I'm not sure when this started happening, but all of the sudden my RCS is no longer showing as an option, meaning when I go to settings, there is no "Chat features" If I update the messages app, and carrier services, the "Chat features" is there, but states that "your carrier does not support this" (was working for months) and messages for web no longer works, the web page states, "Update your messaging app on your phone"
Has anyone had this, or have any ideas? I have contacted my carrier and had them re-provision my SIM as well.
Mine's still working on AT&T. I never had to contact them about it.
This is a great way to share all of your conversations with gooble. Don't they already have enough of your data?

On my unlocked Dash I get a text message everytime I get a voice mail, does anyone know how to turn this off? I get about 20 VM's per day so you can see how this would bother me.. I hate getting a Text Message for every Voice Mail.
Please Help or I may end up switching back to my Blackberry which I don't want to do..
Thanks
G
Thats more of the telco problem, not the phones.
I never had this problem before when I was using my blackberry? Only since I switched phones to my unlocked Dash do I get the text message for voice mail.

It's something related to your carrier, not the phone. The phone isn't sending itself a text message. Maybe the Blackberry receives a SMS notification of voicemail that is handled differently, and your Dash is receiving it as a text message... Have you signed up for Blackberry service with your carrier? Have you updated your account to non-Blackberry service? Who's your carrier? Have you contacted them at all about this?
I am using Rogers in Canada. I have a blackberry account as I am using BB Connect since my company won't allow us to connect to the exchange server directly.
I have talked to Rogers and they said it have to be the phone. We I get a VM, i get the little VM message at the top of my home screen so that is working it is just the darn text message that bothers me..
just double check.. is it a text mesage that goes into your Inbox, or just a notification bubble?
Anyway, if it is a text, a quick and dirty way to solve is temp is to have a SMS blocker in place, to filter out these messages.
Hey cool so is that is piece of software SMS Blocker? if it works like email filtering that would work.. Where can I find a SMS Blocker or is a function of the phone?
Thanks great idea!!
The reason you get a text everytime you get a new voicemail is because your "unlocked" phone does not support the the MWI ( message waiting indicator) that your mobile provider uses. I have T-mobile and they use the reel to reel icon that pops up on the top of the screen when you get a new voicemail. If you have an unlocked phone it may not support the icon your providers phones use.
I've had numerous phones with this company(by choice). I am currently using an unlocked phone that was configured for another carrier's network, some of the features do not work the same, including the Message Waiting Indicator. The goods new is you can probably stop this by having your mobile company take the Message Waiting Indicator off all together. But the Bad news is, then of course you will not be notified when you get a new voicemail.
It's a feature of the Rogers network. I have it on my account too. Still debating whether I like it or not though. I think it's part of the "WhoCalled" feature they have, but I'm not sure. It's definitely part of your Rogers service plan though.
Temp Fix for Rogers network SMS after VM
Hi, I had the same problem. It was really getting to me. Now using phone guard 1.09
Works well.
After download, DONT fill in the country code, or area code screen, just leave blank.(or you will not recieve calls, they will be send to vm, ????not sure why)
On the block screen, fill in ( [email protected] ) {for rogers} in the tel sms #, Name it what ever you want.
No more text after vm.
Later
p.s. the program runs in the back ground. Uses the least mem though.
Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me as I am completely stumped.
Three days ago I flashed an sense ROM and all was well until I noticed people saying you didn't get my voicemail? So pressed 1 and called my VM only to find I had 7 voicemail that I was never notified about. I didn't get a task bar notification, app notification and they didn't show in the VVM app.
I have done the following, battery pull, update prl, update profile, sent activation message to [email protected], says it there is a delay in setting up your voicemail and you message will be sent as soon as this step is complete. I have also tried restoring a nandroid when VVM was working and nothing works.
Im lost and it sux not knowing if I have a VM, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JP
identical situation here, did you ever find a solution? anyone else have this experience? if so, howdya fix it?
bump this...having the same issue.
uninstalled vvm and re-installed latest apk, app generated it's own activation message, but send failed, still no notifications, this sucks...
This was happening to me as well, until I remembered that I had set up a block with Sprint to block 9016 txt msgs from coming through. Check with Sprint customer service or logon to Sprint's site and check the My Devices & Media tab and see if you have any restrictions on the line.
Apparently, Sprint's VVM program needs those text messages to tell it when it's provisioned, when it has messages to download, and when to get rid of the icon at the top.
Nah, this isn't the aosp text issue, it's different, but thanks for the input.
So I took my phone to sprint today, and after an hour and a half working w/ 3 different tech depts, a couple supposed vvm resets (or refreshes), and a full reset of the phone and still no fix, they decide to give me a new phone. Set up the new one (003 w/ 3.29 otb) and no dice, 3 hours, a new phone, and still have the same problem I walked in with. I've uninstalled and re-installed latest apk as well as an older one. What seems to be the problem is the "activation message" is not sending. Sprint says it's a known issue and there will be a software fix soon - my experience w/ Sprint is 6 mo. is "soon" for an update or fix. Anybody know a fix for this?

holyrolla's right check to make sure you don't have it blocked. if you added it before it wouldn't block it. but now for some reason it blocks it. I had the same problem as the op took me a week trying to figure it out. then I remembered I blocked 9016 when I had cm6. unblocked it and within a few hours my voicemail activation was able to be sent.
also compose a message in the vvm app and send it to someone in your contacts, this should get the server talking with your phone if your activation message still won't send

This worked! I blocked and unblocked 9016 text in August on Heroc. Four days before Thanksgiving on Evo for 2.5 weeks w/ vvm working fine...and all of a sudden no vvm. After I replied to this post earlier, I decided to check it out anyway and there it was. Unblocked 9016 and vvm works fine.
Thank you Holyrolla!
Anyone else having a persistent "new voicemail" notification that won't go away?
It's been there ever since I popped in my T-Mobile SIM.
I've looked at some other forums with other phones with the same problem. On a CM ROM, there's a clear all notifications. On some other phones, there's a setting which isn't available in our phone settings.
I remember having the same "problem" when I bought the Nexus S. I'm getting my Galaxy Nexus tomorrow so I don't know 100%, but on Gingerbread, you'd have to go into Settings >> Call menu. Inside there was a "clear voicemail" option, or something to that extent. Again, I'm sorry I don't know about ICS.
Also what you can do is if you have no voicemails, call T-Mo and ask them to remove voicemail from your account altogether, and then add it back. Of course you'd have to re-record your greeting and all that.
Yeah that's what all the prior forum posts said. Too bad that option is not here in ICS.
Well, I'll try leaving a message and erasing it to see if that does anything.

That happened to me just the other day when I got a new sim from T-Mobile since my previous one was ~4 years old.
Anyways, make sure you delete all of your voice mail messages. Then call yourself from another phone and leave a message! Go back on your phone a delete it, that solved it for me
EDIT: ...lol didn't notice that you said that's exactly what you were going to do
Well, exactly what you suggested (as I was doing it) worked =)
ALSO, because I was installing apps and such on the phone for a few days before I popped in the SIM, I ran grooveIP. Probably because of this, all my voicemail numbers were set to the google voice voicemail number (for unanswered, unavailable, or busy). Not sure if that had anything to do with it, since the voicemail notification was from the TMob 805 voicemail #. Regardless, I switched them back to the Tmob one (had to do this manually).
And after calling and leaving myself a message, it resolved itself as soon as it got notification of the new voice mail (didn't even have to delete it).
Thanks all.
Best place to ask maybe?
A guy at work just bought a 710 and he cant accept a picture message. He is on O2 and only gets the a short message. Nothing happens when he clicks it.
I never really send picture messages myself as, but because he was having trouble I send one to a friend and asked a friend to send one back. Both of us just get links to go somewhere and log in to download the picture. We are all on different UK networks.
SO... how do I ensure a picture message shows up in the thread rather than going off and downloading it elsewhere?
Is is just a case of requesting the APN from each network provider?
I think I remember setting this up back on my Nokia Ngage, but its been a long while.
Any advise would be post helpful.
go to live.com select devices and select your phone, make sure all your sms settings are corect .. right phone number , right service and so on...
This is a network problem, not the phone. Whoever receives a link must contact their carrier for MMS/APN settings. Had this problem before with Nokia 5800, needed to go to carriers website and download APN settings.
I have an HTC Trophy and my friends have either an iPhone or Android, we can see MMS just fine, either on the same or different networks. If you receive a MMS, the picture will show there as part of the thread, otherwise if it doesn't have the right settings it will just show a link to the image.
Thank you </travis> I was sure it pretty simple but its best to ensure I know what I am asking for, before I start calling the networks. I will attempt to requested the information.
P.S: Didnt seen any SMS settings on live.
I have had a similar problem with my HD7. The problem with windows phone is you cannot change the apns for mms without a unlocked phone or at least as far as i know. When you first set up the phone it copies the apn settings of the simcard and sets them into the phone.
For some reason just out of no where mms will stop working for me and will only get the message " get attachmen" or whatever the messsage actualy says. Somtimes if i click it will work somtimes it wont. I tend to find if its someone with a really old phone sending me a mms it does not work but for instance iphone to my phone works fine with out having to download from the link. So when my phone starts acting like this i simply just soft reset it and start again.
@Jakeway: First question: does he have a working data plan and data connection? SMS (and notification of MMS) come over the voice connection (a side-channel of it, actually) but the content of MMS needs a data connection.
Second question: has he tried Nokia's Network Setup app? It's in their Marketplace section ("Nokia Collection" I believe) and should configure all the APN settings, including those for MMS, for whatever carrier you select.
@leftspeaker2000: Second question above also applies to you, except since you're on an HTC phone, you should use HTC's "Connection Setup" app. It does the same thing as Nokia's app, but for HTC.

Not sure about the Nokia app, but the HTC's connection setup does not configure APNs for all the UK networks accurately. It's generally an issue with APN-less SIMs like that of giffgaff, Tesco and Talktalk. Only 3g or data connection APN gets set up, but no MMS is set up. It's been nearly 6 months and I can't receive a single MMS on giffgaff. Tried all the settings I could possibly find on Google or Bing.
I searched here and google and saw only a few hits on google, but there wasn't much information. I recommended a Robin when they were on super-sale a few months ago to a friend. She is a teacher and says that several parents who text her aren't getting through, although she can text them on her Robin using T-Mo SIM. She said that the T-Mo guy said he wasn't familiar with the Robin and told her to get a new phone
I told her that it sounded impossible since all text, voice and data is universal and that a phone should not be able to discriminate what carrier the text originated from.
I had her DL Android Messenger and try that as her text app and she said "it didn't work" although I didn't press her what exactly didn't work w. the app because we were emailing each other. Also had her restart. I asked her if she knew if these VZN/ATT people were on iPhones (maybe the people were trying to text her on iMessage (or whatever the iOS text app is called?) but she wasn't sure. She also has access to a Verizon flip phone that her brother has and she says that indeed texts from his phone don't go through to her phone.
She's going to let me look at the phone this weekend and I plan on checking if there are any filtering or settings that might be causing her not to get texts from VZN or ATT phones and then clearing the text app's (not sure what the default text app is on the Robin) data. She says that she can get texts from T-Mo and she will be bringing the brother's VZN phone for me to test. I will report back what / if anything that I find in this thread.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions what might be causing this / have ever heard of such a thing?
TIA
