Accessories Looking for Qi Car mount for CD Slot - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

I am looking for a 15W Qi car mount charger that will fit the thin form factor of the fold 3, and fit in a CD slot. Magnetic would be ideal, but unsure how that would interfere with the charging...
Anyone find one that works well?

I never managed to find a Qi holder, so I settled on this using wired. To be honest, it works really well.

I've used the mount every way.
Closed. Both horizontal and vertical.
Open the same.
I prefer open. With the crease running vertically and clamping top and bottom. Makes it easy to have maps and Spotify open at the same time and plug in a charger.

Hi,
Don't buy anything yet. I have tried several Qi MAGNETIC chargers off Amazon UK (Prime so can return if not happy, you will be though) and have two great solutions now with CD Slot Mounts and Vent Mounts. Both hold the Fold extremely well and you can rotate and evem open and close it whilst on the mount. Not fallen off once and have been on some extremely bumpy roads. Just have to stick a extremely thin metal ring to the back of your case, no where near as bad as that may sound, think it adds a little character to it ☺.
Had to buy the bits separately but still cheaper than the clamp Qi mounts out there that fit the Fold.
Not able to right now but I will post the details tomorrow for you.

Car Dock Stand for Citroen C4 (2011 Model)

Hi guys
This question looks stupid but believe me, you must have this car to find out how big trouble it is to find a proper car dock.
Only suitable place is the air vent but that way phone becomes very hot when using navigation softwares.
If i use the ones which sticks to window then phone is unreachable properly.
So, my question is: Where did you use for docking phone?
Answers with car dock suggestions are welcome...
So i used the magnets in the link, the magnet part i put on the face of my stereo (using heavy foam double sided tape) and the metal strip with the tape on the back of the case for my phone, works great i have a few magnets up so i can change where i put the phone and the magnets aren't really noticeable, i sprayed the one on the deck with black matte paint one layer, can barely see it.
http://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Badge-Bars-Police-Magnet/dp/B000RB1KPQ/ref=pd_ybh_11
only thing was the case im using is the official vzw kickstand case, i have the magnet around the top part of the kickstand, its not a flat surface its got a texture to it, so i just used some electrical tape and taped it around the kickstand so it wouldn't come off when dismounting from the magnet on the dash
you want something like this
They're called "Gooseneck windscreen mount". I have the same issue you do, and I also dislike vent mounts.

Searching for a new car mount. Any Suggestions?

Hi!
I've bought a new bumper (SPG Spigen Ultra Lumi Bumper).
Now I need a new car mount, because my old one does not fit with the bumper.
Any suggestions for new car cradle?

The ibolt car dock is great. Works with or without a case. Does not work with the defender.

How thick are the adhesive plates protruding from the case? can you post a pic?
Its about 5 sheets of copier paper. Very thin. A lot thinner than a credit card.

I've been using the iOttie one touch mount. There's a newer one that just came out called the Easy Flex 2 but I've been using the original one called Easy One Touch. Best car mount I've used. There's a button on the dock plate that when pushed in the 2 arms grab onto the phone and it's pretty secure. To remove it just squeeze the 2 buttons on the side of the mount and the arms open up and the phone pops out.
It's not a powered dock so you have to plug in your adapter straight into the phone. Most times if my phone is fully charged I don't plug it in and it's a very clean look.
I keep an NFC sticker by the dock to turn on GPS and car mode so with this mount everything is just so quick. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions.

I found a cheaper version of the clingo mount http://dx.com/p/long-tube-car-stand-holder-for-iphone-samsung-htc-blackberry-black-156661 and ordered it to give it a try. Hopefully it'll be as sticky as the original and works with any case with smooth surface.

DIY Qi/Wireless Car Dock idea

I've been thinking about creating my own wireless car dock. Basically I was thinking of using a case protector and trimming the edge off that locks the phone into the case to provide for easy insertion/removal from the "dock". On the back of the case I was going to cut an opening for the wireless charging transmitter...preferably one with magnets to assist with keeping the phone in place. Not sure if I'll just buy/use the Nexus 5 charger I currently have build my own. On the back of the charger I was going to attach one of the swiveling mounts which can then attach to one of the mounts similar to what the Pro.Fit mounting brackets and such use.
Any comments, concerns, better ideas?

Not really the same thing at all. The OP is looking for a solution that uses magnets. You could get a random car dock, trim any plastics past the ball joint to fit, epoxy a nexus wireless charger to it, and be done. That would work nicely.
did you even read anything about the air dock ?
you probably skipped over this part...
"Inside the Air Dock are magnets that pull the phone tightly into the foam face"
the FAQ also covers the nexus 5 & 7 + magnets
only reason I bothered posting the product is because the price seems reasonable when you consider how much it would cost to "rig up" something hack style which, in the end, would probably not function as well nor look as nice as the air dock does.
I realize the air dock exists...and it's $69. I already have numerous cases and Qi chargers I can use to do this. The only thing I really need is the swivel adapter and the bracket to install in the car. I think the air dock is great but I feel like I can create something very similar that would work just as good if not better and for less money. The way I look at it, the air dock is missing one thing that I would like just for my own piece of mind, especially since I drive in Pennsylvania a lot (and if you ever have driven in PA, you know you can practically lose your car in the potholes there). I like the idea of a case/surround that doesn't require it to "snap in" to but provides just enough support for a solid hit so it doesn't pop out/off. Basically my idea is very similar to the air dock except it includes a case around the charger part. The way I look at it, even if I were to buy everything to make this, I can still make it cheaper than the air dock. The "case" I would hack apart I can get as cheap as $10 or less, and I already have 3 spares. The charger can be had for around $12 (even if I want to buy just the coil and PCB) unless I want to spend a lot and get another nexus charger which is $50. The only other thing I need is the adapter and mount which is about $9-15. So I can make the same thing for as little as $31-$37.
hey man thanks for writing back ! yes I used to live in PA near philly, now I live south of wilmington DE, this winter has been hell ! my rearview mirror fell off 2 weeks ago from hitting a pothole so I see your concern. one of the reasons why I stopped mounting my phone in my car (used to have an iphone 5) I bought a cheap mount from walmart as you can see here they say the stickiness lasts awhile as long as you wet it when it starts to dry out however mine will no longer get its stick back so its worthless to me.
are you going to fix mount this to your dash, or suction cup it to your window ? the latter I would not recommend
I'm sure you've seen the ram mounts x-grip, it looks top notch and I think if I ever upgrade from the cupholder recess in my scion my phone would be so lucky to find its place there.
sometimes I rest it in front of my stereo so I dont have to look at the word "aux" while the music's on!

That's exactly what I did just yesterday lol.. iMagnet dock with the Qi Nexus charger. The iMagnet dock has 4 strong mangets on the end, well I took those and put them on the plates that you're supposed to put in between a case and phone and glued them together to create a flat surface for the nexus charger.
It works perfect for me. Also had to order a charger to support the nexus charger.

That's pretty similar to what I want to do, although I was thinking of taking a Nexus 5 case and cutting a hole in the back and epoxying it to the charger two allow 2 things. One is to provide a little extra support for severe potholes and also to allow the wireless charger to sit directly on the phone maximizing the charge rate. I was going to cut the lip off around the edge of the case so the phone can just be placed into the case instead of snapping it in since the magnets will take care of the bulk of keeping the phone in place while the sides of the case will just provide extra support. Just an idea. If anything I'll start off with the same/similar thing as what you have and possibly add the case idea if I notice issues of slipping or popping off with pot holes.
As for how/where I was going to mount it (2009 Scion XB), I was thinking of either mounting near the stick shift or possibly to the right of the stereo. Either way I'd rather have something relatively close to the top of the dash. The stick shift would be too low but at least it's accessible if I need to take a quick glance at it.

I have the Cruzerlite TPU cases. They've always served their purpose well for me at least. The magnets on the Nexus 5 Qi charger are pretty strong without a case. With the cruzerlite cases it's not quite as strong but it does hold a bit. Probably wouldn't hold well hitting a series of potholes though. I guess it also depends on how vertical it would be to. I would imagine it would have a better chance of breaking loose completely vertical as opposed to some angle to it.

DIY wireless car charger: http://youtu.be/dDH2_auNWVs
It would actually be nice if there were a thread specifically for DIY Qi charger projects which included pics/plans etc. I guess creativity and the search feature will have to suffice for now.
I was also thinking of building my own Qi charger. I'd like my case to be much smaller though, similar to the Nexus 5 Qi charger. I was thinking of stacking the coil on top of the PCB but I'm not sure what shielding if any is required between the coil and the PCB.
If only that new NXP semiconductor solution were available right now. Check it out here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50hjojLLDww. Nothing much you can do about the size of the coil, but that tiny PCB is freaking sweet.

Bingo! This is exactly what I was suggesting. I think I'll wind up doing the same. I've got one of the CHOE Qi chargers at home, but it is magnet-less. I'm also picking up a PowerBot unit to throw on my desk at the office.
I think you'll find that using a case to hold the phone snugly is not only overkill but also a hassle. Magnets work great on their own, but having a rubbery surface makes it even better.
I have the Air Dock (see here) myself but am considering downsizing to an official Nexus 5 charger fixed to a ProClip (see here) This would not only be smaller but also sturdier. First I might affix the Air Dock itself to the ProClip and see if that satisfies me.
Definitely happy with the Air Dock, though. Great product. The guy making them is great as well.
active nfc, Qi & bluetooth car dock
Hi all, I''ve been messing about with different versions of this for months now, since i had my Nexus 4. When i changed my car last year, the new one came fitted with an active, adjustable Brodit/Proclip iPod dock and a Parrot bluetooth system
The first thing i did was removed the active ipod plug from the bottom of the mount and replaced it with a standard micro usb for the Nexus.
Then i added an nfc tag to trigger a LLama event to switch on bluetooth and start music playback when connected
I decided i didn't like the Parrot system so i removed it and went back to the Belkin Aircast Auto i had from my last car and routed all the cables behind the dash to the lighter socket
Then i thought i'd try a cheap "puck" Qi charger. The jaws on the old ipod mount are very deep and the puck fitted in behind the phone nicely, with the nfc tag on top (first pic). The phone charged well even while streaming bluetooth, but would only maintain charge while using bluetooth and Sat Nav. together, so i kept the option to unplug the Qi and use wired charging when i needed more juice. The charger was a little wider than the phone, hence the foam and slight "v" angle on the mount jaws to hold it firmly
So last week i ordered a new pull tab slip case for my phone and the one that arrived was too small, so i thought it was time to break the guts out of the Qi charger (unclip the 2 halves and remove 4 screws to release a one piece coil and circuit board) and tidy the mount up a bit.
I made a taller plastic backplate for the brodit mount, stuck the circuit board to it with mounting tape and stuck the nfc tag directly to the centre of the coil. Then i added packing to even out the thickness of the whole piece and altered the slip case so it would slide over everything while leaving an access flap so i can still use the wired charger cable when necessary (pics 2 & 3)
If this works well i'll rebuild the charging "sandwich" from better plastic to decrease the thickness a little, then i'll fit an extra lighter socket behind the stereo for the charger

Car Mount recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a good car mount?
I just bought some cheesy magnetic thing from Amazon. Will be returning ASAP. Ideally, I think I'm looking for something that can clip into either the air vents or on the dash of my car. I realized there probably aren't many pixel specific accessories made yet, but maybe someone has had good success with a different model for an earlier phone?
Anyway just wondering what you all were planning on using.
I've been using a good magnetic mount for the CD slot in my car since the Nexus 5 days. I like the Koomus brand of them from Amazon.

I've had the third generation iOttie car mount for about a year, and it is excellent. It doesn't have a vent clip, but its suction cup mount is very sturdy. It even comes with a little pad you can use if your dash is textured.
I second the ProClip. You can get a custom mount for your vehicle, and select a separate holder. I've got a custom mount and a universal holder that can be adjusted if you switch phones.
I second the recommendations for iOttie mounts. I bought their wireless charging one back when I got my Galaxy S6, but I still use it with my Pixels because it is incredibly convenient to secure and remove the device. Excellent quality, usability, and adjustability, well worth the purchase.

Looks like a solid product! I have an '09 Kia Spectra and the dash doesn't look like an easy place to put a phone mount. I checked out their custom mount for my car and the only drawback I can see is it completely covers a vent (for a/c) which may or may not be an issues, I won't know until mounted but.. Any experience with that for you?
Yea on my prior vehicle I had it cover the vent. It was out far enough so it still put out air but it wasn't really directional as far as flow as before. Center ones I didn't care as much about being pointed at me to keep cool. It was a solid bracket though

Another vote for Proclip's mounting solution. The universal large holder works fine with my Pixel 2 XL with a (Caseology Parallax) case. It's pricey but it works beautifully.
I just ordered the IOAuto magnet holder to use with Proclip's mounting bracket. I'm tired of sliding my phone into the holder. 1st world problems, I know.

I bought the IOAuto Pro. It attaches to the vehicle mount that I purchased previously from Proclip. It comes with small circular metal disks that should be attached to your phone.
I hate the thought of using adhesive to stick anything on my phone so I'm going to try and place the disk between the phone and my TPU case. In think the magnet will still work fine.
Check out YouTube. I've seen a couple of videos of others installing it.

I like this simple magnetic holder:
Techmatte MagGrip Orbit Universal Air Vent Magnetic Car Mount Holder
It requires a thin metal plate which works fine if you use a TPU case or other case that's not too thick on the back; this way, it doesn't require any permanent application. I bought 3 for family members, and a friend got one after seeing mine. It's easy to mount, secure, very simple in design - it uses a steel ball that mounts to an air vent, and a magnetic piece that connects to the ball, giving easy adjustment in all directions, or complete removal. This magnetic piece connects to the phone's steel plate. My wife has an iphone 6P which works well; I have a nexus 5X.

I'm curious to see if that works out for you. I'm intrigued, but it seems like $50 is a bit steep for that mount. If it works well for you with a case, I may consider it though.
I know my solution isn't going to be for everyone, but it works well for my needs. I have a hybrid Proclip/Ram Mount solution. Proclip for the center dash mount, then Ram Mounts for the rest (ball, short arm, and X Grip holder). It's more involved than the common solutions, but it puts my phone right whereIi want it and it's rock solid--which is important for those track days.
As mentioned upthread, this does partially block the vent, but on my Mustang not by too much, and the passenger still gets air flow when it's directed their way. A bonus is the phone stays nice & cool when staying on playing podcasts while commuting, or running the telemetry apps while on track.
I can strongly recommend this one. They're a little pricey but I have them in my truck, car, 4-wheeler and mountain bike. Just the spring clips are strong and when you add the rubber sling it'll hold on to the phone almost no matter what. This one actually fits my P2XL better than my PXL. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0066BWMNU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Wireless charging compatible magnetic car mount?

Hey all - has anyone tried a Qi compatible magnetic car mount to see if it would work with our phones? Not really needing the wireless charging, just wondering if those circular magnetic mounts allow the wireless charging feature to still work with our phones. Would be nice to have an actual magnetic mount that charged at the same time, but not a necessity.

Nope it does not work The metal plate stops the wireless charging from working. As I'd rather have magnetic car mount than wireless charging I've just put my Nexus Wireless Charger back to the basement, until I get a car with Android Auto.
Edit: just reread your post and you're asking about a charging mount, which I've not tried. The below still applies.
It works. It all depends where you place the metal plate. I can put mine low enough between the case and phone and still do both. It works fine, but I'd rather have another plate in there to get a better hold on my mount. Sometimes it slides a bit.
What we really need are a couple of metal strips you can put along the sides to reinforce it some more. Take a look at the 3 XL tear down, and you'll see where the charge sensor is. Totally doable. I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FZVCPHL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which has a rubber cover and then a hard backing that snaps in. Placed the plate between those and no scratches
If you look at Nato Mounts, they have a circle ring plate. Big thin O. Scosche also have a U shape plate. Those leave a big opening in the middle. You can get one like the Nato Mount for half the price on Amazon. Just don't know about the charging speed.

I'll have to check that out. I experimented in lowering the magnetic plate on my case so that it was able to recognize it was on the pixel stand and charge, but it was only up to 50% by the morning, so it's interfering with the signal still.
Here's another option, look at the last image, comes with two different magnetic plate options.
