What's up guys? It's been quite a while since I've been on here. I've switched back to Android from iOS. Picked up a Oneplus 9 Pro today. Trying to figure out what in the **** is going on in Android now. Seems things have changed drastically since I was last here (Oneplus One)! I feel like I'm in /r/jailbreak! I have a T-Mobile Oneplus 9, so I guess I have to submit to Oneplus to be able to unlock the bootloader??? I've done it, but do I really have to wait one to 2 weeks for them to reply before I can root!? Is this how Android has become now?

Welcome back.
I'll just address the bootloader thing.
Normally, you can unlock instantly the bootloader, no need to wait for anything or request for anything. But in your case, T-Mobile, well, provider locked, so you need to request an unlock from them AFAIK.

I haven't heard of any way around the wait time. This whole mess is the reason I bought this phone from OnePlus even though I have T-Mobile. Last phone I bought from T-Mobile and I had the same frustrated reaction you're having now. Hopefully they get back to you faster than expected.

Anyone here have NoDo on their phone and able to device unlock it? My brother picked up a Sprint/HTC Arrive today and it won't let me connect to his phone to unlock it. When I open the registration tool it just says "Unable to connect to phone. Please check that the Zune software is running and that Zune's sync partnership with your phone has been established." The phone is synced and everything. The WPConnect tool is also able to connect just fine. I have a Samsung Focus and was able to re-lock and unlock that device with this same computer. Did NoDo break the unlock tool? I know they changed some stuff to prevent the Chevron unlocking tool but did it also break the official unlock tool? Is anyone else seeing this?
I think we will have to wait until we actually get the update since a very large portion of us hasn't seen it yet.

Yea, I know. Was just wondering if people with the leaked roms were seeing this. As of now the Sprint 7 Pro (Arrive) is the only device to officially have NoDo.
From what I have gathered from various sources, NoDo has indeed broken the ChevronWP7 Developer Unlock Tool.
If your device is unlocked right now, it would be wise to hold off on updating your phone until a new method of unlocking the device is found.
well this is about the official dev unlock
my guess is that it will need a newer version which is not public yet
so none of those guys who have lately buied a wp7 with latest software onboard cant start developing for that phone... bummer..
I'm running the leaked Orange UK NoDo Mozart ROM and was just able to use the official dev unlock tool on my phone. Are you running the latest Dev tools?

Yeah, do you have the January Update and the fixes?
I have an HTC Arrive with NoDo (duh) and it is developer unlocked.
Since I've had the phone for about a week now, I think I can explain:
MS's servers either did not recognize or rejected the Arrive for unlocking till Monday morning because I tried for days and it did not work.
Yesterday, I tried in the afternoon and boom...unlocked, no problem.
and did you use the same Chevron unlock method to unlock it on the htc arrive?

I have the Arrive and was able to successfully register it with Microsoft. I didn't have to do anything particularly strange. Just followed the normal procedure.
Arrive
I left my tp1 with at&t and picked up the sprint arrive this week. Much cheaper bill and at&t is horrible in their speeds and seem to be getting slower in metro detroit. So before I bought the arrive I read that tethering is possible with some work so I figured I was set. Very sad by the news that I can't tether without spending more money. Bad enough Sprint now charges everyone with a "smartphone" $10 a month (isn't that 60% of the market???) supposedly to keep most peoples plan the same price. Hopefully a dev here will come to save the day
Disappointments
-no sd card slot
-no front camera
-8mp cameras are in some phones and we're stuck with 5
-no file explorer and tethering
1. Smartphones are ~30-35% of the global cell phone market.
2. Those are hardware features that you knew before purchasing the phone, unless you are illiterate.
3. Yes, tethering is needed. File explorer, not so much.
4. If you want Android with a different skin (or Windows Mobile with a different skin, and I don't mean LITERALLY), you should have gone with a device with those features where you can just a different skin on it.
Sprint has two such devices: Evo 4G (even includes that 8MP camera that you think you need, but don't, on it), and Epic 4G (which basically has all the features of People Hub, etc. in TouchWiz, etc.).
But to come here and hijack a thread to complain about Sprint's service costs and missing hardware features on a phone you bought knowing it... Way to be disingenuous...

Bootloader unlock only just came out less than a week ago. Root has been available for a few days. There should eventually be ROMs but there is basically nothing for the time being. If you are willing to wait a month or two or three for a good ROM, consider this phone.
I'd honestly recommend the 1+3T though. The dev community is much more existent.

This was a colossal failure on Asus' end, in my opinion. I'm glad those who have the ZF3 5.7" finally got their unlocker. I really had high hopes for this phone. After holding onto it as long as I could (in the box it shipped in) with Amazon's extended holiday return period & crossing my fingers for unlocking...I had to go with the 3T. I really wanted to go with the Zenfone 3 but Asus didn't even suggest an unlocked bootloader was coming, as far as I am aware, until very recently. That was after missing out on 2 rounds of in-stock 3T's due to overly sensitive fraud detection on both OnePlus and my bank's end. Finally ended up getting a 3T 128GB model, even though I bought a 128GB microSD card and nice USB-C cable for the Zenfone 3.
Asus really said something about their support/concern in regards to their mobile phone product line(s) with this - OnePlus Support has already given me trouble, no less. I kinda like Asus, too.
I finally have a phone after nearly 6 months of borrowing -- hijacking my mom's OP 2.
Hello all, I'm interested in purchasing the RN5 Pro, and I've seen a lot of bootloader unlocking related problems. I would like to flash Lineage OS on it. But, how long could this unlock process take? Could they deny me unlocking forever? I apologise for the ad nauseum, because I know that this question has been circling around quite a bit.
Thanks!
as i know, it takes 15 day to grant permission to unlock bootloader (now it's 2months, im not sure)
Then the unlock process just takes about under 15 mins
dont be worry too much about it, it's really simple and ez
I tried to unlock the phone yesterday and the unlock tool showed 720 hours waiting period, which is 30 days, and I retried today and it was still counting (708 hours or so)
I heard some people getting 1440 hours, but don't worry, once you unlock the bootloader everything becomes available, and by the way, you could like MIUI, it has most of the root functions without rooting (Restricting wifi/data from specific apps for example and many many customizations).
I would say get the phone, as soon as you get it apply for the unlock, and try MIUI until you can get to unlock the device.

Thanks for the info! Appreciated. As far as MiUI goes, I don't dislike the look and feel much, but there are advertisements and spammy notifications everywhere, and that to me is unacceptable. On top of that, I'm a privacy conscious guy, so I don't know the kind of background tracking. So I'll most likely switch to Lineage if I get the chance to.
That really depends if your account has authorizations previously. if you have got authorizations previously for any of device. you can unlock any device without any wait. some times device association can take a little time. only if said device was associated with any other account previously

Hey there! The general bootloader unlocking wait time is 30 or even 60 days since the 1. September. It can be shorter, or there is no wait time at all if you have used a Mi account to unlock other devices before. But it depends on their mysteriously mysterious system. From what I read, it can make a difference if a phone number is associated with the account. But I wouldn't count on it for new accounts. Better expect the full and brutal 30 days unlock period.
As you mentioned privacy, it needs to be said that MIUI - the stock ROM of nearly all Xiaomi devices - is quite talkative and sends back data to their servers. They hide it in their terms of services, except that you are prompted to accept these terms of services once you set up your device. If you don't mind it, it should be okay and you can use your device normally until you can unlock the bootloader. After all, Google is also there in form of their Play Services and watch your activity as well. Buuuut, if you truly want to preserve your privacy, it's best not to use the device normally until you get to unlock your bootloader. Personally that is what I did, but rather because I really need and like to have root access on phones I own. In my humble opinion, the increased bootloader unlock time is there to force users to use MIUI. Previously normal times were 3, 7 and 14 days. In conjunction with the ads they want to force onto their users, and the data they collect, this just makes sense if you ask me. Despite this, and to mention positive points again, their phones are still really great value for the money. The Redmi Note 5 has excellent battery life, good mid-range phone performance, takes nice pictures as well and is basically just a pleasant device. Though, if you plan to use LineageOS, you will need to install one of the Mi A2 camera or Google Camera ports if you want to use LineageOS without having to sacrifice camera quality. Actually, with the Google Camera port the pictures of this device get even prettier than they normally look like with the MIUI camera! Might be a matter of taste after all, but I tested it myself and can just confirm what others said about the awesome picture quality.

They refused mine. New phone, IMEI never even been activated, but they said they "couldn't" unlock it because Motorola "no longer supports it". Which came as a surprise to Motorola, who told me 1) They do still support it, as they're still selling it, and 2) Motorola has nothing to do with the carrier unlock process.
So a week later and a dozen or more calls to AT&T in, I get told that no, I can't even talk to a supervisor, because I'm not a current customer. So it's not the case that they "can't" do it. They just won't.

I had an issue with an iPhone once with that. You should keep pushing to speak with an unlock support person. They are a specific department that deals with unlock request issues. They had to text me a code to verify something. And then they unlocked it. And this was a 5s. Not even sold anymore when this happened. But it was a phone I got used from someone.
tl;dr. Try the request on the website again. If it fails, then contact support through the link on the page showing the denial. And if the first person won't help then ask to speak to an unlock support specialist.

AT&T phones cannot be bootloader unlocked. Same with Verizon. You'd need an unlock exploit, which there isn't one for this model phone.
It's not that it's not simple to do--I've been fiddling with a few phones and custom ROMs. Issue is, there's a non-zero chance of bricking it, and I might need to return it--I've not seen much about whether it's possible to return everything to stock if I need to do so.
Can this device be returned to "factory" in every way if it doesn't work? Also, are there any IRC channels that deal with rooting/customizing Motorola phones?

I was under the impression that even unlocking bootloader and installing a custom ROM wouldn't do anything about the modem software where the carrier lock is located.

Hi.
Just had high level verizon tech fix my cdma-less on my account and I have this great working phone that says T-Mobile on the init boot screen but is actually running Verizon.
Regarding unlocking the bootloader, (why do I always have to do this? I think I have a sickness... I just... cant... help it....) why would the standard fastboot unlock not work? I was thinking of trying it when I get home just to see what happens. I already have the dev/OEM unlock selected. Plus the phone says it is already unlocked for any service. Most posts are tmobile posts relying on a 7 day wait from tmobile to get a code/something... I am thinking that would not apply to me for better or worse.
I really just need root for a complete blackout theme and pull off a few bloatware tmobile apps. But it runs so good now, as is, that it really isnt imperative.
Oh, I see. I need an unlock token. bummer
Well yes and no about the token. I have a HD1907 working very nicely on verizon, but I'm on the global firmware and did not have to wait a week for the token.
Edit: My first oneplus phone and I'm not sure I get exactly why a lot do not like 7t but I'm really digging and loving the phone.

I put in a request for the token and will wait a week. I see how it can be done as you mentioned. I am thinking I will be cool with just magisk modding the boot img and getting root that way. Keeping everything else as is. I really dig the oneplus ui.
After having a bunch of other phones throughout the years, I can say that this oneplus is just very nice. I have no complaints, just compliments. If this is how oneplus devices are then I was missing out before! *except the strange wait time for unlocking the bootloader via-oneplus*

Hello, I just purchased a 7T that I am planning to use on Visible (Verizon network) I was looking through the forum and saw your post. Did you initially have a problem running the 7T on the Verizon network? I s that the reason you had the tech working to fix your CDMA account? I'm trying to decide if I want to go through the hastle or just switch to another provider where I can just use the phone.
