Verizon Auto Update.
Was on my phone and saw something downloading, it's an update. Has anyone else gotten this on VZW?

Incoming Verizon Update
Just got the notification. Waiting on WiFi it says.

Nothing special
I'm going to avoid it in case they patched something. So far it seems you can avoid it by staying off of WiFi.
edit: It started downloading on LTE... I killed Software Update and it keeps respawning.

If you go in to system updates through the settings and check for the update, you have 3 options, No Thanks, Download Later, and Download Now.
If you click No Thanks, the alert goes away. It will even state in the system update app that the last update (on June 30th, 2105) failed.
Download later allows you to choose a time that better suits you.
And of course Download Now, starts the process right now.
Hope this helps.
When i go to system update all i have is update now or later. I don't get the no thanks option.

I didn't get any pop up notifications. I was on WiFi and it just started downloading by itself.
Just downloaded and installed software changed to 11A, so far only thing ive noticed is keyboard is a lot smother so far no missed taps
Also seems to have helped with wifi issue before it was like i was on dial up, couldnt get a page to load but now i can actually use wifi
Yes, waiting to d/load it later today.
From Droid-Life:
An update is rolling out for the LG G4 on Verizon, bringing a few features to owners, but nothing all that special. The software version is labeled as VS98611A.
Included is an enhanced Folio display while a call is taking place, an updated consistency for displaying contacts and non-contacts in the Dialer app, and an enhanced Advanced Calling feature. That’s it.

Wow that is very odd...
I didn't have to do anything to be able to Choose "No Thanks".
I operate on a Federal Corporate line I wonder if that has any affect.
If you disable Wifi are you able to click "No Thanks"?

Still gotta DL the WHOLE app (eg. a 1GB game update) instead of just the new/replaced files that Google announced will be launched with the JB release.
Smart Update: http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/17/3248874/google-play-store-smart-updates-enabled
Anyone know what going on with that?
I don't know the technical details of the technology, but from what I read about it I assume it only works for changes in the APK. Games often contain a lot of graphic data, which probably renders this technique kinda useless

I'm pretty sure they are already enabled but they still show as if you are downloading the entire file. So there is no way to know when they are put to use and how big the apk diff files are.
Busybox free uses it..and facebook 1.9.9 update too...
With the last updates it was finished within seconds..the download....
Interesting. So how does Google select which apps start using it? Or is it some kinda automated update adding apps to its list for Smart Update support?
Noo the devs of the apps must build it in aka support it

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. Google automatically enables smart app updates for all (I presume) apps. This was said at the I/O conference that developers didn't need to do anything and personally I haven't seen any new API calls nor manifest lines that I need to add.

FWIW, I updated Dead Trigger the other day and it only downloaded around 500k of updated data... so, yea, it does work for games as well.
Again, it depends on the APK and the changes involved.
Something I noticed the other day: the progress bar on the Play Store was slow, and would cut off somewhere in the middle just before updating. If you want to see the real update progress, look in the notification shade.

I have encountered several updates that use this. I remember Google saying that it is something that will happen automatically and not something that will require any changes on the part of the developers

I know. This question was asked a couple of weeks ago. I see that it working more often these day, so I guess a MOD can lock this up to prevent more replies. Th for the earlier info guy! :good:
My biggest hold back on installing CM10 or AOKP was the lack of Cell Broadcasts built in. But low an behold I was able to restore it from a Titanium Backup. I figured I'd go ahead and share it here for all. And maybe for myself if I ever lose it!
This for sure installed on AOKP. At least it installed, I'll have to wait until Wednesday when they do the test to confirm it works.
To install (this is old, the link at bottom has a flashable zip.):
1. Copy the "CellBroadcastReceiver.apk" into "/system/app"
2. Change the permissions to "rw- r-- r--"
3. Restart
It wont be a normal app, but it should appear under Settings --> More... --> Cell broadcasts

It may not be for everyone. But for me, in Arkansas, I find it useful for Tornado warnings. The AMBER alerts are good too. Apps use data and GPS, thus killing your battery. This is a more stable system than some app. Most of the time my phone's WiFi is connected to some shoddy open Linksys router and in and out of proper data service anyway.
Cell Broadcast is like receiving a free text. Good for those on limited data plans, or those that need to be safe!

I think this was standard on the STOCK build, I can not remember since I rooted and flashed CM10 nearly the same day I got the phone. The point of this as the OP states is that once you flash CM10 you lose this functionality. He provided a way to recover that functionality.
Why does this get stripped out when they build the ROMs? I can't imagine anyone actually thinking it'd be a good idea to remove this, is it an oversight?
Cell broadcasts are true broadcasts, so there are no network overload issues when sending them out.
And they work as soon as there is coverage. If you are roaming somewhere without data, the broadcasts will still work.
Doesn't Google Now have something like this built in?
"Public Alerts" card? ... I do remember when a hurricane was coming to NYC, I never received any alerts. Although I was told by some people, it was in text messages.
Thanks to the OP for the app, obviously some people wanted it.
I find this funny though because my parents and I spent xmas weekend trying to figure out how to turn this crap off on their iphones, never did find a way, fortunately my n4 (stock at the time) did not have this annoyance.
This should be a flashable zip, with an addon.d script to keep it alive between ROM updates. I suppose I'll make a zip for myself.

Reboot your phone and see if it still is happening (I'm assuming you've already done that).
After a bit more research, the original error is relatively common and has a simple solution (see post #4. All you have to do is remove your google account (in settings), then open the play store (it'll give you errors about no account on the phone). Then you can go back and re-add your account. This should clear the original error code.
The second error code probably is due to the fact that you're on 3G. According to other users, sometimes the play store has connectivity issues over 3G (especially is the service is spotty). And apparently it's a known issue on the entire continent of Australia (look at "Downloading, installing and updating apps" and "[#7041453] Australian users: errors 927 and 495"). Others have reported that this error goes away when connected to wifi.
Hope this helps.

Is this the software I been hearing about that you can't revert back to 4.4
I wonder how the battery is? I remember I had great battery on the first LP update, then a minor update came and battery went to hell..
dont notice any difference between COC4 and COC5. I dont know have the changelog but nothing noticeable. Not that I was expecting anything with such a minor update.
This is what I found
I can't update. All i can get is "Software update interrupted , software up to date please try in 24 hours". Anybody capture this update so i can push by ADB ? or any other idea ?( i push date 5 day forward and same message).
This update fixed the call forwarding issue between my note 4 and my Gear s. Before this update, going to the phone app, then settings, then call forwarding resulted in a sim card error and wouldn't let me enable it. Now, I don't get the error.

Can anyone confirm odin roll back if we take this update. Anyone?
This update fixed my issues with newly activated VoLTE service in my area. Before I was experiencing issues where my voice would not transmit for about 10 seconds or more and people could not hear me, however, I could hear them perfectly. This was frustrating in business calls. The update remedied this situation for me. No more VoLTE issues even without a factory reset.

??????
All these scared people who want others to take every update and try it out first for them (newsflash... no 2 people have exactly the same usage patterns). I'm sure you could tell me every single time someone posted about battery life, etc and how every update has ruined someone. Those are the extreme exception take the risk let it update. Do a full cache wipe after the update, always a good idea anyways, and deal with it.
90% or more of phones that broke via update are user driven issues. "I'm rooted, I use home made charger cables, have 128 gig worth of apps installed, have my screen set to stay on full bright all day long, and keep my phone underwater, and that update is killing my battery life"

Can anyone confirm if WiFi notifications for google apps still work on this 25a?
I remember they broke that in 13A and had to wait 2+ months for 13B to fix it.
I have 24c now and they are working so I'd like to know if they still work in 25a before I take it.
Not sure what the wifi notifications bug is.
Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
102.4mb. Has to be something in there besides a few security updates. I hope...
Here is a thread about the notifications bug that was in 13A but I'll summarize it.:
After we got 13A when I was on WiFi I wouldn't get any push notifications from google services (gmail, hangouts, etc.) as well as some other ones as well. As soon as I turned off WiFi or left my house and it went to 4G I got flooded with all the notifications. A number of smart people figured out it had something to do with companies that push notification over IPV6 vs IPV4. Eventually after 2 months 13B was released and all the notifications worked again over WiFi.
So if you can get a push notification about a new gmail or hangout while on WiFi on 25A then I'll assume it works and they didn't break it and all is good with 25A.
Apparently I can't post a link to the site because it says I'm too new (just 2 posts). If you google: "vs98613B wifi notification" without the quotes the thread is the 2nd one that comes up. It is on the verizon forum called: "LG G4 update breaks notifications!"
I've noticed that there is no longer a notification on the pulldown telling you what wifi network you're connected to.

Can someone please let me know if it fixes the display not turning on. I had to go back to 13b cause of that problem. I'd hate to update and not be able to downgrade.
I'm doing the update as I type this.
When WiFi is off it prompts to turn it on with an "improve location" notification.
It also hides multiple notifications with a single status bar icon. I believe cm had a setting for this, not sure what it's called, I dislike it a lot.
It definitely wakes quicker.
Is it just me or is the slide down notification drawer smoother or something? It seems....different.
Scrolling within apps seems smoother.
Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
I took the update after a buddy tried it and still got WiFi notifications from hangouts. I'll confirm the push notification while on WiFi are still working, as well as agree that it wakes faster and scrolling within apps that used to be choppy after the 6.0 update are back to being smooth. Not sure about the other issues mentioned (LED and screen not working) as I didn't have those problems so they both seem fine now.
