So, I was interested for long time to get work RCS on Samsjng Messages. I spoke with Samsung support while ago. And they said, should work. I tried to figure out abd finally done. So what you need to do. I believr on all samsung phones comes installed Google Duo. You MUST verify your number with Google Duo. It is simple, couple steps. After you done RCS works. Perhaps i just need to wait.
Go to Messages > Settings > Chat Settings > Press on it. And follow steps.

RCS on the native Samsung Messages app is already available to some users.
If you don't have it hard coded into your customer.xml then this won't work. This will be because your carrier doesn't support it.
I have seen the lines of code that activate this and its quite a complicated task.
Even then if your carrier doesn't support it it may not work
Forget about it if you're not wanting to break knox basically
If you do have it coded in then yes this method works
---------- Post added at 08:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 AM ----------
I could possibly make a module for this as the method would be similar to how I implement cscfeatures

So basically anyone with the non-carrier-branded stock U1 firmware wont have it hard coded into their customer.xml file right? I mean since its carrier specific and that firmware is not customized by the carriers...
In that case, for my note (U1 model) in order to get RCS working (I have T-mobile) I would have to flash the USERDATA file for T-Mobile on my phone?
IDK I could be completely wrong im just asking because thats what i've understood...

Still gotta DL the WHOLE app (eg. a 1GB game update) instead of just the new/replaced files that Google announced will be launched with the JB release.
Smart Update: http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/17/3248874/google-play-store-smart-updates-enabled
Anyone know what going on with that?
I don't know the technical details of the technology, but from what I read about it I assume it only works for changes in the APK. Games often contain a lot of graphic data, which probably renders this technique kinda useless
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'm pretty sure they are already enabled but they still show as if you are downloading the entire file. So there is no way to know when they are put to use and how big the apk diff files are.
Busybox free uses it..and facebook 1.9.9 update too...
With the last updates it was finished within seconds..the download....
Interesting. So how does Google select which apps start using it? Or is it some kinda automated update adding apps to its list for Smart Update support?
Noo the devs of the apps must build it in aka support it

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. Google automatically enables smart app updates for all (I presume) apps. This was said at the I/O conference that developers didn't need to do anything and personally I haven't seen any new API calls nor manifest lines that I need to add.

FWIW, I updated Dead Trigger the other day and it only downloaded around 500k of updated data... so, yea, it does work for games as well.
Again, it depends on the APK and the changes involved.
Something I noticed the other day: the progress bar on the Play Store was slow, and would cut off somewhere in the middle just before updating. If you want to see the real update progress, look in the notification shade.

I think its an switch that the dev must activate to use it

Yes, I have noticed this also recently. So I guess it was a slow rollout.
I have encountered several updates that use this. I remember Google saying that it is something that will happen automatically and not something that will require any changes on the part of the developers

If you go in to system updates through the settings and check for the update, you have 3 options, No Thanks, Download Later, and Download Now.
If you click No Thanks, the alert goes away. It will even state in the system update app that the last update (on June 30th, 2105) failed.
Download later allows you to choose a time that better suits you.
And of course Download Now, starts the process right now.
Hope this helps.
When i go to system update all i have is update now or later. I don't get the no thanks option.

Just downloaded and installed software changed to 11A, so far only thing ive noticed is keyboard is a lot smother so far no missed taps
Also seems to have helped with wifi issue before it was like i was on dial up, couldnt get a page to load but now i can actually use wifi
Yes, waiting to d/load it later today.
From Droid-Life:
An update is rolling out for the LG G4 on Verizon, bringing a few features to owners, but nothing all that special. The software version is labeled as VS98611A.
Included is an enhanced Folio display while a call is taking place, an updated consistency for displaying contacts and non-contacts in the Dialer app, and an enhanced Advanced Calling feature. That’s it.

You'll Be Ok..
https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-android-messages-rcs-messaging/
The Main Thing... when you get your device is :
DON'T ROOT IT... There are too many cool updates coming soon that will require a "Locked Bootloader" / Stock Device to get them on Day 1 of the rollout.
I dont know how he is having those issues..
I use swiftkey on all my phones and never got any issue with gifs on any app which supports gif.. It sends gifs easily.. Even by using search option.xda doesnt of course support gif but whatsapp, instagram, snapchat do support..

Yes.. I'm very familiar with Textrra... ( love the Black Theme ) you are very wise to leave well enough alone... and not worry about having Root Access..
Right now.. it serves no real purpose.
EMUI 8.0 and Oreo 8.0 along with Treble Support far outweigh Root at this time..
With Porject Treble I don't know.. but, maybe one day.. Root Access will mean something again.

No it's not region depended. It's ISP/operator depended. Once your provider supports RCS the feature will be automatically enabled into samsung messages app.

No, Samsung started using Googles universal Jibe profile, so it's independent of carriers.
Yes, originally, some Samsung phones relied on carriers to implement it, and as we know, they screwed around, hence Google rolling out RCS independently of carriers.

It's still carrier depended. Since alot of carries out there don't support RCS so then feature won't show up in app until carrier supports it. But I get what you mean about update.
I use the stock Samsung texting app because the Google one couldn't read (messages were missing) tons of my previous texts from my previous phone (S7 Edge), which is not something I can live with. At first I was annoyed that RCS can't be reset or you can't send/resend a text as a regular, non-Chat text if the person doesn't receive it when their Chat isn't working even though their dot is on, but I discovered that it automatically sends texts as regular texts if it doesn't go through as an RCS (even if the person is sending you RCS texts just before and after - not sure why it doesn't work at times).
