Question Overheating issues - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

I had my og fold 3 the day it released. Well, my inner screen got messed up so I filed an asurion claim and they sent me a refurbished one. It's overheats constantly. If I have it plugged in for more than 10 minutes, if I'm on it for more than tutuapp tweakbox 10, minutes, if it exists in my purse doing nothing it gets hot. Is this just a fold 3 issue I was lucky to miss with my og fold or something I need to contact them about?

I think you should do 1 of 2 things. There's an adb command change the settings for how much it limits CPU for keeping the heat down and then you could file another insurance claim that this device is defective.

Honestly, I would file another claim. Sooner rather than later.

Has Anyone Figured Out The Cause Of This Reboot Issue?

Well, My first generation EVO ran fairly well for about 4 months and then all Hell broke loose. Random reboots ranging from 2-10 times a day. I was unable to solve this issue no matter what methods I tried. I read about this issue that had impacted a wide array of EVO owners and it came down to 2 different categories of problem, hardware and software divisions.
First off, this issue has been effecting EVOs with AND without root. Meaning there is no clear justifiable reasoning that rooting your EVO may cause these things to occur. Heck, my friend bought a BRAND NEW 2nd generation Evo just last month and 2 days after he had bought it, he was showing it to me at the exact moment it started to freeze and reboot. It ended up doing it 5 times within the 3 hours we were at the mall together. It was enough aggravation for him to decide to swap it out at Sprint and sure enough, it rebooted right in front of the Sprint rep and he gladly gave my buddy a new one.
There were a bunch of people that just disabled data and started experiencing the problem thereafter, but they were able to resolve the situation simply by enabling data once more. Even though that, in its self, is an unusual and inexcusable flaw, it's no big deal compared to the other side of this problem.
The hardware issue seems to stem from overheating and the pattern is that the reboots occur either during phone calls, using juice extracting applications, or multitasking with many apps open. Upon further digging for clues, I found out what MAY be causing this problem just from a common sense standpoint and why it effects even the Droid X:
Because both the EVO and Droid X have large 4.3" Displays that are LCDs and not LED (AMOLED or RETINA) and are crammed into a very thin body, they generate a lot of heat that resonates to the motherboard. AMOLED and RETINA displays take up less power and create less heat than standard LCD displays. In addition, Samsung's cheap plastic may actually be a benefit to HTC's more expensive aluminum unibody because the metal body is just a magnet for that heat and retains most of it within the guts of the phone. Same can be said about the Droid X even though it uses less metal than the HTC.
I'm very convinced that this is the source of the problem, although I cannot verify it. I never had this problem with my Nexus One and I was way more of a hardcore user on that phone than my EVO. Heck, I was scared to be on the EVO for long periods of time just because of how paranoid this reboot issue had made me. I'm very disappointed in HTC and hope they rebound soon because I've always been a fan. Since my first EVO, I've switched to the Epic 4G and while I definitely don't think Samsung's build quality touches that of HTC, I will say that the reliability issues associated with the EVO are enough to keep me away from it. I really hope that this AMOLED shortage is resolved by next summer. I will never buy another Large LCD display phone again!
I never used my Evo not being rooted and I had some issues (with the various guides out). I finally got it rooted but since day one the phone locks up randomly and reboots. It might be heat related....seems to happen when its warm.........
Coming from an iPhone i have to say I'm EXTREMELY annoyed at this. i just want a damn phone that works at this point. WTH.
Its my work phone but I'm out of the country. I'm going to ask the phone group if they can replace mine for me. This is ridiculous.
I don't think it's heat
I had this issue with my daughter's phone. Hot or cold, wiped and reimaged it would sometimes reboot and loop 10 to 20 times. I finally had oit replaced by Sprint
Im having this problem. Ive noticed that when it reboots and i get it to turn on the phone temp is usually at 100 degrees or more, once it cools down i can resume what im doing until it starts to warm up again. Needless to say next week ill be getting my replacement phone, hope they dont give me any trouble.

[Q] Returning phone question

Looks like my Galaxy 2 has some kind of battery issue. It could just be the battery, but I think something is screwed up internally. Anyway, has anyone gotten a brand new phone out of Sprint?
I want to take it in, but there's NO WAY I'm accepting a refurb...
Any tips on getting a new one?
If the issue is related to the battery taking a long time to charge, then that's just a Samsung phone thing. Their phones usually charge slowly.
And what's wrong with a Refurb phone? It's a broken phone that was fixed back like new, but it's still the same phone that was used, so you can't sell it as new.
It's like if a car get's in a wreck, but then you replace every single part in the car and make it like it was when it first was bought. You can't sell it as new, because it's not, so it's refurb.
Unless you just had a bad experience with something refurb, then I don't see why not to get one. I know this is off topic, but my first GameCube lasted 2 years, a refurb that I was able to get as a replacement is still running perfectly, and I got the refurb in 2005.
Nah, the battery issue isn't that simple.
It won't even charge when the phone is turned on; I have to keep the phone off to charge it. If its on, it charges ridiculously slow, and on top of that, sometimes the battery overheats and it stops charging altogether.
I don't like refurbs plain and simple.
well its a 50/50 if u will get referb or new. the past 3 phones i have gotten were new due to the manufacture date on the back stated what day. but then again that was a evo shift. i am still waiting to get this phone (this week). either way if its referb, the onlything they keep in the phone is the motherboard, everything else is replaced, but u keep ur old bat. the motherboards with the processors are the expensive part. so you are getting a brand new phone with the same motherboard. if the issue persists then bring the phone back in, simple 1 2 and 3.
Edit: ALSO with most sprint repair stores you go to can fix it on the spot with brand new parts.

Good luck. Let me know how it went.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
I'll probably take it in tomorrow.
I just had it charging with the phone turned on, and I got the warning saying the battery temp is too high and it's going to stop charging. It ended up charging about 7% over the course of 2 hours plugged in, and at some point it overheated.
What a pain the ass. I hate dealing with this crap, especially with something I spent over $400 on.

sooner the better, its def a hardware issue, or battery which if its battery they make you pay for a new battery since its not under warranty.....
What do you mean it's not under warranty? Anyway, I took it in today, they said it looks like the battery so they had to order me one. Free of charge..

Quality of certified like new replacement from VZW?

Hey all,
Having some charging issue with my device that will likely necessitate a replacement device. I've been hesitant to make the move given the quality issues of CLNR with Verizon in the early months of the GNex existence.
For those who have recently received replacements, did you encounter much problem? It seemed like the issues were mainly related to the screen or reception issues. I had my Gnex since day 1 and never had any dropped calls or weak/fluctuating 4G signal. I'm hesitant to give it up!!
Thanks in advance!
I just got a replacement 2 weeks ago and mine has been great. No issues at all. But every device is different
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Its probably the charger cable, battery the USB port is broke. I suffered similar issues with a CLN HTC incredible. Try switching batteries cables or adapters. If all else fails take it back
I had similar issues with my original galaxy nexus after owning it for 8 months. The replacement they shipped me the ear piece on it didn't work. Sent that one back and the one after it I've had for almost 4 months now with no problems. A lot of it is just random bad luck, if I was you I'd send the old one in and hopefully your luck will hold up.

It might be a good time for a refurb, considering VZW just retired the phone.. Is it possible the remaining Gnex stock was pulled for refurbs?
About two weeks ago I got mine replaced by verizon due to my phone having charging issues as well. I went into the store, didn't call before hand.
I had flashed back to stock before i went in. Told the girl there that it wasnt charging right and i have multiple batteries and they all do the same. she went to look up on some database if others were reporting similar issues (there were none). after giving her my phone number and 5 minutes later she said a replacement is on the way and to mail my old one back in the same box (shipping was paid for)
I was very pleased by how quick and painless it all was. She never touched or looked at my phone at all and asked hardly any questions. my phone also had a chip in the screen (about 2 cm at the bottom right, no cracks though)
the replacement phone had a sticker saying "like new" replacement but it was absolutely pristine. absolutely 100% perfect cosmetically and works great as ever (screen colors seemed better than my original one imo).
Thanks for the heads up. Went ahead with the replacement. Will wait and see.

Nothing to worry about. Mine also had a chip in the bottom right corner (about 1/4 in long and 1/8 in high) as well as light scratches near the top of the screen. Luckily the chip did not develop a crack, but none-the-less, the lady at the VZW store didnt say anything of it even when i pointed it out, and my return was accepted with no charges incurred.

No issues for more than a month? Is your Note 7 safe?

Hey guys, another question here.
So here's the deal. After you got your phone, you use it. Stress it. games, Gear VR, movies. You travel. Change pressure, temperature, use it on very warm places, then cold places. You fast charge it, normal charge it, charge it from laptop, etc... etc... And all this for more than a month.
The question is simple. Since all Note 7 that exploded, exploded at least between a week of usage, is it safe to consider your Note 7 safe if you used it as stated above?
Tnx for answers.
If you have the problem that caused the battery fires then no, your phone could be running great, have been charged and stressed but when the anode and cathode touched then that's when you'd get the fire. You'd have no way of telling before this that you had a faulty phone. The fault was caused by layers failing between the anode and cathode in the battery and these layers could fail today or in a year.

its not a gradual thing that happens over time. you may accidentally leave it on a chair one day and sit down or leave it in your pocket and bump into something. either of those scenarios could cause enough pressure to make the 2 poles of the battery touch and cause an overheat condition.
Do the right thing and exchange it. There is no reason not to at this point
Im hearing even the exchange units are very warm and some catching fire too.
I had zero problems with my 2 devices both original and replacement. I am getting rid of the Note 7 though. Resale value will be **** and I'm paying cash as screw 2 year contracts +

Not some. One. There has been one reported.
Until the FAA/Samsung get done looking at it then we have no idea. And if there were a 2nd, 3rd or 10th replacement unit that had gone south do we really think every news org wouldn't report the crap out it even if it were fake or real? Sure they would. 2 iPhone 6S's popped today and no one is talking about it except the local SoCal news station that the gal who owned one of them had reported it to. It's weird but if it was a Note 7 it would be national news if they were popping left and right.
I'm on my replacement phone and it's not got so much as warm. I wasn't worried about the first one exploding but then they pushed out an update that kept the battery from charging over 60% and an annoying prompt that told you to go and replace it so I had no choice.

S7A swelled and bloated

Hi, I always have my phones in a protective case. Today I was having problems with the volume down button. Upon removing the phone from the case I noticed the phone was swollen to the point that the back had separated from the phone. Obviously, this is a battery issue. I have had this phone since August 2016 and it was in for warranty repair (broken glass over the camera) in Feb of 2017. I have never had a battery issue with a Samsung phone since 2010, but I have also never had a phone without a removable battery. The 1 year warranty is up, but I would expect to get better than 18 months out of a new phone, especially since I still have 8 more months left to pay on it. Anyone else has this issue with the S7A? Did Samsung warranty it? This is pretty ridiculous and I'm pretty freaking angry as I went through this with the Note 7 I got for my girlfriend at the same time.
Nobody?
UPDATE: After haggling with Samsung Service via e-mail they sent me a pre-paid mailer to send my phone in for inspection. They ended up fixing it free of charge and returning it in a week. They even replaced the LCD and front camera, which I suspect they damaged in the process of replacing the battery. 90 day warranty included.

That is good to know. I'm sure Apple tree owners would never see that service.
good to hear... how did you get em to warrant it?
did you have to prove proof of buy?
