At first I thought it was either a fluke, or just not happening, but now I know it definitely is. I can press onscreen keys and buttons without actually touching the screen.
I've seen recently that there is a screen tech that registers hovering fingers but I'm not sure if the ClearPad 2000 hardware can do this. "I'm not sure" meaning "I have no idea."
Interestingly it is affecting the way I type as as I type and skim over onscreen keys, I will sometimes get that "run you finger across a piano" effect. If that's makes sense to people.
I do know that I have a habbit of giving an electric shock to many things and people. Maybe I'm just highly charged and it's affecting the screen???
Is it just me that gets this?
i just had a few try's and i couldn't do it, i had to actually make contact for anything to happen
AFAIK, capacitive touchscreens work by reacting to the natural hand capacitance (i.e. the tiny amounts of electricity stored in your body). Therefore, I suppose it makes sense that different people can have different levels of capacitance.
No doubt someone who knows will be along soon!
Sometimes, the screen can be very sensitive ... and sometimes, you can accidently touch the trackpad.

As already mentioned, capacitive screens do not actually register your finger touching the screen, but just the electric field your fingers produce when near to the sensor. The sensor in this case is actually a grid of thin wires spanned across the screen, you can see them when the screen is off and hold the phone at a certain angle to a lightsource.
So, depending on the calibration of the sensor, a finger will get registered even if you just hover over the glass.
No chance to hover and register a touch on mine, albeit when I hold the phone with my normal left-hand grip - my thumb being just above the volume key - it registers as a touch on the screen so a single finger slide doesn't result in a scroll but a zoom in/out. I really can't stand the length of the volume key.

perhaps its the optical track ball ???? That will do it ... 1cm away from the track area the screen moves. as it should
Nah, for me it's not an issue with accidentally rubbing the optical trackball. Plus I've tested this a number of times. I can hover a finger over the screen and get the screen to respond. So when the keyboard is up, I can type without touching the screen. Seems to work best with my thumbs. And interestingly, my right thumb works "better" (if I can call it that) than my left.
Maybe I am just highly charged. Especially when the weather gets hotter I give a lot more things electrical shocks. I'd better hurry up and get a protective case!
This has happened to me quite a lot. I wasn't entirely sure if just psychic? Hahaha!

Does it for me all the time, I can hover at a maximum of about 2mm above the screen and it still reacts!!

Conversely I can touch my screen really gently and nothing happens.

Yes this how my Desire reacts also, I can very very gently touch the screen without it being registered.

I know that most of the questions I read were about the S Pen being too sensitive. But in my case, I feel the S Pen is not as sensitive as it should be!
When I put the pen in the slightest contact with the screen and try to scribble, nothing comes up. I feel I have to push the pen a bit more strongly to get some writing on the screen - and that takes away from the sensitivity of the S pen which Samsung brags about.
Is anybody else facing this problem, where you feel the S pen has to be pushed too hard for it to start writing on the screen? In my opinion, as soon as the pen comes in contact with the screen (even the slightest contact), it should start writing.

I am having this issue a little now. At first the s-pen was fine and performed as expected but now it seems like it needs more pressure to register scren taps etc although the pointer shows as normal whent he pen is close to the screen
This is normal in S note and some other apps where pressure sensitivity is needed. Samsung has designed it in that way.
Same here, first day the pressure needed was very low, now I need a lot of more and the traces of the pen have like 2 options, little press (more than before) and a lot of pressure for thick lines, nothing in the middle.
And I can corroborate this because with my other wacom pens of tablet pcs doesn't have the problem of the samsung now.

I adjusted the potentiometer to get rid of this problem.

The thing is that my pen can write with slight pressure but a little more than before, but the real problem seems that the middle one levels are lost and were working the first day.

Does anyone else notice that when pressing buttons on the screen to open apps or things in apps etc that it is not always responsive unless you hit it at the perfect angle? Also when I write normally i kind of write more at a sideways angle towards the screen but it seems to not register very well like this so I have to write more vertical towards the screen. Is there any way to fix these issues or is that just how it is at this time? Also i feel like if I write too lightly it doesn't register very well when writing. Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity or am I the only one who thinks this? I have a similar issue where i seem to have to press hard to get a reaction, especially the app drawer icon.
I notice you have to hit dead on which makes sense. This isn't a pencil or pen where you can write slanted and the ink still touch the paper or what not. But rather the "ball" of the s pen is where your main contact should be. Takes getting used to but what doesn't? Pen works great once you learn how it works

I had to exchange my S-pen 3 times due to sensitivity issue! One of them was way too sensitivity, I wasn't even touching the screen and I could write on S-note... Store manager thought that was part of the Note 2's new feature... lol
Even after the exchange of S-pen I was still having little issues with it, and I ran across a thread about slamming the S-pen on the ground. I know it sounds bizarre but it actually worked! I didn't believe it at first but now my s-pen works flawless... so weird. :silly:

lol like throwing it or just slamming it? and yeah i figured it would just take getting used to I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just my pen. So is there really no settings to change for it though??
Also funny question... does it matter which way it is held? Like when I was first holding it you would press the button with your thumb however you could also hold it so you would press it with your index finger. Does it matter? Is it made to work better one way?

Take a closer look at the tip of the S-pen. It's actually slightly spring loaded! I discovered this from an early review video I watched before I purchased mine. I believe that the tip has to be pressed hard enough to slightly retract in order to produce a mark. Writing with the pen at an angle may not be doing that.

But I just tried it and the pen is working 95% better. I don't know if it will stay this way but it's working pretty well (for now at least).

Hey I have the same problem with you but I have solved it in a stupid but effective way. I open the back case and press it, that's it the pen sensitivity back to normal.... lol try it easy and effective....
The S pen can be too sensitive, so you have to adjust its potentiometer. Yes, you heard that right.Just pop the button cover off by simply using a razor blade or something really thin, the cover should pop immediately. Then, you have to use a small flat head screwdriver and turn the screw clockwise. This will adjust the S Pen sensitivity. If you want to make it more sensible, then you have to screw counterclockwise. You should adjust it until it no longer has a problem. This fix has worked for a lot of people, so it should work as a general fix. If you still have problems with the S pen, then you should get in touch with the dealer that gave the phone to you and get the S pen switched because it is faulty.

Wish I had known this a last week before I broke my last S Pen. lol Worked great and I even adjusted my full size S Pen as well! Kudos!
Okay so i recently got a galaxy note 10.1 2014 ed. and i bought this ivso case for it: ww.amazon.com/Samsung-Edition-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Portfolio/dp/B00FJTV0PG
I like the case and the detachable keyboard but what i cannot stand is the effects the magnets have on the tablet. It makes it auto wake, which i guess is kind of nice, but when i fold it back around behind the tablet, it always auto locks my tablet. It also will not let me drag the drop down notification bar from the top when it is folded around the back.
Anyways, i was wondering if anyone knew of any apps or settings to disable the effects of the magnets on the tablet? I've spent hours googling and trying out different apps and whatnot but nothing helps.

What I did was get a sharp knife and take the magnet out. Stick a velcro instead.

I folded some papers and slip it underneath the tablet in the case. It block the magnet so it won't off the screen when u flip the cover to the back.
The pen holder strap that comes with the cover is too small to hold my Wacom stylus feel. So, I got some stretchable strap, loop it and staple it to the paper. Now I can slip my stylus comfortably attachedge to the cover.

Off topic, but how do you like the Wacom feel?
I'm thinking of getting one but I read that it is not as accurate as the default stylus, unless held at a 90 degree angle (!). Is that the case?

There is a bit of offset. But it doesn't affect me much. Just write or draw like normal.
In apps like lecture notes, tgere is a setting where u can adjust the offset to make it accurate.

No. I ended up just getting a different case that doesn't have a keyboard. Since there's no magnetic keyboard, the magnets aren't nearly as strong and only affects the tablet when I open it, not when I fold it around the back.
Thanks for the speedy response. On close inspection I noticed that there is a small magnet on the front cover top left corner about 1 inch from the top. almost invisible but can find it when we run a coin over the surface of the front cover. When the back side of the note 10.1 meets this magnet, screen switches off. I noted that by placing a magazine/ booklet between the front cover and the back when using in flipped over mode: the screen does not switch off. A small victory. But wish that samsung provides a solution 2 disable this magnetic screen off feature through a menu option.
i have same problem and i fix it by take out magnate from cover. i hope found a better way for this problem
Did anyone find any way to turn off the magnetic lock and unlock function? When I backfold my cover (aftermarket), it automatically locks my tab. Which is very irritating. I have Samsung galaxy tab S5e
You'd think that the guys who make these cases would just add a small amount of padding over the magnet so it only activates the sensor on the one side... To simple an idea I guess...

I am looking for a pen to my Nexus 7. Planning to make some drawings, some precise pen moves I need. I know there is no way to have 1024 different pressure identifiers as in Note series but what I actually need is only a pen to see where I am drawing that line (most of them have a big surface to imitate a finger which I dont want). So I need a "thin" touch pen.
Is there such thing?

I don't think that there are any pens like this. SG Note's screen technology is different from Flo's screen.

You need a tablet with a digitizer such as the Note series, or the Nvidia Shield Tablet. The screens have an extra layer and their pens are smart pens with buttons.
You aren't going to get very precise with anything else. Capacitive touchscreens that we use today sense the electricity from our bodies and produce a pretty large area of touch.
I mean you can draw some pretty awesome things with touchscreens but nothing precise. The tablets with actual pens, again, have buttons so you can place the point on the screen, but only actually draw when the button is placed. This gives you a very accurate starting point that you won't get with an iPad or normal Android device.
Anyway... the best is still probably the Jot Pro...
