I am considering buying S20 plus.
Can you unlock the phone with just the fingerprint scanner or do you need to first press the power button? If both have to be pressed what is the point of not having the fingerprint scanner on the power button?

Basically, my power button is screwed. It is constantly held down, so I cannot lock/unlock my phone and everything else you use the button for. I realised the other day that I don't press the optical sense button down...at all. So I wonder, is it possible to turn that button into my power button? and just disable the power button all together.
Is it possible to unlock phone with touching fingerprint sensor only while screen is off?. All my other phones had accept this one. I don't mean pushing button in or double tapping the screen to wake up first.
nope
You can push the power button and hold your thumb stationary on the press down to wake and unlock at the same time.
But no you can't wake the phone without issuing a wake command (power button or double tap touchscreen).
I hoped there would a be an app to assign the unlock function or a magisk module. My. Lenovo p2 and htc 10 both unlocked out of the box
I recently acquired S9+. I use fingerprint to unlock the phone, but I am seeing that the phone unlocks directly from the AOD if I touch the fingerprint scanner.
In S7, I had to press the power key from AOD to get to lock screen and then touch the fingerprint scanner. This prevented accidental unlocks. S9+ unlocks without pressing the power key or going to the unlock screen. This is causing me lot of trouble as the phone unlocks if I even touch the fingerprint scanner.
Any way to force pressing the power key to get to unlock screen and then touch the fingerprint scanner to unlock?
Thanks,
Arun
Currently there is no other way, coming from the S7 myself it also took some time getting used to. However, in the long run I've found it convenient as simply placing my finger on the scanner unlocks the phone which is faster compared to pressing the home key on the S7.
My power button doesn't work so the only way to power on my phone is by adb. I unlock android with the fingerprint scanner. So can I boot up the device with the finger print scanner?

No, but you can boot into the OS using fastboot actually. Press and keep holding volume down button, while connecting USB cable to your phone. Then, enter "fastboot reboot" (assuming you have fastboot drivers installed). Your phone will reboot immediately.

Haven't tested it but it looks like he can not only lock and unlock his phone but also go to power menu with fingerprint. If you can also boot the phone when it's powered off idk.

It's possible but....
In theory if you create a stand by mode, just to keep minimal power to feed the power of finger print device, it's possible...

Imagine if you install red led on reader, and when power on , appears on the bootanimation E.T the extraterrestrial showing his red finger and saying on a good "MP4 BOOTANIMATION" E.T PHONE HOME Hahahahaha!
I know you can re-map the bixby button to open an app that will toggle mute the sound. However, when you double-press the bixby button with the screen off, will the act of double pressing the bixby button wake the screen??
What I am looking to do is re-mapp the button so that it acts like an iphone/Oneplus alert slider so that when the phone is in my pocket I can double press the bixby button and the phone goes into silent mode. But I don't want the screen to wake up when I do this.
Any advice on how to achieve this without waking the screen will be most appreciated. Perhaps the best way is to use tasker??
Thanks and appreciate any pointers, particularly from someone who already has this set-up
S20 line don't have Bixby button
I think OP meant the power button.
Power Button Remapper for S20 / Note 10 - sideActions will let you do that.

I did indeed mean the "combined" power and bixby button. Thanks for your suggestion ??
