Question Samsung messages vs Google messages? - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

Does Samsung use RCS? I usually like to stick with Samsung because I feel like Google messages drains the battery quickly.

No one has got it to work yet. Only Google messages.

Google messages is way better. Never noticed battery drain.

same, always with google messages on any android phone

Must be region dependent?
In Australia, we have Samsung Messages working with RCS.
Have it on my S21U and on my Fold3.

Yes samsung messages uses RCS in Sweden a ISP has begun supporting RCS and it was enabled in samsung messages app

No it's not region depended. It's ISP/operator depended. Once your provider supports RCS the feature will be automatically enabled into samsung messages app.

The wife and I are both on Verizon. Guessing it doesn't support rcs yet

No, Samsung started using Googles universal Jibe profile, so it's independent of carriers.
Yes, originally, some Samsung phones relied on carriers to implement it, and as we know, they screwed around, hence Google rolling out RCS independently of carriers.

I meant that Samsung may not have rolled out updated version of their Messages app or the service, world wide yet.

It's still carrier depended. Since alot of carries out there don't support RCS so then feature won't show up in app until carrier supports it. But I get what you mean about update.

I use the stock Samsung texting app because the Google one couldn't read (messages were missing) tons of my previous texts from my previous phone (S7 Edge), which is not something I can live with. At first I was annoyed that RCS can't be reset or you can't send/resend a text as a regular, non-Chat text if the person doesn't receive it when their Chat isn't working even though their dot is on, but I discovered that it automatically sends texts as regular texts if it doesn't go through as an RCS (even if the person is sending you RCS texts just before and after - not sure why it doesn't work at times).

Google Voice voicemails in Phone app

During the Nexus/ICS unveiling in Hong Kong it was mentioned that while using Google Voice, all voicemails would be shown in the Phone app (alongside missed and recent calls).
They made note of a new API that allows all voicemail services to "plug in" to this functionality.
Have they not enabled this yet for the Google Voice app? I can receive voicemails through the GV app, but they do not show in the Phone app.
Maybe it's something wrong with my setup?

I didn't even know they announced that. My voicemails certainly do not show up in the call log. Although, it would be pretty cool if they did.
hey that's a good question, what happened to that feature? i watched it at the event and it looked awesome. your voice mail played right inside the call log. i havent even heard anything about it since then...

wow. that look awesome! I would love to have that. The google voice app is not very pretty/user friendly. This method is much more elegant.
Yeah, the GV stuff really could stand to be more fully integrated with the OS. For example, wouldn't it be SWEET to receive SMS via GV and then have an option to just send those messages to the default SMS application on your phone? At the moment, there isn't really any good/friendly way for 3rd party apps to interact with the GVApp. +1 for more GV OS integration!

Kinda like iMessage where it is all integrated...
I read somewhere awhile back that they were totally redesigning the GV app...maybe that's what they're waiting on?
Still waiting on MMS support. I hate that when someone sends me a picture message it simply goes into a black hole with no bounce notification to the sender or notification to me that one was sent

True, but all replies to the original incoming SMS will be sent from the cell number and not the Google Voice number.
From what I understand the ability to integrate voicemail into the phone app exists in ICS already but the carriers or an app has to write code to make it happen. So yes if google chose they should be able to use the API they wrote into ICS for GV and integrate it...I for one hope they do, having to go to GV for voicemail suks.

What messages app do you use?

I've never used Message+ before, but it's the default messaging app. Is it a good app, or another crappy verizon bloat app?
I love Handcent.
Even let's you back up sms and mms separately to the cloud. And restore. Without root.

You could call it a bloat app with actual functionality. With Message+ you can send texts on wifi (no Verizon signal) and from other devices (Mac/PC, Android/iOS tablet, other phone) and have it sync on your phone. I use it as my default because its the only multi-device texting app that doesn't need your phone to be on in order to send messages as they are sent directly through Verizon.
I absolutely love textra. nothing pulled me from 8sms for over a year until I found textra.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using Tapatalk.
I just find that 3rd party apps don't run as "smoothly" as built in messaging apps. Maybe it's just my mindset idk lol..
I use it on my WiFi only tablet. Works good. Aside from that I use stock.
I use Samsungs message app. I am a little irritated that took quick reply and the detailed lockscreen info away. Along with other little things like the ability to change folder colors. Annoying, but nice phone
I use Verizon Message + to restore all my messages and then I revert to using the included Android app. I've tried many of the third party apps, but I hate hate hate the advertising and I feel they are generally slower as well.

I switch between GoSms and Handcent. Might have to check out Textra if people really like that. Also saw one called Sliding Messaging that looked kind of cool.

I refuse to use message + because Verizon's security is absolutely garbage. I've been hacked and people have gotten into my integrated messaging and it's absolutely ridiculous what a security flaw this is. If i were you guys, I wouldn't use it.

Pretty sure no one's trying to hack me plus I keep my text threads cleared out. I'm ocd and hate the clutter.
I've been partial to EvolveSMS lately, other than that I just user stock, which is apparently Message+ now.

S7 active update

Anyone else get the update??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using XDA-Developers mobile app
It's installing now. Any idea what is new/updated in this?
got the update biggest change was wifi calling not sure what else
Just got mine used and updated it today. Saw the wifi calling but didn't read the rest, I did notice mine was on the May security update and now it's on the July update so could be that.
They also removed all traces of the Oculus software that was originally on our devices. So no chance of getting VR support for these devices in the future then
wifi calling now available (eg wifi-only calling, BUT no wifi-only messaging so thats kinda stupid...)
activity zone 'compass mode' with 'map mode' (which never worked, only said 'google services is updating' removed
advanced messaging (separate balloon per text/attachment, and 'xxx is typing' is new)
Great news! The recent update 8/11/2016 fixed the dpi error we were getting. I was able to successfully change my dpi using the display scaling app. View attachment 3839483

I checked on the official site (which just recently added the phone on the site, as I've been checking often), and they don't have any info on updates or anything posted yet.
So far I noticed: WiFi Calling and Messaging, Message Scheduling (Don't think I noticed this before), Security Update, Removal of Oculus (the setup for the full Oculus Software), Advanced Messaging for AT&T customers, and Text Counter.
If we see anything else, I'll add to this, or we can hope for release notes/ change log
Anyway i can update this without att sim? Im using cricket
Should be able to
I have the s7 active and the battery life is OK not great but ok and the update installed WiFi calling and text messaging works on WiFi
The only times I've ever had good battery life on any Android device were and continue to be from custom roms and kernels. No stock rom including stock nexus roms give me good battery life. That being said, my used S7A is actually not too bad for everything stock without root and it had better with such a big battery.
Anyone one having problem with mms video being blurry when sent to another phone. I know it's not the carrier att because my wife has an iPhone 6s and it sends the same mms video perfect. Picking brains not noses

That is likely due to compression in the SMS client you're using. I don't know what AT&T's limitations are on file size for MMS, but I do know third-party SMS apps allow for tweaking of that. I use Textra currently, and can set a max upload/send size in the options. I know other SMS apps have similar functionality, but I doubt the stock one does.
Another update today, looks to be only security fixes for Aug. I'm actually surprised they released it IN Aug and not months down the line. Lol

[Guide] How to get RCS on Samsung Messages.

So, I was interested for long time to get work RCS on Samsjng Messages. I spoke with Samsung support while ago. And they said, should work. I tried to figure out abd finally done. So what you need to do. I believr on all samsung phones comes installed Google Duo. You MUST verify your number with Google Duo. It is simple, couple steps. After you done RCS works. RCS on the native Samsung Messages app is already available to some users.
If you don't have it hard coded into your customer.xml then this won't work. This will be because your carrier doesn't support it.
I have seen the lines of code that activate this and its quite a complicated task.
Even then if your carrier doesn't support it it may not work
Forget about it if you're not wanting to break knox basically
If you do have it coded in then yes this method works

I could possibly make a module for this as the method would be similar to how I implement cscfeatures

So basically anyone with the non-carrier-branded stock U1 firmware wont have it hard coded into their customer.xml file right? I mean since its carrier specific and that firmware is not customized by the carriers...
In that case, for my note (U1 model) in order to get RCS working (I have T-mobile) I would have to flash the USERDATA file for T-Mobile on my phone?
IDK I could be completely wrong im just asking because thats what i've understood...
