Question Gcam for X80 pro - Vivo X80 Pro

Hello,
I have the X80 pro with the European Funtouch OS.
I am not too happy with the colours (although it was overcast today, maybe that's to blame) of the default setting or Zeiss Natural Colours.
I'd like to try the Gcam but when I google for it, there seem to be so many sources and I don't know which to trust.
Can you reccomend one?
Thanks!

I have the same opinion. I move to Vivo from OnePlus6. When shooting objects the pictures are excellent - for example in the buildings city, persons, .... Night photos are beautiful.
Unfortunately I am not satisfied with the performance of the camera when shooting the landscape. In my point of view the pictures at an infinite focus distance are not very good. In some cases the colors of picture seem not nice to me. I would also welcome more settings in the camera, such as disabling digital zoom.
I would also like to try different camera app. I tried several versions of GCAM but none was completely reliable. Thank you.

Have you guys tried open camera? or HedgeCam 2?
what kind of results are you getting?

Thank you for the tip for the camera application. I quickly tried the OpenCamera application and you can see a big difference in image processing. OpenCamera has the possibility to store photos in PNG format that seems to me to be the best. The size of the file is greater of course but it would not bother me. Unfortunately, OpenCamera has no opportunity to switch lenses.
It would be nice if Vivo create the possibility of PNG into a standard application or store JPG in higher quality. I know the VivoCamera has the opportunity to store high-resolution images but unfortunately there are no other settings in this mode.
I tried to make a comparison pic but I don't know how much it will see on forum. For example note the detail of the branches on the trees. VivoCamera may have more detail but there is a loss of quality in JPG processing - something like noise.

Hi, try BSG Google Camera port, all lens work and pictures are definetely better is some scenario

Hi clone.x. Thank you for the tip for GCAM by MGC. Definitely the best image quality of all camera applications I have tried so far. I set the best possible JPG quality and the result is fantastic. I was surprised by the performance of the telephoto lens - very nice. See attached pictures.
The only disadvantage I have noticed so far is the slower switching of lenses. At the moment of switching the camera seems to turn off and the screen is lost and immediately jumps again. Original VivoCamera doesn't do it. But I don't mind, the quality of photos is more important for me.
I think this has definitely been confirmed that problem is the VivoCamera software. Vivo should still work and maybe in the future software will be as good as the Vivo X80Pro hardware.

Thanks, I'll try that.

can you tell more about the GCAM compared to the stock camera?

Hi all. I add two photos taken by the GCAM night mode. The first is a wide lens 0.6-1x and second is a telephoto lens 5.4-2x. The exposure lasted about 2.5min but the result is unprecedented. Note on a wide picture how far is the building that is taken on the second picture with an optical zoom. A tripod was used of course. Hardware Vivo cameras is really excellent I think.
At GCAM it has happened to me several times that the application crashed but it did not bother me. The quality of the images is definitely better in my point of view. The only thing that bothers me a little is a longer time when you switch the lens.
I think the original VIVO camera application would help a lot if Vivo allows you to store higher quality of JPEG.

wow, this is quite incredible coming from a phone
vivo sensors are very good
thanks for sharing

Please Test this GCAM. It is for X80 Pro.

I have now received my device myself and was able to test the camera.
This camera app is the best I've seen from any manufacturer.
Even the GCAM linked above is not as good as the standard app.
For me it does not require GCAM. This is the first phone where I don't have to use it.

I only have tested the GCam for some snaps and the results were very inconsistent.
I'll have to take more shots with it.
That being said, I think the stock app is the best there is for night photos.
As for daylight, I'm curious to see whether the GCam is better. Especially colour-wise.

GCam will be always better than stock app in day and night if you know what to with it.
Gcams has lots of settings to improve picture quality.

Yes, she has. I've been using the GCAM for years.
And I can say for myself that I don't need one for the x80.
The only GCAM that works properly is the latest LMC.
By the way, every GCAM makes images that are too dark. The exposure is wrong.

Can you put here examples gcam vs stock.

in the light the difference is not that big. Then more in the dark.
GCAM is LMC with some settings on the main lens for a good result. By default, the picture doesn't look that good.
Stock-Cam with Zeiss Mode.

I found the mistake. I was using an XML config for the OP9Pro and this was the problem in the dark. Found the setting for it.
I just got the other lenses up and running now I have to configure them. But that will take a while because it is very extensive.

Rhodium HTC Pro 2 Camera quality very low

The camera quality is very low.
Anyone know software or procedure to improve quality ?
What do you mean, by very low? I find it quite okay for a 3.15 mp. It's not like the 5mp of the diamond 2, or those on nokia phones, but you don't buy a touch pro 2 for the camera, you know?
The only bad photos I've seen from the TP2 are when there's low lighting--the picture gets noise, distortions. Maybe if you posted one of yours and explained how you wanted it improved someone could give you some tips. Otherwise I'd recommend trying some shots in good lighting and see if you get better results.
I've never seen anyone demonstrate the 3.2mp camera of the TP2 has noticeably worse quality than the 5mp camera on D2 with side-by-sides taken under the same conditions. For the sake of people for whom picture quality is important, you'd think some blog would've given that a shot.
There is a good comparison with the HD here (you all would have seen this anyway).
I found if you change the Quality to Super Fine and increase the Sharpness to +5 under Image Properties you will squeeze a little more out of it.
Under poor lighting, you can try and tilt the device around and watch the screen while the lens gains and loses light exposure. Sometimes a small adjustment in camera angle makes all the difference.
Still auto focus and macro functionality is so much better than my Trinity.
It is what is is but I find it pretty good.
Check out the two images attached that I took on the weekend, for a phone cam it's not bad. Definitely better than the majority of 5MP phone cams out there (they pretty much all have the same rubbish sensor anyway.) These were taken with all the settings on standard (didn't know there was a super fine lol)

I'm amazed at the amount of noise in those TP2 shots, even the outdoor ones. That's not something I've seen in other outdoor shots from the TP2.
There are a number of reasons why the quality is bad on the Pro 2 which I am trying to work out.
1) You cannot change the capture format from JPEG, this means that JPEG compression is noticeably visible. There must be a way to change this otherwise they would not show this option
2) Metering mode algorithms - They suck! simple as that. My Sony Ericsson W800i was better at taking photos than this.
3) Sharpness - you have to play around with it as I have a feeling you either need less of it or more.
4) Resolution - I learnt from my previous phone LG Viewty (5MP) that not always the largest resolution is the best to use on all occasions. So I advise testing out the same shots but in different resolutions, I stuck with 1MP.
I think the camera has potential but the algorithms on the cam driver doesn't perform well enough for such a high end device.
How to compensate for noisy and grainy photos:
Install Noiseware for Windows
Reduce your photo like you should be doing anyway to about 50% of it's original size.
What I do is import my photos into photoshop automatically when the device is connected and I use an action to reduce all the photos in batch processes, then if I want to I'll use Noiseware to reduce some of the noise out from the photo. (Free version you have to do that manually not in PS)
Windows Mobile has Windows Update so I am pretty sure that when Windows 6.5 is officially released there will be some form of a firmware upgrade or service pack that will improve the camera quality, if not then I'm sure the cam driver is accessible for us to edit. Most likely the algorithms would be in hexadecimal format.
I honestly dont think its bad at all, but then personally I didnt buy it with the camera as one of the reasons, but for facebook etc its pretty damn good for the MP.
It is afterall a business device not a SLR.
haha it's a camera phone. The photos are supposed to be shoddy.
Those shots were taken absolutely stock with no tweaking, they are noisy, because it is a phone with a camera unit smaller than a 10p piece and a lense which is minute. They are nowhere near as noisy as in that comparison review posted and so I question the authors ability.
If you buy a phone for a camera then I really do pity you as at best the results are always going to be shocking, i.e the best camera phone is pretty much on par with the average £50 digital camera.
Can we get more users posting some test images?
Im currently deciding on a new phone and this has been on my mind, those comparison shots are pretty shoddy >< dazkeirle loo fine though
Tip: remove back cover and make sure the lense is clean!
Could it be register related?
If so, i took a peek at my registery value for the camera in:
HKLM>Drivers>BuiltIn>Camera>
My sensor type says 4100. Maybe there a different types ?
Maybe it's nothing, maybe it is.

How good is the camera?

I am thinking of getting a Defy as a free upgrade to my Hero. Reviews of camera seem mixed but general impression is that it's not brilliant, especially in low light. Interested to hear the views of people here.
You can compare the photos from defy with various other phones, including N8, iPhone4 on gsmarena site. Just click on some of the latest reviews, doesnt matter which phone, and go to the camera section of the review. There is a photo compare tool.
Thanks. That was helpful but I am more interested in the low light performance.

I was pleasantly suprised with the quality of the flash. up to a metre or 2 it is very effective and doesn't wash out the photo like some others. All in all I am pleases with the camera - thats just my opinion though.
Thanks. I am almost certainly going to get one. The nagging doubt in the back of my mind is the speaker issue. Difficult to know how much of a problem it really is. People who don't have the issue (obviously) don't post to forums
None of those Cell Cameras are that cool in low light compared to a DSLR. What would really help is a camera app that writes out a dng file so that one can properly posprocess this in say Lightroom/Photoshop/Noiseware.
Just for completeness shake, the camera module seems to be a MT9PT012 ...

IMHO - flash and camera is pretty awful. Here's a shot with flash, I even gave it +20 brightness in Gimp:

Then again, I might be spoiled by these babies:
Ironically - That was shot with my HTC Desire
I guess the Defy's camera is just below cell-phone average. It should't be your only camera, but for "Hey this looks fun!" shots it'll do fine.
I really like my defy but, honestly, the camera is not the best part.
Also the display looks not so brilliant as the desire's one.
I'm not saying they're bad, just they're not wonderful, but considering defy's price it's absolutely fair.
Well, one thing none of the others can do is H2Oing it. I just filmed in water, definitely better results than any other phone attempting the same
I'm using the Camera360 app. There is a filter called "Effect enhancement". If i you this one, the pictures look better - the ones taken in short range. Ok, they do look a bit "artifical", but for me its ok. There is a "free" version of that app for trying out...
The Defy is not the first Android i bought, but it will be the first Android, which will not be sold again. I really like this phone...
Maybe there will be some kind of camera-optimization. Until then, i will take my digi-cam for "more important" pictures to make.
Best regards
Stefan
Here is sample picture, resized, with flash and taken with camera360 app.
This was taken with a Galaxy S
This was taken with the Defy, different day so not a direct comparison. The weather was worse and it was cloudy. Hope this give you an idea of comparison though.
Defy on macro with flash
Defy with macro no flash. Shows good detail.
thanks
Photos aren't that great but they're not awful. I do find that the built in editing (kodak perfect touch) does an excellent job though. The macro mode and color reproduction aren't as good as my vibrant. But overall im satisfied.

What about Videos in 720p ?
Anyone succeed to take videos in 720p with Froyo 2.2 ?
have you tryed the kodak perfect touch option?? It's excelent! for night pics, and remember to use the "night" mode in dark places
imo, It's good++
I took pictures with it for the first time today. I did not like the quality of the pictures. My first impressions:
Pros: The LED flash is bright and puts my old BB Curve to shame. You could use it to blind a night time attacker if you could instantly turn it on with an external button.
The interface to take pictures is pretty good and easy to use.
Cons:
-Colors are muddy and off color even when shot outdoors.
-Colors with the flash are not automatically corrected and show up with the blue/white color cast of the LED flash.
-Color space compression is very noticable with banding visible under various conditions.
-Slow to take a picture because it does not focus until you click the onscreen button to take the photo.
I thought video was better on balance than the camera but it is rather poor in low light (as expected). I hope that I will learn to get better results with it after more testing but I'm glad it's not a primary reason for me to own the Defy.
-felipe
What about 720p videos?
Could someone try it?with froyo??
I found the camera pretty good in comparaison of my old phone.
But there's a hudge miss on the native camera app: you cannot change the JPG compression and by default it's very very compressed! Some have their 5Mpxl pictures that takes around 300kB (it should be 1.5MB at least!).
Maybe if someone know a way to change this settings it would be nice for improving the quality of the final picture
I really like the Vignette app for the camera, it's old school styles go rather well with the "performance" of the camear

I don't have Gcam samples to show only stock camera photos. These have however been edited by me in the Photos app some of them more than others. Gcam pictures have less megapixels but have more details in them specially in low light but colors can be weird with Gcam and the dynamic range is not good with it compared to stock. I have not found a Gcam version that gives me better photos to work with than the stock app really. Gcam needs to be optimized for the A70. Now it's inconsistent. Here are some samples what stock camera is capable of if you know how to edit photos as they can look bland straight from camera. Mixed 12mp and 32mp photos. Full size can be downloaded.

Yeah, it seems like this GCam isn't really 'working'
It's a really old version. 5.x the newer versions are in the 6.2.x I believe.
No nightsight in this one.
And if hdr+ isn't working it's useless to use it above the stock cam
So this thread basically exists because people can't believe Huawei made their app work better than Gcam?

Yes! I expressed myself poorly, I believe that Huawei software is very good, but GCam is superior in some issues, such as HDR + and photos of people.
It's all about algorithms.
Google is good in it.
But... I love the night mode on my p30 pro.
Google didn't beat that yet.
So yes, for Google gcam is great.
For some other brands also.
But for the p30 not yet.
And I think it will never be.
Because of the hardware (Kirin processor)
It's too different from Google phones

Well at the moment the best HDR are coming from Samsung's S10 phones.
Gcam underexposses to much
Thinks have improved in latest updated 164
IMHO in default mode at least the HDR is waaaaay too aggressive. Google is making it look more natural, and it works its magic with normal photos too, while with regular photos (without night mode) on the P30 Pro it appears like the camera is taking just one photo. There's more denoising going on in the background (water color look) than on my old LG V20 using GCam, and that's despite a smaller, older sensor and a slower lens too. The LG V20 photo is sharper, more detailed, has no water color effect and just looks much more realistic. Obviously Huawei has the tech, when you look at night mode. It just needs to gather the needed photos faster in good light conditions.
If you can live with pure jpeg's from the Google Camera on Huawei's P20 Pro and P30 Pro then it's great, i actually have two Google Camera ports installed on both my P20 Pro and P30 Pro for just quick jpeg snapshots. They produce some lovely looking jpeg files which have almost no sharpening applied and very little to none noise reduction. But when it comes to RAW files, then the standard Huawei camera app is hard to beat so far. It does a great job and if you can handle the files it outputs you will get stunning results.
One does not rule out the other if i say so, use both for maximum camera performance.
/ Magnus
I installed a new'ish Google Camera port on my older P20 Pro yesterday and tested it, this is a 100% crop without any post processing applied. Pretty clean and detailed jpeg shot and i like the little amount of noise left in the photo. Click to view the full image.

Then you haven't seen how a similar shot with the standard camera application on the P30 Pro looks like, it lacks a lot more detail than this one because of the heavy noise reduction which makes it look like a water colour painting. The noise is not really a issue in this photo, it simply adds fine detail to the shot when you look at it as a whole.

No I haven't seen a similar shot because you didn't provide one. I take a lot of photos with my P30 Pro and apart from minor colour issues I have never had a problem.

I installed a new'ish Google Camera port on my older P20 Pro yesterday and tested it, this is a 100% crop without any post processing applied. Pretty clean and detailed jpeg shot and i like the little amount of noise left in the photo. Click to view the full image.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Xiaomi Mi A3 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
overall quality is excellent. it's flagship-like. the only nit picking I can find is an overall slight softness in the RAW files, and noticeable distortion around the corner/edges. However, it's not egregious and the overall especially low light performance is truly excellent if not the tops. Having that Sony IMX sensor really does wonders in low light, and color renditions are generally excellent as well. I can't wait to have a GCam port for A3. I used a redmi note7 port but the colors tend to oversaturate with rmn7's gcam app. Focus has been quick, though I think the software lacks a bit of polish when it comes to face recognition, something I hope they'll fix, or become fixed with a Gcam port.
The photo qualities are excellent. I can't complain, especially for the price.

Manual camera test at morning light at 5:58 AM,
Observings :
1) Photo got brightened up, by bumping bumping ISO, as the result photo is a bit grainy.
2) Phone screen displayed much punchier image by boosting Contrast and saturation , but the actual photo when uploaded to PC was quite natural.
3) Image size 2.3 MB, image taken through Stock cam. In good lighting conditions Stock cam is able give more control than gcam :cyclops:, gcam needs to be optimized for our A3..hope future gcams support be good
Manual Settings :
All AUTO, Focus - set to manual.

Could you share some DNG raw files?
Thanks!
Camera is amazing especially with that Ultrawide lens. You won't be disappointed at all
Awesome Camera quality for the price
Yeah, I'm using this phone for about 10 days now, and I must say the pictures from those cameras are very good. Even the selfie cam produces sharp photos with good colors. And the video from front cam is crispy. Didn't test video footage from back camera but I'm sure it'll be impressive too. I installed GCam & the picture quality got a solid upgrade (both main & front cameras), color processing, dynamic range everything got even better. Very satisfied

Did you find any Christian?
Please can anyone tell how much is the max exposure time (shutter speed) you can do with the rear and front camera?
And it does come with cam2api enabled by default?

It comes with cam2api. On Android 9 max for rear camera was 32 secs, at the moment on Android10 it's 0.5 secs (I just hope Xiaomi will fix this).
