I've been a huge fan of the Pixel since the original XL. Dealing with this phone from day one has been a struggle. The voice dictation is terrible. The worst I've ever had on a pixel. Also the phone is my daily driver and sometimes I can't even work with this phone. Really holding out for an update to fix the phone so that I can love it, but I think I'm more patient than most. I feel like replying with a real world experience to every made by Google tweet, but I'm not out to jeopardize their business and I understand new tech takes a little while to achieve its full potential. But there needs to be some heads rolling at Google. There's been issues with every Google Pixel launch and this I think is the worst from my experience. I'm glad some others aren't experiencing what I'm going through. Lucky dogs

Mine hasn't been buggy but it's good his statement made headlines. Maybe Google will get off their azz and fix these problems.

I'll say the same thing I said in another thread...
The Pixel 6 is a new platform on new hardware. There are going to be teething issues. Expecting perfection isn't realistic. Google has been using Snapdragon SoC's since the Nexus 4, and this is their first foray using their own hardware. When Apple introduced the A7 in the iPhone 5S, they had the same problem - a lot of stability and feature issues.
Remember that OEMs have to make compromises in order to get everything they want into a reasonable package. Bigger battery means less space for the electronics, and heat becomes a bigger problem. Bigger display and more powerful processor means more battery drain. With handheld devices, weight and size are significant issues as well.
If you want stability, there are other OEMs to choose from that are sticking to established hardware - such as Samsung, using both Qualcomm and their own Exynos systems. The Pixel series has been pretty solid up to this point, so while the 6 and 6 Pro have certainly had a lot of issues, the next generation will be improved, as will the next after that, and so on.
When you buy a Pixel, it's for vanilla Android with the Google experience. Don't expect much more than that.
why do people care what he thinks
i not had that many issues and I am on the December firmware.
battery life is main issue for me but as its a new SOC and needs time to tune it along with new A12 I expected this

man, i really wish my experience was like yours. i bought into Google's P6 hype for sure... i purchased the phone for dual-sim connectivity so i could use one device for my personal and biz numbers. i started with an AT&T version, returned it due to connectivity issues, and purchased an unlocked version that "seemed" to work a little better. however, inconsistent connectivity (no cellular signal, dropped calls, dropped wifi) forced me to put the phone away for now, and switch to a dual-sim S21 Ultra. i'm willing to give Google a chance to address the connectivity issues, but my confidence in their ability to do so is pretty low right now.

Who? Twitter? I never go there, same as FB, Instagram etc.
Purveyors of disinformation and censorship, at the best.
Really this is Google's doing and not singularly the P6 Pro itself; Android 12 is a huge part of the problem. Android 11 was no gem either.
Following Apple's lead like a lost puppy was one of their biggest mistakes. Google Android degrades their market edge by doing so and ultimately fails their customers.
A large part of Google's problem is that they are also control freaks. They want to push their cloud services at all costs even if it conflicts with the customer's best interests. They learned that from MS.

I don't even know who that is, nor do I really care. However, and this is a big but, if he has a following of thousands of users who buy phones for multiple family members and go on social media platforms then it becomes a problem. Not here because it seems no one is on social media round these parts, but this is the extreme minority. So call it where it belongs, the phone is buggy.. big time. I'm not talking about battery life either, I'm talking about not being able to make a phone call or receive a text. That is major. If I want stability I go with one of the big guns, Apple or Google. Pure iPhone experience and pure Android experience. There is nothing pure about this Pixel 6 series. OEMs compromising and releasing a device that is obviously flawed is not a great model for success. I don't want a Samsung or an iPhone. I want a Pixel. There is absolutely no reason I should put up with a test device when they touted this as the phone of the year. Next generation doesn't interest me right about now. I want a phone with security updates that are current and a device that always can receive a phone call and text. It is not the Pixel 6 no matter how many excuses you can come up with.
If this was a test device at least tell me that. If they are working out problems fitting stuff in then let me know. I easily could have kept my pristine P5 but I was led to believe this was a finished product and, I repeat, the phone of the year. the iPhone killer the every other phone killer. Well the P6 just got killed by their own hands and if you can't admit it then nothing I can say will change your mind.
I got a P6 Pro at launch and I haven't had any major issues or bugs. I'm on Dec update and I think I experienced the network drop thing only twice. I restarted my phone and everything was back to normal.
No other issues though..

My concern is that Google may not find a solution for the P6P reception problems and will have a Nexus 6P issue on its hands. Lawsuits caused many Nexus 6P to be replaced with Pixels so in theory it could happen again but 10 months is a long way from now.
Somebody other has problem with photo quality and strange artifacts? Here look in bright part ....pls dont be a stupid and dont say its becouse saturation or something photo is normal standard photo with no setup right from camera
I'm on Dec build in UK (not sure if that makes a difference but O2 network), I have had small teething issues but nothing like some of the major bugs that have been mentioned. Are we using different variants or something?

He's got 15.2 million subscribers on YouTube. But I agree with you. You would think Google put a little more resources behind it, especially with their big marketing push.
I have a typo and almost every single sentence when doing voice dictation. Maybe I have a stroke happening and my speech is the issue but I'm heavily dependent on it and have been relying on it for years without a problem.
It's just one of the many bugs I'm dealing with, but by no means the end of the world... I ran the A12 betas on my 4XL and it was a rather good experience. Basically all the new features I use specific to the 6pro are broken. I'm hoping that January will be our lucky month
The only issue I have is a bluetooth audio streaming. I need to reconnect it one or two times to make it work.
yeah my second Pixel 6 pro went back to google yesterday, I have had issues with both 6 pro`s I have had, so I`m back to my 9 pro for now. guess wait and see what happens with the S22 ultra or the 10 pro.

After being the first person in Florida at a TMO location to report issues with my phone (not explosions) but lag, heat, etc... It's now finally being brought to fruition how bad this phone is. After being flamed by fanboys and people who just couldn't get past a brand name, you're now finally seeing even people like the central slam the phone. I will add, that they also were upset by my posts, videos of the phone(s) all 4 of them, failing.
So, with the Note 7 pretty much done, no matter what they do - what out there does what the Note 7 does? There really isn't anything out there that I can see (That if the note 7 worked as promised) would do what the Note 7 was supposed to do in a fluid nature. And while I want to go back to the iPhone, since they just work, I am trying to give Android's a fair shake. I just can't find anything out there screen size wise, security wise, speed wise, screen quality wise, resolution wise*, that really is 100% (not 99%) to the note 7.
Any idea's on a replacement? Whether I have to buy it overseas or not. I really am trying to give android OS and the companies who use it a fair shake.. Just not impressed from what I have seen out there as of now.

Samsung wants the phone back directly, not through the vendor. They have told me they would replace it as of last Wed. However, they told me in an email today that they will not send me a replacement phone. They said both versions are on hold and to return the phone to THEM but request a refund through TMO. This is really garbage in my opinion.
TMO will probably refund, that isn't the issue. The issue now is finding a suitable phone. One that, as I said " is 100% to the note 7 in specs".. I know performance wise, there is nothing that will touch the apple. I will take a "little bit of a hit" if I can find something with a 2k screen and has all of the other specs. Resolution on a screen is key for me and also to be able to do some other things like penetration testing and what not. Which is why I am avoiding the Apple platform for the first time since the inception.

Can't do penetration testing with it. I have my 6plus and it's amazing how much faster and more fluid it is over the N7 grenade. Unfortunately I do need to test in the field and the iPhone 7 plus can't do it. And now with the jailbreak all but gone, it really doesn't leave much to be desired. IF the iPhone had a 2k screen, it would probably happen, but as of now, looking to see whats available overseas.. =/

I do like the S-Pen.. but really don't want to go backwards in technology. Then again, the N5 just works lol.. bah!
S7e is the note7 minus stylus and eye scanner. The charging port technology ...while USBC is nice, doesn't affect anything charging rate or transfer wise as far as I can tell. Been using the s7e for a few weeks as a replacement .... no issues. Even looks / feels the same.
The screen is a hair smaller but I can't tell the difference in hand and my s7e fit almost perfectly into the case I had for my note 7.

Lag/Heat has nothing to do with the fires. I'm tired of repeating myself so go view my post history.
The first day I got the phone, it was so smooth that I couldn't believe it. Now after one month's usage it feels less smooth. I notice stutter here and there, while scrolling through WhatsApp list, while entering and exiting apps etc. Is this because the performance is degrading or am I just getting used with it and my mind demands more?
In any case, will a custom ROM like PureNexus be any better in terms of this? I'm on ElX kernel.

Nah, it will be the same. Allot of it is just the app not being smooth, not the OS. Over time the cache builds and things just stutter some. The device is still a beast

Hard to say for sure, but for the most part I feel like its just as smooth as day one. In fact, I was thinking recently how impressed I was that I hadn't reboot my phone for 3 weeks and its been rock solid stable and buttery smooth the whole time. I'm on full stock, rooted with TWRP.

Not to get too OT but I gotta step in and say something. What are you doing here on XDA? Every time I go into a thread I'm bound to see a post from you just ****ting all over this phone. Your comments are unconstructive and extremely off-putting. Some posters here have had their phone for a month or so, maybe less. Back on topic, the phone is still smooth as hell for me. It'll trip on a few things here and there but it's really so minor and occurs so rarely that when I catch it I question if it actually even happened. If that makes sense.. I think when we start to see optimized ROMs and Kernel devs begin merging in cherry-picked updates to Sched and upstream updates, things will get near flawless with this phone. The one thing that concerns me is the lack of F2FS. The storage speed on this phone is pretty lacking, as discussed in my thread discussing why the OP3T with similar hardware is so much faster than this phone. F2FS is much easier on the phone's storage whereas EXT4 will eventually lead to performance degradation over time. Again, I feel that Kernels will rectify this in the future.
Another facet of this might just be that you're used to the speed by now. I'm sometimes still amazed by how much faster this phone is at certain tasks than my Nexus 5X, but when I first got this phone I was in awe nearly all the time when using it. Now it just seems normal to me.
I am coming from using an S7 (which has the same ram and processor as the Note 7) and this Pixel is MUCH faster than my S7 was.
I myself had the Note 7 and this phone puts the Note 7 to shame in a speed comparison. My note 7 lagged like no other. Maybe mine was a defective one but my Pixel XL is blazing fast even after about 2 months of usage. ?

Yes, I mentioned that in OP for that reason only. I am sure that my mind is getting used with the smoothness and it demands more, much more
Just got to give the devs time. Perfection takes time.
I personally moved away from Samsung a while back. Last sammy device i had was the Note 4.
I still have an S3 mini which in all reality is a "piece of garbage"but all i use it for is a glorified MP3 player while im out doing work and i dont wish to possibly destroy my PixelXL or whatever im using.
But back on track. Samsungs devices least back in the day were very well built! And aside from Touchwiz not to terrible!
But this Pixel XL blows me away. I came to this device from a Nexus 6 which I absolutely loved! The Pixel XL has surprised me since day 1! Im currently running Pure Nexus on it. Its the initial build as the second build wasnt important enough for me to update. Dont mind that i cant shut down. (LOL)
I reboot my device a couple times a week as a pure habit. I feel a fresh start every so often is never a bad thing.
One thing to possibly try if an app becomes sluggish is clear the apps cache while you see it being a bit of a jerk.
If that doesnt help. Clear the system cache in recovery and see if that helps. Your first boot might take a bit longer but you could see a difference.
My suggestion to you is. Try out Pure Nexus. Or any custom rom for that matter! There are several now. We have 2 boot slots to use on this device which is fantastic! If you dont like a certain rom? Try another! Or.... go back to your stock slot! Just read up and educate yourself on how the boot slots work and what happens during flashing. Its not like our old school Safe Strap from back in the day! (Or multiROM for that matter) Well kinda.... but works differently.
Enjoy Pixelers!

I'm venting here because I'm searching for a way to fix my brand new beautiful Mustang - you see, one tire is constantly losing pressure and the trunk just straight up doesn't close.
In other words, I'm extremely frustrated with my brand new $930 device. And the fact that Google just released a 50MB security update and still didn't fix a crippling BT bug introduced in 7.1.1 doesn't help the issue.

If I remember correctly from Mario's front page article on the OP3T, F2FS can be enabled through TWRP. I recall tidy one reason it's not enabled by default on most devices is some remaining bugs/issues to sort out.

Took me a while to find it but Jerry Hildenbrand had some interesting thoughts on bluetooth issues with Nougat and how they're potentially related to bluetooth stack and certain hardware that people are trying to pair their Android N phones to. Look for his posts in this thread:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-pixel-xl/755478-there-speaker-issue.html
I don't know whether he's on the mark here or not. . All I do know is that I have no issues with connectivity with my car, Fossil Q Marshal or JBL Charge 2+ . . all relatively new devices . . so i do wonder how some are experiencing issues while others like myself are not.
-----
Back on topic - IMO loss in smoothness always boils down to resources as users settle into devices and continue to add software and tweaks to their devices. The more we use the device and add to it, the more apps start to battle for resources either in terms of running services or cached ones. The variation in now we each use our devices leads to variation in experiences as the OS deals with balancing available resources against the services and apps that need to be running vs cached.

Jerry Hildenbrand? That weird beard mofo? How can he possibly fix a bt bug that was introduced in a recent Google update?
First just don't feed the trolls.
I would definitely recommend a custom rom.
The one that said customs are the same than stock just flashed the wrong roms.
Pure is much smoother and snappier than stock.
And there are roms that feels like night and day if it comes to smoothness.
So just try them out and you will see and feel the difference.

Is the pixel better in terms of not fighting the manufacturer to root the phone and rom it? Does it allow the built in call recording (like editing the xml file on a rooted galaxy?)
It's a Google phone, there is no fight rooting or roming or moding it. It's wide open. Hit the unlock slider, fastboot flash unlock. Done.
Verizon version is a bit different. So far no problem as long as you unlock it before it updates. That may change, but so far so good.
That's what I was hoping to hear.

It is the carrier that locks phones. Like Verizon. Both Samsung and Google leave their phones open by default.
Of course, you may lose some functionality on rooting. Like security features and pay systems.
Yea I don't care about pay systems, or the built in security. None of the card readers at the stores around here even do NFC devices. I always have my cards on me too. My biggest concern is being able to record phone calls automatically. I seriously hate how Verizon locks them down. Right now I have an S6 G920V on version QA3 I'm trying to figure out how to root and have no idea how to at this moment.

Samsung Pay works with old magnetic card readers where you swipe your card, because they bought the company which developed a special magnetic sensing/beaming chip called MST.
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00043865/
So it basically works everywhere except where you need to insert the card inside the machine like gas stations or ATMs. And it gives you points to redeem goodies from Samsung, like gift cards or their hardware.
I was really enjoying Samsung Pay when I had S6 Edge and Note 7. I didn't have to carry a wallet - just a case with a driver's license and a hundred dollar bill. I really miss it.
Now, Verizon is awful in Midwest, where I live. It's the most overpriced carrier with zero benefits to back up their high prices. I switched from Note 7 on US Cellular prepaid, where I was paying $37 per month, to Pixel XL on Project FI, where I'm now paying $25 per month. Aside from a few simple quirks, I think FI is perfect for a low data user such as myself. Stay away from Verizon.
As far as rooting Verizon devices... I think you may be SOL. It varies depending on the device/software version, but usually they are locked pretty tight.
The Pixel is a much better choice simply based on the development efforts and the quicker updates from Google, which helps developers get their custom firmwares out much faster with the newest features.

7.1.1 Broke Bluetooth functionality. It seems like every single update in the beginning of an update cycle only introduces more bugs. It is a common theme and trend in modern technology. Another trend in technology, most bugs get fixed after about a year. But this phone become obsolete after 6 months.
We, the consumers, cannot win - technology companies release buggy products because they can, and they love quick and flashy profits, Quality Assurance seems to be taking a back seat to corporate profits. Because we, the consumers, seem to buy anything to please us in these times.

Bluetooth is working fine on my phone. In fact, I'm not experiencing any problems on my phone. I am on the latest build of DU 11.1 based on NOF26V.
And I'm not sure how you are coming to the conclusion that this model will be obsolete in 6 months. It has OS updates guaranteed all the way through Android P...
Regardless of all that, I still think it is vastly better to develop for a phone that is getting constant updates from the manufacturer (Google) rather than one that is typically behind (Samsung).

Infinitely better. I loved my S7 while I had it, but the root method was so terrible and caused lag, heat, and poor battery life regardless of any "fix" for it. It's a shame because I loved the phone and would NOT have switched if it weren't for those issues listed. Needless to say, I NEED root on my phone and I wasn't willing to give up any of those things to get it. The root method for this phone is far better and gives me the freedom I want with MY phone. The constant on time updates, and general smoothness of the phone help as well
With that being said, I would not be against giving Samsung another try. I love their phones, but I don't care for their locked bootloaders. If the S8 comes with a developer edition or root is easily achieved I'd have no issues going back. I'd also have no issue staying with future Pixel phones. :good:

Just so you guys understand why the root method for the S7 caused those issues...
In order to root the S7, you needed to flash a developer kernel. This is allowed even with the locked bootloader of the S7 since it is signed and accepted by the bootloader.
As we all know, a kernel can cause a lot of issues with the phone, and that is exactly what happened with the S7. That kernel was not tweaked properly and especially not for real-world usage. But it did allow us to root the phone, so it was a sacrifice (in my opinion).

I understood that just fine. It was all the issues caused by root that made me jump ship to the Pixel. As for the other guy (who obviously didn't understand the problems that root caused) I can't say for sure what his issue was. Just trying to help the OP with his decision through my experience with both devices.
I agree with what most people here are saying, I used to have a Galaxy S7 Edge, I loved everything about it, except for the locked bootloader. As previously mentioned it could be rooted, but there just weren't many roms out there and there was also a slight lag and poor battery life that occured after flashing the engineer boot. I just missed being able to customize it as much as I could all my old HTC devices. I switched the the Pixel XL 3 weeks ago rooted it day 1 and haven't missed the S7 Edge once

I came from an S7 Edge as well. It was an excellent phone if you didn't require root access. But I like to customize. I had it for 7 months the went to the Pixel XL.
After Samsung announced yesterday that the entire S21 (last year!) and S22 lineup will receive 4 (!) major OS updates, this article popped up on 9to5.
(just for recapitulation and to bring you up to speed in case you are not aware: The "new" Pixel 6 will only receive 3 major OS updates)
What do you guys think?
Personally, I have the same expectation. All these years we had these "Qualcomm only gives 3 years support" - excuses, why Google wasn't - supposedly - able to offer more than 3 years of OS updates with the Pixel phones. That is, as we now know - since Samsung does support a Qualcomm chip for more than 3 years - just a petty excuse.
And now? Now that Google has its own chipset?
Still not more. Now the reason is clear: Greed. Google doesn't want to spend more money than absolutely necessary. That is a shame. The Pixel community deserves better.
If Google wants to take this adventure serious, 5 years of OS updates should be the minimum.
Comment: Google has no excuses left for limiting the Pixel 6 to just three Android updates
The moment Samsung officially expanded its update policy to deliver four major Android updates, Google's Pixel 6 policy stopped being enough.

Yes, they promised 5 years of security patches, but we are talking about OS upgrades only. Thus getting Android 13, 14 and 15 is guaranteed, but we would like a version or two more.

It's also beneficial for YOU when you want to sell your phone, since it will still be a top up to date device, that's also a reason why used IPhones have high prices - even old models still get OS updates.
There is no reason whatsoever NOT to want long OS updates as a user, since that is beneficial in every way.

Which means that the person that will get your phone for free will still have a top up to date device for years to come. The phones value will still remain high and ensures that the person that you will hand your phone down to will have more fun AND will be able to fetch a higher price later on, since that "downhanded" phone will at some point probably be sold by that next person. Having a phone with 5 years (or more) of OS updates is beneficial in every way, to every person along the line that should ever use a phone.
How can you not see the glory of several years of OS updates? It doesn't cost you anything, but it makes a product so much better. Security updates alone mean very little. Running years behind new features and capabilities is detrimental to a user experience. Especially since major OS updates offer massive updates in Kernels and drivers and often offer completely new tech (just think about codecs like LDAC which were introduced with an OS update), something that security updates do not deliver.
I'm sure Big G will cave to the pressure on the 7 and offer 5 years of OS updates. Or they could change their mind and offer it on the 6's. But just because Samsung is offering OS updates for 5 years, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea. How will the user experience be after 2-3 years? I have my old Nexus 6 laying around and Nexus 6p and I can tell you it's not really the greatest experience on their latest versions. Apps take quite some time to load, there's plenty of jank, and it's no longer a fluid experience. Granted, hardware has gotten a lot stronger, but eventually the newer OS versions will bog down the dated hardware and the user experience will decline. I would think those users would rather go for a budget line and upgrade every 2 years for a reasoanble experience and expense. Budget phones have gotten a lot better and it's insane what some of them offer you for $300-$400+~.

It depends on the hardware power. My Pixel 2 XL with a Snapdragon 835 (4 1/2 years old) is still running smooth and without problem. Nowadays processors have become very strong. And in the rare case that a device should slow down a bit, in 90% of the cases that can be solved with a factory reset.
Just think about that example - my Pixel 2 XL is still running strong. The only things that made me update? Battery and OS updates.
Of course, Google wants that. That is why they don't want more OS updates. Having an EoL phone means users will probably update. What Google doesn't see is that this destroys the used market, just look at IPhones. Their value remains ridiculously high after several years, since people don't need to care about the hardware - they will all have the same, modern software experience. And Pixels?
Oh dear. A Pixel 3 can maybe fetch 80 bucks. A Pixel 2? Less. They have basically lost their entire worth.

I doubt it a bit.
Google has gotten stingy in the most recent years.
They took away Google Photos unlimited storage.
They took away Pixels unlimited upload.
They now force people to swallow several ads before EVERY Youtube video, an obvious attempt to push Youtube Premium subscriptions (Vanced for life).
They took away several GCam features and locked it behind Google One.
Google One itself is a good example, since Google is pushing their "pay us if you want something" hard.
Once, Google offered most its services for free and kept itself floating through ads revenue.
Now? They want BOTH monthly subscriptions AND ads revenue. They went greedy. Maybe they will cave in under the pressure... but that would require GREAT pressure. That would require that even the self-centered ones that do not see the immediate benefit to themselves ("I only use my phone for 2 years, why should I care") begin to voice such a claim.

That's good to know that the older hardware is now holding it's own compared to the devices that I listed. I haven't kept any of my older pixels as I passed them on or traded them in. I'm all for devices having a longer shelf life to keep them out of landfills and reduce electronic waste. That definitely is one of the factors why iPhones retain more value. But the Pixels will need more than the 5 year OS update guarantee to retain value like iPhones do.

I appreciate iphone but I don't think longevity of updates is why they keep their value, at least not a big part of it. I think the building of the brand into something synonymous with luxury is what got it it's staying power when it comes to retaining cost.
Better customer support is also a huge factor.
But android as an ecosystem needs more than multiple years of updates to get to that point.
If anything the hugest element is the fact that there isn't a physical building I can go to with people trained to know my device in and out. Apple has that, the apple store itself is an experience. While we scrounge on message boards and get first lvl call center techs telling me to reboot my phone while they diddle on their iphone.
There is a store out there my grandma can just walk into and hand her phone off to someone that actually knows about that device.
I don't get why people still demand something more. You knew what you were buying before you bought it. Why to demand something more now?
I mean why

I mean why not. You want customers, you provide incentives for people to choose your product over another. It's not like it's hurting anyone to expect a company to stay competitive.
I see nothing wrong with consumers leveraging purchase power. And it's not like retroactively increasing the support lifetime is unheard of.
Who gives a squat about OS updates when they can't even get 12 right?
You almost need a minor in Entomology to keep track of the bugs. Their engineers might learn something if they followed critical path analysis of the possible effects undetected software errors may have and accept those with little impact and not let errors pass that could brick a phone. Similar to the best practices aviation engineers follow to certify aircraft software per DO-178C.
Offering as long term software support as possible is of course a good thing but think about the battery. As currently there are no phones from top class with easily changeable battery do you think that after 3 years or more this phone will be usable if you charge it every day (which most users do)? My previous experience shows that i never kept phone for more than 3 years and on average i buy new one after just 2 years.
There is also one more thing to consider and it is when you will receive the promised updates. Google always releases the new android early (around october) and for all devices simultaneously. Other manufacturers usually update their current flagship relatively fast before the end of year but the other models can get it even as late as spring or summer of next year.
Of course if google could provide 5 years of major android upgrades this would be great but the current policy of 3 major upgrades plus 2 more years of security updates is something with which i was aware when i bought the phone and is good enough for me personally.

I'm only replying to the very first portion of your post, since that is all that really concerns me.
I'm sure the person getting the phone (who will be 7 years old at that point) won't mind. She will just use it to play games and watch YouTube. By the time she is done with it (it will be a 4-5 year old phone) the battery will be trash, and time for a new phone.
Just like I accepted that I see how it could be beneficial to some to have updates/OS upgrades for longer, you should accept that others don't require that, nor should they have to just because you believe it's "necessary".
If later I want updates for a longer period of time, maybe I will switch to Samsung...ah, no I won't And if the value of the phone is less when I go to sell it, or trade it in, then so be it.
I never got people arguing against folks requesting more support or more options.
Especially when the main point of contention is "well I don't need it". A mass produced consumer product fortunely needs to address the needs of a wide range of users. Not just one person that doesn't care because the added support won't benefit them.
It's not hard to not personally need something yet appreciate why someone else might benefit. I've literally never used phone insurance. Doesn't mean I don't understand why someone might want or need it.
As I've made known my opinion in the past, anytime there's a discussion about what Google doesn't do with their Pixels that they conceivably could, I always suspect Samsung strong-arming Google behind the scenes. "You want to use our chips? You want us to make your CPU? You want to buy the screen from us? Here's the list of things we require (besides money), and here is the list of components we're willing to sell you."
Complete speculation on my part, but I don't think it's an unreasonable suspicion. It would certainly answer a lot of questions of "why".
So coming from a Pixel 3xl and then the Pixel xl and then before that the Nexus 6 and then before that every moto phone all the way down to the og droid. Where does Google get off sending out a phone to the public that doesn't work. I've had this piece of junk now for 2 weeks and it is garbage. 1st thing right out of the gates the fingerprint scanner doesn't work but may maybe 1 in 5 trys. Why would they move it to the front. Who decided that was better. Cause it isn't. The fingerprint scanner sensors whatever they are on my previous two pixels worked fine once in awhile they didn't work they just worked this one just doesn't work. It's the most basic form of the phone it's the first thing you do when you turn the phone on. It's the first thing you do when you pick up the phone and to open it with your finger you would think that they would at the very least have that part right. Then 5G I don't know about where you are I live in Southern California, Ventura county which is just North of Los Angeles county. In every instance that I've used 5G to have 5G on my phone and I'm trying to do something on internet it is slower than 3G it's like we've taken two steps back. I have to wonder if it's like this for everybody I mean all the phones all the manufacturers I got a feeling this 5G wasn't ready yet and they just pushed it out anyway cuz they had to have the next good best thing but then work though it doesn't work. Why would Google push out a phone that just didn't work I thought the whole point of the pixel experience was that everything just worked. It didn't have to have the best specs they didn't have to have the greatest screen or the most memory. But they worked well without all those specs and screens. They worked and worked well cause they were well put together on proven hardware. Then Google brought in their software unmolested. Completely vanilla and the phone's working they worked better than the other phones that had all those high specs and lots of memories high refresh rate screens. The original Pixel XL and the Pixel 3XL they worked ? I'm starting to think that that was in spite of Google. Whoever ran their phone department put one past the bosses there and sent out some phones that just actually worked. My brand new Pro pixel 6 it doesn't work and I'm writing this on my pixel 3 xl you know why ? Cuz I'm done with it. After 2 weeks I put it in the drawer I'm done with it and it will stay there until there is some kind of major update they going to fix everything. I want nothing to do with that piece of junk. But here's the deal there's nothing else out there unless you want Samsung and I dont. I've had a plastic Samsung before I was not impressed I sent that back after about 2 weeks as well. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place what happened to the good old days of Motorola and HTC when the phone companies were competing against each other to actually put out good product and we'd have root for these phones before even they came out. Before they even hit the streets. What happened to the good old days when they had cheesecake..I had the bionic I don't know if you guys remember the whole story with the bionic but we had we had cheesecake for it for over a year before before they finally released what 4.0 or something like that. But I think they skipped ice cream and went straight to jelly bean ( os's ) because Verizon couldn't pull their heads out of their butt in and approve the final version of the os...but Motorola was writing a new one every day and since we had cheesecake and we would take it every single night we would have a new rom just about every morning. We were overclocking our phones.. they were cracked flashing ROMs. These phones were fun I miss those days of samurai and living chaos all those guys there's a different form once you guys probably don't even know about I probably shouldn't say the name of here but it was we had them we had a thread it was probably the busiest thread on all the internet in regards to phones and it was pretty much run by a guy named samurai and he had designed some tool ( House of bionic ? ) to help you root your phone and put these new ROMs in it. Anyways the thread went sideways after a while to say the least but drama was fun and it was over these phones we all lived for these phones now it is these phones are Just junk they don't even work anymore and no one cares no one cares they justice deal with it to do a work around where to work around barely work too I'm not going to do a workaround anything either. The fingerprint scanner should just work and it doesn't.. It's so frustrating. Why did Google even send this phone out to the wild...is ridiculous they should have had the fingerprint scanner running first thing. That should have been the first priority but it's not and then they send it out to the wild with a broken feature like that ? Just seems to me like they're cutting their own throat by doing that back in the day Google would have cared today they don't care. Just get it out there start selling it make money lie to the people. . It's a crying shame what this whole community has turned into and not I'm not speaking about us I'm speaking about the equipment they're forcing us to use. We choices do we have anymore we really don't whatever happens to that phone Google is going to make where you can buy your bits and pieces and put together yourself whatever happened to that that was a good idea. It was probably too good of an idea.. but doing that that way they probably would not make amy money. The bits of pieces we provide will probably be too good in the last forever .I'm going to rant again. I'm going to stop sorry guys. Just just how I feel about things now. I've had my pixel 6 Pro since launch!! And yes I do agree with the finger print scanner. Had my share of disappoints with it but update after update it just get better... I'm on custom ROM my preference.. it's actually closer to stock with minimal tweaks added.. Also note I've had all the pixel including the nexus line and by far this is the best pixel I've used... And the 5 g problems none here I live in Canada Telus network.. everyone has their gripe!! Best thing just return it
TLDR
Bro... Samurai? You talking the Droidrzr forum that I WAS A PART OF? Dude...that was like 10 years ago...let it die...the thing is they were INNOVATIVE back then, they were creating new things that have never been tried before, and pumping out things that "could" work. We are now at the point where we just want a good screen, long lasting battery and a great camera. All of which the Pixel 6 Pro do NOT do
As the owner of the pixel 6 pro, from a LAUNCH DAY T-Mobile oneplus 6T, I am not going to lie. The 6T was faster after 3 years. I just couldn't stand the camera anymore. But my SERVICE on that phone was great. And the battery life I would squeeze 10+ hours SOT like I do basically every phone that I have anymore.
For overclocking, you realize we're pushing over 2GHZ right? Overclockimg back theb was taking an 800mhz chip and pushing it to 1Ghz. That was MONUMENTAL for such a small chip back then. But you need to google a few things before you rage over some abilities. The CPUS back then were 45+nm small!!. That's effing TINY compared to a human hair of 80,000nm! But we are at 5nm in THIS phone. That's 9 times smaller. There's only so much heat you can push through a chip, but we're also running wayyyy more complex screens, GPU's, GPS, bluetooth, everything. It's all done on one tiny chip. So there's going to be some give and take.
As for the fingerprint scanner, you gotta put the same finger in the phone at least twice and move it around, slight movements alllll around the finger and you will have a perfect scanner. Mine only fails if it is laying on the table and I try to unlock it without picking it up. But in hand? Every. Time. It works. Also? Wash your hands.
And for 5G? Fam...I get wicked stupid fast speed...the problem is if you are in an area that is congested...which it totally sounds like you are, your speeds are going to be horrific. Terrible radio aside, this is just the gamble you're in and you're losing. I recommend just switching it to 4G anyways since battery life increases by a literal hour or two just by that move andddd 4G travels further.
And did you mean "Cupcake"? Wth is cheesecake? I have been with android since Froyo, and don't remember cheesecake I could be wrong.
But my thing is reality vs. expectations piss even ME off at times, and usually it's like,"Okay...my bad...I figured for $1200 this phone would be great."
My biggest disappointment? The 50MP sensor. It's just 12mp. Just like everyyyyy other pixel. My 3a XL takes better pictures than the 6 pro. Fight me. It does. But I gave it to my mom. Are the 6 pro pictures bad? Not really. But it's not as capable as they touted it to be. And considering MY PHONE overheats anytime I try to use it really blows. But because my phone decided to crack itself in the heat one day google wants me to pay for the screen to fix their hardware BS which I refuse for the 4th time.
And Samsungs are not plastic anymore my dude...you need to get in your time machine...my girlfriend's S21 Ultra is wayyyyyy more premium feeling compared to my 6 Pro hand in hand. A better phone all around. It is faster, charges faster, takes better pictures, wayyy better video, last longer SOT, doesn't EVER get hot, charges STUPID. QUICK. He phone was at 20% and she has it capped st 85 for longevity but we started using the "fast charge" with my Easeus 100 watt cables and charger? Bro...her phone charges in 20 minutes. If that. We were BLOWN. AWAY. and it DOES NOT GET HOT. So I recommend trying then again and not letting past experiences from 7+ years ago fool you...
But yes, you're correct in some ways, they went backwards with "quality of feel" but you did get what you paid for...a phone that is overpowered with a slightly underpowered chip. But without proper thermal handover, an "overclock" would just throttle and ruin the experience more...
Sorry fam.
Oh yeah, the old Bionic days...that phone was a little tank! And then you get a forum like droidrzr where the devs and owners were all easily accessible and incredibly helpful and yeah we had a lot of fun there. The landscape has changed a lot since then (like Gytole said), and imho I think the rom scene took the worst hit when Google shut down G+. G+ was the one stop shop for roms and their devs, and when they shut G+ down everyone just kind of scattered like ants on a destroyed anthill although most of them came here. But yeah, although I am disappointed with my P6P I won't rage about how things have gotten worse because, hey, at least Google hasn't gone the Apple route and completely locked down their phones and ecosystem (yet lol) and they still do offer AOSP and we still have awesome devs around who are willing to use their time to give us our custom rom fix.
Thread cleaned!
Greetings to all. Just dropped in for a little cleanup. Please do not forget about XDA Rules regarding member conduct. Whether Google stinks or not is irrelevant, how you treat each other on the other hand, definitely is! So let's keep things polite and civil shall we.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My fingerprint scanner is about 98% accurate these days, it is very rare for it not to unlock my Pixel 6 Pro on the first attempt. that said i'd still prefer a capacitive on in the rear.

Funny you say that. It takes 1-5 times for the Fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone, but put it in you cargo pants pocket and it will open half your apps, turn Bluetooth off, DND on, and call 3 different people on your contacts list

5G is probably the carrier. You said VZW?? I had VZW, but the 5G was crap as well as the insane billing. I have T-Mobile and my 5G is fast but yeah, the radios in the P6 have been criticized from Day 1

Man, I can't read that poop. Ever heard of paragraphs?
Want your phone to work well? Ditch the factory OS builds and install graphene.
Set it to enable fingerprint security, but NOT fingerprint UNLOCK.
You should never use biometric unlock because it isn't knowledge based and therefore not protected by your right aginst self incrimination.
Holy wall of text Batman!
Fingerprint sensor was slow on mine, but the first update I got in April, corrected that.
I totally agreed with your answer. My Problem is Solved
Have a nice day to all

I'm just so very very disappointed in this phone to say the very least very disappointed..

Bro...

Cheesecake was a tool they used to go after the Motorola servers to pull down the latest ROM every night. Motorola was rewriting the ROM for Verizon every single day and they used cheesecake to pull those rewritten ROMs off of the Motorola servers that were used to send it out to the wild on thier test phones. Something like that. That's how we had it. If you were part of it you would have remembered that. It ended on Droid razr.com. It all
started on the droidforms.net and it went to Razrforums afterwards after we got kicked off Droid forums. I was talking about the overclocking only because it was something we were doing then I'm not saying we need to do it now. My whole point about bringing up those times was because it was so much fun. Everyday was something new and the drama and then The politics of it. We had daily reports from livingchaos who had like an insider inside Motorola of it was just it was all fun. I don't know how much a part of it you were, but I was right in the middle of it. I was one of reasons it all got switched from one form to the next. I had a fight with a guy named foxcat He was a moderator on Droid forms. He said something to me. Samurai thought he said it to him and it all blew up. The next day, the whole thing that moved to Droid razr forms. Anyhow, sorry if I perturbed anybody with my rant. My my ill written rant next time I just won't..
Welcome to the 36% (https://tradingplatforms.com/blog/2...s-with-36-planning-to-switch-to-other-brands/)
I made it 4 months between January and May before I got fed up and gave my phone away. I went back to my pixel 3 xl. Just like you and I'm currectly in the market for a non-pixel phone. They have completely ruined the brand for me.
My previous phone was the nexus 6 and I still have it. I turned it on a week ago and it is so buttery smooth compared to even my pixel 3 with whatever ROM I put on it. If it wasn't for the old battery and camera I would love to switch back. It has Android 11 on it thanks to the modding community. It might support later versions but I haven't tinkered with it much lately. I'm getting off track.
I say I'm going to leave the brand but it is tough. It's all the small things that you get from Google that I'm afraid I'm going to miss. The notification of what song is playing, call screening, and call hold are all features I use regularly.
I've ordered a new phone and I'm going to test the waters. See what it is like outside of the Google ecosystem. I'm afraid but what choice has Google given me. I either try an alternatives or get stuck with an aging phone.

Android 12 works well on the Nexus 6, but anything close to that recent is pretty slow on it. Battery is not hard to swap on it since unlike newer phones where you have to probably destroy the display to open up, you can just peel the back cover off of it.

Hey I had the Nexus 6 too and loved that phone. It's been downhill since. Goodluck on your venture. I hope you find a phone that suits your needs. If you do come back here and tell us about it. I'm nearly desperate at this point....goodluck !!!

When I had my Nexus 6, (Sitting in the drawer next to me), the last phone I could easily root and modify, a co-worker seeing it told me my phone was like a Muscle Car, and she was right. It was.
