Screen dead from software bug? - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

Hi
I got the xt-1710-09 and recently installed the android 9 upgrade which never was officially released for this version.
everything works fine except every few weeks something crashes which results in the screen always staying off. I first considered it a hardware fault since the contacts to the screen aren't that good any more which results in gfx glitches when applying slight pressure to the screen.
Now I realized when booting into TWRP via ADB the screen goes on again and the phone works for a few weeks.
does anybody have an idea what could be the cause?
I suspect the code of the fingerprint sensor. since this code already crashed earlier which resulted in the fingerprint gestures not working any more until reboot.
when the screen is dead everything works fine except well the screen and touch control. which mean the phone is almost unusable except via "ok google" speech control.
using the fingerprint the phone vibrates approval. (not the wrong fingerprint vibration)
but regardless of pressing power button or fingerprint sensor, the screen just stays black.
i believe I rebooted the phone several times via letting run the battery down or pressing the power button for a long time. this did not help. only booting into TWRP always (temporarly) solves the issue.
the phone is unlocked, rooted and twrp installed.
thanx

[Q] Display and touch screen major issues following lollipop update.

Problems with my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 SM-T705:
1st: October 2014
2 weeks after buying, my tablet's battery drained overnight from 45% to zero. Next morning, I turned my tab on after charging to find out that the Tab starts but without any Samsung GAlaxy Tab S logo or Samsung Logo and the Screen has turned green, rendering it difficult to read in auto brightness mode or low brightness mode.
I restarted the device 2-3times and the device started working normally. This was my 1st device restart. I never used to power off the device before.
In 1st 6months, this greenish display problem n logo problem occured 2-3times, and i ignored it, because, it used to get resolved by itself with restart and I had no service centre in and around 50km to my work place.
2nd: January 2014
My device all of a sudden stopped working.. actually hanged.. I managed to turn it off but failed to restart it.
Later I realised that the device has restarted, but the screen was not responding when the screen blinked for a moment with the opening of book cover.. and the back cover of device was warm..
Googling taught me the way to access recovery screen n I opened recovery mode with "power+vol down+home key" and pressing vol down in recovery screen to restart tab.. again the tab started working fine..
3rd: Lollipop update: May 2015
I did Lollipop update. The device was smooth to operate at first. But gradually, i noticed that unlocking the tab failed to light up the display everytime, just the soft keys lighted up. But one day, the device freezed with no response from touch screen. I was unable to switch off the device also.. I had to drain the battery by playing music using S voice to turn the device off. "power+vol down+home key" too was not working.
On googling, I learned to reset device with "power+vol up+vol down" keys pressed together. finally the device restarted, but the device used to hang occassionally.
Googling let me know that i need to factory reset device upon firmware update for normal functioning, which i didn't do after update. so, I backed up my device, uninstalled many apps to make the device run a bit smooth and did a factory reset.. Resetting didn't improve the situation much, but now, the device display failed to light up on a regular basis on unlocking most of the time..
Now the situation is that, the device turns on, finger print scanner works, all apps n everything working, but display remains black, and touch screen is not responding.. using sidesync, everything on Tab can be accessed via laptop.
Tricks tried:
1) Factory reset
2) power+ vol up+vol down
3) power+ vol up+home key
4) power+ vol down + home key
5) Power off using sidesync and then restart
Results: All failure. Everything works but the display never lights up normally..
Plzz help....:crying::crying:
Bump. I'm starting to have similar problems with my SM-T800 running 5.0.2. I open the cover and the device fails to turn on. I press the power button and the screen stays black but the notification bar turns on. I can shake the crap out of the device and the screen stays black but I can see the notification bar flicker. Driving me batty.
If i had any problems like you guys, I would just return it to the place i bought it, for a refund or replacement or even a repair, post it to the service centre if it`s too far to travel too.
You problems sound like battery and or loose connector inside your tablet, it happens frequently on Samsung tablet for the connectors to come loose, if the tablet is dropped or twisted, no outside damage might be seen.

LG G4 H818N Screen unresponsive after boot - all stock

Hi all,
As I woke up this morning and booted my beloved G4 the screen went fully unresponsive. It runs boot normally apparently, but no touch is being registered after boot finishes at my normal unlock screen. No vibration even. No pattern swipe, no camera app, no emergency call. Battery went in and out several times, but it boots nicely again and I`m back where I was. No loop, it boots only once. Double-tap on screen functions perfectly tho, no prob there.
I tried a hard reset w back buttons but it captures a nice screenshot for me. (Funny story: when I pressed just the up and down volumes it boots normally as well.)
USB to PC doesn`t recognize cause unresponsive and locked. Fully stock, no mods, root or else...
I bought it last October on Amazon unlocked international version so it must`ve spend some time on a shelf probably.
Any ideas?

Lock screen unresponsive while charging?

My proximity sensor works fine, I've tested it in the sensor test app as well as no issue during calls, the only issue I'm facing is sometimes while charging if I leave my screen off for longer times, it freezes and doesn't turn back on and I've to hard reset the phone using power and volume down, I did a clean flash of 8.1 when it came out, so what can be the problem?

Probably one of the apps you installed. Run the phone in Safe Mode for a while to confirm it's working ok, then start the process of elimination. If it is not working correctly in Safe Mode, factory reset.

Touchscreen becomes unresponsive after proximity sensor turns off screen during call

TD;DR - my touchscreen stops working whenever I get a phone call.
I'm experiencing a problem with the touchscreen. When I answer a call and the proximity sensor is activated, the touchscreen stops responding. It continues to be unresponsive even after I move the phone away from my head or end the call. I've mapped the power button "end call" or I can't hang-up )
Sometimes I can press the power button twice (sleep/wake) to restore functionality but on some rare occasions I cannot get the touchscreen to work again without rebooting.
This did not happen when the device was new (running Nougat). When I first encountered it I though it might be due to custom roms so I did a full reset to factory RUU (Oreo I think). This too had the issue. I'm currently running Fagyi's LOS 16.
When the touchscreen is working it works flawlessly. When it stops it mostly doesn't work at all - but double-tap to wake will still wake the device - it just doesn't respond to any touch input.
There's a really easy way I found to force the problem. Here are the steps:
1. With my phone sitting on my desk I call my phone.
2. When the phone rings confirm the touchscreen works.
3. Place my hand over the top area of the phone to activate the proximity sensor.
4. Move my hand away so the screen comes back on.
5. The touchscreen is now dead until I either press power-button twice or, in extreme cases, reboot.
I've watched logcat as this is happening and I could not find anything interesting that seemed related.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Touchscreen Occasionally not responding

Greeting,
I have a weird issue where occasionally after I unlock my phone, my screen doesn't respond to touches.
The phone works and responds to physical button presses but not touch.
Not sure exactly when it started happening but I've noticed this since last week.
Any idea what might be causing this?
I'm running Android Pie 52.0.A.3.202.

Got the same issue on 52.0.A.8.50. Usually opening the app drawer then hitting back solves it - otherwise none of the virtual buttons work.
Searching the web it seems touch screen issues are pretty common on this phone. I'm a bit surprised there isn't more being said here about it. Some experience delayed response, dead areas and no response at all. I have all those issues. Yes I am on the latest firmware. I bought the phone used with a cracked screen. I checked it out and everything seemed fine. I didn't use the phone, just set it aside til replacement screen came. I should have used the phone to thoroughly check it out but didn't want to go through the set up process as I was thinking of B/L unlock and root. New screen came, put it on and seemed to be working fine then screen would be unresponsive. I did factory reset, software update, software repair, went into settings and made sure sure everything was good there, nothing helped. The center of the screen (it's low and a bit off center) is pretty much dead. To open launcher I have to touch and hold near the top of the display. Touch and hold apps is tricky. Usually the app just opens. When I do get it to hold, I can't drag it anywhere. Also, icons in the drop down menu cannot be rearranged or edited. I can swipe up/down, side to no problem. Whenever touch goes dead completely, the home, back and minimize buttons go grey. Tapping the power button gets them back functioning again. . Function test fail. Free draw lets me make a few seconds of scribbles then freezes. The x and rectangle block draw does the same. Tapping power button does nothing to unfreeze either. The color test pass even the block one where you toggle on/off sections of the screen in blocks. It's really weird. First impression would lead me to the screen but it really acts like a software issue. From what I've read so far this phone uses two different display drivers. I not seen anything on how to change that and it would more than likely mean B/L unlock and root, which I'm not against doing. I would just like to know definitively if it's hardware or software. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Maybe the Screen Connector wasn't 100% clean.
Or not only the screen is damaged.
I heard that the touch problems are mostly fixed with PIE. The closed source clearpad touch driver is..... Hoping Q gives us an further updated driver.
You still get sometimes ghost touches on higher workload or if the keyboard app is slow, but if you have dead spots the hardware sounds damaged.
