I have replaced my screen and fingerprint reader is not working.
Using the google tool, I can connect to my phone and search for fingerprint recalibration software
I click install software and receive this message:
Couldn't find the unique calibration software for this device
How do I get my fingerprint reader working again?
Several other users in this section found out the hard way that they have to get the fingerprint reader replaced at the same time as the screen.

Hi! You may have already located answers for this, but I can tell you that this happened to me a few months ago. I did not know that replacing the P6P screen resulted in loss of fingerprint sensor functionality. You won't have your fingerprint sensor back as that calibration tool doesn't seem to fix the problem.
However, there is an excellent solution called the Universal Face Unlock (search it here on XDA) which I installed, and it works much better than the fingerprint sensor did. I'd say it works about 90% of the time (dark or lower light not as well) but it is a great work-around! Give it a try

Hi,
I've searched high and wide for a solution (other than sending it back to Motofailure repair) and am failing at finding one so far. So I'm hoping I can get some help from here.
So, this is the situation: I make a call, screen instantly turns dark and will only light up again when I press on the area where the light (&) proximity sensor is.
I've already tried the following.
1.) Done a factory reset (3x) - with mem card, with reformatted mem card, w/o mem card.
2.) Clearing the dust on the earpiece hole using an air duster.
3.) There were times that I worked properly after I've uninstalled apps but the issue came about again after a couple of tries.
So, now I'm thinking that I might want to root my Defy to set things right. I'm quite familiar with RSD Lite as I've used it before on my RAZR2 V8.
A bit of background: I bought my Defy on pre-order so this is one of the earlier models. I had the earpiece problem and sent it to Motofailure repair and the whole process took a month (32 days to be exact - long story. I'm avoiding having to send this PoS back. They updated the software when I got it back.
As far as I can recall, I didn't had this problem before the earpiece problem. And I'm thinking it might be a software problem hence I'm now looking at a solution by rooting and flashing the ROM with an original one.
I have no way of finding out (as far as I know) whether this is a hardware problem (hence hesitating to have it sent back to Motofailure repair).
What I've also observed is that when there is direct bright light, it works normally but when its dim, then the problem appears.
I don't have any screen protectors, just so you know.
Can anyone advise me on what to do?
During a call proximity sensor is activated to turn off the screen at the moment it detects proximity and asumes you are using the phone against your hear, so it turns off screen to save energy.
I think you might have some app installed in your phone, using and reversing the sensor status so it detects proximity when there isnt, and viceversa
You might want to try removing apps using that sensor and see if problem gets solved, there is also an app in the masket called sanity; which makes extensive use of proximity sensor for vaqrious things, and have an option to reverse proximity sensor, you might want to try it and see if problem gets fixed.
You might try this things: remove apps using proximity sensor, test phone. Deactivate in pocket detection; test phone, and install sainity, test phone, install a new rom?
If speaker is bigger than original one, or there was an assembly error, light/proximity sensor won't fit into right place.
I've seen such reports and you can't do anything unless you open up thing and check the problem, but you haven't seen the right assembly so you may not know the right place.
Are you using any screen protector? I know some screen protectors cause this problem.
Edit: Nevermind, I see that you're not using any.
how to calibrate the proximity sensor?
My new defy 's proximity sensor seems cannot work correctly, when i making a call ,the screen shut off immediately, and the screen could not light on by any key,but when i touch the proximity sensor with my finger, the screen may be light on!
so i download a app to test the proximity sensor which name's"Android sensor data",this app fingue out the state of proximity sensor,"near" or "far",sometimes I just passing my finger over the proximity sensor, the reading will show 'near' and then remain 'near' even when my finger is moved away!
Can anyone else help me to calibrate the proximity sensor?google told me some android phone can do this ,such as htc, zte etc.
goole tell me android phone have some standard testcode, such as *#*#4636#*#* can show the phone statue,it works correstly in Defy,*#*#0588#*#* test the proximity sensor ,but it doesn't work in defy!!!
I don't think this issue could be solved trough software tweaks. Chances are this is a hardware problem. Maybe you should contact the Motorola support.
try disabling in-pocket detection
have the same problem. it started 2 days ago. Im using CM7. It just turns dark and wont wake up unless someone else is calling me. Just got it tested, and when i cover the sensor with my finger it says 0cm distance for long time.
I've tried data wipe and similar, but nothing helped so far.
EDIT: I've just tried wiping the place where proximity sensor is with some soft cloth and alcohol and for the time being, it works. O.O
Could Wipe Dalvik help?
I have recently got my phone back from repair and I have done some tests on it. It seems the magnetic sensor isn't working, most compasses don't work and ones that do are way off and seem to be using the gyro not the magnetic sensor. Hardware test apps report the sensor as there but no readings. Also the pedometer does seem to work either in the fitbit app as it does not register any steps.
I have used the Sensor List app from the store and these seem to be the only 2 not working. Is this just me or does anybody else have this problem?

just you mate all mine working fine
What did you use to determine they are working? I have used the native hardware test using the code *#*#3424#*#* and it seems to fail there too. Apparantly the hall sensor test which is the magnetic sensor is supposed to show the clock when a magnet is put near a blue square on the screen. On mine it doesn't, but instead it turns the screen off and I can hear a click . However the magnet is fairly powerful so it maybe affecting something else. There doesn't seem to be a pedometer test and all the other tests seem fine.
Thanks
Hi everyone, I had to replace my screen because it broke, however now the fingerprint does not work!, no unlock screen, apps, etc.
I have removed the fingerprint and put it back and it does not work, I have also tried to calibrate the fingerprint but the engineer mode chrashes when I try to run the manual test, but I discovered something interesting, when I add the fingerprint accepts it without problem, and if I want to try to add it again (without previously deleting it) tells me that i cannot add that fingerprint because it is already registered!.
What I can do?

Maybe, i had read of cases that after breaking the screen, the fingerprint stopped working and they ended up sending the phone to oneplus for repair and they did a recalibration, but I can't, I don't live in the United States or China I'm searching for the solution
i recently tested custom roms... and rooted my p6p but somehow the fingerprint reader doesb't sense my finger when it's in lockscreen and only work after i wake the phone up... anyone has ideas what's causing it?
Restarting your device can fix some minor issues like unstable Wi-Fi, a frozen program, or a faulty fingerprint sensor. So the best solution for your fingerprint sensor might be to reset it.

Since you are running a custom ROM, the best person to ask is the creator of that ROM. See if maybe other people running the ROM have the same issue. Since you are not running Stock and haven't even mentioned which ROM you use, it's hard to help you here in any way.

I am not running custom rom but that fingerprint reader problem is on mine too and its sporadic. The reader would work fine after a reset/flash, days later it would bug out. I have to tap once or lift the phone to activate the screen for the reader to work. Rebooting the phone a few times would get it to work again but its random.
I've noticed on AOD the fingerprint reader doesn't respond while in a smartlock area and i have to press power to get to lockscreen then fpr works (or it shows me unlocked by smartlock depending if it's been 4 hours) . Can others confirm/rebut that theirs only does this in smartlock zones and not in the wild (or if you bt smartlock whether or not being connected causes this)
so i rooted and went back to stock OS. It didn't work in AOD. After several reboots, it started to work again..... this is crazy

Yeah, its a crapshoot if it will remain working the next time you restart.
I have just replaced my screen as my other developed a random crack in it... No I didn't drop it and it wasn't huge but I'm anal and ocd so I bought a replacement.
The replacement seemed to go well although I did get some of the factory glue on the sensor. I carefully cleaned it with microfiber and isopropyl alcohol. It looked good. Attached it to my new screen and connected the cable.
It seemed fine. Before glueing my new display down I tested it and the display worked but it didn't even see my fingerprint sensor. Reseated it multiple times and I've had no luck.
The fingerprint calibration won't work and it reports my version is too new. I'm tempted to factory reset but I don't know if it will work and I don't want to if I can help it. Any thoughts? It just doesn't see it at all.

Yes, this is a known issue. And it happened to me as well in February. My phone slipped off my desk and caused a big crack at the top corner, and me being anal like you, I took it to the local authorized screen repair. I didn't research beforehand, and learned that replacing the screen breaks the fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint calibration software doesn't seem to work for most people. What I learned is that it's a software issue and could be fixed with a software update. I haven't seen any update since then as there is still no fix.
I look forward to any others' feedback or knowledge because with no Face ID and no fingerprint unlock it gets annoying unlocking via PIN all the time.

I hoped for the best with it. I guess it's better than having a cracked screen but even this triggers me. Did you try a factory reset?
Have you tried installing a custom ROM? I'm currently using Spark OS and it has Face-ID enabled. I ran into the same problem but since I got face id I even forgot my phone had a fingerprint sensor haha

I know it's a little late but when something like this happens, its best to contact Google. There have been many reports of people getting replacements for small cracks or screens that won't turn on.
As for your issue - this is a known problem with the calibration tool. Some users have stated it takes 20 tries (on a windows system) in order to get it to work. A few also stated that they re-flashed Android with the web flash tool, and it worked after that.
Your last option would be to contact Google Support and see if they can provide any fix for the calibration tool.
There are a lot of users who are experiencing this issue on Google's Issue Tracker. Hopefully we'll see an update soon enough.

There wasn't really any point for me to reach out to them because I don't have insurance and it's outside of the warranty period. They'd want me to send it in for repair which is not an option because I can't be without my phone due to work. It was a crack in the screen so there wasn't any way for them to fix remotely.
Perhaps I can try the android flash tool. Just didn't want to do a factory reset.
I might look into the custom rom. I heard about a rom having face ID, so I may head that direction

You can do it without a custom ROM. It's an Xposed module. I'm not running it and it's much better than fingerprint. I don't even care anymore about my fingerprint reader.

Awesome! I shall try this out! Thanks!
Hi all! I wanted to come back to this thread and report that I installed this module yesterday and it is fantastic! After installing the June build and I installed Lsposed then the Universal Face Unlock module and it's much better than a fast fingerprint unlock! Totally worth trying out!
Wanted to share in case this helps anyone with a replaced screen or anyone who wants to try another option to FP unlock
Something similar happened to me. The solution was to use the fingerprint calibration tool and instantly reboot the phone. Not sure if it will work, but worth a shot.

I did a factory reset which didn't resolve the fingerprint detection issue after my screen replacement last week. It did resolve the "newer version" message but resetting took me back to Android 12 as I was on 12 quarterly.
The calibration tool will not download and errors out. As @roirraW "edor" ehT mentioned, there is a defect opened in bug tracker since February but no status on ETA. A user reported success downloading the calibration tool when using a Chromebook. For me, download failed on both Mac and Windows.

Since my phone was still under warranty I went into a ubreakifix and after several trips, because my spectral sensor was bad too, I now have a fully repaired phone. Everything is working great on it now. Nice to have the fingerprint sensor back but I'm still using the face unlock mod except for with banking apps and gpay.
Ubreakifix let me know that you can't successfully move your old fingerprint to a new display as it won't pair. They had to replace using a kit with the display and a new fingerprint sensor included.
Thank you!
Interesting that ubreakifix said that you can't "move" a fingerprint to a new screen. Maybe that is what they did for you since you didn't factor reset? Honestly, I don't understand much of this but I performed a full factory reset so, for me, this isn't about moving a fingerprint. What do I know though!
The screen installed on my phone has a fingerprint reader and came from the screen supplier. I have read that others successfully installed and calibrated their screens if they got the calibration tool to download. I am hoping I can do the same once Google fixes the issue with the calibration tool download. I will also borrow a Chromebook from work and give it a try on there in the interim.
Thanks again for the insight! I appreciate your response.
I think that the calibration tool only work if the fingerprint setting still available and when the enrollment fail.
If the fingerprint setting is gone seems like the sensor is damaged or not connected correctly.
I have same problem after replacing my screen, the fingerprint print setting has gone.
