The only issue is the "can't add more faces" text above. which blocks us from setting up any face unlock.
So far there's no way to bypass this, but I think that face unlock is definitely coming in the december feature drop, although it's one year late.

I doubt that. they more like denied to answer as they said "we don't know about any such thing currently". Hopefully Google will be generous with its older pixel users.

Totally different. Comparing apples and oranges. Yes, it's possible and yes it has been added into custom builds, but that doesn't mean it meets a number of other criteria needed to be included in a stable release from Google. I am sure number one is security. Due to the technology of the pixel 6 and 6p, face unlock is far from being a "reliable security measure".

You mean like adding a feature to an old phone doesn't help them sell new ones?

I saw a few hands-on reviews on the OnePlus 5T and they kept talking about this new face unlock feature. Is it just me, or is that already in Android? Settings > Security > Smart Lock > Trusted Face? Or is what the 5T has something different, because it looks just the same.

assuming it's different. the current face unlock just uses the selfie camera. assuming the "new" face unlock is similar to apples with the dot matrix (or whatever the hell they're calling it).
Pixel 1 has it too and it is not that smooth like Fingerprint
Edit:. It requires for pin/password most of times.

It was added back in Android 4.0 ICS
Never stopped using it
It's quick
Just need a bit more practise for the software (scan a few times)

It is quick but can be bypassed with a simple picture. I turned it off cause fingerprint is most secure.
Biometric security is ok for convenience, but it is not protected by your rights against self-incrimination.
Only KNOWLEDGE based security offers protection against self-incrimination.
What that means, is if you have anything on your phone that you need to actually keep secure, you can't use face OR fingerprint for unlocking.
Also, apple's face unlock has also been broken.
Contrary to claims of it being virtually impossible for another person's face to unlock it, anyone with a similar face can unlock it, i.e., parent <--> child.
Here is a 10 year old kid who can reliably unlock his mother's phone, and occasionally his father's;
https://www.wired.com/story/10-year-old-face-id-unlocks-mothers-iphone-x/
You can also break it with putty and spray paint.
https://www.wired.com/story/hackers-say-broke-face-id-security/
So don't take theirs as being any more secure, even if the technique is a bit different.
Android has had face unlock for awhile. And with every android version from 4.0 its just gotten better and faster. The reason its so fast on the op5t is because they have it auto unlock the device at the lock screen instead of how the pixel and most phones have you still swipe up even after it verifies your face. The iphone uses a IR tech to read the topography of your face instead of just matching it to a photo of your face.
Face unlock on the pixel is just as fast as the 5t and obviously faster the the iphone x. However, it is not nearly as secure. Some roms/mods allow us to just unlock the device as soon as our face is recognized by using features called "unlock when smart lock is verified" and the such.
One of the best features about face id is notification security, as in it only shows you a notification preview until it detects your face then it shows you the full notification.
Would love to see that on a Pixel. Not hugely secure but handy in day to day use.

I do like that feature too. Would be cool if it was an option with the fingerprint scanner. It would require an extra step to unlock the screen but keep notifications as previews first.
It is different, on the OP5t, it will automatically unlock and go to home screen, on Pixel 2XL, you have to power button, look, and swipe to unlock. I don't know if one is more secure than the other, but the XL does take longer, having to swipe.

It's been like this since it was introduced in 2011 with Android 4.0. Not very secure at all. I do remember some variations that tried to make it more secure by requiring a blink.

I read about OnePlus getting new people to make a team to work on Open Beta for 9/9Pro.
I like that!
New team is not something to like. It might be good but also be a disaster. Questions should be asked like WHY????? are they getting a new team? What happened to all the revenue they made and how are they using it? Who is controlling the company, One Plus or the Chinese government? Why the delay to begin with. I realized DP1 was developers preview and not beta but why not allow Google updates for DP 2 and three. Who cares that Oxygen was not on it yet. Now that stability been reached with Beta, let's us Early Adopters adopt. I refuse to buy a Google Pixel love my one plus but was so excited that it allowed BL to be unlocked but I feel let down by OP. Perhaps my expectations were unrealistic to begin with

People get married, have kids, no more time to spend on Android. Priorities change. I also think not only priorities of people's lives but also Android itself and the huge slowdown of phone evolution. Actual since smartphone sales slowed companies like apple and Google created smart watches to help increase revenues. They first used the old nostalgic movies like knight rider or James bond to sell them even though Smart watches cannot do anything close to what the movies portrayed. You can make flippable phones but you won't see hologram s coming out of your phone. I know we love to always think of our technology being limitless but that dam law of physics keeps getting in the way. So now they will start with AR glasses with WebView capabilities. And when that fails, which it will because who wants a HUD I'm their line of sight. In 30 years we will events have implants and chips that will help the brain and technology link. Isn't it Neurolink that exists now. That technology is decades away. Because again we do not know how the body/brain will react and now I'm having flashback from the movie Black Mirror.

I think the gmail app just sux. I've experienced the late notifications across quite a few devices personally.
Oxygen sucks because of google. The more google on it the more bad Oxygen will be.
Also the King of Bloatware, samsung already gets Androis 12.
And OnePlus release 9R or something...
They are starting the ultimate consolidation of Oxygen OS into Color OS. How is OnePlus going to manage all these phones? Do they even have enough staff to manage all these phones?
Unfortunately they only update bi-monthly.
I saw a user suggest on their official forums basically say "hey guys, how about monthly updates like your competition?" in a friendly way, and a mod basically said **** off and closed the thread. I wasn't impressed.
This was my first OnePlus device, maybe my last.
That 12 Beta debacle was ridiculous.
After having the 7, 8, & 9 Pro, I will be leaving the building as well!
Is this a joke? About month last update and now ppl are think this is over. How do u even can survive this life?
I like how people actually think theres a decent alternative to oneplus these days. At least not in the US. Maybe google if the pixel 6 is actually premium/flagship this time. Otherwise theres no other brand with an unlockable bootloader, which is how they get away with so much bloat. Personally im fine of oneplus becomes a little more like the others as long as the hardware is premium and the bootloader is unlockable.
9 Pro is my first and last phone from OP if they can't get they BS sorted out. The phone has horrible battery life, scrolling issues, and it doesn't get better with next updates. Also, wtf is that BS with the bi-monthly update scheudle? A device like this should be fixed ASAP, the users are experiencing problems and neet to wait, the hell is that policy? Would they wait 2 months to release an update if someone would find a security bug too? So stupid. Get your **** together OnePlus.

The Pixel 6 Pro might still get Face Unlock with a future update, but the Pixel 6 likely won’tGoogle’s new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro don’t have Face Unlock, with the in-display fingerprint scanner being the only biometric authentication option on both phones. We have seen multiple rumors and reports that Google originally planned to include Face Unlock on the Pixel 6 series, but decided against it at the last moment. Now a new finding suggests that Google might still bring Face Unlock to the Pixel 6 Pro in a future update.
Folks over at 9to5Google have found some new evidence within the Android 12L Beta update that suggests that Google hasn’t entirely given up on adding Face Unlock support on the Pixel 6 series. The publication has found the following strings in the device Settings app which hint at Pixel phones offering both face and fingerprint as biometric authentication options. Since the Pixel 4 was the only Google phone to offer Face Unlock, we’re speculating that these strings are likely referring to the Pixel 6 series.
Code:
<string name=”biometric_settings_use_face_or_fingerprint_preference_summary”>Using face or fingerprint</string>
<string name=”biometric_settings_use_face_preference_summary”>Using face</string>
<string name=”biometric_settings_use_fingerprint_preference_summary”>Using fingerprint</string>
Meanwhile, references found within the camera app refer to Face Unlock as an experimental feature for the 2021 Pixel phones.

However, there’s a catch. According to 9to5Google, all evidence of Face Unlock support currently suggests that the feature will only be available on the Pixel 6 Pro. When the publication inspected the same code files on the Pixel 6 running the latest Android 12L Beta, they couldn’t find any such reference on the smaller model.
This matches press renders of the Pixel 6 series leaked in October, which only showed the Pixel 6 Pro as having Face Unlock.
It’s not immediately clear why would Google leave out the standard Pixel 6, especially considering that the Pixel 6 Pro doesn’t have any special hardware for Face Unlock.
In any case, all evidence so far points that Google is still working on the Face Unlock feature and it could arrive on the Pixel 6 Pro as part of Android 12L or a Pixel Feature Drop.
The Pixel 6 Pro might still get Face Unlock with a future update, but the Pixel 6 likely won't
According to a new finding, Google might still bring Face Unlock to the Pixel 6 Pro in a future update. Read on.
www.xda-developers.com
Android 12L suggests Pixel 6 Pro may still get Face Unlock support, but not the $599 Pixel 6
While the Pixel 6 series didn’t launch with Face Unlock, it could still arrive in a future update, but exclusively for the Pixel 6 Pro.
9to5google.com
The selfie cameras are different on the P6P versus the P6. 11.1 MP on the P6P, and 8 MP on the P6. I don't know if that's a factor.
"9to5Google can report today that Google’s original plan was to launch the Pixel 6 Pro with face unlock, but the feature was pulled relatively close to launch."
According to sources familiar with the matter, Google intended to announce the Pixel 6 Pro with support for face unlock to complement the under-display fingerprint sensor. The capability was only meant for the larger flagship and not the smaller Pixel 6, which collaborates something we previously speculated based on code.
The hardware difference between the two phones is an 11.1MP front-facing camera with 94 degree “ultrawide” field of view on the 6 Pro compared to 8MP and 84 degrees on the $599 Pixel 6. Otherwise, there’s no dedicated hardware (IR cameras, dot projector, or flood illuminator) as was seen on the Pixel 4 in 2019. There’s nothing like Soli radar to speed up the unlocking process either.
Google is presumably relying solely on what’s captured by that selfie camera to authenticate that it’s you. This has always seemed like the more Google-y approach, which is primarily using software to tackle difficult problems. It was also something that the Android Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Galaxy Nexus leveraged.
There have hopefully been marked processing and accuracy advancements in the past 11 years, especially with the presence of dedicated hardware like Tensor. For example, Google touts its chip as allowing for faster, more accurate face detection – in photography contexts – due to integrated subsystems, while consuming half the power compared to a Pixel 5.

The relatively last-minute decision to pull face unlock is reflected in how early and launch-day marketing material referenced the capability. This included a German print ad (though that mistakenly claimed it was for the entry Pixel 6) and one UK-carrier launch page that showed “Face and Fingerprint Unlock” in a live image of Android 12’s Security Hub. That reference — as well as one in a Play Store listing screenshot — was later pulled. Since then, there have been additional straggling references to the capability on actual Pixel 6 Pro devices.
One of the sources told us that Google is still working to add face unlock to the Pixel 6 Pro, and that it’s targeted for the next major quarterly Android update, though plans might still change.
If that is indeed still the plan, it’s quite interesting for Google to update the Pixel 6 Pro with a major new feature so close to the end of its annual product cycle. It will definitely be a welcome addition for current owners and those who continue to have qualms about the fingerprint reader. Meanwhile, this method of face unlock will presumably be a staple on future Pixel devices going forward.

Magic Eraser was one of the cool new tricks that came with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, but it picked up a new trick alongside the Pixel 6a in “camouflage.” Now, it’s been confirmed that Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will add the new feature in just a few days.
“Camouflage” joins Magic Eraser’s usual ability to remove photobombers or objects from an image through the Google Photos editor on Pixel 6 series phone. The feature was first announced at Google I/O 2022, and arrived mostly unceremoniously as a perk to the Pixel 6a.
We noted the feature in our review of the Pixel 6a earlier this week.
The one new feature arriving alongside the Pixel 6a, but is soon to come to the rest of the lineup, is “Camouflage” in the Google Photos app. This expansion of Magic Eraser was announced back at Google I/O with the ability to mute the colors of objects in the photo so they don’t distract from the subject. We’ve only tested this feature briefly, but it does exactly what Google claims, and with decent results.

You can see our results with Magic Eraser’s “Camouflage” below, with the feature ability to quickly pick up a distracting bright-colored cup in the background of the shot, which gets toned down to a less attention-grabbing muted orange color. We found that the feature doesn’t always work perfectly, and some shots just aren’t a great fit for the tech. But like the regular object remover, it can certainly be a handy tool to have around.
“Camouflage” is available on the Pixel 6a right out of the box, but the feature is supposed to work on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro as well. Speaking to The Verge, Google confirmed that “Camouflage” will be rolling out to both phones on July 28, the same day that Pixel 6a ships to customers.

Looks like a good feature, it should be good at toning down items that dominate the image but that you don't want removing.
