I rooted and flashed my phone and everything worked great but my data package stopped working Completly. I restored the phone back to stock ROM using Odin but still no data (wifi still works). I checked my IMEI number and it appears fine.
The instructions i followed to root the phone was the one where you do not tripp the flash counter, and I backed up IMEI using the NV reader, and the ROM i installed was the Sonic Rom. The only thing I think I could have done wrong is when I went to use the NV reader I accidentally started backing up the entire array of numbers and I canceled the operation midway through. I then just backed up just the IMEI and installed the ROM.
Is it possible I corrupted something when I hit cancel? And please does anyone know how I can get my data working? I was on the phone with tmobile for over an hour today and they were zero help.
thanks.

Exact same thing happened to me..I used PeopleArmy's method and tried re-injecting the correct IMEI back into the phone for a couple hours, then suddenly, my data started working again out of nowhere. Really weird, but it fixed my issue..good luck to you!

Thanks for the reply. did you use PeopleArmy method to recover a lost IMEI number? My issue is a little different. I still have IMEI numbers but I have no data signal working on the phone at all.
I did not get many many replies, maybe my original post was hard to understand...
My H+ and 3G indicator lights blink as if they are working but my phone is completly unable to use any data services. WiFi works, Cellular Voice works but no data.
When I first got the phone everything worked great but after I rooted and flashed it started showing a screen on my browser indicating that my data plan was not compatible with my handset. Tmobile could not help, since I have the correct data plan, my previous phone is the awesome HD2. Please let me know what I can do to fix the phone.

Hi there
I am in New Zealand, recently rooted with DR Ketan’s help and installed PhilzCWM. Also on Ketan’s advice, I backed up my EFS.
My problem: just today I realised I cannot send text, or make phone call. I am on X-Note ROM from 3-4 days ago. I am very sure that after installation, I had normal Mobile connectivity and was surprised to find I didn't. Not sure if my EFS became corrupted, or other ROM setting is wrong.
Under Settings About Device:
My SERVICE STATE says Out of Service
My Mobile NETWORK STATE says disconnected.
My phone number says UNKNOWN
What's weird is
My IMEI lists a long number, assumed correct and not corrupted
So if my EFS partition is corrupted I assume I wouldn't see any IMEI at all?
Far as I know my SIM is activated (I am on a company plan & coworker's phones are normal)
Just now I restored my stock nandroid and .... same thing! No service. So I doubt it's even a modem problem.
Guys I'm screwed, any tips what settings to check etc??
sounds like your IMEI is invalid. i had something random recently. all my flatmates use iphone 4s. they had no signal when @ home. cant send texts etc. wifi works.
then next day my LTE N2 did the same thing. I changed MODEM/BASEBAND problem corrected it self. went back to old MODEM/Baseband. no problems since.
only other thing i can think of is, someone has reported your IMEI to police or your provider..
does it say "NOT REGISTERED" ? or something similar where your provider name appears?

Hey thanks for th tip.
My phone recognises Vodafone as my provider but still won't connect.
I will try flashing a different modem, I may not have paid enough attention to different versions when I flashed the aroma installer.
Thanks, I'll report back.
update: Vodafone shop confirms my SIM is 100% good, and it works in another phone. So I think you're right, my IMEI is fukt.
I was told by Voda that my proper IMEi is listed on my phone innards. The IMEI shown in phone settings is waaay different. So it's corrupted somehow. I gotta familiarise myself with how to flash my backup image. Damn just what I need on beer day Friday
I restored my backup image of EFS/IMEI - it solved my problem.
Because there was an IMEI listed in phone settings I wrongly assumed it was the correct one. So flashing ROMS can muck up your EFS.....thank god for backups
you can still use the custom roms. just if your IMEI stuffs up, there is methods to reset it. i had to do it once. wasn't that difficult but was rather troublesome. i just wanted to use the custom rom at the time.
Hey everyone, so somehow, by flashing a kernel, I lost my IMEI/EFS folder. Of course, I didn't have it backed up to begin with. I restored my IMEI using QPST, but I still only manage to connect to EDGE. I restored an old stock rooted nandroid and tried again, to no avail.
In settings, I am still missing my ERI version, and, as I said before, I can connect to EDGE, make phone calls, receive texts, etc. but no data, so something is definitely missing.
Could somebody give me the definitive method to repair this problem? Thanks!
Ok....tried to Odin back to Stock rooted (Root69) and I'm hung at the Samsung boot screen. Can anyone lend a hand?
EDIT: Fixed with factory reset. Still stuck on EDGE...
Can you clear the imei number with this tool?

I would suggest warranty replacement as the best option. I ran into the same issue, and that is what I had to do. Apparently, the NV items carry a lot of configuration information. After I did the warranty replacement, I did a difference between the NV backup from my old corrupted GSIII and the new one before I returned it. There were some substantial differences, much more than just the missing IMEI!
Much has been written about the loss of IMEI when flashing a ROM. But I am stumped by my experience in recent days.
I live in China and have a rooted Galaxy Note II. It is the China Mobile version (N7108), but I was able to root it, deknox it, and add google apps which are not normally part of the Chinese version. It worked fine for months. Then I got on a plane to the US and forgot to turn the phone off. It had the dreaded circle with the slash. When I entered *#06#, it gave null/null. I did not alter a thing on the flight.
I waited a day, rebooting it often in hopes that it would work. But it has not.
The only thing that fixes the problem is to flash the phone with the latest Samsung firmware. But, as soon as I follow this up with flashing Philz recovery which I had before, the IMEI is lost again. I can't figure out how flashing the recovery image is altering the EFS or IMEI. The challenge I have is that I don't know how to backup the EFS without custom recovery and root. But adding root and recovery loses the IMEI.
Any ideas???
Hi everyone! I am new here in XDA Developers.
I have been snooping around since 1 year ago or so, and I found this site when I hard bricked my phone.
Well, let's start the story:
I bought an used Moto Z Play from a friend, excellent phone, 10/10 functions and aesthetics.
Once i had the phone in my hands I wanted to ROOT it, because I wanted to hack games and stuff. The phone was in Android 8.0 (Oreo), but since there was no root for my phone and OS, y proceeded to search the latest OS that could be rooted. I found out that it was the android 7.1, I think. Well, since I wanted a "clean" installation in my phone I downloaded the original ROM, and wanted to update it like many people do, via OTA. I installed 6.0 (since it is it's original ROM, from factory), all good. The update notification showed up, I accepted; it updated to 6.1 or sth, then the 7.0 update, updated, AND finally came the 7.1. Once I updated, it bricked. HARD BRICKED. I panicked, since I wanted to give away this phone to my dad. I found out that I needed a blankflash. I searched through a lot of forums, some even in russian, and chinese. I found out and accepted that the blankflash for the android 8.0 never came out. I gave up.
Since then, I learned that I MUST NEVER UPDATE VIA OTA. I learned it the hard way. I'm sorry for my stupidness.
Then I bought another motherboard from another Moto Z Play. I installed it and discovered that the ROM wasn't STOCK. That's because when I turned on the phone it started in bootloader everytime. The new motherboard came with Android 8.0 (Oreo) but I'm sure that it is a custom rom.
Well, the phone is now working perfect, but NOW, I have a problem.
I want to use 2 SIM cards in it. The first SIM card works fine, calls, mobile data, Wi-Fi... everything is good.
BUT the second one, from a different service provider, does not work. I inquired and found out that it was a problem because my phone wasn't, apparently, unlocked for other providers. I tested the SIM card with other phone, it worked. In the Moto Z Play, I saw that the APN info was correct, it detected all the info, but could not make calls, no mobile data. Wi-Fi was good though. The SIM card is fine, but the phone is locked.
I need the IMEI, MY IMEI, lol, but it is a problem. I tried calling to *#06#, the message shows
┐
IMEI
0
└
and in the settings -> system -> about phone -> status -> IMEI info, it shows nothing, BLANK!!!
that's why I think it is a custom room, and I have a problem.
The phone works fine with the first SIM card though, and I really like it. But I wabt to use the other one too.
My question is, should I install another ROM in the phone? I'm very afraid that it could HARD BRICK AGAIN.
What do you guys recommend? Should I try it or leave like this?
Now I don't really care if I can ROOT the device or not, I just want it to be functional and solve the "unlock line providers" problem. It could be fine with the 8.0 oreo or 9.0 pie, I don't mind, although I saw in other forums that I should not downgrade again, even if my phone has a custom rom and the new one is custom as well, so, i think the 9.0 pie could be good, but the oreo 8.0 is fine as well.
A guy in another forum could recover his IMEI with a somehow, interesting, process.
I will try to translate it since the original is in spanish:
┐
I experimented with several ROMs, and I tested one with android 9, the name is "The XPerience Project", but the Wi-Fi didn't work, so I decided to go back to the Stock one. I tried a multime times and days to restore my IMEI, but I failed at all. I decided to try another custom rom with android 9. I noticed that this one had the IMEI and it worked perfectly. An idead popped out of my head: a backup. In test mode, I entered in recovery mode and make a security backup of the MODEM and EFS folders in a MicroSD. Once the process finished, I instaled the stock rom agin in my device. Once it started, it had the same problem: the IMEI was 0 and had no signal. I installed the recovery TWRP again and made a restoration of the backup thet I saved in the microSD. The MODEM folder could not be restored (it showed an error), but the EFS was restored. I started the device once more and it automatically foun the signal and the IMEI number was re-established. My Moto Z Play is DualSim, version XT1635-02. I hope that I could help with my solution. Cheers!
└
My Moto version is the same: XT1635-02
Has anyone recovered their IMEI?
If someone could tell me what should I do, I would be very thankful.
Cheers! :highfive::highfive::highfive:
