Hi XDA,
My ZenFone 6 will be arriving in the mail tomorrow, thanks to ASUS USA. I know there's a lot of interest in this device, so if you have any questions feel free to ask them now. I'll look into it for you as soon as I get my device.
As for custom development support, well, stay tuned

I'm very interested to hear about the following things:
- Display quality, brightness, viewing angles in comparison to AMOLED.
- Battery life comparison. Especially with other sd855 phones like the OP7pro
- How bad is the low light performance of the camera? I'm very impressed with video performance and regular shots.
- ZenUI. Is it any faster? Any smoother? Or does it just look like stock Android and the similarities end there? How slow or laggy is it compared to the OP7pro?
Can u pls extract the stock apps of new zen ui 6.0 which can work without root
Ex: File Manager, Clock etc
Confirm the Zenfone 6 can accommodate two SIM cards and a Micro SD card.
Does zenfone 6 support dual GPS frequency like some xiaomi devices ?

You mentioned thanks to ASUS USA...? Did you order in USA? If so, which variant are you receiving? Where did you order and what carrier are you on? Details please.
Hi,
thank you for that, especially since there are a lot unknown details about that phone or OS.
I have a few questions:
1. Can you customize the Notification LED colors (for example white for emails, blue for fb, green for whatsapp)?
2. Is there any kind of private Gallery? I am not talking about hidden files accessible from the file maaager, but the gallery/messaging (I have found that screen on the internet). On MIUI you just swipe down screen with visible messages/photo albums, then it requests a passwords and displays the protected content along the others.

3. Have you considered installing GCam inistead stock photo software? Or the pre-installed is good enough?
4. Have you noticed any not so obvious features of ZEN UI 6?
Best regards,
Dominik
May you confirm that is this device only support USB2.0? and also is it still support LDAC? Thanks!
Is Always On Display possible?
How is the headphone jack output for headphones and how do the dual stereo speakers sound?
I read that the camera module rattles when the phone vibration motor is activated? The same reviewer said that the phone module gets very hot when using it in a video chat session. Can you confirm or deny any of these things?
Can you confirm LTE bands? Android Police said it had a hard time connecting to AT&T's LTE.
Which carrier will you be using it with?
Already brought up but I'm curious how the display compares to other LCD displays. Reviews seem to have it pinned as worse than other highend LCD phones like the Mate 20, wondering if it's a considerable difference.
Also very interested in the 3.5mm quality, thanks.
Oh and how is the balance of the stereo speaker with the weaker top speaker? Are Left and Right balanced 50/50? Concerned left audio will be overpowered by the right for music/video where instruments/sounds are spilt.

I'm interested in this too. I'm not familiar with any of ASUS other phones - were they USA ATT compatible? If so, I'm sure this one would be the same.
What's the haptics like on it, are they pants or actually decent?
Please shows more software, I like this new ZenUI that looks clean as AOSP. Every review of this smartphone people only show the camera, it's so tiring...
Have only had it a few minutes after unboxing it. Will answer some of the easier stuff first.

No, I got it from ASUS' US PR. This is the Midnight Black model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

1: No LED customization.
2: Nope. You can hide albums from view in the Gallery app, but that's just for organization. They're easily accessible and not password protected. The default messaging app is Google's Messages.
3: For the initial review, no. Perhaps after as a follow-up.
4: The screen recorder lets you record the internal system audio. Haven't seen that mentioned anywhere yet.

Haptics are...not that good. Definitely not the worst I've ever felt, but it's nowhere on the level of the OP7 Pro/Pixel 3 where you can *feel* the area behind where you're tapping vibrate, like when typing in Gboard. Haptic feedback when typing isn't that bad, but when the whole phone vibrates for a notification you can hear the motor and really feel the force of the shake. I made a simple Tasker action to vibrate the phone for 500ms and compared it between the ZF6 and OP7 Pro just to get a feel for it.

Camera module rattling: Haven't noticed it. To test, I set Tasker to vibrate the phone for a good second after opening the front camera. Heat: need to test for more.

Asus US PR as in Puerto Rico? You're also mentioning you're going to use it on TMobile towers so I am wondering if it is possible for me to purchase it yet in the United States? Please provide a link if you can.
As for doing more for speccing out the device you can go to KiMovil.com and check there. I can see that it should work better on TMobile than AT&T.
One more thing, what was total cost with everything included?
I use a Pixel 3a XL for some time now. (got also a new replacement phone 1,5 month ago, so fully fresh)
It was working very good and responsive with Android 9, even better with Android 10.
But after the update to Android 11, everything feels much slower, lag in apps, starting apps etc.
I already did a full wipe, factory reset, a few times, but this doesn't help.
How to make the phone (1,5 month old) feels as good as it was with Android 10 again?
I know that I can flash a custom ROM, but if possible I want to keep the original ROM.
Thanks already for the tips and tricks.
Granted my days of flashing ROMs and tinkering with Android are well gone, I heated that performance is indeed less than ideal on Android 11, especially compared with 10. So I clean flashed official 10 and installed Elemental X kernel and magisk. Security patch is out of date, but the phone is smooth and stable, with exceptional battery life, def better than stock 10, not to mention 11.
Just my experience. YMMV.
Los is currently based on 10 and is updated weekly. Is what I run as also wasn't impressed with 11
I had pretty much the same problem updating 10 to 11. I flashed 2 monthlies and 11 was noticeably laggier and slower than 10. I was thinking I was going to have to buy a new phone. I first tried to do a full wipe and flash from scratch and that resolved it. It was a night and day difference. Been 2 or 3 weeks now since I did that and I'd venture to say that its about the same speed/responsiveness now as it was on 10.
Is anyone seeing performance restored to Android 10 level now that Dec 2020 udpate is out?

no this phone is a POS and it is still horribly broken
after android 11 update
i have experienced multiple multiple issues that make this phone completely worthless and totally unusable to me since updating
including but not limited to
2)texting photos not working ,text goes though but if a photo is attached nothing goes thorugh(TMO) ,
3)visual voice mail not working in phone app(TMO)
4)using volume rocker in any way stops all sound and crashes app or stops phone from ringing , once i touch volume rocker in either direction all sound stops
5)trusted voice unlock not working, option not available
6)smart lock trusted device not working , relocks phone after a couple minutes ,tried multiple bluetooth devices make no difference phone always relocks
7)android auto automatically launches at random for no reason
8) android auto auto launch setting problem, add car bluetooth to auto launch android auto
exit settings , go back to settings, no devices listed for autolaunch , automatically deletes all auto launch devices
9) screen is not able to be used during a call in progress
screen blinks on and off while trying to use the screen during a call
10) Android auto in completely broken and unuseable now
11) google assistant is completely broken and unuseable now
says it can not reach google ,(on LTE with full bars or with wifi on on and LTE)
or it just pulls up a list of suggested things to say no matter what you try to do
or if it does register what you say it is so far off it's ridiculous , ,example: "hey google turn of the bedroom light" , registers as "jennifer" and it either does nothing or results in a google search
not able to be used for navigation, or smarthome control at all in any ways because of aforementioned issues
this phone is a piece of trash ,android 11 is a garbage fire
and Google is a criminal enterprise who refuse to honor warranties
my phone is less that 2 weeks old , bought brand new at big box store and google refuses to honor the warranty and replace my phone
i do not not what this POS, i would at least like to get a new phone running Pie
My dad has the exact same phone on the exact same carrier (T-mobile) and has not updated and i don't think he is experiencing most of these issues, probably issues with assistant auto but he never uses it so i can't really say
all i can say is that google engages in criminal behavior , they pulled the same BS with my nexus 6p's , they sold me 2 defective phones and then refused to honor the warranty with 8 months left on the warranty, i called literally hundreds of times and never got anywhere
only years later did i ever get any resolution , $200 from a class action suit for each phone when i paid over $600 for each phone had to wait almost 5 years and only got less than 1/3 of my money back not to mention all the wasted time and aggravation of dealing with these slippery slimy criminals and their games denying me my warranty

where did you buy your phone? how did you get google to honor the warranty? does your uncle work at Nintendo or something?
i had 3 google phones they refused to honor warranty on every single one of them even tough phones were nearly brand new in mint condition(not that they ever even asked or that ever got far enough along in the process where that would be relevant) with many many months left on the warranty ,

I bought my phone at Belsimpel in The Netherlands. They imported the Pixel phones, because they are not sold here officially.
After my complaints, they send my phone to Google NL, they replaced my phone without any problem.
Sometime before this Pixel I had a Pixel 2 XL, also with issues, this phone I bought at Saturn in Kleve, Germany, just over the border. I got in contact myself with Google, and I also got a brand new phone without any problem.
So maybe I was lucky...

oh ok ,i am in the US so maybe it's the region that makes the difference
because in the states you have a better chance of hitting the lottery and being struck by lightning on the same day than getting them to honor their warranties
I've noticed that over the past months now, my 3a XL is not performing as it used to. There's definitely more "jank" and stutterings and sputterings that didn't used to be there. Had it since December 2019 and been pleased with it since. But of late it's one thing or the other.
For example, the camera app takes eons to come on, laggy when i switch modes. There's just very noticeable lag in all areas when generally using the phone. A restart helps a bit, before it goes back to laggy-ness.
A bit disappointed at this pure Android device acting this way.
Not noticing much degradation here. Maybe occasional stutter (when say opening Play Store to check for available updates), but I can't remember when it didn't to that.
Even the overnight battery consumption (which was bad for a while, reported by many) has now dropped to around 0.5%/hr after something (?) got updated. I have always chosen to manually set as many apps as practical to Restricted background use. I also don't force close any apps (e.g. Greenify them) unless I suspect they're giving trouble, only Clearing them all from the multitasking pane before I go to sleep. Adaptive battery is on. Stock. Unrooted.
for everyone in here complaining about battery and stuttering issues I would suggest you try loading up MVK kernel
[KERNEL] [Android 12] [v12.9] MVK - Maximum Velocity Kernel
For those familiar with Velocity Rom this is the kernel I build for it. Velocity hasnt been on XDA as a rule so Im sure not many are familiar. Velocity is my personal Rom Ive been building for years and have shared with all that are interested...

If you read through the support page of the red magic 5 and the rwd magic 3, you'll get an idea into what your paying for.
Almost non existinal software support outside of china. Some games like Pubg stop working on basically every update (of pubg) Nubia are months behind in fixing those bugs.
The 5s is over 5 months behind in updates, and still don't have Android 11.
Some software bugs like setting default apps for things like certain links to open in apps,
Reddit, youtube etc dont work.
The sd888 is currently over heating in every model of phone made with it. With exception of the RM6 but only if you use the Ice dock while gaming. So expect to need to buy that additional accessory to get the best performance out of the device. Or if not expect it to over heat a few minutes into any heavy high graphic / demanding game.
Sure maybe after some months of bug fixes it may be better, but yoy only need to read the 5s/5s unofficial support page to read how many things have been done and what people have been dealing with since buying Nubia's last phone.
... Personally im very happy with my purchase. RM5s with latest stock rom is solid. I dont play pubg so i dont care about the people moaning about it. Everyrhing else seems to run very well, with exception to the default apps selection not saving your choices to always open in this app, its a beast of a phone.
Sd888 overheating and using way more power than the 865, for almost the same performance for me personally is not worth it.
But if you do decide to to go for the RM6, good luck. Don't say you were not warned whwn something is not right and you get a cold shoulder from nubia support. Good prediction, Android 12 is get released for the chinese varient, but global will be left behind.
Like the series 3 and currently series 5.
There are rumors that android 11 will release for series 5 soon. But series 3 global is still over 11 months behind china and 2 versions of android behind china.
Expect to be ignored as soon as the next nubia device is announced.
I already got one, with CN rom, unfortunately. I'm waiting for the global rom right now.
Currently, the phone have a few annoying issues:
1. Vanced YouTube does not work consistently
2. Locked launcher
3. E-sports handle does not work in several games, e.g. LOL WildRift
4. FFBE WoTV quits randomly
5. Overheating issue is real
That being said, the screen, sc888's performance, and the charging speed are the saving grace of this flawed device, love dat screen and the snappiness. Whether or not those would justify your purchase, your call.
I already put it on secondhand market, but if no one takes it, I won't get salty ...too much.

You have to wait for the ROM update. In order to solve the problems you mentioned above Are you my customer in Thailand?
I've got one and I'm playing PUBG Mobile, Arena of Valor and Genshin Impact.
It's Chinese ROM but easy to install Play store by apk file, and remove all Chinese apps. Play store work perfectly, with Play Protect. I even think this is an global ROM.
It had not any issues, at least for 3 days I've been using it.
Just preordered, was between this or the rog phone 5.
I like to try new manufacturers so never having tried red magic before was a factor. The 2 biggest negatives for me on the red magic 6 is that the 5g is only for china (no NA 5g bands), and official rom support, mentioned above in better detail. Would have also liked to see 2 front facing speakers as the downward one will be blocked by vice style gamepads. But are these things worth double the price for the rog phone 5? Since I went with the red magic the answer for me is no. Since I'm mostly on wifi the 5g isn't a deal breaker. In general I'm usually not in a situation where my mobile bandwidth speeds are the bottle neck in enjoying an experience, like streaming music.
For me the most important part is the gpu/888 chipset and high refresh. Check and check. Getting the cyberpods for free ($50) and free shipping was nice too.

Technically you could change it. But it wont change the bands you will have available to you. Rm6 uses the exact same 5G bands as the RM5. Chinese rom also comes with uninstallable bloatware, loads of data tracking apps, locked launcher, and a bunch of other limited features. If its anything like Android 10 on the 5 series.
Many many people in the UK and parts of europe have 5g connectivity issues with the 5g/5s so dont expect 5g to work and if it does, it will work poorly unless you're basically standing next to the tower.
Overall, chinese roms may get updated, but they will be bogged down with limted features (that you cant even use outside of China) and forced apps.
Not to mention, if the modem fikes happen to get flashed at the same time it could cause connectivity issues on all bands and networks.
The potential to really **** up is high.
But as i said above if you really want to see what you'd be getting yourself into nust read through the issues and software bugs on the support pages for the 5 series and 3 series device.
Its a pretty clear possible future, since Nubia has so far been doing the same thing as they did with the series 3 devices.

I just ordered the 6 pro. Reading through some of these comments makes me leary but one thing I've found over my many years on Android is that no two people's experience is the same. I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of my 6 pro. I'm in the US by the way.

Yes. It's original Chinese ROM.
I have one on the way. I hope issues are minimum
does anyone have this and using it on t mobile network in the USA? How does it work?
Beast is absolutely right. I got the international 6 pro with 16gb ram and it is an absolute beast. I'm attaching a screenshot of my antutu score.

Just received my phone i am using T-Mobile in California. Phone works great so far.
It wasn't until AFTER I received my P7P that I found out that it will not side load apps that are x32 bit without rooting/flashing etc.
What a PITA! I'm actually thinking about sending it back and just keeping the P6P.
Couple apps I use for work aren't x64 bit yet.
This shouldn't be a surprise from big sister Google. Big sisters just do what they want.
Google Pixel got tired of waiting and rammed it down your throat because it's in your best interests and they know better than you. Same corporation that forced you to use the cpu cycle sucking scoped storage because you're incapable of managing your phone's security.
Even more madding is their own 64 bit OS is still using 32 bit libraries, but you can't!
Global Gookill to the rescue... who's going rescue us from them? Another reason to use phones that run on Android 9 or 10. The last 3 years have yielded smartphone's with huge batteries and worse SOT. 5G isn't needed, and variable refresh rate displays come at the cost of poorer color/gamma accuracy/calibration, a higher energy consumption and likely an increased failure rate on many phones.

Good bless x64 best way less memory usage.

There is no "x" in "32 bit", nor is there in "64 bit". You are confounding things you've seen in DIFFERENT ARCHITECTURES.
Specifically, x86 architecture, and x86_64 which is the 64bit extension to x86 developed by AMD. x86_64 is sometimes abbreviated to "x64", but this specifically implies x86, which DOES NOT apply to the chip in your phone, which is ARM.

You do know Android has been x64 since 5.0 Lollipop in 2014, this is just Google doing away with what is effectively pointless now like 16 bit support in Windows

Where the SOC's though? Don't think so. It's of passing interest to me at this point as I have no plans of upgrading either hardware or firmware until the dust settles. At least 2-3 years meanwhile I'll happily run my N10+'s.

I have no doubt that's why Google is doing it. Why bum rush their customers though when Google itself still are using it? More hypocrisy from the "elite"; we can use it but you can't.

Never gave the history of it much thought. It's interesting though.
Eventually it will be a good thing except Google Android is already doing what MS did as more capable processors and hardware emerged; bogging them down with crapware. Like the forced implementation of scoped storage, what's next?
Unlike PC's there's limited space, power and cooling capacity. The latest generations of Androids are hitting that wall... hard and many suck because of it. Powerful, power hungry but barely out perform my 3yo N10+ running on Pie on most tasks and most get worse SOT even with bigger batteries. They should be almost twice as efficient not the other way around.

Well scoped storage is actually critically important, as the current evolution of the "external storage" problem that they introduced with Android 1.0.
Basically, they used to have a physical external storage device (microsd card), formatted with a zero-security filesystem (vfat), and shared with all the different programs. Now they are finally giving the USER control over what data each program actually has access to, something that was impossible with vfat.
Unfortunately, its way too late to eliminate external storage. Too many application developers depend on it.

Scoped storage is a needless burden. You control security by what you install and download as well as a firewall. The current load on this N10+* is over 2.5 yo, last firmware update was 3 years ago. It remains fast, stable with minimal maintenance. That's what Android is capable of. Security isn't an issue.
There's no saving dumb bunnies. They will always get squashed no more what you do. Just don't wreck your ride trying to save them... which is what Google just did.
Safety and trophies for everyone. not.
*My other N10+ is running on 10, it has around 100 new system apps added to maintain its functionality and usability compared to the one running on Pie. They both look and behave almost identically. I prefer Pie.

Bank accounts are 100% insured even if it gets hacked. All critical data is redundantly backed up on multiple hdds, flash drives and time staggered. I have more security than most users with up to date phones... I thought it through, most haven't.
No bank, shopping or social media apps are ever installed on my devices. Can you say the same or have you created security holes?

That's nice, and it was just an example.
A well designed operating system will allow you to conveniently run untrustworthy software without it being allowed to do anything dangerous.
Do you understand? Its purpose is to make life EASIER, not impossible. You shouldn't have to use weird, difficult, and frankly pointless workarounds.
And to be blunt, going through a web browser puts you at HIGHER risk than using a purpose built application, because of its added complexity and the fact that it needs more permissions since you use it for more than just one thing.

When I got my first phone that had variable refresh, I set it for 60, then showed the phone to everyone at work saying it was a new 90hz phone. They all clamored about how silky smooth it was. Then, I showed them it was on 60, set it to 90 and they couldn't tell the difference. LOL
First thing I do with a new phone, is enable developer options, set all the animation to 0.5x, set the refresh rate to 60, DISABLE 5G. 4G is FAST enough for a stupid phone anyway.
Hello everyone,
I'd really like to buy this phone, I know it's about 4 years old.
I have some questions about the compatibility with different apps.
Does the Nova Launcher works on this ? I don't care about Gestures ....
What about the YouTube Vanced and AoD Notify ?
Are there some custom ROMs ?
What are the cons right now, here in Europe ( Germany ) with this mobile phone ?
I do not care about 5G. 4G should be more than enough for me.
Any advices are welcome, thank you
Get the Note 10+ instead; better specs, more ram and up 1tb expandable storage. The Exynos variants can be rooted but the Snapdragon variants are faster. Excellent build quality and it's a running machine.
6 GB ram and 128 GB memory should be okay for me

Never can have too much ram or storage, 256/12gb is the base model. One of the best displays out there. Best display to bezel ratio of anything out there. Very good cams.
Personally I take One UI over Nova; faster, capable, more efficient and very stable.
Only possible deficiency is no 3.5mm jack.
No variable refresh rate and ones with no 5G get very good SOT once optimized. These will run extremely well stock and as such the UI is very customizable.

Nova works, at least on global version.
I bought a second hand mate 20x after a Xiaomi mi mix, and it's the best choice for sure. There is no other screen like this. And everything works all right, all the software, cameras, battery for 2 days long... It's unbeatable in every way.
even with foldables you get a smaller video in 16:9 ratio and you always enjoy the full screen.
i have a book case and it's like a foldable but without the problems of battery, breakable, etc

Vanced YouTube works as well. FNG gestures works perfect without root.
I can't root or install any different firmware. I thought I was going to miss it from my Xiaomi mi mix, but not so much. I just can't use Titanium backup and can't get rid of all the ads, but I can use dns.adguard.com as a private DNS and it avoids quite some ads.
It's running EMUI 12 and Huawei is still updating its kernel...
Even if I could spend 2000€ in another phone and 20x would cost the same I would choose 20x any time just for the aspect ratio and big unbeatable screen, speakers, robustness and battery optimization.

I still rock mine with long battery life of 7 - 9 days under medium use.
My global phone at one point had Nova launcher but eventually it was uninstalled because Nova eats away at battery. Besides, the phone is faster and snappier without it.
Vanced still works on it which is crazy cool.
For installing custom roms, downgrading to 9.0/9.1 is a necessity. But doing so may render newer apps inoperable. Personally, EMUI 12 is better than any version before it - even though its bootloader is locked and installing custom roms is a no no.
Cons for Germany? I cant say since I'm not in Europe.
The only 2 idiotic annoyances with the phone are: 1) auto brightness is enabled at startup and 2) notifications to update to network time. Although the notifications dont happen a lot theyre still annoying. Had there been none of these issues, the phone would be perfect.
At one point, I was thinking of selling it and buying the Note 20 ultra which can be upgraded to One UI 5.1, a very nice UI upgrade touch. But in the end I found myself keeping my 20x because of its wide aspect ratio (which unfortunately phone makers have abandoned as I'm still scratching my head over that) and bigger screen even though the Note 20 Ultra may have sharper resolution. However, if one day my 20x does become broken I will not buy another 20x. Instead I'll buy the N20U.
If you have more questions let me know.

Appreciate that. I have 2 questions..
1) If you could get the Note 20 Ultra brand new in exchange for the 20x would you exchange it?
2) I keep getting notifications on "network time unavailable" to enable location. How do I disable this annoying notification?
1) Not even a S23 Ultra. Why? Mainly because I'd lose almost 1cm width and 1cm height of screen with the same weight. I'm sure the battery wouldn't last as long, the fingerprint wouldn't work as well, and most probably the UI would be a little faster with 120Hz but again, with a lot of battery drain, I'd miss the 3.5 audio jack and the super speakers from the Mate 20X. I'm not a gamer, but gaming would be something that probably would run faster in the S23 Ultra compared to the Mate 20X. I don't use a Stylus. Phone camera sensors are limited by their size. For the rest I'm sure there is no real gain. Whatsapp, Youtube and Chrome are my main usage of the phone and all I need is the biggest screen and better sound as possible.
2) No clue

Got to say you're wrong about the battery comparison. The s23 ultra"s battery greatly exceeds the one in the 20x by far.
