Hello all,
I am new to android and experiencing this great oss via my htc desire!
I have version 2.2 (I think it's called froyo - non-rooted).
A prolbem occurs sometimes that says (translated from greek):
"There was an unexpected termination of the application "Messaging" (process com.android.mms) Try again."
And the only button I can press is "Close (or Forced Close)"..
This does not happen only with Messaging but wit Google services and a general "Android system", as well..
The problem I 've noticed is that when entering the Messaging application it shows the sms I 've received by my contacts, but these appear not as contacts nut as mobile numbers.
In example, at my contacts, I have Mr.X with mobile number 12345.
Sometimes when I enter the messaging application, I see 12345 and not the Mr.X as sender.
This is solved by forcing the application to close via the Application Manager (or management, through settings).
What can I do to solve these matters?
Is hard/soft reset a solution?
Also if I root my device am I going to lose data?
Is there any guide to follow so as to root my mobile? (I am really new to this android stuff, but have knowledge of PCs general and psp (flashing, wich is the same with custom roms)).
I would like to save my Contacts, Messages and Applications. Which application should I use?
Thank you!
Hard reset will most likely fix it.
By just rooting you don't lose data, and after you're rooted you can make a nandroid backup.
If you want to root you can check the development section for instructions.
Edit: If you do a hard reset you will lose the data on the phone (messages, etc.), so you might want to backup them before that.
Thank you for your reply!
About the backup you've said, is there any good application to backup sms, contacts?
I am taking a backup now and using the one by sprite mobile..Is it good?
Or should I root firstly and then use another backup application that needs rooted device?
Okay I think a better backup would be MyBackup (this is only a demo but should do for you) or LifeSaver
If you root with unrEVOked you'll get a custom recovery, from which you can make a nandroid (If this sentence doesn't make any sense to you please feel free to use search to find what I mean )
Also If you have root you can use Titanium Backup app.
I believe that I got what you said..
I would have Revoked if I bought it in example from a Vodafone store right?
I think mine is not branded...so I have unrevoked?? :S
Yes, "Revoked" will work for you.
But before doing that please get to know android OS a little better, I have a feeling you are not absolutely aware what are you about to do.
So read a little bit about "rooting", you can find plenty of information in the development section.
One of the important things is to check your firmware so in case you have problems you can revert to the "out of the box" state.
Revoked will work?
I thought it is Unrevoked.. :-S
Because I haven't bought my mobile from a provider such as vodafone..
When you say, get to know android OS a little better, what do you recommend doing?
I was refering to this because I didn't quite understand you clearly.

Nevermind it is unrEVOked. And it will work, no matter where did you get your phone from. For more information on rooting and similar stuff check out this threads:

So the stickied rooting guide is terrible. It's out of date, points to incorrect file locations, gives steps to take that don't work, and doesn't really explaina what any of the terms it is using actually mean.
Is there any well written guide for how to get root using unrevoked, and how to uninstall stock apps? I thought I had root access, apparently I lost it at some point, and the guide it just frankly less than useless at this point. I have no idead what a "recovery" is, or what a "nandroid" is, or any other terminology the author assumes the audience knows. I don't know what "koush" is, what busybox is, or what a NAND is, or when to reboot or not, there are no clear steps on what to do and when to do them
Any help would be appreciated.
Edit:
Apparently restarting the phone gave root back, and I was able to use an uninstaller program from the market to get rid of some stuff. But I never had to reboot to go into any bootloade mode, why is that needed sometimes? And what are those "com." entries, they're not apk's so you can't uninstall them. And there are some apps (Like "Search People") that you can't get rid of at all, how do you remove those?

I'd be very careful removing/uninstalling anything at all. Say you uninstall something and don't have it backed up then you won't be able to do an update if one comes out unless you can find them again.... OR, you did a complete backup.
Good way to do it is to rename the bloatware apps to something like, bloatware.apk.bak. add the .bak and it won't show/start.
I'vd been doing that, but onl some of the stuff shows up. I can't get rid of "people search", and there is all this com.android.xxxx stuff that I can't remove (there's a com.android.twitter, there's a com.android.FriendStreamWidget, etc) even though I uninstalled the related app. What are those and why are they running?
This looks like it could be a good phone if there wasn't so much garbage sucking up 1/2 the RAM all the time.

I've tried removal apps, I've tried locating the app itself since apparently you can uninstall it that way but to no avail. The damn thing is crashing Super SU and Xposed, I can't figure out a way of actually getting rid of it. The removal apps crash upon attempt and the app itself isnt showing up but I can see its on the device so what can I do?
Edit: I knew it would be some easy fix and I'd feel dumb after...well turns out I just needed to update SuperSU.

There are several ways to remove Knox after you've taken the 4.3 update. The first is to install the Knox remover script. See (Option 2) in the thread below for guidance...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538991
The other is to disable it from your apps drawer itself. See link below for guidance ...
http://www.droidviews.com/disable-knox-security-service-on-samsung-galaxy-devices/
Finally, you can follow Samsung's own instructions as follows...
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/howtoguide/N0000011/14421/170987
I guess you are having difficulties with either of the last 2 options because you can't locate the App. The first option would, therefore, be your best bet.
Hi guys,
I have a basic question, hope you guys can help me.
My LG G4 has repeated apps installed as seen in the picture below. Does anyone know why? I have not rooted my phone yet, but once I do, is it safe to remove apps like that , at least one of then?
Having a constant "Security Notice" on phone since rooting. Everything else works fine. Is there anyway I can maybe deactivate this function?
freeze in titanium backup...

to get rid of the security notice you will get(because the system is now rooted) simply install root explorer(or any root browser) and go to /system/app and delete securitylogagent or go into the folder and rename it adding .bkp to the end of the file name and reboot.

I began getting this, too, after rooting my Note7. I solved it the way others suggested, with Titanium Backup by freezing the Security Log Agent. That worked for me.

do you still have knox? i use samsung pay and security folder
You used the sprint method root at the N930V PHE or PH1? Not really related to thread, but just out of curiosity.
Same problem....
I'm having this same problem with my rooted note 7.
I've searched everywhere for securityagent on my note 7 and it's not there. The only way I can remove this threat found/restart device, is to remove device maintenance.
But then I lose the app done function and the advanced setting power saving mode.
I have disabled all knox and security realated apps.
But still still get the threat while device maintenance is there.
Does anyone know what the equivalent to securitylogagent is on a note 7 ????
Any help would be much appreciated, I am a noob, until 3 days ago I knew nothing, but I managed to unlock frp and root my note 7, but its been stressfull. I need help now...thanks.

You should have a package named SecurityLogAgent. Disabling this will stop the security notifications due to rooting. If you're referring to the Samsung messages regarding the recall, then you need to disable the Samsung Push service or just the notifications.

I'm not referring to them notifications, I have disabled Samsung push.
There is no package with the name 'securitylogagent' on my note 7.
I have researched this alot before joining and posting here. Its simply not there, no matter what I use to look for it. Just not there..
I would really like device maintenance back.. that's how iv got it disabled at the moment.
I am referring to the 'that found/restart device" warning that flags up in device maintenance.

Strange, there should be a folder at system/app/SecurityLogAgent
What firmware version are you on? What have you used to look for it?
I'm on 6.0.1, that I rooted on Sunday after I accidentally updated package disabler. I am a complete noob and have managed to just about get to this point without help.
I have looked for it using titanium backup, root browser and device control. It doesn't show on any...
So I have disabled a load of other things including device maintenance, com.samsung.andoid.sm.devicesecurity, and security manager service...
I was hoping one of these was the equivalent of securitylogagent.
Does this information below help?

So by the build number I see that you are not on a Verizon firmware so the app names may be different. It appears you have UK firmware so you will have to find what the app name is for that firmware.
What I can suggest is that the next time you get the notification, long press on the icon at the left. You should be taken to the notification options for that app and you should also see an app info button on the right. you may be able to track the actual app down using this info or at least disable notifications.
Thanks for your reply.
Oh crap, I'll never find it then...
Is there a way I could post an image of my system so as some experienced members on here may look at it.??
Thanks again.
