VPN (IPSec Xauth PSK) connection issue - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I am having issues using VPN between OnePlus 7T (OxygenOS 11.0.6.1) and AVM FRITZ!Box 7490 (FRITZ!OS 7.29). No error regarding incorrect credentials - simply not connecting and resulting in failed connection after about one minute. FRITZ!OS is until now (except latest beta versions) only able to use IPSec Xauth PSK. This has been also an issue for connections from Android "long time ago" (last on Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (SM-T710) running LineageOS 16.0) but not anymore since a few Android versions on multiple devices. Anyone an idea?
Almost forgot: No issue at all from the same device using VpnCilla - same as in the past but not the smoothest solution.

Addition: Same issue with AVM FRITZ!Box 7560 (also FRITZ!OS 7.29).

did you solve the problem?

I'm having the exact same problem on Oneplus 9 Pro, the latest Android 12 and my Fritzbox 6660. Any ideas?

[Q] Will WPA2 AES ever work on galaxy S4 ?

Hi,
Since my S3 I have been having issues with AES encryption. I know an easy fix is to use TKIP only, but that solution is fine when I am at home, but what about all the other places that have wifi and use AES? This phone can do pretty much everything, except have a stable connection using AES encryption.
Is there a known fix?
Big thanks in advance
Works fine on mine. I run WPA2-Personal with only AES and it works fine for both the 2.4 and 5Ghz spectrums.
Really? On every AES network? Seems android is plagued with many devices not operating properly using AES. I know some routers need firmware updates (especially d-link) to support android AES better. Your wifi is never non responsive? Here at work I use connectify, and my phone stays connected, but with no network. I have seen many posts here on XDA , but most of them are for other devices, not the S4 .. A simple google search or XDA search always yields the same results.. they say to change to TKIP only and true enough, problem is solved. Its only that a lot of public networks seem to operate on AES, which just doesn't work properly.
FYI my router is a trendnet tew-633gr with latest firmware (1.0.6) and connectify is using a Linksys WMP600N as the device to create the hotspot. Since using TKIP on my trendnet router, I never have connection problems. Unfortunately connectify cannot be set to TKIP only, and its creating a hotspot with WPA2 instead.
Thanks for your input though.
never had any problems with WPA2 AES. Wouldn't use anything different....
Well when I first connect and get authenticated I do have to restart my phone if it's the first time
Same here. Note 1, S3, Note 2 and S4 all working on an AES only network. Both 2.4 and 5GHz. Only issue I have is 5GHz on the other side of the house, but that is an inherent issue with the frequency, not the phones or AES.
All right , thank you all. I guess the problem lies within my router with its 2009 firmware... Although I have seen many reports of this problem, they might all just be related to the hotspots/routers rather than the phone..
I have the same problem with the same Trendnet AP, on my Verizon S4. I've read thread after thread about this after most everyone seems to solve it on different routers with a firmware update or by disabling features that the Trendnet doesn't have to being with. I don't think Trendnet is going to update the firmware on such an old device any time soon so shy of buying a new router the only hope is a fix from Samsung.

VPN Connection

Hi folks,
I have problems getting a VPN connection connected to a Fritzbox 7390.
Before I switched to the Galaxy S4 Mini I had a Galaxy S2 running being able to connect to my home router via VPN.
Now it is not possible to connect wit the S4 Mini?
Due to the fact that the S2 is running I think the S4 Mini has a problem here.
My S4 Mini Details:
- Rooted with RootKit V2.0
- Android 4.2.2
- Build: XXUAMG8
I also do not get any feedback from the device why the VPN connection is not getting established.
Does anybody has the VPN connection up and running?
Or does anybody experience the problem? Any solutions?
Thanks in advance,
NoFear
Did you try it on your S2 recently?
My telco here in Singapore denies all VPN connections when connected via the default 3G APN. But when you change the APN to the one used by 3G dongles for PCs, VPN connections magically work.
Not sure if its the case for your telco (could be a recent implementation) - you could try calling up your telco to confirm!

I used the Fritzbox VPN on my old phones, just remember that it needed a patch for the vpn to work, since the fritzbox has it's on special connections. Maybe that is not within your S4 version?
Sorry to just have a hint, but now using OpenVPN.

Yes i have a VPN connection from the s4 mini DUOS to fritzbox 7390 no problem.
No patch or something needed (android 4.0 or higher) - just select "IPSec Xauth PSK" and it will work.
Search at google and you will find instructions directly from AVM for VPN connection from fritzbox to an android device.

Connecting a Firestick v3 to Fritz!Box VPN - Possible?

I just got myself a Fritz!Box 5970 and am now setting it all up, including its VPN server.
It uses IPSec Xauth, and so far I've successfully managed to connect both my iPhone and Android (7) tablet to it. However I'm now facing trying to link my Firestick (version 3, the current retail one) to it and am having issues as of course there's no VPN functionality included by default in FireOS.
I've looked through the various apps available and all I can see are proprietary ones linked to providers servers only (IPVanish, PureVPN and suppliers like that), or an OpenVPN one which doesn't seem to support IPSec Xauth (or at least i can't get it to work).
Does anyone know a method of making such a connection, using either a sideloaded app or something directly available?

No internet on tethering only since LOS16 (WiFi, Bluetooth and USB)

I normally avoid creating threads because the answer is usually out there, but I've been beating my head against a wall for weeks now and I'm at my wits end.
I have a HTC 10 on Unofficial LineageOS 16 which I upgraded from 14.1. Also running Magisk.
On 14.1, my tethering worked great. Same exact hardware, carrier, plan, SIM and everything only the upgrade to LOS 16, and now my tethering doesn't work.
I thought it was unique to my phone, but I realized my wife's Pixel on Official LineageOS 16 is doing the exact same thing.
The Wi-Fi Hotspot enables, and other devices can connect, but the connection shows no internet.
I've tried with other Android phones, tablets, windows and Ubuntu laptops... All with the same issue...
If I ping any website by domain name (eg google.com) the IP will resolve (so DNS seems to be OK) but there's never any response.
I can successfully ping the gateway (phone's) IP address though.
So far I've tried all the following (also several in combination) with no success:
- setting manual IP, gateway, mask and DNS from the client device (DNS of 8.8.8.8)
- Different bands (2.4 vs 5)
- WPA or unsecured
- Tethering via USB or Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi
- changing the APN to include DUN in all caps
- toggling tethering hardware acceleration in developer tools
- settings put global tether_dun_required 0
- set TTL to 64
- editing build.prop with net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
- messing around with route tables some
- resetting all network settings (lost my saved wifi networks for no reason)
- tethering_enabler Magisk package
- probably more stuff I'm forgetting right now...
So far nothing has worked.
It's very frustrating to lose all ability to tether, it was something I used quite often and sometimes need for work.
Does anyone have any ideas at all?
Same problem

Hi!
I have exactly the same problem with LineageOS 17.1 on Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus! I had MIUI 10 installed before and everything worked fine, but with LineageOS my thetering doesn't work. Not over Wifi nor USB...
As you described I can connect other devices with the wifi from my phone, but they don't have internet access then. I can ping to external sites successfully but I'm not able to connect to any webside or any other internet service... Have you found any solution for this problem or does anyone know something about? I'm searching also now for a very long time but with no success...
Thanks in advance,
Drotak
I think straight talk was blocking it. I'm not sure if their way of blocking only worked for newer versions of Android or what.
Since this post, I've changed phones to a Google edition Pixel 2, which I unlocked but continued to run stock ROM with Magisk. I never could get tethering working on it, tried all the same things. The only thing that worked (kinda) was setting up VPN tethering, but it was very difficult and unreliable.
Finally I just gave in and bought the plan that includes tethering. Nothing I like more than buying data and then being told how to use it unless I pay more (sic)

Samsung A50, no WiFi via EAP-TLS

Hi,
I recently bought a Samsung A50, which I tried to connect to my companies WiFi.
WiFi-Auth uses EAP-TLS, so it's basically WPA2 Enterprise.
I imported the companies CA- and my User-Certificate (both appear in "User-Certificates").
But when I try to connect to the SSID I can only choose the CA-Certificate (BOTH certificates appear in the dialoguebox!).
But the usercertificate-field remains empty, I got no choices to make there...
It works just fine using my Samsung A5 or an iPhone 8 by using the exact same certificates and importing them the same way...
I already installed the newest firmware.
What can I do to solve the problem?
Seems strange to me, this usually works even with very old WiFi-equipment.
No ideas?
Nobody having the same issue?
*push*
I already posted on first section regarding Wi Fi signal. Its weak and also didnt recognize many of wifi networks. I commpared with the other models
and the results are that Samsung A50 showed same wifi networks as Nokia with Symbian OS from 2010....disapointed....very...
