Is there any way to connect after this mistake? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Very simple situation :-
1. Remote broke months ago,
2. Always used the Fire TV Remote android app to control the stick.
3. One day my internet was lagging so I thought to disconnect and connect with the wifi.
>> as soon as I disconnected the wifi the app stopped working , and so I completely lost control of the stick.
Is there any way to connect with wifi so I can connect with the phone or vice-versa with the help of PC or rooted android.??
If anyone can help I will be a very grateful and it will save me from buying a new one.

Use CEC on TV , than you can use your tv Remote

Need to change wifi password

So about a month ago, my technophobe husband tipped over a pepsi onto our firestick remote, essentially turning it into a nice paperweight. No problem, I downloaded the Amazon app. However I had no idea that having to replace the modem and router would cause another problem. How to change the wifi password on a jailbroken stick using an app?
What happens, is that the app searches for the stick, which it cannot find any longer, because it cannot get past the wifi password wall. I can't use the app to change anything on the firestick because they cannot currently speak to one another, and the remote that came with it is....a paperweight.
I need help. The husband is a television addict, and is peeved that he cannot get his ESPN or American Picker's fix in the living room.

Can you not connect the old router up temporarily, connect the app then within the app add your new router then disconnect the old router?
If you have previously enabled adb in fire stick settings under developer options connect the Firesticks usb power lead to a laptop and download an app called adbLink and use adb to control, I think the adbLink program has its own dedicated remote button.

That would be the simple solution, if we hadn't traded in the old router for one that didn't go into random wait mode with our internet provider. I will try the app. I hope it works, There is nothing like a 62 year old man who complains constantly that he cannot watch his boring history channel reruns on Sling. I adore the man and would rather not have to drain his life force just so I can get the projects done I need to do before their deadlines.
Hope it works out well.

Configuring wifi without standard remote control

I tried searching other threads but cannot figure out if the solution is the same for my problem. I accidentally selected to forget network on my Amazon fire stick and have misplaced the remote control so now I have no idea how to connect to my wifi network using only my phone. Any ideas? I cannot find the device when I open up the app because it is currently disconnected from the wifi. Am I out of luck until I get a replacement remote?
I have a similar issue. I install Kodi and Mobdro on friends and family fire tv sticks but sometimes they do not have the remote and they are on my wifi so i cant use my fire tv remote android app without the wifi turned on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fire TV stick - is there any way to pass initial "remote pair" step?

Hello Developers!
I got a problem and I hope some of you can help me (if not you then i don't know who). I have Fire TV stick 2 gen for about 2 years and recently my remote stopped working. I installed amazon TV app on my cellphone to get back control of the stick. Then I tried everything I was able to find on the Internet (new batteries, hold home button for 5-10-20 sec, find new BT device from the settings menu, etc.) to bring back to life original remote but there was no luck. So I decided to reset the stick back to factory settings (bad idea). As you can guess now I have the stick that is asking me to pair my (probably dead) remote with it (!).
I don't have friends with amazon TVs and I don't want to pay $20 for the new remote ( when the new stick with remote is like $30 ) I'm ok to use the app.
So I have three questions for you guys:
1) Is there any way to skip the first step (initiation of remote)? Maybe I can find some kind of firmware that I can change a little bit
(put my wifi settings and tell to skip 1st step) and flash it into my stick? IDK...
2) As I understand the original remote works on BT not on WIFI so Is there any app that uses BT and can be recognized as an amazon tv remote on that 1st step. Two apps I've tried (amazon tv app and CetusPlay) use WIFI.
3) Is there any way to check if my remote still live or completely dead? (Again I have no friends with amazon TVs)
Thanks for any input!
No ideas guys? Any?
I think you actually need a remote for first time boot :/ I don't think there is any app out there that emulates the remote, I could be wrong but have you tried this?

I have exactly the same issue. I don't know if my remote is working or not.
I managed to connect a usb keyboard and stupidly reset the thing to defaults - disabling developer mode in the process.
Now I have a firestick that keeps asking me to "pair the remote..."
Is there any way to enable adb ?
in this thread.. ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/unlock-fire-tv-stick-2nd-gen-tank-t3907002 ) I remember reading about shorting a pin inside the unit to ground, would this allow adb access?

I want to say I'm fairly certain I was able to skip the pairing with a USB keyboard. Although I don't remember what key I pressed.
My remote stopped too. I stretched out the springs and reinstalled the batteries. Works great now.
Did you have any luck solving this Bartyman?
with a usb keyboard i was able to use play button to bypass
I reset my device using TWRP, and cannot get pass the "pair remote" screen! Help!? Would buying a otg cable and using a usb keyboard help? or is that a waste of money?

buying a OTG is very useful, almost any keyboard/mouse will work. makes TWRP easier also. holding down the home button for about 10 seconds has worked for me when trying to pair the remote. I dont know if you can do anything to get by it with CEC using the TV remote.

Android TV VPN Issue

Hey all, just got a new cheap tv for the spare room, wanted android and nothing too expensive so we picked up a Kogan android tv for $500AUD. Im trying to connect a vpn to it so i can use hulu on the tv like i do on my PC and yet every time i connect a VPN the tv instantly loses all connection and you need to reboot the TV to regain an internet connection, simply disconnecting the vpn dossnt fix this. I have tried 3 vpns, express, pia and nord, with every connection variant and protocol and every time get the same result, is this fixable at all? Whats going on?
Should mention the tv is running ATV 9
I have also a same tv model and I am using a pure vpn on it. It works fone on my tv and didn't face any sort of issue yet. I think you can try this one. https://www.purevpn.com/download/android-tv-vpn

Firestick will not allow sign in - remote will not pair

Hi everyone
This is NOT the normal posting about pairing a remote to the Amazon Fire Stick. I have a Firestick and at the sign in page (where you connect your user account to Amazon) it is completely stuck. The remote does nothing.
Note:
The remote works fine on another Firestick
The batteries have been replaced and are OK
The usual tips for pairing the remote to the Firestick have all failed.
No matter what I do the remote will note pair (the remote is fine). I cannot get past the sign-in screen.
Does anyone know a way to reset the Firestick?
Has the Firestick gone completely?
Will ADB Link or other such device reset it?
Does anyone have any ideas please?
Thank you
3 options I can think of.
1) Use an OTG adapter and plug in a keyboard. Finishing signing in then navigate to the settings and pair the remote in the settings.
2) Same as the above except use the fire tv remote app on your phone.
4) Root the stick (if possible on your version) factory reset/wipe in TWRP. If that doesn't fully reset the device you can flash the stock firmware and it will restore it to the same state as it was out of the box, meaning the first screen will be on remote pairing.
I suspect what happens is the stick was deregistered. That usually brings up the sign-in page, and somewhere either the pairing was lost or that isn't the remote that was paired with that stick when it was deregistered.
Dear Sir
Thank you for your excellent, extensive response. However, I am unsure what TWRP is?
Thank you
I would highly suggest trying option 1 or 2 first. Option 3 requires rooting the stick and you should have a good understanding of what TWRP is before going down that path. Also you may or may not even be able to root it, depending on which you have and the software version it's on.
Hello it would have to be option 3. I tried the fire TV app and it would not install on either my phone or fire tablet. The only thing I cannot understand using TWRP is the tutorials I have seen say the Android device needs to have ADB Debugging ON.
Hardly a chance of doing it as I cannot access the device in the first place!!!
I will have a go and see what comes up.
Cheers
Using TWRP requires unlocking the device, and unlocking the device requires an older firmware that is vulnerable to an exploit. I don't know which Stick you have or your firmware version, but if the Stick has received an update since March, then there is no way to unlock it currently.
If you had TWRP, you wouldn't need to enable ADB debugging in FireOS, because TWRP includes it's own ADB binary that it enables.
Have you already tried the FireTV app on a phone/tablet? When you choose setup a new device, I thought the phone communicated with the Stick via Bluetooth?
Hello Finnzz!
thank you for the input.
I did try and install FireTV on my kindle tablet but it won't install for some reason.
I am not aware of the phone or device connecting via bluetooth (I thought it was only the remote that came with it that did that) but if it does connect with bluetooth I cannot get into the Firestick to actually connect to wi-fi or to turn on bluetooth devices! So, I am stuck!
Just to clarify, I'm talking about the FireTV app for Android.
Amazon Fire TV - Apps on Google Play
Simple navigation, a keyboard, plus voice search for Fire TV.
play.google.com
When using that app on your phone, and selecting:
'set up new device'
Then:
'Fire TV'
This will search for FireTVs via Bluetooth. Bluetooth is turned on by default on the FireTV. The stock FireTV remote connects to the Stick using Bluetooth, so it has to be on.
If you are using a FireHD tablet download the FireTV app from the Amazon app store, don't sideload the Google Play Store version.

Edit: Also, have you already tried resetting the remote?

Hello
Thank you for the reply. Just to make sure does the Firstick need to be connected to wi-fi in order for bluetooth to work because if that is the case I cannot turn on wi-fi.
Thank you

Have you already tried the remote reset procedure linked to above? This is the first thing you should try. Simply taking out or replacing the batteries does not reset it.
Did you already try using the FireTV app on another Android device? I wouldn't think that if the app is communicating via Bluetooth for setup that WiFi was needed. Try it and see
Bullseye!!!
Nailed it finally and the recommendation you put forward (Fire TV app) worked a treat. It amazed me how fast and responsive it was.
Without your assistance I thought the Firestick was ready for the bin.
I am very appreciative to the following contributors:

Cheers!
Glad you got it sorted. Sorry for my misinformation, I wasn't aware the app commuted with the stick over Bluetooth.
