Happy new year all.
Just thinking of flashing a new ROM and was contemplating what could be possible on current hardware.
The last time I ran a test from top to bottom I hit the ceiling at ps2 emulation but that was dodgy
Anyway, I personally haven't used any of the new emulators for a while so wondered what is currently possible? What have you used? What worked? Or was good?
I know in theory 90% of Wii games should work and everything underneath it, so GameCube, PSP, PSX, N64, Dreamcast, Saturn, 32x, jaguar, arcade, mega drive, SNES, Neogeo.
Any info, ideas, cool stuff,
IMO it all depends on the game.
I play NSMB Wii through dolphin and that works great. But as an example, I can't get Rogue Leader on GC to play on anything except a good GPU on a PC. The Hoth level brings everything to it's knee's and OP8P is no exception.
AetherSX2 is great for PS2 emulation and with a few tweaks seems to play everything very well. I tried shadow of the collosus and Black and both were very playable. Check youtube for how to tweak.
But yea, everything below that seems to work great. Dreamcast, PSP, PS1, Mame. I even managed to get Killer Instinct arcade working throuh retroarch and that worked very well.
You can also play packages for Doom 3 and OG Half Life as well as HL2 and Portal with hacky APK's.

What's NSMB?
Shadow of the colossus? If that's working then that's really really impressive, that absolutely pushed the ps2 to the limit, the use of fog to keep graphics in memory was genius for it's time and to manage to keep the frames up on ps2 hardware.
Cheers will have a look at that ps2 emulator, nice one.
PS:. I've got a guide on how to run PC games with native files
One of the things i've been using for gaming has been this app https://parsec.app/
Pop it on a PC you game on then log in, change some settings then leave that PC alone.
On a second device, android / mac / or other windows device, download the app from the link and install it.
Log in and you can then control the PC you installed it on in the first place, i have to say that the speed of input is really really good, i was massively impressed by the responsiveness and ability to play through games with minimal setup required.
Few things to change.
Set resolution to 1920x1080
Change network to latency / performance
Change network allowed to max / 50Mb
Renderer - DX11
That should work as expected.
I played some PS2 games on my Huawei P30 Pro already.
For the nature of emulation, not every game works. But everything below PS2 and below WII U is probably very enjoyable. Most emulators are open source and are ported to android anyway.
I would say God of War from PS2 is playable on the 8 Pro.

Is the Artemis any good with emulators for consolegames, arcadegames and such? I'm just thinking that the clockspeed of the Artemis isn't really up to par with what is needed for most emulators.
I'm going to download the ScummVM later today to relive those glorious days of lucasarts adventure games.
But I was also thinking of downloading something like Morphgear. But as I've gathered Morphgear is discontinued. Some of the modules became open source, while others remain commercial (i.e. you have to pay for them). I'd really like to know if GBA games can be played in a decent way on the Artemis. Games like fire emblem, final fantasy tactics and such...
Also, can anyone PM me a link to a site with the game files for scummvm-games. I have bought these games on my Amiga500 back in the day and I can't imagine why i would have to pay for these games all over again, just to play them on my PDA. They should just release these games for free use so we can all enjoy these gems.

generally the Artemis can run the games, the problem comes when you want to control them! the buttons dont make the greatest game pads...
Monkey Island rules haha! I've you're interested I can PM you Monkey Island 1 + 2. I'm to trying to complete the game without a WWalkthrough but it's just too hard hehe
That would be awesome. I'm betting i'll find it harder to complete it this time round to when I was 13-14 and used to playing this kind of point and click adventure games all the time. I'm gonna look and see if i can find: Sam & Max, Loom, Full Throttle, Indiana Jones, Maniac Mansion...(i'm guessing that Grim Fandango isn't playable on ScummVM).
Which coincidentally brings me to another loved series of mine back in the day...Police Quest (and also King's Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry...). Is there an emulator out there that allows you to play these games???
=> I found a program called PocketSarien, but the latest build i found was for pocket pc 2000!! anything else out there?
Does anyone know if this build of morphgear will run on the Artemis:
Morphgear Windows Mobile - Download Version 2.4.0.9
Pocket PC devices with the Intel XScale processor. This includes devices such as the Dell Axim X5 Advanced, Dell Axim X3, and HP iPAQ 2215.
The Artemis doesn't feature said processor, so I'm curious if it can run on it.
Hey, Which version of ScummVM works on the Artemis? i'm guessing its gonna be "Windows CE ARM package" from http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php#stable .
cheers
You're right. It's the ARM Package. I have it installed and running since yesterday.
There's a great topic about ScummVM and its games on their forum:
http://forum.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?p=24519&sid=69406681e9cf5636123d019c275c6c5d
Even though it explains everything in detail, I just can't seem to get Lure of the Temptress working (free download on ScummVM site). I wrote the files to a specified folder on my storage card (called ScummVMGames) and when I start up ScummVM and it asks me if it should automatically scan for games, it finds nothing, even when I manually redirect it to the folder where I stored the game.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...as well as sending me some games

ok cool thanks i'll see if i can get the game to work...
Downloaded Flight Of The Amazon Queen and this one works as a charm. Very nice to play this type of games again. That absurd sense of humour found in games like Monkey Island is also present in this one and I absolutely love it. Wonder if Discworld will be playable...
I know this is a really specific question, however I'm wondering if anyone has had luck getting Goldeneye working on a Fire TV? I've tried different emulators, and they all seem to stutter at the opening sequence. Admittedly I haven't played it yet as I don't have a controller. The sole reason I'd get a controller is to relive this game.
Anyways, if it works for you and you can help out with the emulator used and settings, please share! Or if you play it and the stutter is only at the opening sequence, please let me know. Thank you!
Doesnt work for me either
I used it this past weekend on Mupen 64 plus AE, but I was using dualshock 3 ps controller and since I dont have keyboard/mouse, it was really hard playing with ps3 controller. I couldn't change controller type in mupen due to missing kb/mouse.
it works with n64oid
i tested it here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/n64-games-wiimote-root-t3006978
Thanks guys! I really just wanted to make sure it worked before I invested in a controller.
This was like the first thing I did when I got my first fire tv and I got it working with mupen but it lags way too much to be enjoyable... sorry bro
The port of GlideN64 to Android is near...
My hope is that it outperforms the other plugins by some degree while having improved graphical rendering accuracy and quality.
Awesome! I'll give it a shot when it's ready!
It looks like it should be quite good since they are using the "Boost" library to build it.
I can only hope the same can be done for the other plugins in case of wanting to still use them for comparing performance at an elevated state.
Yes, It's perfectly playable using Mupen 64 AE as are some other N64 games. Zelda Ocarina of Time, Doom 64, Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64 and a lot more. I've been working my way through them and keeping the ones that work for me.
Try Banjo-Tooie on their latest Alpha from the site,it even runs on both architectures where it didn't run on x86 before.
It does not replace your other one,it installs alongside it.
Banjo-Tooie runs ENDLESSLY on FireTV since I tested it for an extremely long session collecting most stuff up to before the Weldar fight.
Such a shame it runs so slow because of the ancient and wimpy [email protected] qualcomm drivers.
There is also a cheat editor built-in on the Alpha so you can use the no frameskip cheat to smooth things out up to 60fps max but at the expense of more slowdown.
Be warned,as it can get stuck on some cutscenes if you set countperop to 1 for best smoothness while sacrificing mostly all of the performance.
If TechVendetta, rbox, and the others can pull off a custom FireTV rom release with Qualcomm [email protected] or [email protected] drivers baked in,we might get a serious performance increase and helpful bugfixes.
Anybody able to try Goldeneye on the AFTV2 to see if it is any better? I'd appreciate it!

There are vast improvements with the latest versions. Only had a quick go last night with Wind Waker, its almost running at full speed now. Here's a nice little video on a channel I follow.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iQ6myHHMnU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCJKOKAc0Rs
The fist half on the second link shows how to set it up.
Personally I set the internal resolution to 2x, enable fastmen, Enable Skip EFB access from CPU, and set EFB copy to RAM (cashed). Oh and force 16:9 aspect ratio. I leave everything else as default. That seems to work for most things and gives a good speedup. You'll get a much more details explanation of settings over on the dolphin on android forums obviously, but that should get you off to a decent start.
There has been huge improvement recently. I played through Fire Emblem Path of Radiance in its entirety on the SATV (overclock 0.5) and currently playing through FE: Radiant Dawn (overclock 0.2). For Wii games Super Mario Bros Wii and Muramasa the Demon Blade running full speed for me (and Radiant Dawn with overclock, as above). Game cube games running well include Timesplitters 2, Luigi's Mansion (although there has been aa graphical regression recently and his head is missing) and on 1x IR Mario Kart Double Dash is virtually perfect too (frame rate consistently above 55), as mentioned above Zelda WW approaching full-speed too. Performance in most games is CPU bound, so increasing to 2x IR or so doesn't hit performance in most games, so I was interested to see that Mario Kart did improve with lowering IR (someone reported that in comments in Free Emulators YouTube channel and I checked and it's the same for me also).

Arrr thats interesting, I wondered how people were running Double dash at full speed while I was stick at about 30fps. Over the weekend I played Wind Waker on the sheild, however there is a bug in the Tower of the Gods section where the lifts don't activate http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/1540/t1671502-tower-of-gods-glitch-dolphin I thought it was just me and it wasn't until I gave up and looked at a walk through that I realized it wasn't me I had to transfer back to the PC and play past that section before picking back up on the Sheild. There's something very satisfying about playing on the Sheild TV. I've had dolphin on my PC forever but hardly ever fire it up, probably because of the backlog of steam games lol. Whereas with the sheild in the bedroom its the first thing I head for. Probably because I believe the gamecude games are far better gameplay wise than native android games. I tell you what though I find those Zelda games pretty challenging puzzle wise, I can fly through most modern games but they really do have me scratching my head and I do occasionally have to reach for a walkthrough as much as I hate going so.

Yes is there a list of Sheild TV specific overclock settings somewhere? I saw a thread on the dolphin forums but it said the settings may vary by device. I haven't played around with OC settings myslef yet. Off topic it would be nice to get a custom Kernel for the TV so we could bump up the CPU clock a little

I've yet to play around with any OC settings mate that was #NZtechfreak. I just enable fastmen, Enable Skip EFB access from CPU, and set EFB copy to RAM (cashed).
I'll have a play around with the OC settings later tonight, but I believe setting to 1*IR should give you almost full speed without OC settings.

Update 1: 12 Nov 2016
Since I don't have the Note 7 anymore, all this thread is continued in Galaxy S7 Edge forum.
I will not post here anymore.

Thanks.
I am super happy with my Note 7 (version 2 replaced).
I have no problems at all with this device.
It is a super "gaming machine".
I really like the PSP emulator. I recomend it.
Do you use any other emulators?
Here are some of my gameplays on PSP + stock market games
Here is the the tutorial for how to configure / use the PSP emulator on Android & run games
Extreme gameplay? Note 7 can handle.
I made a test with multiple games: GTA, Assassin Creed, Valiant Hearts, Real Racing 3, ShadowGun.
Note 7 is amazing. Just watch my test.
The phone doesn't heat. Everything is smooth.
The first one (version 1 before the replacement) had some issues.
What do you use to play?
Any good games? Or new games?
Some recommended setting in ppsspp... I would reference the site I got it from... but forgot where...
Mode: Non-buffered rendering
Frameskipping: 1 or 3 "read online some run better with odd number and other might be better with even numbers"
Prevent FPS from exceeding ON
Alt. Speed: Unlim
Hardware transform ON
Vertex cache ON
Timer hack ON
Disable alpha test ON "i left this one off though as it wont render like rain in FFT right"
Disable stencil test ON
Always write depth ON
System:
Fast memory ON
Change CPU clock: 400 "I personally put this similar to psp mem clock like 333 or 444"
JIT ON
Anyways I did transform my note 7 when i had it into a massive emu machine... then my vita got updated to a better emulation mode... lol so now I'm using that again for emulation gaming. I still will leave the emu on the phone for backup gaming or let other play.
List of emu I made a decision on:
GBA.emu
Snes9x EX+
Nes.emu
Genesis
PPSSPP
Gensoid
Mupen64Plus FZ Edition
ePSXe
Gemboy!
I was also looking into controllers for it too but no longer need it cause of the Vita.
Power A Moga
Gamesir
SteelSeries
Ive been using retroarch which uses the libreto API to emulate basically anything you can think of, and downloads the cores required to play whatever ROMs you put on your SD card.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.retroarch&hl=en
I use it mainly for SNES and Megadrive (aka Genesis) emulation, but works well with PS1
Using either one Retro or the standalone one I mention will need Bios files for psx, nes, and gba. Just like other forums it not allow to tell you where to get it but google it ^_^.... Same go for roms...
For RetroArch you put those files in the system folder and the others is either the main folder or the "bios" folder.
One thing i dont like about retroarch on phone atm is the retroarch bar that you cant hide without hiding the controls. It might beable to be disable but idk yet
SCPH1001.Bin, gba_bios.bin, and disksys.rom = psx, gba, and nes

A good question
Been using the command line for just about everything.
I do quite a bit of work as I have 2 rooted boxes and one running the Google Play store (among other things).
What emulator seems to be best - time to move from the CL to a GUI.
Which is best?
Emulators for what? (Command line?) On what Box? You've been using a CLI for everything so far? Like what? You do quite a lot of work? Thats remarkable. Let me congratulate you on that.
If you want recommendations on emulators for old video game systems - ask again, I might provide you with a detailed answer - even though this thread so far seems like it wants to bait information by sounding like you are a techy person yourself (ey, buddy, buddy) although none of the statements above makes much sense.
If I am mistaken and you want recommendations for the best Terminal emulator out there, I don't know. But try "Terminal Emulator" first, because thats usually what everyone uses when it comes to terminal emulators..
---------- Post added at 09:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:35 AM ----------
Oh, what the - I have the time, so why not...
If other people read this thread, looking for video game emulator recommendations.
Retroarch for everything thats not CPU intensive to emulate. Because it is a one stop setup solution for many (most) systems. Also it has the only implementation of ScummVM thats actually usable with a controller. (If you use scummvm - swapping to the new GUI theme (you have to find it as a zip file on the web) is much easier on the eyes, just fyi)
I use version 1.3.0 - because newer versions produced slowdowns on PCSX Rearmed. Havent tested the most recent builds though.
If you are on a Fire TV Stick, use either Snes9xEX version 1.5.1. or 1.5.27 (I think I stuck to 1.5.1) for SNES games as using other emulators/builds might result in performance issues http://www.explusalpha.com/home/snes9x-ex/downloads
If you are on a Fire TV 2 (as supposed to a Fire TV Stick, havent tested the Fire TV 1):
For most PSX games use ePSXe, most recent version.
For PSP Games use PPSSPP, most recent version.
For DS Emulation use DraStic (hard to set up, because its a paid emu, and Play Store licensing doesn't work in this case - had to resort to illicit means to get it working)
For Dreamcast emulation, use reicast (most recent beta build ( http://builds.reicast.com/ ), but it also depends on the game).
For N64 emulation use Mupen64Plus FZ Edition - its by far the best one. Most recent build should be fine as well.
Dolphin is a non starter on the AFTV2.
As for PPSSPP and ePSXe, learn what the settings do - which setting enables hardware acceleration, which setting disables certain effects - it usually is the difference between a game being perfectly playable or dropping frames. Don't resort to Youtube tutorials. Read up on the settings instead.

You can use the n and b keys on your keyboard to navigate forwards and backwards in the single image view.
edit: Also - consider buying a Xiaomi Game Controller, because it is cheap and has a great digipad. To get the best results out of this controller, be rooted and change line 42 in the Vendor_2836_Product_0001.kl file in /system/usr/keylayout/ from
key 0x13f HOME ALT #Long Press
to
key 0x13f BUTTON_START #Long Press
Otherwise, you will end up in the Amazon launcher in a few emulators that don't prevent this from happening. (It prevents this isue: https://www.reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/5d9ptb/amazon_fire_tv_box_xbox_360_dongle_issues/ - but understand, that there are different kl files you have to edit for different controllers)
If you have issues with the controller going to sleep and then refusing to reconnect within an emulator - use a rubber band to pin the right stick to a tilt. Most games you emulate won't use the right stick, and this prevents the controller from turning off.
Not sure, if it helps in every case, but also google for
Bluetooth Auto Connect lag
and read up on how to potentially minimize the input lag from a Bluetooth controller using the Bluetooth Auto Connect app. Understand that in more recent versions the layout of the app has changed.
Also - just FYI, all the games you see in the images above are perfectly playable - for the beat em ups this means no framedrops whatsoever, on the other games - if there are framedrops, I havent noticed them.
The only exception is Tekken 3 running with upscaling on ePSXe. If you use Retroarch and PCSX Rearmed to emulate it (even with scanlines ) it runs frame perfect. (on Retroarch 1.3.0 that is - I just checked it out with 1.3.6 on a much beefier Android device, and it still drops frames - although the textures look better. If you wan't better playability, stick to 1.3.0) Tekken 6 also runs without dropping frames, even with some upscaling, although you have to disable graphical effects, or you will get noticable drops. All other PSP games I tested play perfectly fine with effects enabled. All Dreamcast games I tested also run without dropping frames.
