Help! GA6163F USB Pinout - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hi All,
Long time listener but first time poster. I recently installed a Eonon ga6163f into a Mazda 3 and have a customer ROM image running after a load of reading and trial and error. All seems reasonably good considering the hardware isn't new nor that capable by todays standards. I am going for it and looking to include a DAB+ USB adapter. I do not have any HA to USB cables and aren't able to find a source for these. I will need to roll my own.
Would anyone be kind enough to share the USB pinout - maybe a close up photo of the cable on the HA side that plugs into the 'H' port of the ga6163f?
Any details of where each pin goes, such as if it is for USB1 or USB2.
I have only been able to find snippets of details but not enough to clearly figure out which port is USB1 or USB2 and the corresponding VCC, GND or data pins for each USB port. There also looks to be an RCAish looking lead in that cable bundle also. No idea what that one is for either but I don't think I'll be needing it.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,

HTC ExtUSB Extension Lead? Custom USB Leads?

Has anyone ever come across a male to female ExtUSB extension lead?
Google and ebay throughs up nothing. Perhaps someone knows of a company (UK ideally) that makes bespoke USB cables? I think I'm going out on a limb with this one.
First, I dont have any exact solution for your problem, but I'm wondering, why are you looking for that?
If you were to do an extension on the data cable, you can get yourself a standard USB extension lead, and have the data cable extended.
If you were to do an extention on the audio cable, you can get those extUSB-to-3.5/2.5mm audio-jack and get a standard audio cable/earphone for the job.
UPDATE: Ok, I see what you are trying to do in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342382
Can you elaborate the 3-in-1 thing you mentioned there? it is just a splitter/hub, which uses extUSB for all?
Great investigative work Hanmin. As you saw the objective is a car 'install' with one wire leading to the device (kaiser), and the 3-in-1 adtaper hidden away. So the extension needs to be about 1meter and carry the HTC ExtUSB spec of power and audio signal (hands free doesn't matter to me though).
In actual fact, a 3-in-1 adapter with a 20cm lead would be sufficient, but none of them seem to be longer than 5cm.
The extension can be found here. Or image attached.

Anyone come up with an EXTUSB extension cable? I'd really like to have just one cable coming out of the phone when in the car, and keep the splitters tucked away neatly behind the dashboard.

I just ordered two of them, but haven't received them yet. They emailed that they shipped from Honk Kong the next day. however!
Hope this might work for you!
***UPDATE*** I just received the cables today (1/4/08). Just what the doctor ordered! I use it with the Motorola Mini-USB "Y" adapter SKN6222A to power both my phone and a bluetooth GPS head from the same power plug. The extension lets me keep the phone mounted on a dash vent and the GPS on the top of the dashboard.
Posted in the thread linked above as to why that doesnt work for me, anyone come up with a way to extend the 11pin extusb? Im crap with a soldering iron, but if it comes to it...
Im in the exact same boat as the OP, have the 3 in 1 and it looks horrible with the 3 cables dangling out of it, want it hidden behind the dash.
Again, not exactly what you are looking for but maybe of use. The Brodit HTC Touch Pro Holder with 3-in-1 Adapter (http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=173938) is a mount with an included 15cm extUSB to 3 port adapter. Not sure if the 40cm cable is long enough, but it could be taken off of the mount i would think. A bit of a waste to have to buy a mount just to get a cable, but might be your best option.
I don't understand why no-one has made an extUSB extension cable or a longer extUSB to 3 port cable.
german company sells the plugs, so you could make your own cable...
wanna order a few and let us know how it turns out?

Hey all. I resell ProClip products and have been trying to help out some customers with solutions for their Hero in the car. Looks like no one has any stock solutions for a longer cable to create a cleaner install outside of buying one of these:
ww_w._proclipusa.com/image.aspx/media/images/products/devicecradle/843773.jpg-225x
(sorry. can't post links yet. how do I go about getting verified?)
and disassembling the cable. So who'd be interesting in buying that 15.75" cable separately? I'm working on getting them to sell the cable separately. That'll be the first solution for HTC owners. My second attempt is getting them to make an adjustable holder for HTC phones and see if they can make the height of the connector adjustable. Since they'll never make that kind of cradle for all HTC phones, at least they can cover all their bases with that type of cradle.
Let me know if anyone has interest, and I can keep you posted.

i will be keen on the extension cable! I have the same problem as trying to hide the fm transmitter and also an adaptor (to charge the fmtalk & phone at the same time...) in the car.

I would love to buy an extension cable

Generic USB-Slave to USBhost converter

Quite a lot PDAs supporting USB-host, but for only a few an adapters or appropriate cables from the manufactures are available.
As these devices support USB-Slave as well I would like to know if there's a way to convert the USB male connector (used as slave e.g. for sync with the PC) to a USB-host female in order to connect accessories (keyboard, mass-storage devices...).
According to wikipedia the configuration of the pins shouldn't differ too much for slave and host mode.
Pls. see attachement, that's what I found regarding this question. It's a picture showing a similar configuration (as new user I'm not allowed to post external links, thanks to ab21cn
from xdaflameusers)
But it's a male-to-male converter and furthermore a converter from "big usb" to micro (mini?) usb. As there're already standard converters for the different sizes of USB I would like to start with the biggest size and to buy the appropriate converter as needed.
Does anyone has a circuit diagram or any other idea for such a generic converter?
Try adapters made for Nokie N800 series
I had a Nokia 770 a couple of years ago. It came as USB device only with mini USB connector, but online I found how to upgrade the software to USB host, and use a cable adapter. The plans I found online involved a 9V battery and 5V voltage regulator inside a metal case (they used a penguin mints case). I built one of those, even using the penguin mints case, and it worked fine.
I have never seen any indication that my HTC phone would work the same, but I am guessing that it might, if the USB host drivers are available.
Google couldn't locate the penguin mints-based converter I originally found, but this seems to be a similar circuit diagram.
Edit: Found it!
thx
thanks for the links. but i'm a little bit afraid of connecting something to my pda which has an own power supply, the risk of a burn-out is given. i've got a nautiz x5 with 4400mA battery which should have enough energy to supply usb-power to connected devices.
I think I'm going to contact the manufacture of my device, maybe this works for me, but a generic adapter would be of use for anyone.
the chips used for usb should be of the shelf as i don't think each manufacture develops an own logic for usb... but this doesn't imply that the cabeling is standard too.
what the heck makes manufactures providing features in their products which the users can't take advantage of?
do you mean using keyboards and so on on ppc?
because it's so simple if ur phone has a mini usb plug (the one u plug the power adapter into). i found a cable that plug into that and plugs a normal usb cable in on the other side and blam been typing on my phone using a desktop keyboard. it depends how much power your device requires however. i wish there was some software to feed a video line out so i could watch videos on pair of vizors that wud be rad. all i can find is a mini-sd card converter now whats the point of that. guess i need an itouch
yes
primary i want to connect usb mass storage devices to my pocket pc. gamecontroller or keyboard would be a good thing too.
my devices doesn't have a standard usb plug, the only thing i got is a adapter from the properitary plug of my device to standard usb male connector, but this is meant for usb-slave use only.
the underlying qeustion is, if there's a way to convert usb-slave to usb-host using the same pins. if it needs an additonaly pin then i don't see a way to convert it as i don't know anything about the pins cableing of my properitary plug.
a week ago i found an adapter which was able to convert the male usb to another male usb... but it didn't work.
the problem is compareable to datatransfer between two pcs via usb - it's possible, but only using properiatry hardware and drivers...
so i think there's no way to solve this problem in a generic way.
out of interest, do you already have windows CE drivers for the device to act as a host and mass storage? I wouldnt mind them if you can point me somewhere..
how to check if my htc (touch2) ca use usb host?

[Q] Connector Pinout and raw connector source?

Hey There,
I've seen the pinout for the original Galaxy Tab, does anyone know if this one is the same?
Or if not, anyone know where I could find a pinout for the thing? I might try calling Samsung but I have no idea how much time that will take or if its worth it.
Also, anybody know where to source the raw connectors?
Thanks!
Pinout should be the same since cables and accessories for the 7" work with the 10.1 as well
Here is the thread that has the Tab pinout
Cool, thanks. Now I just need to source that connector...
I would assume some pins are the same but expect many have changed. Since our device has HDMI and USB hosting, there are probably some differences. I would love to be able to make or buy a breakout cable that had everything possible out of it. Right now all the official accessories look to do only one thing at a time.
And I have beef with any accessory that calls themselves a media dock and then doesn't have multimedia outputs. Had to get that out there
Well,
I finally found a source for some connectors:
http://www.kineteka.com/galaxy-tab-connector.aspx
and they have a breakout board:
http://shop.kineteka.com/products/200-samsung-tabbreakout.aspx
I've ordered one of each and will report back.
They clearly say "Galaxy Tab" and not Galaxy Tab 10.1, but if its the same connector, it should be fine.
Though I agree that our unit most likely has more outputs. It would be really nice to figure out what those are! I have a thread at the Samsung Innovator website about it:
http://innovator.samsungmobile.com/...ate=&endDate=&searchTypeForm=&searchTextForm=
But I feel like they won't tell us. I may have to buy the USB host adapter and the HDMI adapters and crack them open.
Anyway, I'll try to figure this out. If anyone else knows, please fill me in!
-Taylor
In the kernel, drivers/accessory/30pin_con.c:
if (acc_adc != false) {
if ((2600 < acc_adc) && (2800 > acc_adc)) {
env_ptr = "ACCESSORY=OTG";
acc->current_accessory = ACCESSORY_OTG;
The acc_adc is the arbitrarily scaled resistor value on the ID pin. I think there might be a place in sysfs to read this out, so you could wire up a potentiometer and work out the real resistor value for this range (2600-2800). You can use ADBWireless to get a shell while you are messing with the connector.
Once in OTG mode, the USB D+/D- pins used by the sync cable should become USB host.
Ah, I was afraid of that, I know plenty of mobile devices work that way. I was really hoping it had two separate ports like some other tablets, so I can use my accessory and the USB host port at the same time. I may have to do some juggling then, grr.
Thanks for getting that info though! I'll try that with my breakout board when it comes in (if they ever ship the damn thing...).
In another post, a guy put 20K ohms between Pin 13 and Pin 15 and got the Tab to go into host mode. Then the following for the other pins
Pin 1 (GND)> Black
Pin 3 (D+) > Green
Pin 4 (D-) > White
Pin 6 (+5v)> Red
If anyone figures out how to get HDMI out, please share.

[Q] What is inside the HDMI adapter?

I want to build a breakout cable with everything possible that the Tab can input and output. From another visitor of this forum I have gotten what is needed for USB hosting but I would like to know what is needed for HDMI out. If someone that gets this could crack it open for the world to see, it would be greatly appreciated.
And if you could go the next set to ohm out each pin, that would be fantastic!

I think there's an HDMI transmitter chip inside the HDMI dongle. I'm pretty sure that's not something you want to tackle on your own. Better to try to add USB to the HDMI dongle instead.
The only thing you need for USB hosting is a 20k ohm resister. I have a few blank 30pin connectors on the way and I don't want to spend $40 to find out all I need is a 40k ohm resister and a switch.

Need OTG Advice/Information

Hello,
Long time lurker. First time poster.
I have a 10.1 Note Model # SM-P600 that I have set up in my car. Currently, the charging works fine via micro USB to engine/ignition accessory. Now that I have the initial steps completed, I am looking to add more stuff to the setup. I purchased a USB hub in order to connect a few different devices (USB DAC, External HDD, Camera, etc) along with a few different OTG cables. So far, I have not had any luck charging the device (although, I am able to access devices connected to the hub via the OTG cable). I understand that this is a common problem, and it seems that it has been solved on some devices (Nexus 7) by installing different kernel's and USB ROMs (not sure what this is?). However, I have only seen one bit of information in regards to the SM-P600, and that is the BinDroid kernel that I have found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2615959&highlight=otg
I flashed the kernel correctly (I believe, I see the kernel information showing up in my device information), but I am still not having any luck getting the device to charge while having the other pieces of equipment attached. Can anyone give me some good solid info on this problem? I thought I'd be able to install the kernel and that would fix my issue, but maybe I'm missing a few steps? Do I need to install something else? I am currently on the stock ROM, version 4.3. I was thinking about putting CM10.x on the tablet, but I don't think that it's supported...? I need a bit of clarity on that as well.
Please help if you can. Thanks!
P600 needs 2A current. I think when you attach other equipment to the USB hub, it may not be able to provide enough current to note so it will not charge. I am not an electrical engineer so someone with more knowledge can of course prove me wrong
Generally when your device is connected with an OTG cable, your device is working in as a USB host supplying power to the devices. In your case, your Note will try to supply power to the USB hub. Even if your USB hub is powered by a separate adapter, your Note will not attempt to charge as it is in USB host mode.
You might wanna take a look at this mod.
