It's inconvenient having to plug and unplug all the time. How do I hack the chromecast audio device to stream from local machines as well as from Google Play Music?
Bubble upnp

It will stream a PC's audio to chromecast
The easiest solution if probably just to upload your music to Google Play Music. This will also allow you to initiate playback using a Google Home if you ever buy one.
it doesn't support directly playing local tracks, it requires uploading music to your library for playback.

Hi, I´m purchasing a Fire Tv Stick 2 soon and I´d like to know if it suits my needs.
I plan to use apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Plex and Kodi. I know performance can be disappointing given the hardware but Chromecast got me used to stream my contents from the phone so I wouldn´t suffer AFTV´s interface lag. How does it behave in that regard?
Does Kodi support auto refresh rate? (If I recall correctly from a quick search on google, it worked fine before Fire OS 6)
Thanks
I have been using my firestick gen 2. Unrooted, stock launcher, for about 2 days. I have Kodi, popcorn time, etc. I haven't turned my satellite on since. I haven't noticed lag, but if you plan on streaming it's like Chromecast without casting.

The fire stick doesn't support auto refresh rate switching, so no luck there. Plex works very good, as long as you play only Full HD videos, of course 4k is not supported (Plex automatically transcodes all your streams so you won't have any issue with heavy h265 compression). Of course for the same reason Netflix and Prime Video will work, just remember to always use a wall plug and not the USB port of your TV to power the stick. Kodi is a question marks it's on what you have in your library, of course very high-compressed h265 videos won't play, but for me is has been more than fine so far

Well, my experience says otherwise, after a week of tinkering. It exceeded my expectations (I expected a laggy interface but it´s smooth most of the time)
Tried with Kodi and SPMC and auto refresh rate works fine and, as far as I know, the cpu should be capable of h265 hardware decoding (basic compression, I guess). Perfect for the streaming friendly content in some Kodi addons.
Pleasantly surprised with this apparently limited hardware, no need for a Nvidia Shield (overkill for my needs)
