Best Device for LOS (+MicroG)? - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hi,
i am planing to buy a new phone and I will use it with LOS + MicroG.
What Hardware will work best?
I do not like huge phones and prefer smaller ones. My last device was a BQ X Pro (also with LOS+MG) which had a nice size.
But most important is that everything just works as expected and there are developers willing to support it during the next years.
From my research the Poco F3 might be an option.
I also like the OnePlus Nord2 from hardware perspective. Unfortunately there is only an unofficial release and community seems to be rather small.
Any suggestions?

Difficult to say - I'd suggest open all items in

Currently about 190... and do a shoot out based your preferred specs.
For me, that would be:
RAM 4GB or more (by now rather 6GB)
Dual SIM AND dedicated memory card
64GB memory or more
width less than 76mm (or 73 like your BQ)
battery at least 4500mAh
And once you got that slimmed to down, look for any caveats and kick those out as well.
Quite possibly you want to go for a common device to ensure a wide user base (and thus better support):

Edit: Why MicroG? Google is evil, isn't it?

Yes. Evil. But some apps need it. So microG is the factor 1000 less evil alternative.
Don't buy Samsung. VoLTE issue still not solved.
Pixel phones are not evil.

After reading
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroG
I'm getting interested in that myself...
Obviously there's more to it and I finally found their reqs and list... I see it's really hard(er) work to pick the right one - bookmarked for reference, learned something here, thanks!
Oh and good luck Looking forward to see your choice.
PS: Full ack boycotting Samsung (but rather for their software and policies). Never thought of Pixels, they never survived my shootouts due to mediocre batteries and mutilated screens...

Full-ACK on this and that's the main reason for getting back from LOS+MG after trying an iPhone for more than a year now. Some Apps might not work with MicroG (due to bad programming and unnecessary dependencies) but most of them are replaceable with a better app or are not really relevant. There is just a single app that really annoys me, because it is really great but depends on google-in-app-lincense-****. Only way was to license it on a spare phone with GAPPS, do a titanium backup and restore on MG device. Hope that still works...

From my research Samsung does not support LOS / custom ROMs for several years but I liked the hardware in the past and my Galaxy S1 worked nice with Cyanogen.
If we ignore the fact that google develops and produces the hardware in combination with the closed firmware, that me have to trust, I think that the hardware is way overpriced. I had a Google Nexus 5 which was great when I bought it and it had a fair price. If I compare hardware and price from the current google devices this seems rather ridiculous.
Same with the current OnePlus devices in comparison to former devices like the OnePlus One. But I think I would currently still prefer any OnePlus device over Googles devices for obvious reasons...
@SigmundDroid :
I know this device list and have already checked it but I was looking for experiences and thought that maybe someone was on a similar search and might have some experiences to share.
But the "Stats"list is indeed interesting and I did not know it. Do you know how this is generated. There are some really old devices in the top of the list. Are they still active or have they just been active in the past?

The stats list only contains data from devices that have been activated the previous 7 days - and there is a toggle in lineageOS to take part in that counting.
Besides some probably faked numers, you see good coverage of old phones. Unknown country means those phones run without sim card. Those are the really old phones maybe used as media player.

I did a lot of research and some tests now. So I thought I should just provide a small update here.
ASUS Zenfone 8 seemed to be the winner from stats if you consider size. (had a test device but did not unlock it)
I really like the device although I don´t like fingerprint readers to be integrated in the display. It´s not as bad as you might read in some reviews but why the hell would i put a fingerprint reader in a display if I just can put it on the back? (works perfectly and I just have my finger there anyway, when pulling the device out of my pocket!)
So now the Points that suck:
- ASUS has a strange way to unlock the bootloader and does not allow you to ever relock it
- Camera is great but only with stock ROM (ASUS Cam does not work, GCAM might work under special conditions but not seems be a satisfying solution, opencamera is night with good light conditions but fails as soon as it gets darker)
- small user base
==> not worth the money. I would pay the price, if ASUS would be more open minded to alternative ROMs and the Cam would also work on these like on stock ROM.
I also checked a Poce F3 just to see if I could arrange with the size. But it is just way to big, like almost any other available devices.
So, if you consider size, the only interesting alternative seems to be the Google Pixel 4a, which unfortunately is not available any more. So you can buy a totally overpriced one from a shop or try to make a good shot on ebay (what I did).
My device will arrive in a few days and I will report after testing.
During my research I also notices the GrapheneOS Project, which seems to be an interesting (maybe even better?) alternative to LOS (but only works with Google devices). I will also test this and report back here about my findings.
If anybody has another good suggestion that I missed, please let me know. But unfortunately everybody seems to like those small tablets in their pockets instead of normal phones, so I doubt you can find one...

I'm thinking the OnePlus 9 Pro, code name lemonadep, at least for use in the USA.

Think I bricked my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s for good.
Looking for the very same: Small reliable phone, good battery life and big community (-> long support). Maybe a decent camera.
@topaza What did you buy?

Google Pixel 4a.
Not much alternatives out there if you want a small device.
If you buy one, you might also consider to go with GrapheneOS instead of LOS+MG.

Did someone find a way to install a Custom ROM for the Fire Phone?

I stumbled across this website with instructions for installing a custom ROM on the Fire Phone. Can anyone confirm this? I'm only know enough to follow instructions.
I'm too new to post a link. Just Google:
custom ROM fire phone
You're looking for the nsme rom-lollipop.
It may be a scam. It asks you to complete offers to download the files. But, people in the article comments say it worked.
It's just ads / survey scam behind shortened links, as you said. The people in the comment section aren't "real", also just fake accounts used to make it look more legit.
Just remember the site layout and graphics, because the people behind this have dozens of domains registered, that lead to sites that look just like the one you found.
that's too bad. i just find it hard to believe we have a root method and no custom recovery/bootstrap. I remember when palm went under and had firesales on their phones and tablets. dev's crack it open and loaded android on them. this is a decent spec device and with all the cameras you'd think someone would eventually get some project tango features integrated.

Look at it from Amazons perspective: they want their devices to be (almost) closed plattforms. Providing a method of unlocking the bootloader for all their devices is not in their interest. (I'm not going to start discussing the HDX bootloader case ^^)
Yes, the device is decent, but there are so many alternatives. So as of now I highly doubt that anyone will be looking for an exploit or any possibility to unlock the bootloader.
i'm not worried about the locked bootloader. it doesn't have to be unlocked for custom roms, plenty of devices with locked bootloaders have custom roms. we have root so we should be able to have a bootstrap method. we're just lacking in dev support. i can't blame them at all, i'm just saying for about $100 device (if your already renewing prime) this is a pretty high spec device and has hella potential. wishing it had the support of the old palm's.
I'm also confused - Fire Phone is brutal device for current price. I was expecting much broader adoption after drastic price drop.
Sent from my SD4930UR using XDA Forums
you will see a drastic increase in adoption if the bootloader has been unlocked

of course. but if no one adopts it, no one cracks the bootloader: its a catch-22. but again, everyone worries about the bootloader but that's not everything. with proper root we can have a bootstrap and custom roms which would be a million percent improvement... for example: every verizon galaxy since the s4...
this is my first fire device and thought "for the price, what the hell". turns out i absolutely hate fireos, haven't used the device at all until the latest update with root, google play, and a proper launcher.

i got it for 10 euros with a year of amazon prime, so it was a no brainer.
you stole it. i paid about 10 times that after the year of prime.

huge pricing error in germany. many people got it for that price.
10 euros is an amazing deal. Really the price tag on this phone is amazing even at the non German price. So much so that I hope I get a chance to buy another one before they liquidate completely. Did some benchmarks and got performance better than the Galaxy s5 (as listed using vellamo) except for the single core test.
Anyway it seems to me that developers would adopt the phone, but it was also such a great flop that it might just continue to be neglected. I'm okay with that, but I would really like to see some development to replace some of the less functional bits of the fire os
It's too hard to get a custom ROM for Amazon fire phone.
1. The bootloader has been locked and no way to unlock.
2. We haven't found an available recovery for it.
3. We don't have the drivers of the phone.
4. Some software by amazon are used for the adaptation of the device, but we cannot make sure we can still use them in the new ROM. Such as the fix of the position of touch.
I agree, that's a bummer to not have dev support. No one wants to spend time developing for Fire OS and limit themselves to a small market niche when they can develop native Android apps and target 60%+ of the smartphone world. I bet so many cool things can be done with 5 front facing cameras, given development hours and diverse creativity input. Such a waste :/

I don't think "5 front facing cameras" is a good design.
Actually I disabled it immediately when I got my phone to save power.
It doesn't make sense.
5 front facing cameras
I am wondering if the camera system will ever be able to scan objects for 3D information, and send data to some 3D printer setup. Might be fun.

It seems the 4 cameras in the corners are "ultra-low-powered specialized cameras", so I guess they work just for the sake of the gimmicky Dynamic Perspective.
If it's like that, what a waste of cameras.
The 4 cameras and pseudo-3D was a gimmick, in hindsight it would've been better for amazon to do its own gearVR-like accessory instead given that eye-tracking doesn't come anywhere close to the quality of VR
Besides the VR market its nowhere near the saturation of mobile so amazon could've gotten its foot on the door rather than competing with android in that respect
As for the bootloader situation has anyone considered posting a reward to get more devs to try to unlock it?
There is (or was): http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/help/bootloader-unlock-development-t3022030
And there was a change.org petition for Amazon to unlock the bootloader (I doubt they care): http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/general/petition-posted-to-change-org-to-unlock-t3009342

Potentially buying OP 3; couple questions

Hello.
I'm thinking of buying a used OnePlus 3 for 338 Euro (my budget is around that price) and therefore I'd like to ask some questions.
1. Is this a good deal or am I better off waiting for OnePlus 3T to go on sale on the official site?
2. Is the bootloader unlock process problematic? Have you faced any issues with it or is it hassle-free? Coming from an LG device, I want to be extra careful with this.
3. I plan to have this device for a longer period of time, around 3-4 years. Is OnePlus 3 a viable choice, despite the fact that it will soon be a year from its release? Will it be able to hold off for that long, in terms of ROM support and general performance/usage?
4. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me? Are there anything you don't like about the phone? Or any general culprits specific to the OnePlus 3?
5. If I decide to buy this specific OnePlus 3, is there sort of a "checklist" (things that I should check) I should go through to verify that it's all good? Anything I should ask/tell the seller? Any other tips when buying this phone? I really don't want to get screwed, so I'd like some insight from you guys.
That would be all for now.
Thanks in advance.

I will try to answer as many of your questions as possible.
2: Bootloader unlock process is a breeze if you read the FAQ in our Guides section. I did not run into any problems.
3: ROM support has been great so far in my opinion. More and more options are popping up each day. I believe OnePlus has also provided from developers on here a free device for them to develop on.
4: I bought my OP3 in October as an upgrade to my Nexus 5. I was furious when they basically released the same phone with a bigger battery in the OP3T though. The reason I didn't jump on the OP3 immediately when it released was because I wanted a bigger battery and then a month after I received my OP3, the OP3T comes out.
I also don't like how camera is only optimized on stock based roms right now because OnePlus has not released camera sources. Also don't like how a new they release a new firmware with each update that breaks things on certain roms. I guess I was spoiled on how easy it was to switch roms on my old Nexus 5.
5: I haven't bought a used phone before but I would suggest making sure the IMEI is not blacked out somehow? Check the screen THOROUGHLY. The screen scratches really easily on this phone. I noticed micro scratches on my screen only after a few weeks of use.

Dont know whether waiting is better for getting a better price. OP3T should be a bit more in price...... so you decide.
2. bootloader unlockig is very easy, no problems
3. i read about the OP2, getting slow updates. BUT trust in xda and CM, there will be a very long support for this device. (Looking at OnePlus One, there are plenty of good rom-devs till now, and will be in future)
but OP said, they will update OP3 and OP3T the same time, so you may expect good official support.
4. have got the OP3 and im very satisfied with the phone. very good/fast fingerprint unlock and real good cam. (not exceptional, but solid good cam)
5. dont know
Great rom and kernel support.
I also had to choose between op3 and op3t and i took the normal one. Its already blazing fast, so i safed the money for snapdragon update. No need.
And i make it easily through the day with the battery, so also no need.
So i am very happy with it and will also use it for at least 4 years.
2. Just go over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3398733
3. Support is plenty for the OP3, especially over here at XDA.
4. Imho this is the best phone I ever had, and I had a few! Pure Performance, no input lags, no microstutters! And with 6GB RAM you don't have to worry about bottlenecks.
I can warmly recommend this one! And with AKT profiles you don't have to worry about battery life! ?
Gesendet von meinem ONEPLUS A3003 mit Tapatalk
What's the service menu hidden code for this phone? (Europe/Asia variant)
3-If it were me, I'll hold off for OP4 or something...since super size screen like the G6 or devices that have nougat feature hardware are coming to the market. Also, since op3 is outta production, with no new user of op3, I would expect ROMs or stuff in general to be more optimize for op3t.
4-I don't like the mono speaker, camera bump and no suitable temper glass now. Been using without protection for a year now and the only micro scrape came from S pen.
5-Aside from imei check, the other definite proof is dash charge. Get the official dash charger and charge on the spot. If there's a dash charge comment at the bottom, can charge 1% in +-30s, you got the real deal. If there's a return period, immediately root the phone and flash with some ROMs here to see if stuff working, no motherboard change and ect. OP warranty covers rooting.

1. The oneplus 3 is an awesome deal. If you can find it at 400 or under, I think it is worth it. I firmly believe this device will have a long life because of the hardware, oneplus, and the xda community. If you plan on keeping the phone for several years, purchasing some sort of warranty from oneplus might not be a bad idea. Just in case accidental drop water spill or something like that.
2. Bootloaderunlock is stupid easy. Allow bootloader unlocking, then fastboot oem unlock. Done. No special codes, none of that bull that Samsung and LG are putting out.
3. Kind of talked about this in number one, but we have top three dev communities for sure. We'll be getting tons of support for the years to come. I think 4 years is pushing it for any device, I could see 3 given the power of the SD 820, 6gigs of ram, and our dev community.
4. I love my oneplus 3. It's just consistent performer. I know if I put it on the charger for 30 minutes or so on the way to work/school I will have enough power to make it through the day without any of the freezes, hickups, or glitches that plague Samsung and LG. I've been running the official ressurection remix for the past couple days and performance has been beyond fantastic. Even on OOS and the Open Betas, it outclassed all the other android phones I have owned or looked at in shops.
5. It's not like the Samsung or other carrier branded phones where one version is bootloader unlockable and others are not. (Like Samsung with the T-mobile variants and Verizon/ATT variants). Identical to how the Nexus 6p was. A1 and A2, one standard and one international model. I haven't heard any mass reports of the phone dieing at 40 percent like what was happening to the 6p and 5x and have heard nothing like the bootloops caused by LG.
General tip, unless you want to read a ton of people complaining, stay off the OnePlus forums. No harm to them, but there's a lot of people that are just looking for anything to whine and complain about.

Thank you very much for your response, it's extremely encouraging. I just got the response from the seller that the phone was bought in July 2016, was in a protective case from day one, and apparently has no damage at all. Am I still encouraged to go for it? I really, really like this phone and I definitely wouldn't want to miss the chance if it's the right one. Any tips on how could I additionally verify the phone's reliability when meeting with the seller, both software and hardware-wise?

Hmm, ask him to let it get low on charge and see if dash charge should get 3A or more in an app like ampere if the battery is under 40%.. e. Launch the camera, take some pictures record a video, if you have usb otg try using that.. But that's just basic stuff for any phone. Check the screen at angles for cracks
If you like it, get it! ?
Some really good questions, here are my thoughts on them:

I would say (if you're not super excited to purchase soon) - wait for it. Not just for the sale though, they might even bring the midnight black in 64GB later and cut prices on it along with the regular models. OP is like that - completely going against their previous statements
2. Is the bootloader unlock process problematic? Have you faced any issues with it or is it hassle-free? Coming from an LG device, I want to be extra careful with this.
Its a breeze, there is not one but two communities there to help you with it anyway.

I had a OPO before I switched to OP3 - each of the device is a winner. And as you can see, it has been more than 8 months since OP3 release and it is still one of the most popular devices on XDA. There are many ROM/Kernel options, however, due to the camera blobs hassle, many people are staying on OOS based ROMs.
4. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me? Are there anything you don't like about the phone? Or any general culprits specific to the OnePlus 3?
I am really happy with my phone and will definitely recommend it to anyone. It is a very pretty phone no matter what color you opt for.
Things I don't like:
1. Unavailability of better-looking screen protectors - there are ones which dont cover the edges, and then there are ones which cover the whole screen and the top and bottom bezels, but I have heard they don't have a very nice feel.
2. On OP3, Battery life is average - on mobile data you get 3Hrs of SoT with average use I think it would be a bit better on the 3T.
3. Camera bump
5. If I decide to buy this specific OnePlus 3, is there sort of a "checklist" (things that I should check) I should go through to verify that it's all good? Anything I should ask/tell the seller? Any other tips when buying this phone? I really don't want to get screwed, so I'd like some insight from you guys.
I would recommend getting a new one, used tech is almost always a risky decision. However if you do go for a used one, probably checking the camera, dual-SIM functionality, 4G reception on your network, fingerprint sensor and capacitive touch buttons are the first things to check.
Also look for any dead pixels, burn-in or digitizer issues etc. Basically do everything you will be using when you get the phone.

What is your next phone?

Very frustrated with the all-too-frequent need to go into Android Auto and reset everything just to get mapping to work, and not having the phone dialer integration working, and so on... Not to mention this monitoring program running in the background that nobody seems to know for sure what it is doing, what it is sending and to where it might be sending things....
So, after initially being happy with the phone, it has turned sour, and I'm looking to move to something lese, but not ready to pay a small fortune for it. What are you all considering for your next phone purchase? Probably not Huawei/Honor....
I loved the 6X, but my relationship with the 7X was sour out of the box. Maybe I was being too harsh but it really should have launched with oreo and came with USB type C. Aside from a hardware issue I had with my particular device, all the issues I had with the software have supposedly been fixed with the oreo beta. So I ordered it again and will have to definitely give it another shot because I did like the phone, it's hard to beat especially for $200. I know a lot of others will say the MI A1 is better, but not having a US based service center sucks. And I couldn't wait for Motorola to announce the G6 series. After my tenure with the 7X though, I plan to spend a little more and see what else Honor/Huawei has to offer. As long as they continue to sell the devices in the US on Amazon. With Best Buy dropping Huawei, who knows if they'll continue to make phones for the US market.
The Good..The Bad..The Ugly
Quite The Polarizing Device.. This 7x..
It looks so cool..
It was thought to be the "Next Big Thing" here at XDA.
But.. It never panned out that way.
It's compelled it's owners to throw caution to the wind.. root and brick there devices like there's no tomorrow..
with no clear cut way to recover it.
Quality Control is not the best.. either you get one that works perfectly (yeay! I did) or you get one with dimming
issues.. lagging issues.. touch registration issues.. heat issues etc.
But.. for a Stock device that had none of the issues mentioned, it's without question.. the best $199.00 your cellular
dollar can buy.
That is.. IF YOU DON'T MIND BEING MONITORED BY PARENT COMPANY HUAWEI.. (see pic)
Glad I Don't Bank On My Device.
The International Samsung Galaxy S10 will be my next device April of 2019
Until then my completely stock perfectly working Honor 7x will do just fine.
I'm brand new (just a few days) to the Mate SE. Love the phone... so far (will be checking for monitor app running soon). But would Huawei be that stupid? to be under suspicion by the authorities, and then have a snooping app obviously running and call it 'monitor'?
Possible I guess, but wow, hard to imagine. Was disappointed to read today that BB will no longer be carrying Huawei phones. I'm hoping to get the M5 tablet, maybe Amazon or last resort their usa website.
They sell phones all around the world, they are very popular. Is there ** any ** factual evidence of nefarious behavior?
Returned mine. Imonitor spyware ran continuously.
Also their support app requires access to your contacts and phone.
Don't think so Huawei.
First time experience with honor it's not so good as I'm expected. My next mob will be form one plus... ?

Weighing in with my opinion of this device after almost a month of use...
I absolutely have no problem with it, honestly.
Do I have a bit of a buyer remorse? Somehow, after I bought the phone the note 5 pro was announced, the chipset in it definitely make me jealous. It doesn't help also there is currently some crazy development with the device from the get go.
But honestly, with the horrible availability of xiaomi devices, why should I bother really? The 5 pro probably will never make it to Egypt or an Arab country (I bought the honor from Saudi Arabia), we only have redmi 5 plus and the 64 giga version had a flash sale for an hour and then disappeared without a trace, **** this kind of crap really I'd rather pay a little more and not play any kind of one plus old days crappy games, life is too short.
Back to the honor, I picked it over the redmi 5 plus for 2 reasons other than the availability too, the fact that it's a real metal unibody not half and half and I'd take emui over miui any time of the day (just look at the horrendous bastardization of the recents screen), emui with a theme and a new launcher is almost stock to me, I'm not honestly bothered by anything in the software (I actually like the aggressive battery settings) except for the clear of notifications after unlocking, which is kinda really stupid.
Having project treble almost guaranteed also was a buying reason, it was obvious that honor was committed to bring treble to all their updated devices, I didn't know what is going to happen with xiaomi (back then nobody has seen community treble porting yet), it doesn't help also that the 625 is getting older and older (support wise this means it will get easier to be left in the dust)
I had no issues with the touch, it just seems that Huawei has some kind of different scrolling behavior, the battery has been nice, not legendary, just Nice, the performance has been fantastic so far, honestly I never feel like I'm performing something faster than the device can catch up except in the horrific camera app, which is definitely a software issue that I hope will be fixed in oreo. (That app is a pain to use). Captured photos are nice, a bit on the colder side but manual mode works well for me.
The biggest issue people witness with the phone is the potatoish gpu, I'm not that bothered because the games I have thrown at it worked well (if the slower ones were playable), emulation worked really well especially as I completed prince of persia rival swords completely on the phone, I couldn't ask for more.
If anybody reading this, looking to buy a new phone and has no access to the note 5 pro honestly get the honor 7x, there is currently no better choice I can think of, everybody is praising the Nokia 7 plus as the new budget King and it's almost ****ing 350 euro, I think people's view on what budget means became skewed with how we have 1000 USD phones in the market, 350 USD to 500 USD are NOT budget phones for God sake.
What I would wish for my next phone? Better gpu just for the sake for more future proofing (I plan to stick with a phone for 4 years) and USB C, everything else currently technology wise is not a big deal and nothing in flagships currently is making me jealous, the honor looks fantastically modern (I was a Moto g fanboy but man these leaks of Moto g6 look incredibly ugly with the 18:9 ratio plus a chin, the **** Motorola?). Last thing would be an AMOLED screen, these beautiful true deep blacks must come to budget devices one day.
My 2 cents.

General Even MKBHD Says He’s Done With the Pixel 6 Pro

I've been a huge fan of the Pixel since the original XL. Dealing with this phone from day one has been a struggle. The voice dictation is terrible. The worst I've ever had on a pixel. Also the phone is my daily driver and sometimes I can't even work with this phone. Really holding out for an update to fix the phone so that I can love it, but I think I'm more patient than most. I feel like replying with a real world experience to every made by Google tweet, but I'm not out to jeopardize their business and I understand new tech takes a little while to achieve its full potential. But there needs to be some heads rolling at Google. There's been issues with every Google Pixel launch and this I think is the worst from my experience. I'm glad some others aren't experiencing what I'm going through. Lucky dogs

I'll say the same thing I said in another thread...
The Pixel 6 is a new platform on new hardware. There are going to be teething issues. Expecting perfection isn't realistic. Google has been using Snapdragon SoC's since the Nexus 4, and this is their first foray using their own hardware. When Apple introduced the A7 in the iPhone 5S, they had the same problem - a lot of stability and feature issues.
Remember that OEMs have to make compromises in order to get everything they want into a reasonable package. Bigger battery means less space for the electronics, and heat becomes a bigger problem. Bigger display and more powerful processor means more battery drain. With handheld devices, weight and size are significant issues as well.
If you want stability, there are other OEMs to choose from that are sticking to established hardware - such as Samsung, using both Qualcomm and their own Exynos systems. The Pixel series has been pretty solid up to this point, so while the 6 and 6 Pro have certainly had a lot of issues, the next generation will be improved, as will the next after that, and so on.
When you buy a Pixel, it's for vanilla Android with the Google experience. Don't expect much more than that.
why do people care what he thinks
i not had that many issues and I am on the December firmware.
battery life is main issue for me but as its a new SOC and needs time to tune it along with new A12 I expected this

man, i really wish my experience was like yours. i bought into Google's P6 hype for sure... i purchased the phone for dual-sim connectivity so i could use one device for my personal and biz numbers. i started with an AT&T version, returned it due to connectivity issues, and purchased an unlocked version that "seemed" to work a little better. however, inconsistent connectivity (no cellular signal, dropped calls, dropped wifi) forced me to put the phone away for now, and switch to a dual-sim S21 Ultra. i'm willing to give Google a chance to address the connectivity issues, but my confidence in their ability to do so is pretty low right now.

Who? Twitter? I never go there, same as FB, Instagram etc.
Purveyors of disinformation and censorship, at the best.
Really this is Google's doing and not singularly the P6 Pro itself; Android 12 is a huge part of the problem. Android 11 was no gem either.
Following Apple's lead like a lost puppy was one of their biggest mistakes. Google Android degrades their market edge by doing so and ultimately fails their customers.
A large part of Google's problem is that they are also control freaks. They want to push their cloud services at all costs even if it conflicts with the customer's best interests. They learned that from MS.

I don't even know who that is, nor do I really care. However, and this is a big but, if he has a following of thousands of users who buy phones for multiple family members and go on social media platforms then it becomes a problem. Not here because it seems no one is on social media round these parts, but this is the extreme minority. So call it where it belongs, the phone is buggy.. big time. I'm not talking about battery life either, I'm talking about not being able to make a phone call or receive a text. That is major. If I want stability I go with one of the big guns, Apple or Google. Pure iPhone experience and pure Android experience. There is nothing pure about this Pixel 6 series. OEMs compromising and releasing a device that is obviously flawed is not a great model for success. I don't want a Samsung or an iPhone. I want a Pixel. There is absolutely no reason I should put up with a test device when they touted this as the phone of the year. Next generation doesn't interest me right about now. I want a phone with security updates that are current and a device that always can receive a phone call and text. It is not the Pixel 6 no matter how many excuses you can come up with.
If this was a test device at least tell me that. If they are working out problems fitting stuff in then let me know. I easily could have kept my pristine P5 but I was led to believe this was a finished product and, I repeat, the phone of the year. the iPhone killer the every other phone killer. Well the P6 just got killed by their own hands and if you can't admit it then nothing I can say will change your mind.
I got a P6 Pro at launch and I haven't had any major issues or bugs. I'm on Dec update and I think I experienced the network drop thing only twice. I restarted my phone and everything was back to normal.
No other issues though..

My concern is that Google may not find a solution for the P6P reception problems and will have a Nexus 6P issue on its hands. Lawsuits caused many Nexus 6P to be replaced with Pixels so in theory it could happen again but 10 months is a long way from now.
Somebody other has problem with photo quality and strange artifacts? Here look in bright part ....pls dont be a stupid and dont say its becouse saturation or something photo is normal standard photo with no setup right from camera
I'm on Dec build in UK (not sure if that makes a difference but O2 network), I have had small teething issues but nothing like some of the major bugs that have been mentioned. Are we using different variants or something?

He's got 15.2 million subscribers on YouTube. But I agree with you. You would think Google put a little more resources behind it, especially with their big marketing push.
I have a typo and almost every single sentence when doing voice dictation. Maybe I have a stroke happening and my speech is the issue but I'm heavily dependent on it and have been relying on it for years without a problem.
It's just one of the many bugs I'm dealing with, but by no means the end of the world... I ran the A12 betas on my 4XL and it was a rather good experience. Basically all the new features I use specific to the 6pro are broken. I'm hoping that January will be our lucky month
The only issue I have is a bluetooth audio streaming. I need to reconnect it one or two times to make it work.
yeah my second Pixel 6 pro went back to google yesterday, I have had issues with both 6 pro`s I have had, so I`m back to my 9 pro for now. guess wait and see what happens with the S22 ultra or the 10 pro.

Question Am planning to buy this phone, but how bad is the software?

Hello, i made an account on XDA just to ask some questions here. First things first, i am still using the first model of Razer Phone and lately, after 3 years and a half the battery has gave up, and i'm planning to get a new phone. There, i am considering to get RM 6 Pro or maybe RM 6s Pro, but of course RM's bad reputation about it's software relatively easily made it to my eyes when browsing for real life user experiences on Reddit, or GSMArena, or here.
Now, since i have absolutely 0 experience or knowledge on "modding" phones (Im not even sure what ROM means, thats how much i know about these stuff), i have stayed with the stock ROM? UI? of the Razer phone up until this point. The reason i mentioned this is because, when hearing about the almost non-existent system updates of RM, i thought "Hey, that's not really much different from Razer? Maybe i can manage." but then again buying a new phone costs a lot of money and it will stay for a few years ahead, so i don't want to make reckless decisions. I don't game that heavily but i still game quite a lot on my phone and i mainly play games with demanding graphics hence why i plan to pick up RM 6 Pro / 6s Pro, i also plan to use it for daily uses too (Messaging, taking photos, listen to music and watch videos, etc).
Sorry for the long intro, now onto the questions.
1. How bad is actually the software? Like is it just some minor inconvenience inducing bugs, or is it on a phone-breaking level?
(Please mention whether have you modded the phone with custom ROMs and stuff or not upon experiencing the said problem, because the occuring problems i see here is quite different from one to another, and forgive me for assuming but i do think it might be related to modding the phone so i want to know is it an occuring problem on stock or not.)
2. Let's say the problems are only minor inconveniences, are they easily fixable? Or do i need to learn about modding the phone to rid of it?
3. I see a lot of different version of the ROMs for RM (Chinese, Global, EU, NA), which is the most stable? (If such thing even exist) or which one should i use?
That's about all i want to know. Feel free to add anything you think worth knowing if i'm about to get the phone! And thank you for time reading all this, i hope you guys can help answering these. Thanks in advance.
RM6 software is just bad with lots of bugs.
It is not possible to change the default call appplication.
Different languages appears in the menu, translation is not complete
The default call application is also really poor, it is for example not possible to add a contact into a connected account other than google. It is also needed to reboot the phone frequently because calls will not connect.
NFC is not working for payment.
But concerning hardware, the specs are really good, it is fluent in gaming, battery is not such bad compared to other models.
Another good point is fast charging even if it is too noisy.
To finish, this mobile has not interested developper and there is no alternative to nubia rom.

Thank you for the reply. I rarely call and even if i do, i do it via Whatsapp so i think there's no problem in that regard? I hope.
Regarding languages, i am used to reading broken translations to a degree, and from my searches on Japanese reviews on the phone, the japanese translations has made it to "easy to understand, although not perfect" level through an update so i can always just use Japanese for the system language, should the English one is translated too poorly.
There's barely any use for NFC in my country (Indonesia) at the moment, so the lack of NFC or it not working doesn't really bother me to be honest.
If you are gonna brave the bad software of red magic phones then might as well get the red magic 7. No point whatsoever getting a 6.

Thank you for the reply. True enough, might as well get the 7 but the thing is RM7 has not officially entered my country yet, and buying a phone that hasn't officially made it here will come with problems such as unregistered IMEI, and chances of mobile services not working. And time is not a luxury i can much afford anymore because i need a new phone ASAP, as going out with my currently dying Razer Phone mostly leaves me unable to contact anyone after a little bit of use.
Not to mention it takes half or even a whole year for the phone to make it officially here, even if Nubia decides to make it available here.
