When you go into LCD Test (*#0*#), I notice that the brightness is not really all that uniform on the display. If I bring the device close to my face I see the brightness as same and when I extend the phone further away from I can see a little difference of brightness (very minute difference; extremely hard to tell unless you play with the different brightness modes). To appreciate the difference you need to squint your eyes. Am I trying to be too nit-picky?
Okay, my eyes are playing with me; just washed my eyes and everything looks normal, what AMOLED should look like, early mornings, lol :silly:

yeah seems you're trying really hard to find any imperfections. "extremely hard to tell, play with brightness modes, squint eyes etc"
should i do this under a full moon or candle light?
i usually stay away from these threads but just found all the conditions you mentioned funny. just use your phone under normal conditions. i havent noticed a single flaw... cause im not looking & digging for them.
you have three threds open discussing screens, mura & audio problems... seems like maybe you're trying to convince yourself or others about something?
EDIT: Four threads.... Refurbished phone
Perhaps, I know I paid too much, and finding flaw's like these shouldn't be so easy. I mean, I've been through '3' Note 2 already, currently on my 3rd Note 2, and am I trying to mend my relationship with the Samsung Company, especially after facing more or less similar experiences on the S2 and Note 1. I know my AMOLED display is fine, but physical things like chrome-paint finish, and elevated home button are things I really hoped Samsung would improve their quality-control on; pretty soon, they will loose business as a result of this. I made threads not only to share my insight, but to also have an open discussion about everything I have come across with the Note 2. Not surprising, many have seemed to confirm the same things that I see. So, I'm just joining the bandwagon and moving along. :good:
I think I'm going blind because im very satisfied with screen on my note or maybe I'm not that picky. I be happy if it last next 2-3 years or until my next impuls buy.

I buy this awesome watches before few days and I saw that watchface screen is randomly shifted around display and is not in center. This is refreshed about once per minute and I think that it's in response to gyroscope. Maybe it's some type of anti-screen-burn protection system. Can anyone explain what is this feature and how can i disable it?
It's exactly what you said, it is the AMOLED burn in protection. Unfortunately I don't know if or how it can be deactivated.
With an ambient watchface like yours, it does not make too much sense anyway, as the shift will not ensure that every pixel is not constantly on. To be honest, I don't know if it is a good idea to use such a watchface in ambient mode, as we have had already reports of burn in effects here in this forum. You may want to look for something optimized for AMOLED displays.

Thank's for your contribution. I found some display burn-in-protection in developers menu of android wear, but it doesn't have effect after change...
Rate this thread to express how well you can see the LG G5's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Sunglasses
With no sunglasses in bright daylight I can see the screen without issue. Sometimes I have to remove my sunglasses to see the screen well. No problem with sunglasses in the car so far.
I have great outdoor visibility. In direct sunlight I see the display boost up to compensate for the environment. I was worried about this at first but works great. As far as sunglasses every phone I have ever had always has issues with visibility.

Exactly this.
Could do better in bright situations
Best there is on an extra sunny day. Very impressive in this category.
If your having trouble seeing outdoors make sure you have auto checked and crank the brightness up. For some reason if you don't have auto checked it does not get as bright as it can. Lg might call this a feature I call it a bug

For gods sake, i gave up trying to get this stuff to work correctly, the only thing helped was updating to V10c.
Before it turned on the Outside thingy, and turned it off again within 2 seconds.
I have no problems seeing it on max brightness on a sunny day through my sunglasses. There is another brightness level beyond 100% that kicks in when it's in direct sun, but I believe this is only achievable (for now) by using the "auto" brightness
I barely can see to be honest, no screen can beat the AMOLED on outdoor visibility.
my experience so far:
bought one (gold), in outdoor under direct sunlight, the screen was unreadable, from time to time the "super brightness" kicked in for about 1-2 seconds, than gone off again
tought it was defective, got a new one (silver)
same exact problem
my friend bought one: same exact problem
asked on twitter, found one owner, same exact problem
now... i really, really hope is a software thing, a bug, something like that, because when this super brightness turns on the screen is gorgeous under direct sunlight, but the problems is that it doesn't kick in when it have to, and even shoot photos with a sunny day is simply impossibile
the phone was on v10a when i bought it, i'm on V10c now and the problem is still here....

Mine still does this even with the V10c update =(. Come on LG this has to be some software bug, just fix it already!
Wow! After reading this forum I discovered the super-brightness thing. This is great!
Works fine for me but I can test some more. I just set it to Auto and it kicked under direct light from a torch.
I'm on V10c-EUR-XX
Even at max brightness it can be hard to see in direct sunlight.

You must set the brightness to "Auto" in order for the brightness sunlight boost to kick in. Setting the brightness to maximum will also block the boost.

I have tested several times and I discovered whether the "super brightness mode" can be kicked is not only depends on the brightness of the environment. When the phone is hot, this mode can be kicked for only 1-2 seconds and won't be kicked again until the phone is cooled down. However, the phone gets hot easily under sunlight. That means the "super brightness mode" is useless if LG continues setting a low temperature limit for this mode.
I live on an island and have been going to the beach a lot lately. Can confirm that screen visibility is very good, even with sunglasses on. My wife's G4 is not that bright though but cannot really find any faults with my G5.
Almost useless in sunlight. Other than that its a great display, Super AMOLED is obviously better though.
I'm really trying to like the Honor 7x but I get headaches using it and I think it's something funny with the screen. When held vertically, in portrait position, looking at the screen while reading emails and the news gives me a head ache and I can't put my finger on why. It's almost like certain parts of the screen are out of focus. It's better when held horizontally in landscape position but still not great. Adjusting the blue light filter and changing the white point doesn't seem to help, although whats interesting is that dropping the screen resolution in the battery setting helps a little.
Any one else having similar problems?

You're right, there wasn't anything wrong with the phone. Perhaps just a screen calibration that I just couldn't handle with extend use. Youtube reviewer Damir Franc sees it too and calls it a weird screen contrast calibration. I think it's a combination of the contrast calibration, the not so great viewing angles, as well as major glare in practically any lit situation. I get it, its a budget device, but isn't the screen supposed to be the main selling point with the Honor 7x? It sure as hell isn't the lack of NFC.

TIme stamp: 2:29 for display.
I felt that too
Can you try another one to make sure it's not workmanship?

I returned the Honor 7x and don't plan on trying a new one. I don't think this screen calibration issue that I have with the Honor 7x is unique to the device I had received. I think the 7x display was calibrated this way to make the budget panel "pop." Initially I thought the display was wonderful but after staring at it for more that a few minutes I realized that I wouldn't be able to use the 7x as my daily driver. Like I said in the initial post, turning down the screen resolution in the battery settings helped but didn't eliminate the problem.

Loll, he is simply calling it weird brightness.. A lot to go on for guys like you i guess..
The display isnt oled panel of course..
The brightness which you guys are referring to is the color popping out in the broad day light.. Its intentionally done so as to give a good brightness outside..
The viewing angles? Of course its an ips display so it wont give the viewing angles like those with amoled displays in the mid to high range phone category..
And i call it the 2017 budget phone since no phone has the amoled display with 18:9 ratio..
Nor MI A1 which is the closest competitor has the viewing angles which youre refering to..
They cant give you all the features of a 500$ phone in a 200$ price point..
Chip in cash for unecessary bump i guess then..
That ll be good for you..
But for most 510 nits is a really good display brightness compared to the averagr 470 level..
Sorry To Hear That..

I hope you find a device that better suits your needs.
I'm curious though... did you try this simple adjustment to change and possibly improve the effects the 7X had on your eyes ? ( See Pic )
It can make a tremendous difference.. should you decide to give the 7X just one more try..
Hello,
Today when taking photos I've noticed that light sources like lightbulbs and chandeliers appear twice in photo. It's hard to describe, but attached photos should clarify what I'm talking about.
I've checked on other phone, Honor 8X and it's same.
And here's my question to you: do you observe the same behaviour, or my device is flawed?

Yes, Honor does the same. Actually I've just checked LG V30 and Huawei P10 Lite, and it's almost the same.
I'm kinda shocked I haven't noticed it before.
Can you please check on your phones?
I don't know if it's worth using warranty with my Note 10+ if it's the general issue.
I took a direct photo of my desk lamp and there's nothing wrong, I'll try again later tonight using different angles/sources.
I googled it and this problem is widely commented on:

Thank you for the link. So it seems like this can be considered "normal".
However I'm still curious what will be result of your tests. Please share what was the outcome, whether you were able to reproduce this.
It depends on the angle, sometimes you will see this, some times not, I have seen this in dedicated cameras as well
Thank you for your response.
As I'm testing it more, it seems very hard to take photo without ghost lights when not pointing straight into light source, attached few more sample files.
Maybe I'll get over it, if not I'll give it a go, and use warranty, they'll do something with this or not.
Hello,
That's amazing to see this post today, just the day i noticed exactely the same.
I noticed that when doing a video test, through windows stores (the room was in the dark, light going thru the little holes in the stores). I had exactely the same kind of little lights reproduced in the left quarter of the frame.
I thought it was due to the shape of the lens, some kind of light reflexion on it, but now i am wondering because that is the EXACT same thing as your description.
I would not send to warranty... since i had exactely the same 'problem'. I believe it is due to lens design.

I believe you have the same, but don't know how often you see these lights.
I can understand this can be seen in some conditions, but as I'm testing it more, I almost can't take any photo without it.
I've looked through YouTube reviews with some night shots and can't see it there.
Attaching last two samples, to not spam this thread, as maybe I'm now oversensitive on this
I'll go to the store today, and see what they'll say.

Went on tonight to my favorite night photography places and the full moon was the perfect source of light to look into the "ghosting" thing. It's really easy to see what's happening with the light when moving the camera around its axis. Note 10 has a rather thick glass covering/protecting the lenses and the light entering the camera is being distorted by the inner and outer surfaces of the glass plate depending on the angle of entry.
I was having really boring Sunday today so I'm glad I found something to do because of that, and I even made a little drawing using the S-Pen(love the s-pen!) to illustrate directional changes of light while entering/exiting a medium of different densities (air/glass)
We know that light will get reflected by a glass at certain degree because of different density between air and glass. Basic physics. Our camera is made of multiple layers of lens with variables angle. So if 99% of light goes through the lens, 1% get reflected. We won't see it for normal light. But if the light source is very bright, even 1% will be visible on photo.
That's my hypothesis.
Happens all the time when facing a lamp light directly, with wide and zoom lens. But seems to be less visible with ultra-wide.
This looks like an internal reflection within the camera it's self.
Internal reflections are common on multi-element lens.
You pay big bucks for coated elements and engineering to suppress this effect in pro lens.
Internal reflections can also happen between the cmos sensor and any of the internal optics.
In the case the cover element is a prime suspect.
Lol, you can thousands for a pro shooting system and you will still find this.
