Hey all,
I've been through a few phones nexus s, galaxy nexus, nexus 4, nexus 5 and now a moto x play but its starting to show its age. Ideally the pixel is my dream phone but the price tag is a bit too agressive for me. I've been looking at the Le Pro3 and it seems like a no brainer to me in terms of value per dollar. I just wanted to see if anyone could answer a few questions.
1) Will the phone work in Canada? I'm currently on Koodo Mobile (Same network as Telus). I was looking at the bands on Goldway's page for the phone and it seemed a little hard to understand what was going on with the bands... what was written is "B20:800/B5:850/B8:900/B4:1700/B3:1800/B2:1900/B1:2100/B7:2600 MHz TD LTE B38:2600/B39:1900/B40:2300/B41:2555-2655MHz" which I'm mildly confused by.
2) I'd really rather not use the stock EUI, I'm just too familiar with the vanilla android feel. What would you guys consider to be the most stable rom for this phone, preferably cyanogenmod kinda rom?
3) Anything about the phone you don't like or would like to change? Is there anything I should know before jumping on it?
Thanks!
I am loving this phone. Only thing I am missing for now is nougat but i believe it will be there later.

Get a nice case that covers the front edge of the screen, the included does but the camera bump is exposed a little
mine after month and a half is not working, burn charger and no help from customer service. I really recommend think twice about get this phone. money is not on the trees so if something goes wrong you are alone..
I'd say go for it

It should work:

There is official Lineage OS Support for the device:

IMHO best value for money at the moment, only the camera isn't very good. It's good enough for me, i only use it for snapshots form holidays or childrens birthdays and stuff like that,
but if you need a "good" camera this is probably not your next phone.

This is the exact reason I don't fast charge my phones. Anytime a phone has a sealed battery it goes on an anker smart charger. I have never had problems with a charger or battery when used on an Anker.
I highly recommend one. My girlfriend uses one for her Pro 3 and charges every night and we purchased it on release day and battery is just as good if not betted than then.
I agree with rootuser, if you are willing to accept pictures at about average quality and to spend 2 hours on installing TWRP and, my recommendation after 4 custom roms, yesterday's new Lineage build, there is no better phone out there for the money.
Get off the fence bro.
Im in canada and interested in this phone for SO. I have an Axon 7 and if it would go on sale again, I would buy that. So -
Has anyone had warranty work done on this phone, and how was it?
Where's a good place to buy in Canada that will retain warranty?
If I ended up buying at bestbuy in the US, can I retain warranty in canada?
Guys, why thinking about buying blabla?!
This is a great phone with a great price, and finally the Roms are getting great... The devs jumping on the train and this phone gets even better day by day....
What are you searching for? Support? Service stores? Go get urself an Apple or Samsung and pay 800 bugs.
Power, community... Direct contact and support of devs...?? - this is your phone! Never mind behind which border you are located....

Hello.
I'm thinking of buying a used OnePlus 3 for 338 Euro (my budget is around that price) and therefore I'd like to ask some questions.
1. Is this a good deal or am I better off waiting for OnePlus 3T to go on sale on the official site?
2. Is the bootloader unlock process problematic? Have you faced any issues with it or is it hassle-free? Coming from an LG device, I want to be extra careful with this.
3. I plan to have this device for a longer period of time, around 3-4 years. Is OnePlus 3 a viable choice, despite the fact that it will soon be a year from its release? Will it be able to hold off for that long, in terms of ROM support and general performance/usage?
4. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me? Are there anything you don't like about the phone? Or any general culprits specific to the OnePlus 3?
5. If I decide to buy this specific OnePlus 3, is there sort of a "checklist" (things that I should check) I should go through to verify that it's all good? Anything I should ask/tell the seller? Any other tips when buying this phone? I really don't want to get screwed, so I'd like some insight from you guys.
That would be all for now.
Thanks in advance.

I will try to answer as many of your questions as possible.
2: Bootloader unlock process is a breeze if you read the FAQ in our Guides section. I did not run into any problems.
3: ROM support has been great so far in my opinion. More and more options are popping up each day. I believe OnePlus has also provided from developers on here a free device for them to develop on.
4: I bought my OP3 in October as an upgrade to my Nexus 5. I was furious when they basically released the same phone with a bigger battery in the OP3T though. The reason I didn't jump on the OP3 immediately when it released was because I wanted a bigger battery and then a month after I received my OP3, the OP3T comes out.
I also don't like how camera is only optimized on stock based roms right now because OnePlus has not released camera sources. Also don't like how a new they release a new firmware with each update that breaks things on certain roms. I guess I was spoiled on how easy it was to switch roms on my old Nexus 5.
5: I haven't bought a used phone before but I would suggest making sure the IMEI is not blacked out somehow? Check the screen THOROUGHLY. The screen scratches really easily on this phone. I noticed micro scratches on my screen only after a few weeks of use.

Dont know whether waiting is better for getting a better price. OP3T should be a bit more in price...... so you decide.
2. bootloader unlockig is very easy, no problems
3. i read about the OP2, getting slow updates. BUT trust in xda and CM, there will be a very long support for this device. (Looking at OnePlus One, there are plenty of good rom-devs till now, and will be in future)
but OP said, they will update OP3 and OP3T the same time, so you may expect good official support.
4. have got the OP3 and im very satisfied with the phone. very good/fast fingerprint unlock and real good cam. (not exceptional, but solid good cam)
5. dont know
Great rom and kernel support.
I also had to choose between op3 and op3t and i took the normal one. Its already blazing fast, so i safed the money for snapdragon update. No need.
And i make it easily through the day with the battery, so also no need.
So i am very happy with it and will also use it for at least 4 years.
2. Just go over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3398733
3. Support is plenty for the OP3, especially over here at XDA.
4. Imho this is the best phone I ever had, and I had a few! Pure Performance, no input lags, no microstutters! And with 6GB RAM you don't have to worry about bottlenecks.
I can warmly recommend this one! And with AKT profiles you don't have to worry about battery life! ?

What's the service menu hidden code for this phone? (Europe/Asia variant)
3-If it were me, I'll hold off for OP4 or something...since super size screen like the G6 or devices that have nougat feature hardware are coming to the market. Also, since op3 is outta production, with no new user of op3, I would expect ROMs or stuff in general to be more optimize for op3t.
4-I don't like the mono speaker, camera bump and no suitable temper glass now. Been using without protection for a year now and the only micro scrape came from S pen.
5-Aside from imei check, the other definite proof is dash charge. Get the official dash charger and charge on the spot. If there's a dash charge comment at the bottom, can charge 1% in +-30s, you got the real deal. If there's a return period, immediately root the phone and flash with some ROMs here to see if stuff working, no motherboard change and ect. OP warranty covers rooting.

1. The oneplus 3 is an awesome deal. If you can find it at 400 or under, I think it is worth it. I firmly believe this device will have a long life because of the hardware, oneplus, and the xda community. If you plan on keeping the phone for several years, purchasing some sort of warranty from oneplus might not be a bad idea. Just in case accidental drop water spill or something like that.
2. Bootloaderunlock is stupid easy. Allow bootloader unlocking, then fastboot oem unlock. Done. No special codes, none of that bull that Samsung and LG are putting out.
3. Kind of talked about this in number one, but we have top three dev communities for sure. We'll be getting tons of support for the years to come. I think 4 years is pushing it for any device, I could see 3 given the power of the SD 820, 6gigs of ram, and our dev community.
4. I love my oneplus 3. It's just consistent performer. I know if I put it on the charger for 30 minutes or so on the way to work/school I will have enough power to make it through the day without any of the freezes, hickups, or glitches that plague Samsung and LG. I've been running the official ressurection remix for the past couple days and performance has been beyond fantastic. Even on OOS and the Open Betas, it outclassed all the other android phones I have owned or looked at in shops.
5. It's not like the Samsung or other carrier branded phones where one version is bootloader unlockable and others are not. (Like Samsung with the T-mobile variants and Verizon/ATT variants). Identical to how the Nexus 6p was. A1 and A2, one standard and one international model. I haven't heard any mass reports of the phone dieing at 40 percent like what was happening to the 6p and 5x and have heard nothing like the bootloops caused by LG.
General tip, unless you want to read a ton of people complaining, stay off the OnePlus forums. No harm to them, but there's a lot of people that are just looking for anything to whine and complain about.

Thank you very much for your response, it's extremely encouraging. I just got the response from the seller that the phone was bought in July 2016, was in a protective case from day one, and apparently has no damage at all. Am I still encouraged to go for it? I really, really like this phone and I definitely wouldn't want to miss the chance if it's the right one. Any tips on how could I additionally verify the phone's reliability when meeting with the seller, both software and hardware-wise?

Hmm, ask him to let it get low on charge and see if dash charge should get 3A or more in an app like ampere if the battery is under 40%.. e. Launch the camera, take some pictures record a video, if you have usb otg try using that.. But that's just basic stuff for any phone. Check the screen at angles for cracks
If you like it, get it! ?
Some really good questions, here are my thoughts on them:

I would say (if you're not super excited to purchase soon) - wait for it. Not just for the sale though, they might even bring the midnight black in 64GB later and cut prices on it along with the regular models. OP is like that - completely going against their previous statements
2. Is the bootloader unlock process problematic? Have you faced any issues with it or is it hassle-free? Coming from an LG device, I want to be extra careful with this.
Its a breeze, there is not one but two communities there to help you with it anyway.
3. I plan to have this device for a longer period of time, around 3-4 years. Is OnePlus 3 a viable choice, despite the fact that it will soon be a year from its release? Will it be able to hold off for that long, in terms of ROM support and general performance/usage?
I had a OPO before I switched to OP3 - each of the device is a winner. And as you can see, it has been more than 8 months since OP3 release and it is still one of the most popular devices on XDA. There are many ROM/Kernel options, however, due to the camera blobs hassle, many people are staying on OOS based ROMs.
4. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me? Are there anything you don't like about the phone? Or any general culprits specific to the OnePlus 3?
I am really happy with my phone and will definitely recommend it to anyone. It is a very pretty phone no matter what color you opt for.
Things I don't like:
1. Unavailability of better-looking screen protectors - there are ones which dont cover the edges, and then there are ones which cover the whole screen and the top and bottom bezels, but I have heard they don't have a very nice feel.
2. On OP3, Battery life is average - on mobile data you get 3Hrs of SoT with average use I think it would be a bit better on the 3T.
3. Camera bump
5. If I decide to buy this specific OnePlus 3, is there sort of a "checklist" (things that I should check) I should go through to verify that it's all good? Anything I should ask/tell the seller? I would recommend getting a new one, used tech is almost always a risky decision. However if you do go for a used one, probably checking the camera, dual-SIM functionality, 4G reception on your network, fingerprint sensor and capacitive touch buttons are the first things to check.
Also look for any dead pixels, burn-in or digitizer issues etc. Basically do everything you will be using when you get the phone.

I don't want to wait till June to buy a new phone, but feel like with my luck the second I receive a 5T the OP6 will get released.
I've spent the past couple of days looking at phones. OP5T has the most pros (build quality, software, specs, performance, development, price.)
The Pixel 2 is expensive and aside from the camera, not necessarily a better device (I don't think)
Essential phone seems like a bargain (now)but the camera is subpar.
OP5T cons: apparently not great picture quality and no project treble. These aren't small compromises but they're easier to overlook by because its such an appealing device.
No one wants to hear me talk about phones. If you have a minute I'd REALLY appreciate your input.
Should I buy OP5T? Ideally Id like to use my next phone for 2 years.
Any input is welcome.
Thanks!
I consider the 5t as the best android option
after two years it will still be fast and great
considering that the oneplus 6 is just around the corner I would have waited for it
but still you won't go wrong with the 5t

Thanks. The one supposed downside about OP6 is price. I'm hearing $749. If that's the base model then it might influence my decision.
I'm really leaning toward buying OP5T.
Maybe you can clarify. I've heard that any phone that gets updated to Android P will need to support project treble. Oneplus has stated it won't support project treble which, if I have my facts straight, means there will be no Android P for this phone. That'd suck because this phone was released after Oreo came out. It seems like they purposely held back on O just so they wouldn't need to support treble.
Have you or anyone else heard different? Is it likely the 5T will receive P and according to the rules would need to support treble?
I'm sure this phone will continue to attract developers for awhile but with project treble I'm extremely confident developers will stick around and new ones will emerge. The specs on this phone can carry it for years.
android P and treble being mandatory are still assumptions based on source code this may change in the future and there may be a workaround by oneplus to release it for the 5t but most likely android P will be released for the 5t
so if that what is holding you back don't make it prevent you from buying it will 90% get official android 9
If you want it, buy it...if not then dont.
Although the 5t camera is not considered a high point I think it is very good, using it was above my expectations, but I come from an iPhone 6s where I also found the camera very good, and even then the 5T is more. as speed is something above the ordinary, I was using samsung's and motorolas, using oneplus was a pleasant surprise, I had never seen Android run so fast

Yes I'm aware. That's what made me consider holding out for OP6. Often times when sales stop suddenly like that it means the release date is coming soon. There are rumors it'll launch early. But at $749 for the base model...its a little more than I wanted to spend. There's plenty of new OP5T's on eBay and Amazon.

You may have just convinced me.
That's the part I can't really get a straight answer for. It's a definite that any phone that ships with O is mandated to have project treble. I've heard if it updates to P they need to implement treble but I don't think Google will hold them to that. It could cause problems because some companies might not update to P to avoid treble, and point a finger at Google. Google can blame them but really both parties will hurt a little.
Anyways, I think I'm gonna get one. Thanks

Yeah. I loved my Nexus 6p. If they hadn't botched that battery I'd still be using out.
It's been an adventure since my last post. I looked on eBay and Amazon. The 5Ts are generally selling $700+ unless you buy international version (no warranty)
Plus the reasonably priced ones had some concerning seller feedback.
Figured if I was gonna pay that much I might as well go with a Pixel 2 XL. Found one onWalmart that seemed to good to be true (XL 128GB for $849) but then realized that unlocked GSM/CDMA means locked bootloader so I cancelled the order.
I'm not paying a premium when for a little more I can just wait and buy the OP6.
Sucks though. I was hoping to get one by the weekend. I even considered Swappa because it's a relatively new phone but even there the prices are a little bloated.
If anyone finds a good deal please report it here or private message. Lol! I picking the worst FREAKIN time to buy a 5T.
But why don't you buy it from China? I know that guaranty is a thing, but for 200 USD you can fix it yourself even if it will be a hardware issue.
Hey all,
I bought this phone thinking it was going to be a sea of development given the "gamer" friendly tags that were constantly thrown about, but development is almost literally non-existent and as such, this is really not the device for me. I would almost happily switch back to my OnePlus 3 at this point, just so I could play around with it, try out different ROMs and enjoy the variety you get from a phone with great support. Right now, I am pretty much bored with the phone. And with such a bad camera on such a premium device, I'm actually a bit annoyed at it's price point too..
Now, I've got a few minor scrapes on the edges from a drop here or there, but the hardware is perfectly functioning. What do you think I should put it up for?
(I'm in UK)
Development should take off once Oreo is released due to treble support (check the treble thread for proof of lineage booting)
However ATM with nougat there's nothing. Tbh this A/B partitioning thing is what causes all these development issues it's why I hate it.

The A/B thing doesn't appear to help no.
I'm going to dump this for something older. Maybe sell this for ~£400.
Should give me enough to get a OnePlus 5T or HTC U11 or Xiaomi MI6.

You might not get £400 for it. I paid £400 for a brand new unsealed one a month or so ago so yours being used will knock a bit off.
Saying that if you can I'd sell it now and hold off on OP6 if you can and if you can't afford the OP6 the 5T should drop a bit online that's if you can wait a bit.
If you can't out of all of those id get the 5T (and then flash lineage OS) I don't trust OP software anymore.

Even if I do, it's never as bad as people make out. Like £20 max.
Bought a Mi5 before from a similar company and it was minimal.

I got hit with £90 for importing the essential phone so it can be more than you think.
If you want to sell, I'd recommend CEX they offer a decent price for it.
But the person above is correct, you can easily get them around £350 - £400 brand new or brand new condition.
Otherwise try your luck on gumtree, but be safe out there. I've been burned in the past using them.

Give it a little time till the official android 8.1 update comes out
The main reason to why the community has been dry is because project treble has not yet been officially released and since the 8.1 preview, things are looking good.
Be patient a little and we will see.
I can't give it any more time. I'm literally having more fun right now messing around with my old Xiaomi Mi 5!
New phone on it's way and happy to sell this for £300/£350.

Thats up to you bro. Thats what i would do because you can go back to oneplus anyways. I would wait.
It's a shame as this best phone out, but reading all the issues about hardware fails and bad camera, no wireless charging, no ROMs, etc etc. I'm sticking with my Moto z (and that has similar lack of support!). And believe me I really wanted to ditch and get a Razer, but I just couldn't justify it!
/offtopic tl;dr etc.
??
I was also head over when this phone was announced and released. Am glad I took my time because the lack of development support would have driven me nuts!. Price wise these are definitely falling. There was an offer recently if I remember correctly when mobiles.co were selling the phone on a £30 a month contract with 30gb of data a month! That was cheap but perhaps a reflection of the falling demand and prices.
I just bought a used one! It'll be here probably Wednesday or Thursday.
Think I will be selling mine in a week or so, I can't handle not having even one ROM to play with, can't believe the lack of development I thought this would have had developers all over this to test and enhance this powerful and exciting device. Its a sad day for all razer phone owners. P. S I do respect developers and time and effort they put into creating the roms and mods respect to all
Food for Thought perhaps...
my previous five phones have been Sony I've loved them, my last Sony the xz1 performed abysmally such that I jumped ship for the Razor with its enhanced screen capabilities and superior RAM architecture.
So I just recently purchased the Sony xz2 for my girlfriend which has the 845 processor I believe.
In a nutshell having used the Razor and then playing with this new xz2 I was shocked at how backward that xz2 felt compared to the blistering fast experience that I'm experiencing on our razor.
The xz2 felt sluggish in direct comparison.
Therefore leaving me with a very sweet taste in hanging on to the Razer.
The 835 cpu, 8gb DDR4 RAM with the 120Hz screen.
Honestly no phone out there today reacts and loads quicker then the Razer.
But I hear and do appreciate there are some compromises with the Razer.
But the good far outweigh the bad in my circumstance.

The problem is.... I LOVE the ROM flashing scene. I love tinkering with the OS and getting a feel for different ROMs and their features. Completely baron in here unfortunately and it is for that reason almost entirely that I gave up.
I get bored with phones too quick. Flashing new ROMs always breathes little doses of fresh air back in to them and keeps you interested. Depending on who you are of course.
I am pretty cheap, but when I buy something, It's among the best in its class. I had a Note 2 that I was plenty happy with, until it died. I didn't know how to repair phones and replace main boards, so I had to buy a new phone. I got an S5 in 2014. Really awesome phone, and even today, it's pretty damn good. However, I have wanted a new Note for a while, and I really like what the Note 10 is probably going to be. So yeah, I'll pull the trigger on the most loaded 5g capability Note 10 Samsung will sell in the USA. But I will work hard to make it the last pbone I buy for a very very long time. Hardware repairs will be east since I'll buy "parts only" phones to repair mine once it's off-warranty. So my next phone after the note 10 will be the Galaxy Fold 17, as in a folding cellphone that flips out to daylight readable 17" display. Until then, I can't think of a good reason to upgrade, considering the cost of a new high-end phone these days. Frankly, phones today are more powerful than I can ever imagine using on such a small display. The software is gonna be the issue. So my plan is to let Lineage developers build awesome ROMs for the Note 10 and when it looks like support is ending there, I'll pick up the torch. But before then, I gotta learn how to build Lineage for it, and especially how to update its security profiles. I'm sure that eventually there will be a version of Android that won't run satisfactorily on the Note 10, and that is when I'll need to be able to support my own phone to keep it secure.
I have modified code on Linux apps, and compiled my own kernels in the past, so I know the basics, but anything Android specific is lacking.
So, what do I need to learn and where do I start to learn how to support my note 10 when all the other reasonable users have moved on and the Note 10 is all but forgotten?
Thanks
Keith

I don't have any of the Galaxy Note devices myself but, your best bet is to take a look at the following areas of the forum that's specific to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 devices.

Good Luck!

I don't build or maintain ROMs myself. But i flash many different devices. What i learned: buy a second device of the exactly same type. Used S5 are really cheap nowadays. You can even get one with a broken screen. Start building wit the official sources and then fork them and try some modifications.
