Hello, have S20+ with the latest Android. Using 2x SIM card (home, work). Every contacts are synchronized to my private google account.
Curently I have 500 contacts in Google Contacts. Device shows me 518 contacts.
Sync doesn't work well. Deleted all contacts from google (500 contacts), in device are 43 contacts now. Deleted them and everything from the trash. Imported 500 contacts to google again, mobile shows me 571 contacts now.
Have this problem for some months. Sometimes I found a lot of contacts are deleted (in trash). Google shows me contacts was deleted by device ie at the night if I sleep.
- tried factory reset, didn't help
- yesterday I removed all contacts again and manually add every contact via google contacts. When 30 contacts was in google contacts, device shows me 42 contacts (a lot of duplicates again).
Any fix for that please? It's really uncomfortable. With iOS I didn't have these problems. I'm thinking about returning to iOS again!
example of duplicates in attachment.. If I go to find duplicates in device (by number, name, email), it still shows me there are no duplicates
I cleaned up some contacts and just found this:
google contacts: 488 contacts
s20 (phone app): 503 contacts
s20 (contacts app): 513 contacts
wtf?
SIM will have some carrier contacts and may have some you saved there in the past?. You may have saved some to the native or other dialler contacts before making Google the default account for contacts
Dont think the device has a problem, just think you havent realised how contacts works or realised theres carrier and dialler contacts.
Stop reimporting them and creating more issues.
Stop manually recreating them because Google will sync and create duplicates - youre creating the problem there...
Google Contacts has an option to merge and fix contacts, both in the Contacts app and in the online web page
Sign in - Google Accounts
Please never mention that locked down abomination of a phone OS again, we like freedom here...though it may be jarring to some
you're not right man..
1. don't have any contacts in SIM cards (tried both SIM in another device)
2. made factory reset (without restore backup) few times, still same problem
3. never had this problem with Android 11. It started with Android 12 I think
4. today tried delete all contacts and reimport again 4x. Everytime device showed me wrong number.
4.1 - first import shows me 28 contacts difference
4.2 - second import - 15 contacts difference
4.3 - third import - 41 contacts difference
4.4 - fourth import - 1 difference
5. if device shows me duplicates, there are no duplicates in google contacts
see attachments..

Youre seeking support for a beta? Report it to Google....thats what betas are for
sorry, made a mistake in post. It started with Android 12. Using latest official version.
1) What contact app are you using?
2) What is your default account for handling/syncing contacts
Hopefully both Google....or both Samsung
1. default samsung's app
2. my default account for syncing is google account.

Hi !
After placing/receiving calls or sending/receiving SMS, device shows the contact name from the Sim card. (The contact name that appears in the call log or SMS thread tittle).
Contact to display is set to - Phone. Still it seems the device looks into the Sim card by default, while it registers the call/SMS.
This makes the names appear shorten as they are in the Sim.
How can I set the device to look at the contacts that are store on it ??
I'm using the original Lg apps and software (Android version - 5.0)
Thanks
Same thing happened to me after I did a full reset. I have my contacts in google contacts so what I did was -
1) I deleted all my contacts (phone and google). It should also delete those in google cloud. So keep internet and sync enabled.
2) Go to contacts.google.com and restore your contacts from yeaterday(for instance). Google keeps all your contact changes from the last 30 days.
You should have Sync and internet enabled all that time on your phone during that.
It should sync the contacts and all should be working fine.
I have an Amazon Fire Phone bought from the USA and unlocked to any network but using in the UK on 3 network.
I've rooted the phone and using a different launcher + added Google Play, so for the most part it act's like most Android phones.
However one major problem I have is the device seems to keep losing the names and phone numbers of everyone I have on Gmail. It seems to retain the names and numbers of people on Facebook who have shared their phone number but the majority of my numbers (over 800 people) are stored on Gmail.
The only work around I've found is to go into gmail on my PC and export all my contacts to a VCF file (vCard format) and if the phone loses the contacts I can import them back again from the VCF file but this of course misses out any new people I've added since the last export.
Is there a 3rd party app that will manually let me resync my gmail contacts over the internet at will?
my phone is firmware: Fire OS 4.6.3 (463001620)
I'm using both the original Firephone Contacts Manager and Email software to help keep the contacts in sync with GMAIL
One of the main reasons I also like to use GMAIL to handle my contacts is I like to add photos of people to their details
I had a similar problem but it was because I froze a background system service that was involved with syncing gmail contacts. As soon as I unfroze it problem solved. So make sure you didn't freeze any system services. Sorry I forget exactly which system service it was. You could also go into account settings, delete gmail and re add it. Give it some time and it should sync your contacts.
One other problem I had in the past was that for some reason I had a couple hundred duplicates of one contact (not sure how this happened) and it broke the syncing and the phone just refused to sync contacts giving me a fail message. I went into my gmail contacts and deleted all duplicates. Problem solved.
Also could be a bad contact with a unique field or bad code or just weird symbols. Try making a new gmail account. Add a couple contacts and add that gmail account to your phone. Does it sync fine with the new gmail account?
Sent from my SD4930UR using XDA Free mobile app
The built in contacts app is seriously stupid and its driving me crazy.
it shows several contacts sources and I can't disable the sync of any of them rather than changing the view to Gmail only or so...therefore I ended up with many repeated contacts on my phone from 4 sources (Gmail Contacts , Whatsapp Contacts?!?, Facebook and Linkedin)
I stopped the sync with Linkedin , but every single number that was synced previously is saved in my Whatsapp contacts and everytime I try to delete it says that I can't delete and it will be hidden...I openend a case with Whatsapp and I am pending them to get back to me.
When I use the (join) option to merge the contacts I end up with a very long repeated list of numbers or old numbers that I can't delete....very frustrating.
I tried using third party contacts apps and ended up with too many duplications.
I did send a feedback to amazon about this, advised them to take a look at the HTC contacts app for inspiration as it really outstanding...if by the end of this year they dont fix this phone I am ditching it and getting either iPhone 6s, Samsung S6 Edge or HTC
Hey guys,
For the last month, since I changed sim cards with a different network, every time I add a new contact to my phone it saves it in and then 15 minutes later it is deleted.
Contacts are being saved to my Google account (not to my sim card or to the phone) and contacts are being displayed from my google account as well.
If I lookup the contacts on gmail they also don't appear.
I used to be able to view the contacts on my google contacts list and edit and delete contacts over there which would sync directly to my phone.
In short - no settings have been changed on my phone at all and it appears that there is a sync issue.
I also tried deleting the system cache and nothing has changed.
I have deleted my google account on my phone more than once and tried it again but it STILL doesn't work...
What the hell is going on and how do I fix this?? I cannot continue like this anymore as I am losing contacts when I think they are being saved
I just added a girls number to my phone. It was on for like 5 minutes. Showed up with her name on whatsapp etc. and then it just erased itself and the contact dissapeared and the name on whatsapp.
I might also like to add that I have the same issue with Gmail - e-mails are not pushing on my phone anymore and only manual checking works... it's terrible I am just so angry at the moment with anything google and this stupid G4 !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!
Hello, I'm really sad.
Have S20+ with the latest official Android 12. 2 SIM cards (private, work)
All contacts are stored in google contacts only (not in SIM, not in samsung account)
I found I have a lot of duplicates in mobile.
Google Contacts - 480 contacts
Samsung device - 500 contacts. After some minutes have 560 contacts. After 2-3 hours had more than 1600 contacts.
Did wipe cache, delete data of Contacts app, restart device, factory reset. Nothing helped. So I remove all contacts from Google Contacts and add one by one again.
After some minutes I have duplicates in mobile again. Mobile shows me some duplicates again.
If I do some change in some contact via Google Contacts in PC, after some seconds I have duplicate of that in samsung mobile with the same informations (name, surname, mobile number)
Any help please? I already wrote to samsung support but their answer was "great". They replied to me all things I already did.
Thank you.
I changed one contact in Google Contacts because I made a mistake in surname. Now I have the same contact twice in mobile. One contact with wrong surname, one contact with fixed name..
Really starrting to hate Android
My aliexpress motorola x30 keeps deleating my contacts on the phone "contacts" app. Keep changing the order in the names. Also keeps deleating the "+" in the whats app saved contacts.
Keeps "forgeting" the contacts (in the app) i imported through .csv file to google contacts or the phone's memory. (I did it both ways many times)
please help.
I'm facing this same issue. I already tried these things:
- Deleated all contacts and imported again;
- Downloaded google contacts apps and imported them to a google account;
- Tried others google account;
Maybe it's a rom problem... I can't figure it out! =/

Hi.
My contacts were a mess, so in the .csv format i edit them in microsoft excel, fist. ( the mess was that i export them from many phones so the +52 1 were add and the phone/whatsapp couldnt read them in that format).
So after i edit them, i save them in .csv format from excel and import then in google account linked with the phone... Same tragedy ... (I use google contacts app). So i try to import them to the google contacts app but i couldnt from the phone (google contact app), you only have the option in the gmail app, account manager - people & sharing, contacts - import).
So i open the phone's original contacts app, and then try to import the .csv contacts but it only could read .vcf files. so i imported the contacts to gmail again and exported them in "vcards (ios only)" format which is a .vcf file.
Then i downloaded the new .vcf file and imported them in the phone's original contacts app. Since 8am and until now. No contact have been erease or "forgoten" from the phone. (I imported this file to the "phones" memory and turn off the auto sync with the gmail account).
Hope it works for you too!
I'm experiencing the same issues and I didn't find solution ,
also there is anther problem that some of my contacts their name not show when they call , some of them not all.
Hope some one find how to fix this annoying issues.
