Hi, I never installed a custom OS into my Google Pixel XL, I have android 10 stock, without root, just the clean original OS.
Since september 2021, my sensors stopped working, and they work only for some seconds when you reboot the device, or they work perfectly if you start the device in safe mode, so I figured out that the issue was with one app and not with the OS.
After a lot of tests, hard resets, etc... I finally disscovered that the issue is with the official "Google" app. If I uninstall the updates of that app and use the default "Google" app without updates, the sensors starts working again, and if I install again the updates of that app, all the sensors stops.
Please guys, if you have this problem, can you check if you can solve the issue also uninstalling "Google" app updates?
Hi, I run the official lineage 17.1 custom rom and have been having sensors issues for around the same timeframe. I've just disabled the google app, and my sensors are working after a reboot. Enabling the google app breaks sensors.
I don't use the google app, so will try running with it disabled.
Thanks!
Thank you cyber180
Update on this: since today, it's working with the google app updated, I'm not sure if they have launched a minor silent update which has solved their issue. Not all updates requires a major update from google play. Or maybe it's a temporary thing and later will fail again.
I sent a commentary from inside the google app some days ago telling about the issue, I hope they have solved it, but if not, we always can delete the updates of the Google app until they solve it.
UPDATE: yesterday after a new update, again the google app broked sensors, after uninstalling updates sensors started working again.... omg google what are you doing.
Thanks for the tip, the same issue is present on my old Pixel XL on stock unrooted ROM too. I realised that my screen brightness stopped adjusting automatically some time back but didnt know that all sensors were affected since it's not my daily driver. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Google app updates helped restore the sensors. Hope that it stays that way, if not i'll just uninstall the updates again.
I can confirm that disabling the Google app solves the sensors error. Thank you very much for the tip! It would be interesting to try the Google Go app instead of the full Google app. I'll be attentive to any news.
problem persists, after a new update of the google app, the sensors are broken again, uninstalling updates, makes the sensors work again
Confirmed, this pixel sensor problem is related to Google app.
I just disabled the app, reboot and everything is good. I enabled the Google app back and everything still good.
Thanks for the tip .
Thank you very much, my phone sensor is now working properly. In addition, for me, disabling the Physical Activity permission of the Google app allows the sensor to work normally.
非常感谢,我的手机传感器现在正常工作了。另外,对于我来说,禁用Google应用的Physical Activity权限就可以让传感器正常工作了。

Hey, when the Youtube app update that enabled 1440p quality playback came out i had the same problem, when you select a resolution it doesnt apply it, its like the app is always in auto quality mode. I read that you should uninstall updates and then install the newest version and that solved the issue for some time but now i have the same issue again. Does anyone know how to solve this?
Same issue here. I hate that I can't use 1440p. I've tried to uninstall updates but that didn't work. Anyone out there who knows how to fix this???

The app itself updated today but the issue is still there.
Hey guys, I found a solution for my tablet at least. The problem for me was Viper4android, I had changed the driver from power saving to high quality, reverting to the power saving driver seems to have solved the issue for me.
try to clear the apps data in setting application youtube and see if it stick.
Clearing those didn´t help.
Last time's solution (Clear Data and cache, Uninstall Updates, turn off and then turn on and Install updates from Play Store) is not working this time, very frustrating.
My solution didn't seem to stick and now I have the same issue again.
Mine suddenly began working, at third attempt. I cleared cache and data, Uninstalled updates, force stop, then I went to the play store and download the new updates, when I tried the first video it didn't seem to have worked, but I exit YouTube and the next time I tried it worked.
Only thing I think I did different is that I didn't disable the app before download the updates.

I found that it didn't stick when I selected it but after a few seconds of the video playing it changed to the new setting.
Here's a quick fix: after you tap the 1440 display button drag the time bar back to the beginning of the video and it will begin playing in the higher resolution.

Sorry, best I could do.
I'm trying the newest YouTube version, 5.10.3.4 (not yet in the playstore) and the issue is still there.
Hello guys,
I'm writing here because I've been running some frustrating problems with the htc camera application on my M8.
I run stock firmware, stock rom. never did any kind of flashing-modding or whatsoever, although I am not completely sure since it is a second hand phone. When i got it, it came on kitkat. I then upgraded directly to marshmallow.
Here are my actual software information: Android 6.0 / Software number: 6.16.708.1 / Kernel Version: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT. Build number: 6.16.708.1 CL683910 release-keys.
I used the phone for one month without a problem. Then, for roughly two weeks my phone run minor random crashes with a very weird soft reset of certain application setting after the reboot. I.E: I had to log back again on all my app which required log in: spotify, wechat, even whastapp once, etc. Every time the home screen would show me the "how-to-use" tips as if it was the very first time I run the phone.
The camera became unusable: once opened, every button on screen was unusable. It didn't take photo, it didn't go to settings. nothing of nothing. It couldn't even show the bottom buttons for returning back to the home screen or managing the multi task. The whole interface seemed to be completely unresponsive.
Two days ago, I decided to factory reset through the recovery and reinstall everything.
Everything seemed fine.... but the camera.
It takes litteraly ages (7s more) to save photos. The interface is super laggy, I have to wait sensible seconds to go to settings or switch the camera mode. It is not as bad as it was before the reset, but it still unusable.
I have to mention that I have an sd card formatted as internal storage. However, since the problem persists, I formatted as portable and eventually I removed it completely. Despite this, the camera still does not work properly.
I tried to wipe the cache of the phone from the recovery. Nothing changed.
I also tried to run the phone in safe mode to see whether it was due to some application conflict. Problem still persists.
I am so frustrated, I really want my camera to work back again. I mean, I need it because I love taking picture with this phone ( I often go for photo shooting at night) and the htc camera application gives you a great Manual Mode which I cannot find in other 3d party applications.
Do you have any idea of what it might be?
Many thanks for having spent time reading this post.
I hope you can give some good feedback on this.
Cheers!
I have ran into the same problem. I even did a fresh install of viper rom. And still very slow.
This started happening less than a week ago.
Good afternoon,
The same problem occured to me last week.
This problem started after I restored apps from titanium backup.
I can point our how.
But.. After fresh wipe, all caches cleared. Camera seems to work fast again, no lag.
So check your phone space.. Free ram available.. And your use of titanium backup.
That helped me.
Let me know if this does something.
Regards,
WyCkson
I have the same problem it just started yesterday.
at the moment im using a another application to use the camera.
i want the stock camera working.
i have enough space and enough Ram.
why is it that the camera is so laggy.

OK a fresh install of viper and camera works fine, after updating from the play store the camera is slow. I don't think this is a titanium backup issue, I think it's a new update for something on the device that's interfering with the camera
Fresh install again, removed Titanium Backup. Downloaded selected system Google apps and all HTC apps except for sense home. Camera worked fine. Restarted for the lock screen update and now the camera lags. Trying to figure out which app is doing it.

After some 'auto updates', my camera started lagging huge ammount ~ 6 secs. plus other stuff. . .
Sounds like the same problem. Please post if you find out what's causing it.
same here
I just noticed crazy camera lag this morning (seemed to be working fine just yesterday). The Camera app was updated 6/23, so I assume its that. Can't find any other HTC apps that have recently updated; and no recent changes to the phone (Titanium restores or anything like that). Been on the same build of S.ROM for over a month, with no previous issues.
same here! ...
Hey guys I found your page during my research, since last night I cannot use my camera properly as you said huge lags occur and until that moment I cannot find a proper solution. But at least I found! The source of our problem is HTC SPEAK app. When I uninstall the app's updates camera became more stabyl and my phone's getting warm issues solved!
Good luck.
Found Solution(s)
For me, its HTC Speak app. If I uninstall updates for this App, Camera is back to normal.
But there is workaround even when recent update for this App is installed.
Turn On Camera App, go to Settings-Camera Options-Voice Capture. Turn it ON, download language pack when asked and than use Speak App for Camera or turn it off (as I did). Camera is working like it should either way

Thanks, this solved my problem with the camera lag.
The same thing effects the 'Motion Launch Gestures' in Settings (Display & gestures). For some reason, it also uses language pack, same as camera app.

Are you trying to uninstall the Speak updates, or the Camera app workaround in Post #12?
If you are trying to uninstall updates, you can find the app in phone settings under Settings>Apps>Speak. But for me, the option to uninstall updates is grayed out, and cannot be selected.
For the workaround: when you select "Voice Capture" in Camera app Settings, it will ask you to update the language pack. Select to update it. Then, once that is updated, the camera will work fine. You can leave "Voice Capture" on, or turn it off in Camera app settings; either way, the camera should work fine now.
The option to uninstall updates was also greyed out for me, but you can select the menu icon in the top right corner of the Speak app settings to make that option available. I did this and yes it did fix the laggy camera issue but did not fix the non-functioning gesture control. The workaround that 3alfa3 provided fixes both issues.
Thank you to everyone who has helped resolve this issue as HTC support were as much use as (insert your own witty line...)

I can confirm it worked for me too.
Enabled voice capture after couple of lags, and just hit the download button. Couple of seconds later baaam! Solved.
But Its really strange reason to lag. Curious about how you figured it out tough..
Many thanks.
Just uninstall HTC Speak ... i test this on 3 devices ...
Same problem here.

When will HTC wake up and fix this?
I have used android O developer preview and downgraded to android 7.1.2 nut now motion sensor is not working.
How to fix the problem
My Nexus 5x was on the DP2 for almost 2 weeks (very satisfied with it), but after updating some apps on Saturday evening i was in a bootloop. Remedied, after updating again my 50+ apps (including Google apps) again bootloop. So i opted out of beta, and am back on 7.12. All radio fine, but sensors not working. I did a factory reset and everything is working fine.
factory reset fixes
Hi this exact situation happened to me only a day earlier. So happy to find this forum post. The factory reset fixed the issue for me too.
Dang, I was hoping there to be another solution then FSR.
Check to see if your Voicemail apps have anything to do with it. I had this problem and fixed it by disabling my voicemail app from shutting the screen when motion sensor is applicable.
Hi, just bought my Pixel 3a XL 3 days ago, updated to Android 10 December, the camera was fine and working correctly for few days.
But starting from yesterday. The Camera app keep crashing every time I open it, not able to take a single picture. I do everthing I can even clear storage, factory reset but the same problem.
I uninstalled the update for the Camera app on Play Store and use the pre-installed one, than the camera work normally, but cannot switch to front-camera.
Is anyone else have the same issue?

First time I read about such an issue.
Maybe a hardware malfunction?
If you have an unlocked bootloader I would flash the latest stock factory image, and since you have had it for only a couple of days if that does not work I would get it exchanged.
I knew many people have the same issue like me if you read the comment on Playstore for the Google Camera app latest version. I don't know if it's hardware malfunction or not, but I can use the rear camera as usual when uninstall the latest update of Google Camera and use the factory version of December update.
I use camera px and I have never had a problem with it it's Google camera but with extra features enabled from the newer pixel phones give it a try it isnot on Google play store it is her on xda
Anyone else still having issues with the camera freezing and rebooting your phone? I'm on February update and camera app 8.4.400.42337059.19
As far as I've seen, the camera app crashing hasn't been a huge issue on the 6 series (of course there are reports as usual).
What have you tried to fix it so far? are all your apps and play services fully updated (2 different updates)

Everything is up to date. I haven't tried much. Open camera app seems to work fine. I'm waiting to see if it gets fixed by an update. I see others having the same issue here https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/136991301?hl=en#

yeah that's average for a new phone. okay so let's see if we can resolve your issue.
go to play store, search camera and hit uninstall (it'll uninstall all the updates and revert to original version). then clear storage for camera app. then update it from play store. now long press on camera shortcut, give it all permissions including under Advanced (modify system settings). then test it.

thanks. I gave it a shot. It's only been random crashes....we'll see
I had troubles with my P4 XL randomly rebooting and it was caused by a lack of free storage, apparently Android 12 needs a certain amount of free MB/GB to properly work. The system doesn't warn you, it just causes bootloop/reboot issues, even said once that the Android system was corrupt and required a factory reset (I just normally rebooted and it worked, after that I cleared the storage). Do you have enough free storage?
Since I don't know how much A12 desires, I'd suggest to always leave at least 5GB free.

I am on my 3rd 6 Pro. I will tell you my first one was crashing on the camera andnit was indeed a hardware error. My next two 6 Pro's have NEVER frozen or rebooted. No camera problems. I recommend exchanging it through google.
