hey all,
I was thinking about ordering a fold 3, I think I already know the answer, but anyone that actually has one in their hand - could they verify the Bluetooth codecs available, specifically APTX HD or APTX Adaptive?
Android Central says it does but not sure I believe that article
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 vs. Galaxy Z Fold 2: Should you upgrade?
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is here, and it comes with a host of exciting upgrades from the Z Fold 2. So if you're currently using the Z Fold 2 or are interested in a foldable, here's what you ...
www.androidcentral.com
Seems unlikely. Samsung favors their SSC and they have LDAC as well.
Doubt they will do the licensing or expense needed.
LDAc is superior to APTX HD. SCC maybe slightly less, equal or superior to LDAC.
Regardless all bt codecs can't support the needed bandwidth for the high resolution output that a wired or toshlink digital output can.
The Samsung bt Buds line couple seamlessly that other 3rd party solutions can't match.
There's also the proprietary 360° surround feature on new Samsungs that only the Buds Pro (maybe +?) can use.
The SSC bt devices are still your best bt shot with Samsung... that's my thoughts.
I've invested too much into beoplay headphones which use aptx adaptive so was hoping for hd at least.
Thanks anyone that does have the device in hand and confirms.
Hello,
I have the Fiio's UTWS3 and after checking in the dev options it says that they're connected in aptx mode and the "HD audio" option is active. So I believe that it's using aptxHD

If it were HD the frequency would be 96kHz. Samsung to my knowledge have never supported aptX HD

Look at the codec, it's AptX.
Check codec options.

The UTWS3 do not support 96khz but 44-48khz yes. I don't have anything higher end to test.

You're screen shot doesn't show the codec drop down menu. If AptXHD is available, it will be listed.
There's no aptxHD listed but the HD audio option seems to complete that

That's probably for wired.
It either has the codec or not. Not listed, not there... a predictable outcome.
Never trust a review unless verified for the exact variant you're buying. This audio spec disinformation bs has been going for at least 7 years... seems deliberate.
Not all bad as the SSC codec is a good bt codec.
Get the Buds+ or higher. For music use Poweramp and dial them in with it's graphic equalizer. Poweramp will also show the playback pathway in detail.
Nah I got KZ AST and Fiio UTWS3 buds, they're way more worth the money in terms of quality

No SSC or LDAC support. They don't have near the bt bandwidth...
Worse your losing features native to only Samsung bt devices.
Honestly, I'm not losing much : I can still have really great audio, an app that allows me to customise everything on the buds (EQ, buttons, tts notifications, Hey Google, etc...) and they're modular : I can change the drivers any day of the week.
The S Buds are nice too (got some Galaxy Buds for when I go to sleep and they're fine) but with my fiio's I got 6,5h of use on a single charge

You lose the seamless connectivity and the 360° dolby support.
The Buds+ is an upgrade from the Buds, I have both. The difference between SBC, AAC, AptX vs SSC is noticeable. I've tested it repeatedly.
360 audio, must be the same as using the 'Stereo' option in Poweramp. Never liked stuff tampering with audio too much. And as for the seamless connectivity, my bt earphone auto connect to my phone which is way enough for me. Again you must have some advantages that I don't have but I personally don't miss the aptxHD as I never was able to tell the difference between the two

It's a new dolby variant mostly for a surround gaming experience. My 10+ doesn't support it.
Straight throughput with no Dolby is usually best for music as Dolby introduces distortion.
I got excited there for a minute but looks to only support aptx.
Thanks for confirming

I'm an audiophile and I also struggle to tell the difference between aptX and aptX HD
Snapdragon version of Samsung (lucky worldwide for all fold models), with support for aptX has quite decent BT audio, one of the loudest and crispier among android devices. In dev options i always check disable absolute volume to have my headphones not tamed by my phone limits.
I use true wireless quite cheap Liberty air 2, but have decent over the ears Bowers &Willkins P7 wireless and they sound nice, no complain.
Is there anything more i can do to improve more my headphones sound quality ?

Hi. I am looking for some high Quality headphones for the desire with functions.
Preferably the pod type earphones which can do fast forward, rewind, pause, play, and most importantly change / adjust the volume on the same control although I am not sure that is possible or not. It's very annoying to have to get my phone out of my pocket just to adjust the volume, thus the search for an all-in-one headphone solution. Thanks
Sennheiser make an adaptor that does all this and plug in any headphones u want to.
AKG K370 and 390 have microphone and one button for answering, play/pause and skip when you double tap but no volume.
I advise you to buy an official HTC remote to plug between your phone and any jack 3 pin headset.
where can you get the HTC remote? i have nuforce ie7s with one button.. be nice to forward/back though

Well if you are serious about listening to high quality music.
Either way, the clipper and bt3030 cost about 40 euro's. Which frankly isnt that expensive considering a high quality headphone set costs about 40-60 euro
anyone use a bluetooth set that would be suitable for gym?
Does the Sennheiser MM 450 have a volume button ?

It's not clear to me what the jabra clipper actually does.
I understand that both the headphones and the jabra clipper are bluetooth compatible along with the HTC Desire. But are you sure that it all works together ????

Remember that using head's control is not easy in some case like in crowded common transport, moreover you must be familiar with the control as you can't see them.
About Sennheiser, the founder Fritz Sennheiser died on Monday at 98 yo.
I wanted to buy that one, then I changed my mind for ear-plugs for mobility convenience, I will get my AKG K370 from amazon this morning.
One last thing, nokia has a good bluetooth headset (BH-905), but it has an awfull design, giving you a hamster face like when you get back from dentist.

Ok i am learning a lot from you all, thank you for posting. This is an exciting topic with many possibility's.
As I understand it, the BlueTooth audio transmitter is built into the HTC Desire, so you don't need to buy an external BT Transmitter like a B-Speech TX2.
Is that correct ?
But if you had a PC and a pair of BT Headphones, then a BT Transmitter would be quite handy, as you could listen to whatever was aired and playing on the PC through WinAmp/whatever app.

Any PC with Bluetooth 2 supports AD2P as long as you have a compatible software.
It acts like a virtual sound card, you don't need anything else than Bluetooth 2.0 with AD2P.
There are no quality problem as the bandwidth of AD2P is 764 kb/sec, but AD2P brings audio delays.
For more info on AD2P read this: http://www.electronicsweekly.com/Articles/2008/09/15/44505/bluetooth-gets-audio-quality-overhaul.htm
I forgot to ask, do any high quality earbuds exist with a cable that have an in-built volume control, pause, rewind and fast forward.
Or to reword it, could you possibly make a recommendation ?
I have to highly recomend the etymotic HF2s.
I had the er6i earbuds prior to these.
Noise isolation is one of the best available and audio reproduction is accurate. None of this uber bass or trebble. They are designed to make music sound (on the most part) as it was intended to.
http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/hf2.aspx
Minimal controls but they have a microphone.
The HF2s receive excellent reviews (thanks for the link and info) but pls correct me if i'm wrong, i can't find reference to an external volume control built within the headphones.
Are the Klipsch X10i's the best that money can buy ? Does anyone actually use these with the HTC Desire and does all the functionality work as expected ? i.e. volume up/down, pause, fast forward, microphone, call answer button.

I read (somewhere, yes on the interwebs), that the integrated controls don't work on the desire. it made me go for the s4. and they are great. even to an EQ would be grand on this device. klipsch happens to have built those headphones way too good. i'm hearing things in songs, that I never knew they were there. quite brilliant, if you ask me, but sometimes the headphones find pieces in the higher spectrum of the music, that it can hurt a bit, if you're having it way too load (e.g. a bassy song you pumped to followed up with some high-key piano songs).
I wanted the Desire to have AVRCP Profile 1.3 which allows the disaply of song text on a BT device, but it hasnt got it. Therefore have to put up with basic A2DP controls.
I have the Sony Ericsson MW600 coupled with the Denon Ah-C551 and it sounds great.
OK the setup is £80 but it means i have excellent highs and lows and the cable is small enough to house the BT module in my shirt pocket.
Great combo if anyone has the budget.
I have a semi-decent pair of Rocketfish BT headphones that I just paired with my SGN and I gotta tell you, damn, this tablet pounds out some powerful tunes. I also own a SGS2 phone and that is nowhere close as far as the sheer energy of the music it puts out.
If you get a chance to pick up some Rocketfish BT headphones (like $50) or anything else comparable, do, you won't be disappointed pairing them with the Note 10.1.

Because aptX is lossless, the sound quality has to be heard to be believed. The HTC audio bridge is aptX and the coupler allows you to use it with any 3.5mm wired headset. If you listen to it with a FLAC file or another non-compressed source you'll be ruined for life.

Very few have aptX (yet). Assuming your content's decent it's worth the additional bucks to find BT headsets that support aptX. If you listen to highly compressed content it becomes less important as the content itself becomes the weakest link.

There should be no sound quality difference between I9100/I777/N7000 and N80xx when using a BT headset, since the crappy Yamaha DAC isn't used.
I have a pair of Jaybird JF3s, they are great when combined with Comply Tx-200 tips. (Older JF3s used Tx-400 tips, newer ones need the smaller Tx-200.)

Yes I meant the I9100. The OP said there was a difference in sound quality between I9100 and N8013 which doesn't make sense as the crappy Yamaha DAC in the devices listed above isn't used for Bluetooth streaming. The only possibility is some sort of software difference in the streaming configuration.
For wired headsets, the DAC in the N80xx should provide significant improvements over the Yamaha in GS2-family devices. For Bluetooth streaming it has no role.

I was trying to pair my Jawbone Icon BT and the SGN won't even pick up the pairing signal from the Jawbone.
Is there any issues with pairing BT headsets with SGN?
Got it to work. Just download the latest jawbone firmware, turned BT on GN on and off and then it scanned properly and paired my Jawbone Icon
Now I just hope it works well. Will test it later.:fingers-crossed:

I decided to test 2 GNex loudness modifications: AlsaMixer from the Play store, and NexusLouder from XDA.
The test device was a GSM GNex with CNA 3.7.0 ROM and Trinity S63-1689 kernel. I used AudioManager Pro to set a sound profile that was consistent across all tests. I used Play Music app with MusicFX EQ enabled but turned off, and played the same short track made in my home studio in every case. I used the dB meter from Smart Tools to measure loudness. The GNex was carefully positioned in exactly the same place and direction and held the same way, to prevent any variation due to room or hand acoustics. The room background sound ambiance was kept at 50dB +/- 2dB.
I first ran the test with no modifications, and got readings between 78dB and 90 dB when the track was played.
I then flashed NexusLouderV5Beta2.zip and rebooted. Upon running the test again, I got exactly the same result, peaking at 90dB at the same point in the track. I then flashed NexusLouderV5Beta2-Revert.zip to restore my system to its original state.
Lastly, I installed AlsaMixer, being careful to grant root privileges and install the mods completely, and rebooted. The test result was just the same as the first two, peaking at 90dB in the same spot.
In conclusion I got exactly zero loudness change from either mod under carefully controlled and measured conditions.

Actually the Beats software shipped with the HTC devices sucks and the Xloud , walkman ...other addons they'll just make more bass out of the device using the DSP manager , i think the best approach for a better quality sound would be get an S3 + Voodoo that would be launching soon [Thanks to wolfson corp] or the older Samsung galaxy S again the credit goes to wolfson and sammy , these phones would get the job done , i'm waiting to get my old galaxy's SAMOLED repaired and soon it'll be up and running...
Use trickster app + any kernel with Highperf Audio & volume boost = win :victory: .
I always knew these mods were useless
I was kind of surprised. I just wanted to measure how much they increased loudness, not expecting it to be zero. The mods have other features that I didn't test, so I would hesitate to describe them as useless.

Yeh, I hear Voodoo is really something but haven't experienced it personally. What I like in audio output is accuracy, with a frequency response as close to flat as possible. That's why I use Sennheiser HD 280 Pro cans, which are almost as good as studio monitors for mixing.
As I understand it, the highperf kernel options turn off compression that was added to the gnex audio output to give it more apparent loudness. And that in turn increases quality by returning the dynamic range to its original state.
The only found modification i use is dsp manager to increase to output volume of my music on speakers and headphones, but I'm glad you ran this test oh and voodoo is amazing, i had it on my Epic 4g, (galaxy S variant) and it added so much bass. I can't imagine what it would sound like with the s3

yes i had voodoo on my captivate n my blew my mind away every single time. Anyhoo, wifey's using it now, n she has no bloody clue wat voodoo or wolfson even means (probably some kinda black magic mumbo jumbo lol). I like my nexus, audio wise. Its pretty good. Not excellent, but pretty good.
But interesting story- I was running outta space on my gnex, wat with all the 2gb games fashion nowadays, plus I have 4gb of music. So I got a 5th gen ipod nano(used for 60$), cuz I hated the tiny 6th gen, n i dont have 150 to blow for the new 1. Copied all my music to it, n been using it. Wat struck me, is I actually miss my gnex. I have tuned the sound of my gnex to the perfect level in poweramp, and all my songs(rap, dance, trance, beats, etc etc) sounded gr8 on it. I just cant reach that level of customization on the ipod. Damn I really wish it had more memory...

Of the three "system-wide" equalizers ( MusicFX, DSP-Manager, and Equalizer from the Playstore) I like DSP-Manager, too, only because you can set EQ separately for speaker and headphones. The "Small Speakers" preset helps a little if you translate the whole pattern up about 4dB for more overall loudness. The flashable one from BlackElvis' thread works great.

I had my SGS paired with Sennheiser CX300 MKII (The best earphones set ) as they are having low impedance and the DAC Hubs used in the phone can reproduce better audio on low impedance sets , that's why my SGS didn't sound much better on my BOSE Companion Series II over those senns , i'd say the voodoo turns your set into an Audiophile class device...:victory: ,
Still miss my old SGS , Supercurio managed to get that Wolfson WM8994 chip sound awesome making it work in custom environment like Full control of Dynamic Range , Bass levels , Headphone amp making it even better than SII's Yamaha Chipset & the already famous iPods and iPhones .
Nexus's TI Audio codec cannot be customized but it has a very good audio potential as said by supercurio himself .
Even though I really like My Huawei Honor 2 (U9508), I am considering upgrading to a high-end phone, probably one of the following:
Find 7
Find 7a
One Plus
Sony Xperia Z2 phone
Of course if I am going to spend this much money, I do not want to loose any features the Huawei has.
One of those is the stereo speakers. I believe that the Oppo Find 7 has basically the same arrangement.
Some of the advertising says that it does not, but I believe these are from sites pushing the One Plus.
Can someone please authoritatively answer the following: (Pictures would be nice, too)
Does the Find 7 have internal stereo speakers?
Does the Find 7a?
I am not expecting the internal speakers in a phone to be like the speakers in a nightclub, but -in context- do they have some power?
(The Huawei is actually pretty good - noticeably louder than "regular phones", and there is actually some noticeable stereo effect.) Could the same be said of the Find 7/7a?
How about with a 3rd party firmware (such as a Cyanogen build) that does not have Maxxx audio (or whatever it is), will I still have true (albeit perhaps not enhanced) stereo from the internal speakers?
I have an antique mini/micro car that has no radio, and sometimes my phone is the only sound system when my daughter says "I Want Music !!".
Other information (about the sound quality of the phone, not the daughter's attitude) is welcome.

The speakers perform quite admirably. I find the speakers are very similar to the performance of the HTC One. In terms of Maxx Audio, It seems to matter most when using headphones. That being said, they should perform the same way with the Cyanogenmod built in DSP. I'll know for sure later. In terms of stereo performance, there may or may not be 2 speakers. I am unwilling to take a screwdriver to confirm. However, at the very least there are 2 speaker ports in which audio comes out. I've attached the pic. I used a stereo test app and covered a single port but could hear no discernible difference. At any rate, if there are 2 speakers you wouldn't discern stereo because the speakers are so close together.

The speakers on the phone are pretty good. I optimized the sound with ViPER4Android on Paranoid Android. There's a huge difference you can notice when using ViPER. The only thing that isn't that good, is the positioning of the speakers. Most of the time your hands will probably cover them. HTC One for example does this better.
But all in all, watching videos is quite enjoyable with the phones speakers.

I had been a user of Huawei Honor 2 for 2 years. When I switched to Find 7a I had to admit that Oppo sounds better (Maybe it's just the MaxxAudio thing..). In my opinion you will be very pleased if you decide to upgrade.
The only thing I am missing from Honor2 is the real-time facewarping feature in the camera, but it's not a big issue...
Thanks to all that replied.
There was also a thorough review on engadget.com that discussed the speakers quite a bit.
http://www.engadget.com/2014/07/24/oppo-find-7-review/
I also discovered that the Huawei P7 does have NFC, so the only one of my "requirements" that the P7 does not meet is the stereo speakers.
So as of right now, if I can find a P7 at a fair price (It should be about 1/2 what a Find 7 costs), I'll probably just settle for that.
If I'm stuck in the Find 7 price range, and I can get the US version with the carbon ("Space black", or whatever they call it) back, I'll probably go for that.
I'm not really considering a One Plus right now due to the "plastic-ness", and the irritating "invite" system, but it is not totally out of the question either.

I have both Find 7a and OnePlus and prefer OnePlus. It's not plasticky, it feels premium. You can't go wrong with either one.
Sent from my One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I haven’t been able to find anywhere that confirms which bluetooth HD audio codecs the Pixel 6 Pro will have. The codecs seem to be mysteriously left out of the specs. Look at https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7158570?hl=en and compare the Pixel 6 Pro specs with the 5a (5G) specs in the “Wireless & Location” section.
Does the Pixel 6 Pro have adpX and LDAC codecs? If so, please show me a link to confirmed info. I can’t find it.
I am also curious about that... LDAC is extremely important. All modern Qualcom Android phones have it.
I expect Google to deliver here...

I just chatted with the Google Store support and got an answer:
Both phones will support aptx, aptx hd and LDAC.
I’d certainly hope it’s true that the Pixel 6 devices will support Aptx, Aptx HD and LDAC. Thanks for chatting and finding that out. I’m curious why Google isn’t putting that info seemingly anywhere in their marketing materials. It makes me slightly nervous to just take the word of a support chat rep.
I know there’s an article on XDA pre-release where some leakers said the phone would have the codecs. That makes me feel a little better than the support rep, ha.
My Pixel 3 XL supports aptx and LDAC.
I think these codecs are just assumed to be included now.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Well, your Pixel 3 XL runs Android on a Qualcomm chip. That's designed to run those codecs/ the licenses are paid.
Take a look at IPhones for example. They have no codecs whatsoever. High quality bluetooth connections... that's impossible with Apple devices. They crap out way before.
Knowing Google and how easily they f*ck up important stuff, it's important to ask those questions.
I know for a fact that LDAC has been part of the Android Open Source Project for many years now and that OEMs can add it to their devices freely, but they still have to add it. It's not going to appear magically out of thin air.
Good point.
Just got my pixel 6 pro today.
Myself I'm really disappointed it doesn't support Dolby Atmos or and kind of spatial audio. I really enjoy this out of the OP8 I have now. Ordered the 6 and will give it a shot but might end up returning it.

Still technically on day one of use but so far it seems as good if not better than my old iphone 12 pro max. For now I am using the same wireless charger I was using for my z fold 3 until I am able to get a google wireless charger. You should start seeing more detailed testing on youtube in another day or so when the embargo is over.

How is it possible that you already got the P6? It's not the Google Store that sent you this, is it? Where did you order your phone?

Noice, would be nice to know what you think of the camera and especially the video quality. Those embargo jugglers don't want people to find out if the phone is truly worth it, before it's sold officially

So far it looks good. I believe it's a 50MP camera on the rear and uses AI machine learning to enhance the images. Video can do 4k and 60fps and 1080p 30fps is default.

So does that mean your headset doesn't support it or the phone doesn't support it?
Never mind, I guess the text would mean that another phone this phone is connected to doesn't support the codec. If it's in the list it's supported...which is awesome!

How do you rate P6P screen brightness compared to IPhone 12 Pro max?

Both seem really close in terms of max brightness. Though I can't see a need to run them at max brightness even in direct sunlight. Adaptive brightness seems to work fine for now.
So if aptx is available then there is some Qualcomm inside. I have the sony headphones with LDAC and that is what I use all the time with my pixel 2. I do a lot of flac and full wav file listening and while it is somewhat lost in the noisy urban world it is nice to have.
