I have had my Arc since it first came out in the UK but have noticed on occasions of late that it seems to have developed a lag, especially on things like accessing the gallery & messaging. Has anyone else noted this?
Nope. However I do use a cache cleaner every few weeks.

Yup, after about 2 weeks mine started to lag every once in a while. I just assumed it was because of some faulty app. So I did a clean install, and 2 weeks later it was the same again. (didn't install too many apps this time)
Mine is still great.
try an app called fast reboot....I find it speeds things up
No lag at all here, 2 months in.
Had the Arc (UK) about 2 months and in the last two weeks things have really started to lag. Have had to resort to rebooting and cleaning the cache regularly but it only takes a day to start lagging again. Wondering whether there is a CPU/ memory hog there in my app suite or a widget but haven't been able to identify anything yet. Once the phone goes below 40-50MB free it is all over and I have to reboot.
This may sound weird but my phone lags during the day and it runs super fast at night lol

I have this lags, too. But I had not to reboot the system, yet...
Any more ideas?
Cheers!

After update on Android 2.3.3 i don't hve any lag. Before that I had lag but nothing to worry about. I think it was Android 2.3.2 that cousses lag.

Same here after about 1 to 2 days the phone memory goes to about 25MB and is practically not useable and need to reboot. I am on 2.3.3
I went through my apps & by trial & error ended up removing a particular app & that seems to have sped things up a bit. Also downloaded a history cleaner & used that & that has improved things a bit as well. But in certain areas it definitely still seems to lag. Have to wonder now if it is something to do with the Arc's hardware?
ok guys after using SeePU+++ i think i found the process that uses the most cpu power and lags down our Arc is "ndroid.process.acore"
not sure what it does but i believe it is the culprit for random slow downs and lag on our phone...
does anyone know what it does? can anyone confirm my findings?
P.s. I am on global generic 2.3.3 firmwre 145
This problem may be caused by a bug in the Google Contacts Sync , just as seen in this bug:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2377
In other devices like HTC Evo this problem persist
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-sup...ore-why-sucking-up-so-much-battery-power.html
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-sup...andom-reboots-magic-bullet-facebook-sync.html
I don't have the Google Sync activated and i don't feel my Arc Laggy
This phone is incredibly laggy. Many FCs or lags when I open the messaging app or other apps... Very sad and frustrating.
One of the major causes of lag on the HTC hero was having too many text messages stored on the phone. Ever since then i tend to not let the numbers build up too much, and i havent noticed any lag problems on the arc (maybe it's a general android problem).

one of the main android apps, your keybord and other important funtions are here, so my advice : dont touch it or you end up reflashing ROM
Hey,
I got my N7, 16GB WiFi, 1½ month(s) ago, and it was amazing. I was playing games, like Modern Combat 4, at a super smooth frame rate, I was browsing the web at amazings FPS's, just the general UI was so fluid.
The day I got it, I unlocked, flashed a recovery and rooted. I play the game I mentioned above, MC4, a lot and am quite good at it. I though that it would be a good idea to record what I was doing and show the world! (www.youtube.com/user/StealthGamingAndroid if you want to see)
The game was smooth before, just playing, and was still smooth after. What impressed me was that even while recording, it felt like I still had amazing frames.
About a week or so ago, that stopped. I was getting lag, the game was jittery and making the whole thing unplayable, even when not recording. But it wasn't just the game. The whole UI felt, even though it wasn't terrible, sluggish.
I didn't/haven't changed my setup, regarding ROM, Kernel or Processor Speeds since the day I got it. It is running the version of 4.3 it came with out of the box. (My choosing to keep it on that and not update)
The only things I have done regarding root have been using SCR Pro, the recording software, and using Xposed and Gravitybox.
I do not know what is causing this sudden lag, and how I can fix it. A brief search on Google didn't turn up anything that I could relate to. So I present to you my question.
How do I fix this lag?
I do not mind if it means using root, flashing a new ROM or even a new kernel. (Never flashed a different kernel on all 4 of my devices) Over clocking I also haven't done, but if it means removing the lag, I will consider it.
I am extremely grateful for what ever solutions or suggestions you give me, and will happily look into them.
Thank you for your time reading this, and for helping a confused user out.
Faithfully,
-R
Boot into recovery, clear you caches, boot normally, see if that fixed it, if not...boot into safe mode and see if the problem persists, if that fixed it, it's one or more of your apps, you'll have to either flash to stock and reinstall one at a time, when it starts lagging again you've found the app, or remove one at a time and see when it stops, if the problem still occurs in safe mode, backup and flash back to stock and see if it persist, if it does, maybe it's hardware.

That has fixed some of it, but it still feels choppy. (The wiping of the caches, I mean)

I use an app called Clean Maste. You can get it in the Play Store. It's basically like CC Cleaner on the computer (if you don't have it, get it!). Just clear all the stuff in the junk option EXCEPT obsolete APKs. If you know what you're doing, cleaning in Junk Advanced can help too.
Also, be sure to delete all the apps you don't need, and clear your multitasking often.
For a big performance boost. you can overclock your tablet. First, tell us if the other things work above. If not, PM me and I'll be glad to teach you to overclock

Did you try uninstalling Xposed?
When my tablet lags a little, I usually turn it completely off for a couple minutes. This helps me quite a bit.
This may sound dumb or crazy but you got to remember that it's a computer and turning it off once or twice a week will clear the cobwebs.

Totally agree.
Hi,
I was wondering if any of you have had any lag with Snapchat on the 5X. I have had problems with Snapchat from since I got the phone at launch, updated the app a few times and I have the current version. Half of the time it works smoothly, and half the time it is a mess, laggy and freezing when swiping between the camera/stories/etc. It's worst when I have FB Messenger chat heads on. It also makes the whole phone lag even when it's in recent apps but not open.
I have a 32GB version (I doubt this makes any difference), rooted with TWRP but no real modifications. Is this a marshmallow issue? I've never had this problem in the past on 5.1.1 and prior (Nexus 5, Oneplus One, Moto G, Xperia Z3C among others).
Thanks all.
I'm with you dude. The Nexus 4 had a camera hardware defect that would freeze the phone once every few pictures. I will be furious if SnapChat come up with a "GOOGLE'S FAULT NEXUS 5X HARDWARE PROBLEM" excuse again.
Exactly the same issue as me. I use snapchat almost every day and its a ridiculous mess. My sister has a Moto G 3rd Gen with 2GB of RAM and it is so smooth. So I don't understand why it hasn't been optimized for the 5X yet, no reason for all this lag! Several times its locked up my phone and won't exit to the home screen.

I still have my Xperia Z3 Compact and I have no issues with it. It's ridiculous. No other app gives me problems.
I thought I had some issues but I noticed the same thing in Stock and Chroma using ElementalX. I notice the IO usage in my system monitor hits nearly 100 MB/s for 3-4 seconds while the phone locks up.
Same. I am part of the beta and posted bug reports about lag and freezes on the 5X and 6P (idk if the 6P has the issue). I doubt it will do anything, but doesn't hurt to let out my frustration
I have the same issue. Hope this is something a Snapchat update can fix
Same problem with my 32GB version N5X, not only thirdparty apps, but also the Google camera app. I don't want to use the camera any more and I miss my Nexus5 with marshmallow which works so smoothly.

I'm in the same boat. Rebooting fixes it temporarily. It's a pain in the ass.
same problem with snapchat freezing and being incredibly slow while my 2013 n5 was always buttery smooth. also have other weird camera ****, like vivino capturing pictures upside down and ****. really really irritating and basically my only problem with the n5x
Just got the 9.19.1.0 Beta and it seems to be working better. I'll need to give it a couple hours to see if the usual lag kicks in.

Seemed like a lot of people are having the lag issue with N5X camera. Google should fix this problem, otherwise I want to get a refund.
Google camera lags not only within the app itself but also slows down the Android system.
I have already contacted google to get a replacement. Hopefully the new phone doesn't have camera issue.

Does that mean this is a hardware issue which cannot be fixed by new FW? Bad news for me, I'm in PRC and I bought my n5x through an unusual way, it's almost impossible to do RMA.[emoji24]

I hear you all. Same problem with Snapchat here.
Considering a uninstall.
Disabling access to the camera actually fixes it. But then again..

me too i have the same issue laggy and freezing since i bought the phone and when they download the update 6.0.1 the problem still the same I don't know why still and sometimes the camera app laggy I hope is anyone can help us with issue really I felt bored from the phone
So I am a power snapchat user and had this same problem and might have accidentally stumbled on a possible solution after having a login failure. I enabled the travel mode so it's not downloading constantly. I installed snapprefs and I can't explain why but it's flying now. No lag on window switching or opening the camera. I'm on 6.0.1 December rooted
I'm on 6.0.1 and Snapchat version 9.20.5 with Snapprefs installed.. the app is almost unusable.
It's definitely app-side issues because I too suffered from terrible lag and stuttering on Snapchat only for a long, long time but then a few updates seemed to fix it. Now it's back to being bad again with MM 6.0.1...... hopefully they will fix it soon
any issues with snapchat still?

Still issues.
In general my 5X seems to lag when the camera is in use
I was having these major snapchat issues while on stock and while on some of sonicron's tweaks to the ElementalX kernel, however snapchat has been purring along ever since I went to the PureNexus ROM (includes it's own kernel, not sure if there is anything special about it). Used snapchat all weekend during my partying and not one issue with no reboots required.
Hey all!
My N5X is running stock, completely unaltered (not unlocked, not rooted, no custom recovery, etc.).
The longer it goes without rebooting, the slower it gets.
Eventually, it starts registering long-presses when I only push very quickly on the screen, and this comes with a lag of the UI in general.
I also noticed audio would start skipping after a while.
1. Am I the only one noticing this?
2. Do any of you have an idea of what could be causing this? Sounds like a memory leak, either from an app or the system, but I could be wrong.
3. How would you go about troubleshooting this?
Thanks!
We have multiple posts discussing about lags:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/nexus-5x-lag-t3235343
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/snapchat-lag-5x-t3250747
So you are not alone.
I saw things about Snapchat and anything involving a camera in general.
But haven't seen anyone complain of false long-presses yet =(
I've had mine running 2 weeks straight before the OTA, and was surprised (and impressed) that I never had any random reboots or slow down.
Stock, with fairly basic apps - stock google apps and a couple games.
I'm completely with you on this one. Lag central, slow downs, I'm at a reboot every 2-3 days now before it becomes unusable to take pictures.

I just got the Nexus 5X some 2-3 weeks ago. First week or two was smooth sailing after setting up the phone as a brand new phone in the initial setup process. I did not restore a backup from a previous phone.
Since then, I've had occasional freezing of apps like the homescreen freezes momentarily and becomes black and unresponsive only to be back to normal shortly thereafter. Likewise I had freezes with Google Music and Chrome. Today however has been my worst attack of freezing. I am reading some articles on Chrome and the bloody thing freezes like crazy. Scrolling is unresponsive and very rough, the interface becomes unresponsive. Home/Back/Recents buttons become unresponsive. I am not sure if the websites are at fault, they are salon.com and huffingtonpost.com that I am reading. And this issue seems very pronounced and doesn't go away in a short while like before. I still have the problem after like 10-15 minutes. Looks like other apps like Facebook are mostly okay, although I see a occasional slow down there.
I note that I am charging my phone while doing this browsing and I am wondering if the heating up of the phone due to charging is causing issues. Is this what people refer to as lag on this phone? Is there a solution?
EDIT: I used an app called "CPU temp" and saw the temperature to be around 39-40C. Also, I read elsewhere on XDA that the CPU is throttled at around 37C in the default kernel. So could this be why I saw all that lag? Now I don't seem to have any issues with Chrome anymore and I can navigate any page including on Salon.com fairly well although Salon is still a bit laggy on not just this but other phones I have, so their website may also have some issues.
